Review Mokoia Restaurant - Rotorua

If you are looking for delicious food then this is the place. It's not a family restaurant but more of a fancy date night place. It's quite expensive but the food is really good. The highlight for me was the seafood chowder! 10/10. It's right near the water so it was a nice view. The service was friendly.

It’s located near the ocean. So you could go outside and see the ocean from the restaurant. Surprisingly the food they serve very good. Not much selections but all of the food they serve very good. I would recommend to eat here 👍

I made a reservation here for a special occasion and dropped off a homemade cake to the restaurant a day early. They were fantastic, everything about their professionalism and politeness was outstanding. We ordered two loafs to share, the vegetarian fettuccine, pork belly, seafood platter to share, and a side of roasted vegetables, as well as a bottle of sparkling wine. The food was divine, cooked beautifully and all bought out the same time too. We were given plenty of time to decide what we wanted, and the food was bought out in a timely manner. Overall the food, quality, presentation of the establishment was top quality.

Super delicious food. We had the seafood plate to share and it was surprisingly wondeful, from presentation to the taste (just a tad sweet, but generally super). Good combination of everything. Great creativity, chef!!!! Duck entree (appetizer) was awesome, and apple strudel dessert was delectable too. Staff was very friendly despite the fact that we were under-dressed. Price was very reasonable. Best restaurant in New Zealand amongst the ones we tried on our 8-day journey, even better than food in Auckland and Wellington. Highly recommend.

Staff are wonderful. Food was GREAT desert was incredible. Views were amazing and the grounds looked well looked after. Our room was perfect and bathrooms were tidy. Only thing I think that might be nice is the massage rooms could be darker. And someone on the desk at all times greating people in the spa.

We had an awesome fine dining experience here. I asked waitstaff Christel what can she recommend to me as a main course and dessert and it was really really yum! Ambiance and food was fantastic. Would like to thank as well the boys from the kitchen for making my birthday dessert really special. Got a photo but could not upload it for some reason. You guys rock!!!

A small, boutique restaurant attached to a spa and hotel. The food and the service were exquisite. The fish and soup of the day were both delicious and the trio of exotic ice cream to finish was unique. (The purple yam was our favorite). Without a doubt, though, the service was what made the whole experience stand out.

Food was delicious and service was excellent - attentive without being overbearing. My wife and I had the shared dining experience, which has two choices from each course that you share between the two people. Would happily return again.

Great food, great service and excellent wines to match. We ordered the bread to start, two of the first flavours and one of the mains, followed by two desserts. The food was exceptional, not to be missed if you enjoy food and are in Rotorua.

Had a great romantic meal here! Staff were very attentive. Food was nicely prepared and the presentation was fantastic. Worth the price. We will be back again!

Very hard to book as there are limited amounts of tables. The food took 45 minutes but luckily in compensation, we got a free bowl of French fries. The ice cream dessert was delicious consisting of the following flavours: Avocado ice cream, sea salt caramel ice cream and a white chocolate flavour ice cream. However, I know that this was a luxury restaurant but this was way too expensive for me.

We chanced upon Waiora Spa and were so pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem. Fantastic accommodation, awesome staff and a divibe setting by the Lake.....the highlight was dining in Mokoia last night. We absolutely loved it, the matre'd was so professional, friendly and attentive. Hubby and I shared the seafood platter and thoroughly enjoyed it. Such a different twist on the traditional seafood platter - simply delicious flavours, generous amounts ofseafood the lime and chilli flavours were perfectly balanced and everything was cooked to perfection. We will be back! Highly recommend!

Average food right there. I ordered medium rare scotch fillet taste plain and chewy. I was wondering how can they get so many awards for beef and lamb, and after main courses we just want get out of there, one of the waiter asked me "Are u sure not having dessert right here?" Which for me is unprofessional.
Struggling to understand some of the poor reviews here, seeing as you'd struggle to match or better the quality of food and service here. As someone who travels for work reguarly, I appreciate somewhere that ticks all the boxes for amazing food and service. We have tried most of the nicer looking restaurants in Rotorua several times, but we wanted to try something new for a special occasion. Dropping off a cake beforehand was hassle free. On the night we ordered a bottle of sparkling wine, two loafs, the pork belly, vegetarian fettuccine, the seafood platter and side of roasted vegetables. The attention to detail was phenomenal. The mains were all bought out at the same time. The seafood was cooked beautifully, and the flavours were divine. The pork belly was a apparently one of the best he has had in a long time. We recommend all the dishes we ordered and wouldn't change a thing. We were impressed with the presentation and the overall quality of the meals. The service was warm and genuine, as well as professional and polite. It was a wonderful and memorable evening. This is a perfect place for something a little more different, traditional and for a special occasion.

We ordered the clam chowder to share and they were nice to divide the serve into two for us. Wow...the chowder was packed with flavour. The table of 6 next to us had the same and they totally loved the chowder. My husband had their special which was the slow cooked lamb shank with kumara mash and red jus which was good but no wow factor. I had the Wai Ora glazed incrusted lamb with indigenous herbs and spices which was really good. We shared the signature trio ice cream.

We had the

🤦🏻‍♀️Disappointed, food is just average, I'm surprised they've win so many awards. The service doesn't match its price, totally doesn't worth it. The service is just like a regular restaurant, all they do is take orders and give us food. Don't come here if you have high expectations. So average. So average. So average.

Whilst the restaurant has great food and atmosphere, the waitress and food and beverage personnel have a lot to learn. Food was well presented and timely. Very comfortable to seat in.
Unfortunately the wine I had asked for which had received several gold medals was not the vintage they served me. In fact it was 2 years newer. They also had no idea what a decanter was! Very surprising for a restaurant of this calibre. Unlikely to dine here again.

What a great restaurant, Friendly efficient staff, great service. Our waitress suggested we have for a main any selection of three mains off the menu slightly smaller servings and served on a platter for two (shared dining option) so we had a lamb dish ,a venison dish and a pork dish. All cooked to perfection and really good value. We were absolutely amazed to see a restaurant using Native New Zealand herbs, we have never seen this before and it was delicious.
Unfortunately we live in Palmerston North or we would dine here on a regular basis but we will be back sometime.
WELL DONE

We have eaten here twice, both times the food was superb, the service was fantastic and we have recommended it to many of our friends, family, and to the many international visitors that come through our business. Discovered it through the entertainment book. We look forward to dining there again soon.
