Fantastic breakfast service ... went straight to the Pork Belly Bene with zero regrets! Atmosphere was loverly and relaxing despite being quite busy at the time. Cabinet food looked amazing also. difficult choices to be made here, enter at your own risk ๐Ÿ˜‚

Whenever we go to Rotorua, we always go to this Cafe. We love the varities in food selection. Ambience was cozy, good service. I always order egg benedicts as one of my fave, and pork belly its yummy as well. You dont have to worry about the parking lot, heaps around the cafe.
Jesiane Queiroz
The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is good. They have many options on the menu to eat, different types of sandwiches and deserts. Good place to spend some time and have good food.

Great space. The food was delicious. Huge variety.

Food is very fresh and delicious! We were really hungry and started Googling and found this place! I never heard or had Tan Slice in my life and their tan slice is out of the world! They have various kombucha options and are all equally good! The coffee here is really good too! I love visiting the store and buying some local chocolates!

Like this place. good cabinet selection of interesting options. Both cabinet sweet options were great, not to sweet which we prefer. Great organic coffee!!!! Baby's first fluffy!! Will be back for a dinner sample also I think!

It's a nice cafe with delicious slices and cakes. Coffee could be better but I forgot to ask for double shot. I'm guessing it's not double shot standard. We found their table system confusing but it seems it works ok for them. It's a good place to have a brunch. Recommended!

The food was amazingly good and healthy! We ordered the Chicken, Mushroom & Bacon Fettuccine and the Paprika Lamb Shank. They were both a delight. Cafe atmosphere was lovely and the staff were polite.

The famous Capers Pork Belly Eggs Benedict is rich and delicious, such a showstopper! Couldn't recommend it more if you're looking for something that will blow your socks off. Capers have such a warm busy environment, from families to business meetings to coffee catch ups - it's definitely the place for everybody. I love their little shop area too for local/gourmet goodies it makes brunching really feel like an entire experience. Love it! Thank you Capers.

The dish i ordered was gluten free corn bagel with added sausage.
The dish tasted good but seemed liked eveythjnf was thrown on the plate. It was badly presented.
I understand that they are busy but there should have been a lil better presentation.

The French Toast were very disappointing for the price. 3 pieces of toast with some berry coulis and cream..

Capers it was love from the first sight, you delicious and cosy cafe that is also kid friendly! Yeah! Family friendly! Kid friendly with a kids room and a tv with cartoons! Lock them up and enjoy delicious coffee! Yummy out of this world food, authentic, tasty but oh so homely! Plenty on your plate and so fresh! Also enjoyed kids menu! We will miss you from Auckland with love!!!!!!!! Cosy fireplace and very clean.

Level 2 management perfected. Sign in, taken to table, order food & it arrives in less than 10 minutes. Lots of waitering staff who are well trained & super efficient during lockdown. Food is tasty and filling.

My partner and I came for lunch today... There were things I liked and things that need improvement. Sitting down trying to chat and then suddenly having a techno song leaves you feeling like your in a club instead of going out to lunch. The seafood chowder was watery and clearly had been stewing for some time as all the seafood was mushy. Half of my bagel was fantastic and the other half was so soggy it was inedible. The layout leaves you feeling like your in a food court and the shop on the other side of the cafe adds to this feeling. The staff were lovely though

Come here on my trip during weekend with my friends. Pick up this restaurant from Zomato list. We ordered creamy mushroom and seafood chowder.the food is really nice, more than our expectations.we highly recommend their desserts in cabinet .i donโ€™t know why they only 3.8 score .

Love this place! Open 7 days breakfast lunch and dinner.

Overpriced and cashing in on the Tourism Dollar.

Visited last Friday morning as a group of 6. My food was okay but pretty expensive for what I received. I had Bolognese on toast (essentially mince on toast) with a couple of poached eggs that were arrived soft boiled and one piece of toast which was soggy with the wet mince on top and i failed to see the mentioned parmesan on top. Not that great and for $18.90 would have expected better but tasted ok. Nothing to make me go wow this is delicious.ย

The real rip off here is their coffee. ย Sadly the women working the espresso machine was either under trained or not interested/experienced with making decent coffee. And sadly this attitude showed in the rather average coffee I received. ย The barista had a face like thunder and didn't seem to be able to cope with the morning coffees. At 7am the cafe wasn't full (less than 1/4) at best. I ordered a small flat white. Sadly i didn't even register the cost at the time. $5.60 for a small double shot flat white. Daylight robbery. We are in Rotorua not Paris! And if you're going to charge such a high price for a small coffee (plus 60 cents) for an extra shot of espresso then try and make it a good coffee, not a weak flat white (where's that second shot gone? and not excessively frothy like a cappuccino. Cafes that charge over the normal going rate for a single shot weak flat white are taking the mickey and to charge 60 cents for an extra single shot of espresso is really just taking the p*ss. I discovered this excessive coffee pricing when ordering a small double shot flat white to take away at the end of our visit. I expressed surprise and was told i could get a large flat white which is a double shot for 20 cents less at $5.40. Really? The point of a small double shot flat white is to actually get a taste of coffee and not have a milky weak hot coffee! But to pay less to have more coffee and more milk? Makes zero sense. The coffee is fair trade like a great many cafes these days so thats nothing out of the ordinary. And paying exorbitant prices for fair to middling food and sub par coffee purely because you're based in a tourist town really is pretty distasteful. ย The only plus side was the friendly service from the rest of the staff (minus the barista). Sadly i'm not returning to this cafe, and I can't with good conscience recommend this cafe. Throughly disappointed.

Rated as No.1 Cafe in Rotorua.
Coffee was nice to my liking.
Egg Benedict was slightly overcooked.
Generous portion of thick cut pork belly.
Louise
Came here on my trip down during the weekend, because itโ€™s the highest reviewed place in Rotorua. This place is a cafe & restaurant + a mini shop of local kiwi products.

Besides the food taking a little longer than Iโ€™m used to coming out, everything else was great! The service was very friendly and I loved what I ordered. I got the steak wellington, which was good perfectly - the pastry was super crispy and the steak was very tender! For dessert I got one of the cabinet items - orange and poppy seed cake with yogurt (you can also get it with whipped cream). Which was light and refreshing.

Would highly recommend coming here for brunch if youโ€™re ever in Rotorua for a trip!

Amazing breakfast at the Capers with friendly staff and well cooked food! Friendly staff and plenty of option to choose from. Whole store is nice and tidy in the early morning and could feel the warmth. Very nice!

Friendly environment and amazing food thats cooked to perfection. Loved everything about it , would totally eat here every morning !! The eggs are awesome and aรงai bowl was healthy with many berries and fruit. Stop here to satisfy your stomach.

Went here on Saturday morning with a large group of family. They have a very large cafe with plenty of tables and even a children's area if you are bringing them with you. They do have some tables outside if you want to sit out there.

Service was pretty good, it's all order at the till and get your own water etc but the food came out really quickly, same with the coffees. You could tell they were used to serving big groups of people.

I got the French toast which was really tasty. They offered maple syrup, lemoncurd and coconut yoghurt so lots of choice! Only thing I would suggest is not using canned apricots when everything else is so fresh. Nectarines or plums would have worked just as well and are really cheap at the moment. My partner had the Capers Constitutional which is a signature dish. He liked all the components together and separately only bad thing was the hashbrowns were a bit dry.

Would definitely go again with just us two or a big group as the service and food was good.

Kids friendly cafe๏ผ got the creative big play room for kids. Food were pretty good. I'm definitely give 5 stars for here. I even wanna give 7 stars for their play room if that's possible๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ

Coffee is great service is good deserts are fantastic but thatโ€™s where it ends
Menu is boring with very little on it of any substance most of it is premise and reheated
Cabinet food is even worse dry and flavorless
We were regulars but have moved our custom to abracadabra and others
Such a popular and busy establishment and it doesnโ€™t take long to see why. Amazing service even in the rush hour everyone here is lovely and there to welcome and serve. Our hot drinks were divine and our food was Morrish. My partner had a mocha which she said was 5 out of 5 and the bacon and egg bagel which was lovely. I had the hot chocolate and bacon eggs bene. Wow, so delicious! 3 perfectly poached eggs, nice amount of bacon and a very nice hollandaise with 3 small hash bites. So close to perfection! My very minor gripes and the only reason for only 4 stars were that the drinks were a little under size for my preference, we asked for large so if we had large Iโ€™d be very curious to see what the small looks like. And my Toast needed to be toasted longer. But other than that wow. Definitely returning and highly recommend!!!

WOW what an awesome find , this place is great . If you love your cafe culture then head here . Awesome atmosphere , seriously good coffee (literally the BEST almond mocha I have ever had ) the menu is interesting and exciting , I ordered the nourish breakfast bowl and it was sensational . The staff were super friendly , happily offering advice on local things to see and do . Thanks for breakfast guys .

Great coffee, great food, great service, great vibe. We are pretty picky being Melbourne coffee snobs but this place was as good as anything we have back home. The nourish breakfast bowl was a highlight

I am very impressed with our breakfast today. The Staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice clean and feel very relaxed even though they are very busy. We will definitely come back ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Went here for lunch while we were down there for the weekend it seemed like a very popular place amongst the locals & I figured why ....the food was delicious.

We ordered the chicken platter & seafood chowder along with berry smoothie. The chowder was really nice & creamy & the platter was good too. Just didnโ€™t like the spring rolls the platter had but other than that it was a nice experience.

Also the staff were super nice ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

My favourite place to come for breakfast but can be very busy so waiting for meals often takes a while. Friendly staff and a little area for kids is a bonus
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
A large, busy and buzzing cafe with a gorgeous range of wraps, rolls and savouries. There is also a very delectable dessert display and a limited amount of baked goods; they were already sold out of the blueberry and apple muffins by mid-morning. It's self-service so order and pay at the counter. If simply getting a takeaway coffee, proceed straight to the cash register to order and pay. (Saved about 15 minutes by bypassing the food queue)
Hilary Campbell
I get the feeling that the cakes and sweets are much more of a focus here then the savourys. I really wanted something savoury as it was lunch time but not much looked or sounded that appealing. Its also hard to make a good choice when you have a line of people waiting behind you also looking at food and you have to order at the counter. My husband made the right choice by choosing just coffee and cake. He said his coffee was great and his chocolate cake which I tried was delicious. I quickly chose a ridiculously oversized vege lasagne and a berry smoothie. The berry smoothie was yummy and light and had nice crunchy dried Berry's on top. The lasagne was overwhelming dry and boring and the carrots were undercooked. I would come back for a coffee and cake but nothing else
Kirstie Leigh
Good service and decent brekkie :)

Portion sizes were great (including the drinks). We got the eggs Benedict, eggs on toast and hot choccies and really liked it :)

Lunch for two on a Sunday. Cafe fairly full.
The cafe itself is well decked out and plenty of seating. Neat and tidy. There is a deli type shop that is part of the package. The atmosphere was average to good - not what you would call a funky cafe!
Staff were all very nice and looked after us well - well done.
There is a good range of food at this place. All well presented and the cabinets looked very tempting. Our order was delivered quickly and was very nice - good work.
Bit of work needed with the menโ€™s lav!
Other than that I would recommend going along for a look.
NICKIE
it was great to visit here and had great slice of cake with delicious mocha, very friendly service by lady on reception who served us we will come back again in our next visit to rotorua

I love this place. Great food, friendly staff and nice ambiance. We came here twice during our holiday. The coffee was so nice too! I love the mushroom strudels though it might be too creamy at the end.
Chloe
Hands down best cafe in Rotorua..rating wise
4.2 equivalent to Auckland
Kerryj
We had good coffee here and shared a slice of cheesecake. The cheesecake was soft almost like a mousse, tasted great. The cafe is busy with a utilatarian layout and the staff are very efficient. I'd come again.
Chomnomnom
Conjoined with a retail food store, the cafe was buzzing and packed when we arrived. We were seated fairly quickly and advised of the wait time of 30 mins on food. The cabinet food looked appealing, but we decided to order off the menu - worth the wait! The meals were beautifully presented and exceeded our expectations.

We had the French Toast and Nourish Breakfast Bowl. Coffees were nice and hot. Friendly service, smiles all round!

Stopped here after reading a review about how good their Lemon Tart was and decided to try it for myself, can honestly say it did not disappoint. This tart was simply devine, creamy, light, not overly tangy and probably one of the best I've had.If your a lemon lover then I suggest you give it a go ๐Ÿ˜†
Laura Jackson
Capers is the whole package! Their friendly service and warm, welcoming atmosphere is second to none. But their food AND their coffee is what has us going back for more! Their expert baristas make the most wonderful cup, and the crema is always perfect. Their cabinet is always fully stocked with delectable goodies, including their famous lemon tart and (coming from a savoury muffin expert) THE best savoury muffins I have ever had the pleasure of trying. Capers will not disappoint - 100% recommend!!
Caitlin Noonan
Delicious creamy mushroom that came rather quickly considering how busy it was on Saturday! The green smoothie wasnt very flavourful considering all the yummy fruit that was said to be in it. Lovely service and the cabinet food looks amazing. I loved the variety of nice food that they had in their store area. Will definitely be back next time I'm visiting rotorua.
Simon Wordsworth
I loved it. Nice spacious urban deli feel cafe (is that a contradiction?) with a great selection of healthy food. Very friendly service. Food looks smells and tastes great!! My green smoothie looked odd but was delicious. Can't comment on coffee as I didn't get one. Delicious home cooked beetroot and kumara, perfectly done eggs on pide.
Celene Aitchison
Lovely staff, delicious coffee, way too many nice options to choose from!! I had trouble deciding what to get because there were so many nice looking choices. Always a good place to go and can't be disappointed
Saudifooodie
Nice gourmet collection. The organic coffee left strong yet calm impressive taste. We also tried the lamb shanks after all the sheep we saw today left us craving for it. It was truly tasty. We will comeback again for the breakfast and to try the steak.
Katherinne Jaimes
Had a great breakfast, bagel bacon and egg with a side of mushrooms and a coffee. The food was delicious and the presentation was good. So it was the coffee. Definitely will recommend this place.
Anniehcy
Visited 2 times in the Rotorua holiday. Free range eggs, organic coffee and great food. Especially like the lamb shank and big breakfast. Highly recommend cafe in the Rotorua city.
Carli
Good range of healthy salads available to mix and match for a hearty and healthy lunch. Some were delicious, with the flavour lacking in others. I didn't much like the curried basmati rice, a bit bland and too many sultanas. The pumpkin salad and the mushroom salad were decent. My partner ordered the eggs benedict with ham hock. This was really well presented, a good portion size, and the ham hock was really thick and fresh. Given how popular capers is, everything is on the expensive side, however it has a great variety of dishes and health options. Noisy atmosphere and large dining space.
Vicki Ko
Have been here both times that we came down to Rotorua for a road trip! The first time the eggs bene was amazing! Perfectly cooked eggs. Unfortunately the second time the eggs were overcooked and was a little disappointing not getting that runny egg yolk when I popped the egg :( it's what helps make the eggs bene, an eggs bene! Nonetheless, the food was still good and the hashbrowns are my favourite! Tried their berry smoothie the second time and this was also delish :) would love to come a third time, and hopefully the eggs will be cooked properly!
P L
The food is OK, they have plenty of veg options (lacto-ovo and non) which is cool.ย
I would advise to check with the staff if making any adjustments to dishes (i.e. asking for a change in salad) re: upcharging ($$) as I did not ask about additional charges and I was surprised to be informed by my GST receipt (which I requested after payment) that this had happened (only $3.50 extra but if your changing salad on more than one dish this does add up).
Aimee R
One of the better cafes in Rotorua. The cabinet food is amazing, such a variety and lots of things you won't see at other places in town. They cater to all food requirements! Service is fairly quick and the coffee is great.
Chelle Marie
Service was awesome, staff were friendly and welcoming and chatty with all patrons. Made you feel like a local!
Food was great - plenty of options for dietary needs and normal eaters alike! Even includes vegan options with healthy portion sizes and healthy ingredients.
Offers T2 teas on the menu and to buy.
We loved the atmosphere in here, so chill! Would definitely recommend.

This restaurant is located in one of the quiet streets of Rotorua but don't be surprised to see heavy crowd in the restaurant.

Restaurant has very good Ambience and it makes you hungry as soon as you walk in. Their friendly staff are always waiting to help you.

I have been here for over few weeks everyday for my breakfast. Their food and coffee was always consistent in taste with near zero taste variance.

I've tried variety of food from this restaurant and eggs benedict would take the crown. It's amazing looks and flavour is to die for.

Great job people. See you next week.

Tip: food tastes amazing but it could be too pricy.

Individual ratings
Price 4/10
Serve time 8/10
Ambience 7/10
Food quality 9/10
Staff friendliness 8/10
Cleanliness &hygiene 9/10
Menu variety 8/10

Looking for a cafe in Rotovegas for a bunch of coffee deprived unqualified diners had me searching Zomato and I found this one with a 4.9 rating, which I think is pretty much unheard of for a Zomato rating, so we definitely had to stop by here... It reminded me a bit of Zarbo, deli selection, great cabinet food, amazing cake selection, plenty of seating, and according to my dining companion one of the best flat whites ever. Lots of ambiance and very popular, so definitely worth a visit!
Alayna Nukunuku Bedggood
Absolutely Devine I loved the fact that the buttermilk pancakes were still slightly doughy giving them the ability to soak up the amazing fresh blueberry compote they came delivered on with maple striped golden grilled bananas and perfectly crisped bacon as for the mushrooms with ciabatta they were some serious mushrooms with no room for shyness! Overall very impressed and will return for those delicious fluffy Sunday buttermilk pancakes and kind smiles and amazing service along with the beautiful jar of hard fruit candies jared to eye and mouth watering packaging that my partner and eye got the privilege of taking back home to Auckland with us overall, perfection!!
Lilly Christine
Busy cafe, good atmosphere. We ordered breakfast and coffees. Coffees came quickly but our food took a little while to arrive which was a downside. Waiters were lovely , and the food was pretty delish. I would probably come back here.

We were a bit late for lunch hour past 3, walking around Rotorua central this was the only place serving hot food other than a subway or the Turkish kebab guy. Luckily for us they had quite a few vegetarian options.

We had the vegetarian panini and the siacarta (i am not sure if I spelt it right) bread like a pita stuffed with eggplant, olives and pesto (i could be wrong but that's what I felt I tasted), they were happy to exchange the garden salad with any of the salads available. We choose the Mediterranean salad.

The meal overall was good just the panini had a little too much cheese in it. We also took the apricot fudge as a takeaway. Meal was a bit expensive. I loved the variety of gourmet pickles, sauces and condiments that were available. Again it's just the pricing for everything.
Chantelle Bergan
So incredibly happy to have found you! It's hard finding a healthy vegetarian meal while on holidays. We both had the granola with coconut yoghurt and fruit, soooo yummy I could eat it every day!
Jarvis Adams
Before we left Rotorua definetly had to check this place out! Many good reviews read and reccomendations also! Definetly worth going to wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others ,lovely food great staff and excellent service!!

Great service and food, can be somewhat pricy at time, but nevertheless great place. Will recommend to anyone. Also thy serve a good range of coffee.
Philip Reeve
Capers came recommended and I must say we did enjoy our visit.ย Food was a little underwhelming though and the whole place felt a bit like a cafeteria.

All that aside we left satisfied and also took away a few goodies from the cabinet.
Maino
The coffee was good and breakfast was just above average. This place caters well for large groups and has a good selection of current magazines.

Had breakfast here while visiting Rotorua. I ordered the creamy mushrooms on toasted ciabata. I was unfortunately not overly impressed, it wasn't bad but wasn't good either - just ok.
I felt like the mushrooms should have been cooked more, it was very watery. The sauce was ok, nothing wow about it. I feel like it needed a herb like thyme or something. I also wasn't a fan of the massive slices of parmesan that was on top, it melted into one large piece, in my opinion it would have been better finely grated.
My dining companions ordered eggs benedict, both were very happy that they got 3 eggs rather than the usual 2 but both were disappointed with the lack of hollandaise sauce.
Maybe I ordered wrong or maybe it was an off day. This cafe is clearly very popular. The service was good and the cafe has a nice open layout and is very clean. I would like to give them a chance again one day.

Had breakfast here while on holiday in Rotorua. This place deserves all the praise it gets. The service is great, the selection of food is superb from salads, to vegetarian to heavier meals and desserts to boot. I had the buttermilk pancakes special. Everything about it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and the fruit and bacon was a perfect accompaniment. The vegetarian wrap I tried was also full of flavour and felt fresh and enjoyable. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting great food while in Rotorua.
Jace Fairbairn
Chose Capers for breakfast in Rotorua, great list of options, French toast was a great and the coffee was great! Went back the next day to get a coffee even though it was out of the way!

Only down side, it is a little bit pricey but the staff are friendly and nice!
Zach Kutlow
We sought this place out while visiting as it had great reviews. I raised my eyebrows a bit when I saw the prices and the fact that we had to order at the counter and get a number for our food and we thought for sure that this place must be a chain. Not the case, apparently.

We ordered the chargrilled fresh fish and the lentil curry and I thought that the food was excellent. The plates were done very well and were very tasty.

I wish that the place was sit down as we thought that the counter-ordering cheapened the experience, but definitely still recommend for the great food.
Graeme Simpson
A casual cafe/restaurant with cosmopolitan class. Great food - breakfast, lunch or dinner - and excellent coffee (in a town where good coffee isn't too hard to find). Smooth flavour shows fresh, well-roasted beans and a nifty hand at the machine.
Good you can sit down for a meal or a snack from the menu or the cabinet - or grab a takeaway.
I'd walk a long way for the toasted brioche, honey and fresh fruit - with a large latte.
Quality all round. Good cakes! ;)
Cindy Ong
Capers open for breakfast, lunch till early dinner.
It doesn't close for afternoon break.
If you miss your breakfast time and wake up late and out for brunch this is a good choice.

Other than counter food, they have hot cooked dishes and freshly brewed coffee. There is also a fine produce section for cooking ingredients such as teas, cake ingredients & WTC.

The roast pork is so delicious. The kid lunch like nachos and spaghetti are very big portion, your children can share a portion of they are small eaters. The seafood chowder is disappointed.

Picky Diner
Not the service with a smile. On the food, I had the Salmon as the main. It had the right balance in terms of tenderness, however it lacked a bit of seasoning. The accompanying sauce and mash potatoes made up for the lack of seasoning. Place could do better if people are bit more inviting
Melanie Lim
My partner and I went to Capers Epicurean for a big breakfast when we were down in Rotorua. We went there expecting a lot as it was highly rated on Zomato. The atmosphere was lively and the food was great! There's really nothing much to say apart from praise. I would also highly recommend the tomato soup (the soup of the day) to warm you up on a cold day.
Toma Cullen
Such a great place for brunch / lunch. All the food was really delicious and the staff were so lovely. It's a really big space so even when it's full the atmosphere isn't muffled by crowdedness. The food selection is really broad and ethnically varied. Would come back for sure x

We spent the weekend in Vegas (Rotovagas) and was impressed with some of the great places to eat here like Capers Epicurean. This place has a a great deli selection of all sorts of goodness, coffees great, I had the Salmon and Spinach omelette and my partner had the Bircher Muesli both came out fast and full of taste!!! Highly recommend coming here if you plan a trip to the great little town that smells like farts!

A friend and I dropped in before the movies for a salad and soup and a couple of wines. The food was amazing , the prices reasonable and the service from the red head behind the counter was fantastic. I don't live in Rotorua but will definetly return when on holiday with the family again. Thanks for a great meal.

Had breakfast here on business trip with my wife. The service was splendid, staffs are friendly and food was over my expectation for casual morning cafe. The Beef Lasagna and Egg Benedict satisfied us very much. It's a recommendation for anyone.

The first time i ate here was a year ago. I had breakfast there with my mate and food is flawless including service. We had the eggs benedict... Eggs were cooked perfectly, their hollandaise sauce was faultless and not forget their hash brown that's so nice i could eat them all day. As soon as you walk in, rest assured that the staff will be looking after you and that someone attends to your needs asap. Wr had breakfast here again yesterday and nothing has changed in a year. This time we had the capers constitutional. It was a big feed and for it's price it's definitely more than worth it. Highly recommended. Great food great service great ambience and it's at thr city centre.
A Culinary Affair
The back story: Capers Epicurean was one of the recommended restaurants in the travel guides - recommending it for its brunch and bagel options. Conveniently located in Rotorua central, it was within walking distance of the main i-site and easy to find.

Setting : Walking into the main epicurean, my eyes were delightfully met with with large cabinets of glorious treats. Colourful salads and creative panini and sandwich options such as the caesar sandwich (a traditional caesar salad between bread) and pork and leek meatballs with linguine lined the cabinet. A large spacious interior with table options by the window with high bar stools to larger tables for families was ingeniously arranged. The coffee barista was located at the end of the cabinets with a reflective mirror overhead so customers could see their coffees being made - another innovative addition.

Food: I was stuck on what to choose but finally went for the 3-salad combo to maximise my choices. A raw cauliflower salad, smoked salmon and brown rice and couscous salad generously filled my plate, though other pasta salad and potato salad options made it difficult to choose. The salads were very well made with lots of ingredients. In my raw cauliflower salad, which was probably my favourite of the three, were walnuts, kale, bacon, raisins and cauliflower. Mixed into the couscous were pistachios, figs, chickpeas, tomato, onion. And the brown rice had capers, olives , capsicum topped with salmon. They were all a culinary delight, and very filling. My dining partner had the chicken stuffed with pumpkin and feta with bacon wrapped around it, which looked and tasted just as delightful. There were many other options I wanted to try including their large cabinet of cakes and slices but as the salads were so filling, I unfortunately will have to wait until next time.

Occasion : open from 7am to 9pm, capers epicurean provides loads of choices from breakfast to lunch to dinner. A warm casual layout, it is a good place for weekend brunch or a cake and coffee date.

Revisit potential : 10/10

great atmosphere. Very helpful staff. I normally don't write reviews but I was so impressed by Cappers that I decided I had to. Loved the food too.
Great cabinet food. I got to enjoy their rolled pork roast which way really good but the peanut butter cheese cake was the star on the day.

Nice place. Clean and tidy with good service. Called in for a cuppa and cake only but the food looked fabulous. Worthwhile.

FOODIES Paradise. Amazing deli style cafe with mind blowing options to choose from such as salads, focacias, serious breakfast menu, condiments and gourmet treats. Obliging friendly service and good coffee. Lovely atmosphere to relax and watch the world go by. Would love to try the breakfast, lunch and dinner menu.

We went here 3 times during our stay as we loved it so much - twice for breakfast as there was a fantastic selection and we couldn't fault the quality. Especially recommend the Mushrooms Melangeย and Boston Baked Beans - Yummo! For dinner the menu is more fine dining or you can order out of the cabinet, both great options. For dinner I had the herb crusted lamb rump and it was cooked to perfection. We also bought food out of the cabinet one day to take for our lunch and the sandwiches were delicious, well done Capers.Service was also outstanding and the staff were bubbly, friendly and very helpful, by our second visit we felt like regulars and it was nice. Would highly recommend to anyone.

They have one of the delicious food I have ever tasted (besides McDonald's) I've been there so many times and still love going back again and again , sometimes service is a bit slow but its worth it in the end.

We chose this place to eat as there was a kids room for our children. First impressions were nice and clean and huge. Staff were attentive, caring & friendly, food was good too. Tried the curry chicken on lentil, tasted yum, chicken was moist. Kids loved the shoestring chips, which were tasty and crunchy. Meals came out in good time. Ordered dessert but there was no ice cream. Kids got given smartbags to keep them occupied. Overall our family liked it and yes we'd visit again.
Kartick Trademe
One of the best in town. Excellent customer service and very caring, excellent coffee and food and very relaxing environment to hang out with friends in a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended. Their organic collections are great too. Have been going there for past 3 years and never seen dropping standard on customer service and standard.

What I liked ...
The ice mocha was lovely and the caramel slice was nice also, the kids room was great to keep the kids occupied so I could enjoy my meal (if of course the meal was enjoyable)

What I didnt like ...
The food
The Venison was overcooked and chewy and impossible to cut because of all the sinew, and with no steak knife cutting it was in itself a workout.
The Scotch fillet also overcooked and chewy more like a rump then a scotch fillet
The childrens meals were unedible, tasteless, presented worse then when my grandmother used to slop curried sausages on my plate. When I mentioned the un-cutable venison and it overcooked was told I would get a free dessert worth 20% what I paid for meat I didnt eat. Will never return the price does not at all reflect the quality of the food

Go 3times a year when in town and always loved their signature lamb kebab. But this time it is gone and my lamb salad was only really good not great. Change in chef maybe?

Desserts are great, don't like ordering at counter for evening restaurant meal though. Plus paying up front on company card means adding some extras later too easy to not bother. Would have had another beer if someone had asked and I had not already done payment.

Nice place but no intimacy, be lousy for a date!

Do have good new magazines to read which is great for single diners on business.

Worth trying.
Wine And Cheese
First we went in for a coffee & my partner really liked his but mine i swear was at boiling point - it was so hot i burnt my fingers & it took about 15mins for it to be drinkable.
We found a deal for this place in the Jason's Rotorua book so we decided to go there for dinner.
2x mains & 2x wines for $40 is such a bargain.
We both got T Bone steaks which were cooked to our liking & the veges were good. A nice meal & for the price excellent!
Sadly the drinks were almost room temperature - im guessing they were having problems with their beer fridges?
The staff were quite nice & they have alot of random gifty things to look at while you wait for your meal which was quite interesting & i enjoyed that & bought a couple of things.

This place looks more upmarket then most venues in area and one would assume the food would match that, looks though can be deceiving. I found this place on one of my strolls through Rotovegas and figured it must be good given how many people were in there service was good but food was pretty average, spiced lamb kebabs were edible but very bland I avoided yogurt on it entirely (at least I think it was yogurt?!?). Partner ordered noodles and it seemed a little underdone also, it could be it was off night but from my one and only perspective it just seemed like the place was glorified cafe pretending to be upmarket restaurant as prices were definitely not reflective. I also noticed clientele while I was in there to be quite aged (or it was grey power convention) I'm guessing if this was/is normal standard for the food, they must be relying on dulled taste buds of its clientele. So to summarise this place does have good variety on menu, service was this places saving grace for me, venue is appealing but food quality and prep is average with excessive price tag.
Cafe Puff
Capers was very well known cafe in Rotorua and I saw article about them. So that I went there for lunch as soon as I arrived Rotorua from Auckland.

I ordered egg Benedict and it was very nice, egg has nice round and well cooked. However, I also ordered pizza as a kid's menu for my child, it was not good as my meal. It just like frozen one which we can buy from super market.

Coffee was bit low than average. Barista worked well, but she need to attention when she doing milk steaming. She left milk jug alone with steam wand, so milk was been steaming by itself. After that she discard bubble. Someone doesn't care about it, but I don't like that way.

Also price was bit expensive.

First impression attentive and smiling staff! Best Flat white since a long time and a beautiful blueberry cake with white chocolate icing. Perfectly clean and inviting environment. Highly recommended!!!

Excellent food and lovely staff. Coffee definitely not as good as what we get at Le Cafe de Paris (or I would have given it another star). But Capers suffers from one of the worst problems to plague cafes and restaurants--extreme noise. This alone would have me giving an otherwise excellent place only five marks out of ten. I understand they tried to do something about it, but it just didn't work. A place as large as this needs carpet on the floor as well as acoustic tiling on both walls and ceilings. But the worst noise pollution is something that can be avoided: the use of a sound system. Large places like this just can't take additional din from loudspeakers. We had to stop coming here because we found ourselves unable to enjoy each other's conversation as we had our coffee and cake.
