Review Ali Baba's Tunisian Cuisine - Rotorua

We went to Rotorua for a holiday and stopped off at this spot for dinner. The owners were lovely and dinner was quick to arrive. I had the fresh salad with falafel and is was delicious and quite filling. We also had the garlic cheese bread which didn't real have much flavour. The food was tasty, the service was excellent and I can't wait to go there again.

Best meat I have ever had in Rotorua! Crispy outside and tender inside. I tried the rice meal with coconut sauce(Amazigh), and a Kascrute (mixed meat and salads in a wrap), both of them super fresh and delicious. It’s a cafe rather than a restaurant. It’s Warm.

Food quality is high, the tastes are unique with the flavours offered being very different to other kebab on rice places. The pizza will blow you away. The staff is good to talk to. Prices are reasonable. Dine-ins and takeaways both have worked out pretty well for me with this joint.

Certified Halal, Affordable, Homely and Delicious. A must visit for Muslim tourists in the area. The owner and staff were lively and very accommodating. We arrived at 7:30pm and they had sold out of most food. If that isn't a testamant to a good kebab shop, I dotn know what is. We had their Arabian Pizza, Faafel Salad and a pasta dish. The pizza was beautiful, if you like spice their house made harissa was amazing on the pizza. The falafel salad was the underdog though, the Tamarind seasoned capers were an amazing addition with roast Capsicum. The falafel were fresh and simply perfect the plating was also very well thought out The owner was very generous, upon my offering a tip, i wa stold to save up and pay for my parents pilgrimage

I was curious and arrived with high expectation. We ordered takeaway kebab, awaiting to uncover this supposedly gem. However, the impression was another takeaway place. Nothing extraordinary, just ordinary.

Taste: 2
Aesthetics: 3
Service: 4
Ambience: 3

Original Berber food in Rotorua? Hard to find? Well No! Ali Baba’s doing a good job of serving exquisite Berber cuisine.

I tried Kascrute, which is lamb, chicken, falafel cooked with tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, spinach and berber spices! It was absolutely delicious (just 16 bucks!)

Also, Amazigh (tomato and coconut cream) was amazing! Apparently, the Tunisians like to mix Amazigh with their rice. That’s Berber rice for you!
Amazigh = Amazing!

The place’s a great option for curious foodies. For people not so keen on experimenting, there are options like Berber Pizza that would not be a disappointment!

Food- 5*
Service- 5* (The lad with the big smile was warm)
Ambience- 3* (Well it’s a takeaway place so no judgements :-)
Je ne sais quois factor - Full marks!

Just go.

Food here is just amazing. May look like a kebab shop from the outside but everything on the menu is so unique and genuinely authentic in flavours. The Berber chicken - was the best but the Tunisia rice was good as well. Kascrute another must try. We are surely coming again and again to try the rest of the items on the menu. We were a big group so was hard to find a big table and orders took a bit of time as it was Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy. But the food was worth the wait and staff was lovely.

Not your usual kebab shop

This cafe does serve the usual kebabs - but there also are some interesting Tunisian rice and pasta dishes on the menu. We tried a chicken and rice dish with an Amazigh (tomato and coconut cream) sauce and a falafel salad. The food was really good - delicious and full of flavour and spice. It was very well priced and the service from the young man on the counter was exceptional.

My family and I ended up here looking for a quick lunch to satisfy a Hangry 13 year old boy, and really didn't expect the quality food we found! Fantastic flavours, generous portions and not just your usual kebab fare. I had the mixed kebab with trimmings, and the hot chilli sauce and it was very moreish. The boys standard kebabs disappeared very quickly, and my wife had the kascrute, which was Amazing!

Don't expect ambiance, but, the staff were quick, friendly and we left very satisfied!

Fantastic food, great prices. Had a dish with lamb and chicken meat cooked with coconut cream and tomato served over saffron rices with a fresh salad. Spicy and delicious. Great to find something with great flavour in Rotorua. Definitely recommended and I'll be back again!

Food: 9/10
Service: 8/10

If you come here, you have to order one of their pizzas! They are one of the best I have ever tried at a restaurant! They are $16 and you can share the pizza as an entree if you like, so you can try other dishes too.

We also ordered a chicken rice dish with coconut cream in it (can't remember the name of the dish) and it was really yum. It tasted like curry on rice which was perfect for a winter night.

It only cost $30 for two people which is perfect for anyone looking for cheap eats and actually taste AMAZING! Now I know why this restaurant has won a few tripadvisor awards!

one of the best food i had in Rotorua. It was one of the places which was not too expensive. Meal was quite filling, tasty, had lots of flavours, cooked properly in front of you. a small take away but very clean. Felt it was better than any other place on Eat Street

This place is mainly a takeaway joint with ambiance that doesn't make you look twice. Maybe that's why it's so easy to pass it by. We walked into this place for a quick lunch and we're Happily surprised. My husband ordered the chicken kebab in a pita wrap and I had the falafels in the pita wrap. Both were excellent. Perfectly flavoured, juicy and beautifully spiced. The best part was that it barely cost us 8.5 dollars per dish and was extremely filling. Super value for money and high in taste and the owner was super friendly as well. Plus they have loads of options for vegetarians. Definitely one of the best falafels I have had in my life, would recommend to everyone.

What an unexpected pleasant surprise! The food is flavorsome and not to mention great value for the money! We had a mixed kebab and a kascrute. The kascrute was just out of this world! Definitely coming back!

Came in tired for a lunch and was treated to great food and service. We were a big group so they opened up the dinner area. Tried almost all types of dishes and loved them all. Personal favourites were the pizza! Check out the place of you in roto vegas
Not your ordinary kebabs on rice. Go for the rice dishes, very unique meals and nothing like your traditional kebab shop. Delicious. Defs recommend

Excellent value for money and good ambiance higly recommended, average meal is about $13 but more then enough, we had to takeaway the rest. This would be the best in town.

Liked the sound of trying Tunisian so we walked through the door. The smell from the pizza oven was wonderful so we decided to eat. We chose the Arabian pizza and it was delicious. Thin crust Italian style with lovely flavours.
