Review Lone Star Rotorua - Rotorua

👍: -Probably one of my favourite restaurants from my trip to NZ, nice interior decor of a Cowboy texan Style restaurant. -Very very decent sized portions at a very reasonable price. -The redneck ribs were the best item amongst all. Ribs were well seasoned and tender and fell of the bone soft and juicy. -Friendly staff and excellent service. 👎: -The interior lighting is a little dim, else I loved the overall dining experience otherwise!

Dined at this restaurant for Matariki Weekend in Rotorua and it was very busy and we comfortably sat outside for dinner. They were very friendly and attentive despite this and were very fast and checked up often. Our food was amazing and the tornado cocktail was worth it. They even cooked the steak exactly medium rare! Great warm restaurant for families and people that have had a long day. Would go back again next time we go to Rotorua.

Exceptional dining experience, we hadn't made reservations and the staff were more than accommodating as soon as we walked through the doors. Prices are amazing especially the kids meals with free drinks and dessert. Wait staff have impeccable table service, the entire area was very clean including the restrooms. Food was served hot and super fast, not to mention delicious and massive portions. I highly recommend to all, I was super impressed and will definitely be back again next time I'm in Rotorua.

Charu from the Rotorua Lone Star was amazing server so attentive for our daughters 13th birthday, Thank you so much for making our night memorable and also for singing happy birthday to her with her cake that just topped off a perfect evening xx forever grateful it’s a rare occasion to get beautiful service and with even better food x Thank you The team and Charu

Dined here from 6pm to 8pm on a Saturday evening. Lovely food although my mussels in my dish were super tiny which was a bit disappointing. Very tasty though. Super friendly staff. Very attentive. Very loud in the area we were sat, had to shout the entire time over the music which was very draining. Toilets were not the nicest and there was no hand soap dispenser available in the toilet?

Great location with a lot of choice on the menu, I had the steak, and it was good, meat good have been better, but overall, my experience was good. Friendly staff and good customer service. Parking was but difficult at night time but location was great for dinning.

Quiet night and the food could have been better. Awesome Lamb, above average steak, average venison. Ribs were consistent, and burger large. Garlic bread was warm and full of butter, very lovely!

Both their food and service were pretty good. We had maverick fillet and rockin ribeye. Also one pork and one prawn salad. Would come back if we come rotorua again. Recommend!

This place is probably the worst experience I’ve had in a restaurant. The service was too long. We were waiting for at least 1 hour. Some of the customers that recently just arrive even got their food before us. Like at least serve us the chips we ordered. The staff was also quite rude.. Never coming back here... ever.

Nice food and good service. Meals are so big thought there is a lot of food going back. If you are a big eater this is for you. Tasty food and well cooked.

6 diners 5 good meals one meal was dry and sent back manager didn't even acknowledge this and seemed put out when it was mentioned. Service is what wrecked this dining experience.

Decided to come to lone star while on holiday as other lone stars we had been to were good. There was a bit if a wait for a table but that's was okay we just ordered a drink at the bar and were seated fairly quickly. It was average wait time to be served where we ordered the squid starter which came out promptly and was pretty good. The issue was the mains, I ordered the honky tonk chicken and it took over an hour to come out there was no apology and it wasn't that busy once we had gotten through our starter. I was disappointed the chicken breast was dry and the "marinade" was just a sauce on top as once I got into it, it was plain. The side slaw was decent just needed a bit if dressing and the potatoes a bit of a season. We left promptly after without getting dessert as it was way too late to order.

The friendly welcoming as we entered Lone Star Rotorua was great and a nice preview of the beautiful meal and service we experienced. I ordered the single lamb shank on a bed of mashed potato with a serving of steamed spinach, it was delicimo yum yum. Followed by the taste of summer sponge special desert and a long black coffee. I thoroughly recommend Lone Star Rotorua.

Another lovely place to eat in Rotorua. 8 of us dined here on a Saturday night. It was quite busy when we arrived and were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait if not sooner. We weren't too fussed because we still waiting for others to arrive. Within 5 minutes we were told our table was ready and it was perfect timing. We all day down a mulled over the menu. A very friendly waitress named Cassidy came over to take our orders. She took down the orders and was very helpful with explaining this dishes. Once our dishes arrived we all tucked in since we were all hungry. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and kept raving about how good their dishes were. <br/><br/>Before we left I made it a point to tell the manager how great Cassidy's service was. She was happy and friendly and made our night. <br/><br/>Absolutely loved our meal!

Our server was particularly memorable because of her amazing service. She was extremely attentive and checked on us often to see if we needed anything. <br/><br/>To start we ordered the loaf with regular butter and garlic butter. The garlic butter was amazing!! Bread was very difficult to cut and crumbs went everywhere. For mains I ordered the johnny cash stash which was incredible as always - tender chicken with Lone Star's famous slaw. We also got the lamb shank pictured below which was equally as delicious. <br/><br/>Overall good experience with great food ☺️

Go here if you want food poisoning! Horrible service, food took forever to come out, the manager was horrible and the only positive thing about being there was the lovely wait staff that served us

should have read the reviews before visit this restaurant. Friday night is busy and when things get busier service going down hill. Probably all the staff didn't get trained about how important customer service is. Will definitely not recommend to others.

Typical steakhouse.<br/><br/>Large portions, good vibe.<br/><br/>The steak was pretty good, it was a little dry and it would be nice to have a basted steak. But other than that it was above average. <br/><br/>The Nachos are a particular treat.

Went there 2 weeks ago with family. Food was good, service was a total mess. I ask for a sweet chilli sauce, was given a tabasco. I requested again and the girl who served us was not happy and sort of forcing us to use tabasco claiming its the same (sweet chilli and tabasco are the same? really?). When she gave us the sauce, didn't apologize and rudely throw the sauce in our table. <br/><br/>Bad experience. What makes it worse, this was our first trip to NZ and we were excited to have dinner in this place. I guess this is what happen if you employ most of teenagers for your service. will not be back. plenty of better steaks out there with much better service.

Went to a 50th at Lonestar Rotorua and all in all they catered quite well for the large group of us. Being a Saturday night the restaurant was extremely busy and the staff were rushed off their feet but they did make the time to entertain our needs and make sure everything was alright.<br/>Food itself is just the same as any Lonestar you go to big portions steak cooked quite well, large chips and a salad. but just not the wide variety to cater for the different tastes of today.<br/>Lonestar still works on the concept it did from day one of trying to be an American restaurant and has been successful but soon just like in other parts of the country new restaurants with an American theme will pop up with better menus at a cheaper price. Lonestar will need to expand its menu if it would like to continue to be the dominant force that it seems to be in Rotorua.<br/>For the price you pay and a menu that you could quite easily reproduce at home Lonestar gets a 3.5 from me. The only things that made this night memorable was the ambiance, the staff and the people we had dinner with.

We ate in the bar where there was no service but the bar staff were nice. The food was tasty. A bit pricy for what you get but it's a nice place to go for a treat.

Great fast service and well cooked food. Kids meals are great value and adult food tasty and wholesome. Only moan (my English mum) was that Buffalo Chips weren't 'chips' (fries) but more like roasties!! Didn't spoil the meal tho!

My boyfriend and I stopped in on a busy Friday night for dinner based on reviews. The service was good and it was clear that there was care in training, that was great. We ordered a Cesar Salad without chicken and the Cajun Chicken as well as drinks and a side of fries. <br/><br/>Mains are priced around $30 so we were expecting a pretty good dinner. My salad arrived without dressing and with chicken, and our fries were mixed up with something else. The food was very average and not very good at all despite the price, but our waitresses were polite and sweet so we came to the conclusion that our bad food was apart of the charm! <br/><br/>Would recommend going if you don't want McDonald's for dinner, but don't expect a fantastic meal :)

Road trip to Rotorua, looking for somewhere to dine on our first night in Rotorua, saw Lone Star.<br/>We had to wait 15mins to get a table, which is understandable as they were very busy. So me and my partner went for a walk around the town and came back in 15 minutes. The bread we ordered in the beginning with the garlic spread was delicious and filling as well as the chicken nibbles we ordered. The mains were great we ordered the two shanks and the salmon. Great serving sizes, was very filling. The only let down was the salad that came with the lamb shanks did not really go with lamb shanks, though was a fresh salad with nuts in it. <br/>The service was excellent, we were greeted when we entered and the waitress serving us were great.<br/>Other than that everything was great and will come back if I'm ever in town again.

Not suitable for coeliacs. The food here is generally very good, and the portion sizes are huge! Having eaten here a few times I can definitely recommend it.<br/><br/>However, after phoning ahead to make sure that the kitchen takes all precautions not to contaminate gluten free meals, my coeliac girlfriend made the bold decision to jump in and give Lone Star Rotorua a go. She ordered the vegetarian nachos, something that pretty much every place knows how to get right when it comes to a gluten free version. However, she was poisoned, and after checking all of the ingredients used in the dish the owner came to the conclusion that it had happened because the wrong fryer was used for the chips. This is shocking for a place that has a separate fryer just for gluten free items. I can only assume that the chefs took no notice of the big bold "Gluten Free" on the order docket that they were making off. Unfortunately I have to recommend that even though Lone Star advertise allergen friendly meals, and even have an allergen menu available, coeliacs should avoid eating here simply because the kitchen staff don't appear to take these requests seriously.<br/><br/>The manager was very nice, and extremely apologetic and I can only hope that the chef in charge of our meal got a damn good talking to for what he did. People need to realise that allergies are extremely serious.

Epic fail. After having very good experiences at Lone Star's in Auckland, Queenstown and Invercargill we were looking forward to the same standard at Rotorua for our rare family getogether. We arrived on a busy night but you would expect a 140 seater that has been operating for some years to be on to it. Mistake. They weren't. Restaurant was very noisy and loud, we could not have a conversation amongst ourselves, in fact to talk to the person sitting next to me I had to shout. Our waitress stood at one end of the table and shouted out the specials which weren't, they were already on the written menu. Bread for the table arrived after approx. 20 minutes was ok, bread's pretty hard to stuff up. We waited for one hour and 10 minutes for the mains to arrive with the waitress coming back about 5 minutes before the mains came out shouting out an apology and would we like more drinks. No we would like our food please. All 9 meals had a generous serving of tasteless coleslaw, "buffalo chips" which in fact were halved gourmet potatoes luke warm and greasy, 3 pork loins, meat very good but crackling soft not crispy, stuffed chicken breasts again very good but the same as what you buy frozen at the supermarket, pan fried "fresh" fish (terikihi?) which was very strong bordering off and 2 well done steaks which is what was ordered but these were thin, cremated and like boot leather. Upon settling the bill we were asked how our meals were, when told they were terrible we received an indifferent shrug of the shoulders. At the prices this restaurant charges you would expect quality, overseas visitors must leave feeling totally ripped off. We did and won't be back. Not a good ambassador for the Lone Star franchise.

Excellent experience and food. My wife and I and our two young kids were treated wonderfully from the moment the doors were open to us! The service from the maitre'd was excellent, he and our waiter, made the experience memorable. The dixie chicken was perfect. The kids meal superb. The salmon divine. Lovely American warm feel big meal feel.<br/>The kids had coloring pencils and activity sheets which was great. A kids room would be amazing and something to consider. ; D

Went to have an early dinner with my three girls. Unfortunately we were 45 minutes early as the kitchen didn't open until 17.00 but the kids were hungry so ordered tasting platter from the bar menu. Obviously a mistake. The ribs and battered fish were only nice things on it. The raw battered luke warm onion rings are probably the worst thing I have tasted for many years. Even the chips were not cooked properly, they were pale and soggy. Won't be returning

I have been here twice and both times the service and the food is spectacular and I will be going back the Dixie Chicken and the Jack Daniels Chocolate Pudding is always a good finish off to the night. But I always find it hard to drive home after a meal there. Oh the Cobb Bread so fresh and yummie and a sides must have. Well done

Enjoyed at girls night out here.<br/><br/>Great food, cooked beautifully. I had the Cajun chicken which was succulent &amp; not dry like some can be. Friend had the salmon which was cooked to perfection.<br/><br/>Very nice friendly staff great service.<br/><br/>Couldn't fault it in any way! Portions were great. A lovely meal had by us all :)<br/><br/>Would recommend.

Big meals, family friendly servvice, fun atmosphere. We came here in January as escapees one night from a Camp we were attending and had cruised Eat Streat for something suitable for the kids (under 10) but found nothing that would satisfy everyones preferences. This hit the spot nicely. Will return next time we're in Vegas.

A group of 4 of us recently went on a girls weekend away to Rotorua and were staying at some accommodation that was just down the road from this Lone Star.<br/><br/>'YAY!' we thought, as we LOVE the Lone Stars in Auckland and will quite often pop in for a catch up dinner. However, Lone Star in Rotorua is a completely different story! <br/><br/>The staff there were completely disinterested. They looked flustered and rushed off their feet even though we got there just after opening and there was only one other table (of 2) there. We felt like we were intruding and a nuisance. We waited at the bar to be seated for 20 minutes and were only seated when we noticed the other couple were being seated and went and asked whether we could take a seat yet. No apology was recieved, just a non-smiling escort to a table and menus given.<br/><br/>The food was so so, I've had better. But because of the bad service none of us will be returning there again.

Way better than 2 years ago. We crossed the Lone Star off our list of places to dine through bad service (very slow). We did let them know of our disappointment after our 3rd visit.<br/><br/>Went again at end of 2010 for a sports team dinner. Both meals and service improved markedly. Enjoyable night.

Went here whilst on holiday last week.<br/>Service was great, and prices reasonable.<br/>I had a chicken dish which was stuffed and came with buffalo chips and salad, very tasty and huge meal. My friend had a Prawn meal (prawn star) which was also really big and she said was very tasty.

Extremely busy the night we visited but very impressed - we had a voucher for a free Lone Star loaf which is a freshly baked bred loaf with garlic and herb butter on the side - delish! <br/><br/>I had a porterhouse (sirloin) perfectly cooked medium - came with buffalo potatoes, coleslaw and a honey mustard sauce $32 - Ron had a ribeye with the same sides but with pepper sauce - again perfectly cooked $32 as well<br/><br/>Service very attentive, could not say anything bad about this place besides the slightly pricey prices!!
