Review Lime Cafe - Rotorua

Rachel Edwards
We visited when holidaying from Australia last week. We actually came back a second day and had the exact same breakfast because we loved it so much! Vanilla risotto for breakfast is completely amazing. The nicest thing I’ve ever had at a cafe for breakfast anywhere in the world! The French toast was equally as lovely, with perfectly cooked bacon on the side. Coffee was nice, and we loved the chocolate fish marshmallow that came with it. Service was friendly and quick. If we were in town longer, we would have come back again!!

My husband and I had brunch on a Tuesday we order the big breakfast & Mince on toast with an egg. The BBF was amazing my husband said it was the best he had had. I had the Mice dish which was lovely however unfortunately I was unable to finish it as it was a very generous portion. We will be back & will recommend to any visitors & friends.

Very lovely meals, with fast and friendly service.

Had the pancake stack with berry compote, plum, maple syrup and mascapone. Decent serving of 5 pancakes, plum was a little too sweet for my liking would have preferred a little more berries instead. Coffee was one of the best I've had in NZ since arriving almost 2 weeks ago in Auckland. Waitress was friendly and meals were served promptly.

Looked up this place and it had the best reviews, the reviews weren't wrong. The coffee was that good I had to go back for a second one. Coming from Melbourne this coffee is of that standard. Keep up the good work team.

Great coffee, pastries, and delicious egg dishes make this place a real winner for breakfast or brunch. The people are delightful, and even though we had no children with us at the time, we loved the location opposite the lovely lakefront park with one of the best children’s playgrounds I’ve seen anywhere.

I don’t claim to be an expert but their seafood chowder is the best I’ve ever had - creamy, full of flavor and generous seafood portions! Forgot to take a photo so all I have is one of the empty bowl… We also had the eggs benedict and it was delicious. Best of all the service is quick, friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

The pancakes were great. Coffee was really good!

Really good big breakfast! The avocados with the smash were not fresh though. Overripe and refrigerated. But get the eggs and mushrooms and their baked goods. All are amazing.

Awesome cafe, great location. Meals were great value, very reasonable portions which taste great. Coffee & Chai were delicious. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back next time we're in Rotorua

Best coffee we have had for a long time. Generous food servings. Nice location, quiet street. Clean as well. Will go back again

We went here for Sunday brunch on our way out of Rotorua, and it didn't disappoint! The food was delicious, the coffee was GREAT. Service was a little slower than expected, but that is expected with how busy they were. The weather was nice and we were able to sit outside.

How delightful to be welcomed by the smiling eyes of Danielle who took our order without fuss. The coffee was excellent in a mug as ordered and the food inexpensive and tasty. Definitely recommended.

Great cafe. Cappuccino’s were perfect, good coffee for sure. The smashed avo was superb, really filling. The breakfast was big enough to share between two people if you’re looking for a light breakfast. Their cabinet is filled with amazing looking baked goods too. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I’ll definitely come back when in town.

Even though the closing time is over, we have received guests and provided delicious meals and thank you for your kind service.

Met up with some family here for lunch. The food was ok but very overpriced. It was $8.50 for each cheese roll. Even for a tourist spot that's exorbitant.

The system for paying or ordering didn't work very well. They didn't give numbers for the tables so the wait staff were constantly running around trying to figure out where each order went. They were constantly asking us our whole meal if we'd ordering things that weren't ours. My order went to 3 tables before it made it to me.

Overall pretty poor and I won't be back. I wouldn't recommend it.

Went here yesterday and this place is sooo overprice. I got a waffle and for the price of $20, I dont think it was worth it.. they even cut in half and it was the size of a toast. Very small portion... The food was more for looks than the taste. Service took too long. Never coming back..

Nice place, food was good and waiters were nice. Front of house woman on the till didn’t want to be there and was not very pleasant to deal with

Came to Lime Cafe for lunch today and was very impressed! The staff were very friendly and nice to talk to. I ordered the bacon and eggs on ciabatta which was faultless and the bread was to die for. Would love to go back to try their waffles which looked amazing!

Great spot to stop in for breakfast while you're in Rotorua. The menu is adequate in size and they offer a large selection of cabinet food. Great coffee and fast friendly service. I aways stop in for breakfast when staying or passing through Rotorua.

Hmm it was good food, a great selection but for on the pricey side for a lunch date with a friend. Definitely just went for the slices because I cannot decide and it was great! Such lovely and helpful service, top notch!

Great little cafe slightly hidden away from the busy main roads of rotorua. Staff are really friendly and helpful, coffee was hot, fast and delicious and the food was exactly the same. Waffles are amazing!!! Will Happily come here again.

This is the best breakfast place in rotorua area. I have tried all and this was the best i wish i knew it earlier or it had 4.9 rating so we did not waste time. We tried the waffles and the bagel and both were amazing and the service was the beat.

Visit Lime Caffeteria with my husband on our Rotorua road trip. Well decorated shop, friendly staff and great food. We ordered chicken sandwich, fish! and waffle, was worry that I wont be able to finish chicken sandwich and waffle on my own, but both of them are so nice especially chicken sandwich. Would love to come again just for chicken sandwich XD

Absolutely obsessed with this café, and I am so gutted I live in Auckland! My new favourite café for sure. Starting off with the interior designing of the building with clean cutlery and tables, to the excellent customer service in which the waiter was very friendly and welcoming, and I loved the knots and crosses game on the tables to occupy the customers as they wait for their meals. I had the waffle (bacon and banana) and it was definitely for sure the best waffles I have ever tasted in my life. I'm going to make my own version of it at home! My friend got mushroom on toast and it also tasted beautiful. Such creative meals! I loved my experience here, and I loved the vibes the café had. For sure, every time I visit Rotorua I will be coming to this café at least once.

Great place for a classic breakfast with the basics down right! Ordered the spinach eggs benny with the hollandaise on the side. Eggs were perfectly poached and I enjoyed how the spinach was really just wilted- more often than not my spinach is over to overcooked. Also enjoyed my chai latte as it was a great balance of the sweet and spice.

In a glance around the table I noticed that everyone else enjoyed their meal as plates were left clean. Good portions and a lovely and bright space to dine.

We were Rotorua for a weekend and couldn't not visit Lime. The last time I was here was a few years ago and it's just as good as I remember. We had the mushrooms, salmon and the crumpet special. All were amazing and hit the spot!

Only been here a couple times over the course of three days. Once was in the busy morning rush, and another in the afternoon when it was pouring down with rain. Customer service was decent; I never heard a single rude word, and was promptly served both times. Their coffees are amazing. I had a chicken Caesar bap and absolutely loved it. The egg was perfectly cooked. They used chicken luncheon, which was a bit of a disappointment for the price, but I loved it because it really complimented the overall texture of the bap. I really can't give it that last 1 point until I go there again to see if the high standard is consistent, and also... because some of it was definitely just a tad pricey.

Went here for breakfast when we were in Rotorua and was extremely impressed. The staff were friendly and the bacon and eggs i ordered with extra salmon and mushrooms were devine. Would definitely recommend going here if you are in Rotovegas

This was our second time in Lime Caffeteria. I ordered waffle with banana unfortunately the waffle served was too crispy not fluffy at all. I felt like eating biscuit than a waffle. Very disappointed. It was better when we last visit. My children ordered egg and bacon on toast, they were nice.

We had the bacon and eggs on toast with a side of lamb and mint sausages, and the mince and cheese pie with side salad from the cabinet. Both really nice dishes, well presented and perfectly cooked. The spicy sauce was an awesome addition and u bought a bottle of the homemade sauce as well. Nice coffee. Decor/ambience nothing to write home about - just your average cafe in that respect.

Friendly staff, good location and often busy. Sometimes some good/interesting dishes on the specials (hanging on the wall new the to the kitchen hatch). Some menu selections better value than others.... Check-out the cakes cabinet for afters....

this place is tooooooo overpriced. I had egg benny with salmon, which cost me $19, the price is normal, but the food I got was just 2 small slice of salmon, with 2 small overcooked ciabattas, hollandaise was tasteless, not like the photo, not come with hash brown. And the coffee I had is latte, but almost half of the cup is milk foam, which cost $4.5. Totally shitty cafe. Don't go there when you have other choice!

Went here on queen birthday monday for breakfast the place was full and thats why i choose it, when we got to the till to order we got advice by the lady that hardly ever smile that we needed to take a sit and someone will bring us the menus, after 20 minutes waiting on our table and to see the waiters walking around us without even look at us we decided to leave without being served, we approach the lady on the till to get a muffin that looked good and our table got used by someone else, as soon as those people sat down someone offered them the menu and served them in a good way, we told the lady on the till that it was very bad how we waited 20 minutes and none came but they were served right away, she couldn't even apologize to me.
What i saw that morning is they care about the BUCKS and not the people, none smile none make it familiar and cozy for a customer, they are busy but not because the best service, because thats obviously something they haven't got right, definitely not coming anywhere close and telling everyone i know not to go there.

One of the best Cafe's in town. The food selection was great. I had a cooked breakfast. Coffee was great. Only criticism was the staff. They weren't overly helpful. Seemed a bit disinterested. Position was fine with a good outlook towards the lake.

Coffee is always good. Food is good most of the time, sometimes with strange ingredient combinations. Cabinet food doesn't look as appealing to me. Pricier but good

We chose Lime for a recent family Sunday brunch. Thankfully we booked, as they were very busy. Our party of eleven (aged 2 years to 80 something years old) sampled a few different dishes, including the cabinet frittata and eggs benedict (both salmon and spinach). They even managed to rustled up poached eggs rather quickly to keep our toddlers in a good mood. The breakfast berry risotto was AMAZING (I had food envy, as it wasn't what I ordered), and the coffee was hot and strong. The service was a tad slow, we had water glasses, but no water, however the food was really good. A great brunch venue.

Used to be a regular at Lime Caffeteria, but the past few visits have been a little disappointing. The staff seem disinterested in 'service' and while the food is great, it seems to take a while to come out of the kitchen. It doesn't feel like the place it used to be, but the food & coffee is consistent.

When a cafe displays an award for best cafe in Rotorua and the meal isn't up to scratch it doesn't say a lot for the other eating places in the city. This cafe was once a favourite, being a great stop enroute to Tauranga. So I was disappointed this time, when ordering a prawn and chorizo skewered salad for $23 to find it drenched in dressing, even over the handles of the skewers. Without a soup spoon to ladle out the contents I transferred it to the plate served under the bowl and was disappointed further to find a very small salad. With the amount of dressing left on both plates it must have been obvious it wasn't an appealing dish. I mentioned it to the server, but no apology was given.

expensive food but quality. great location and excellent hosting. Highly recommended.

We had lunch here last week and it was superb! The staff were friendly and engaging and the food very tasty with beautiful presentation. The coffee was also great - we will be back for sure! There was nowhere in the main Rotorua restaurant area that even looked appealing to go into.

My rating is a combination of the atmosphere and the food the atmosphere and the service was excellent.

The food was very bland

My husband had the eggs bene and the eggs were overdone, no gushing yolk, the spinach however was delicious.

I had the bacon and eggs, the toast was dry there was no sauce it was exactly what it said it was, two poached eggs (also overcooked) bacon and toast, no garnish no sauce not even any butter?

The hot chocolate was very pleasant and the coffee was also very yummy. Will try again however could of just been an off day. Makes a difference when the staff are lovely

We have been here 3 times now & pretty much the only thing we have come back for is the Vivace coffee which is hard to find in Hamilton. The coffee itself was good but for a fancy looking cafe they have some seriously cruddy looking coffee cups? I thought most upmarket establishments served latte's in bowls or glasses?? These looked like old milo mugs you'd find at a garage sale. Sorry to be harsh but they weren't very attractive when you compare them to the quite nice decor.
And we found the staff to be very disappointing.
The lady on the till looked so pissed off & was quite abrupt towards us & it's really not very welcoming. The general vibe in there wasn't a happy one - something in the water???

I went to Lime Cafe with my partner and his family in Dec 2012. The cafe was busy when we arrived but they managed to find us a seat quickly. We ordered French toast, seafood risotto, mushrooms with cream and an open chicken sandwich, eccels cake and coffee. The coffee arrived late - after we had devoured the cake, the chicken sandwich was not quite right and hence we were given 20% off this dish by an unfriendly cashier.
All our meals were delicious and the coffee was good!
They could do with better service and it would help if the cashier could smile some more.
I am rating this experience as average due to the unfriendly cashier and the coffee arriving really late.
If I had to rate it on food only - it would be 4 stars.

Having been a faithful limee for a few years now, it is time to have my say.

The food is rather lovely, can't really fault it. The cafe is comfortable, not gonna fault that either.

The problem is that the menu has not been changed in the entire time I have been visiting this place. It is just so boring! More than two risottos is enough for any menu but to then go and add another on the SPECIALS board is just OTT.

Please - Lime people, please - change the menu!!
Julia
I have been a Lime addict for almost 8 months now.
They serve great tasting coffee. It is NEVER cold or burnt. The staff are very welcoming, happy, and friendly. I regularly indulge in a peice of baking and have not yet been disapointed. The only meal I have ordered here is the eggs benedict it was delicious but the sauce could do a bit of work. Otherwise this place is well worth a try.

My brother and I ate breakfast here twice in mid-March - the day before, and the day after, we had completed the Waikaremoana track.
On both occasions we had the eggs & bacon and a couple of long blacks each. We could not fault either. The breakfast was excellent in every way, and the coffee was superb. To top it off, the coffees on the first day didn't cause any problems while hiking later on!
Service was with a smile, and staff were all pleasant to talk with.
I will return again when I am next in Rotorua.

i went to this cafe on a cold winters morining i ordered the soup and in doing sowas told i would recieve the corn chowder as the soup of the day on recieving my meal i was given some mushroom and blue cheese soup. the staff were not particularly freindly and one of them looked as though shed been up all night. not a good look for a a place that before i was going to regularly. having said that generally it is wonderful service and great coffee im not going to let this one bad experience stop me eating here.
