Review Yaki Yaki - Rotorua

Hannah Jojofa
It's like a must do coming to Yakiyaki each time when we visit Rotorua. We have been a returning customers since 2015. Although to be fair, since COVID hits and inflation, price has increased and food variety has been modified. Although things has been changed a bit, it's still one of the best and most reasonable places you can get here in Rotoura. Their friendly staff is what makes this place also running so successfully. The lady Ms. R saw I was struggling a bit with the stove, she would come up to help without needing me to ask for help. Her friendly smile was so warm, we all felt very welcome by the team. They all come up to help change the baking paper for cooking very regularly. Food was great 👍 a few changes were made but the buffet Kimchi quality has remained super. It's a good place for family and friends gatherings. Well done.

Spacious and instant service. We went for lunch, it is $25 for the BBQ special, it's a little bit more at dinner time. It's all you can eat meat, rice and salad. You also get a Miso, nibbles (so good) OR dumplings as a started. Pork - We cook it first and then cook the other meat so it ends up crispy. Chicken - This is good and is marinated. Beef - It's just plain beef.

We were greeted then had the option to choice our table for four, our order was the BBQ special, this consisted of pork, beef and chicken ( free refill) served with rice (free refill) side salads (free refill) Bean Tofu soup (free refill), we chose the chicken nibbles, chilled water available, as you are required to cook the meat one cannot moan about the chef skills cause your IT!!! be careful as you cook though (K Drama experience meal wise) Loved it all 😋

Yes great service. its fun cooking food at the table. We had chicken and steak pieces and as much veges you want plus rice and a small soup are served while waiting for food to cook Neat idea about a very small soup so you don't get full to quick.

Special BBQ dinner was definitely worth the money. Good flavours and plenty of sides to choose. Unlimited meat as well damn it was so good.

This unassuming restaurant surprised me with a delicious Kimchi pancake. I ordered the small and it filled me. I cancelled my main order... yummy. I was given a side plate to dish the side orders. Really good, I’ve never eaten ‘jelly blocks’ and actually liked it 👍 The atmosphere was relaxed. A few large tables that I enjoyed observing. I was seated at the bar because it was only myself. Definitely give a try!

Go for the All You Can Eat menu! For $25, this is the best deal! Especially for eating out in New Zealand. The meat was good quality and the other side dishes were nice too. Lots of variety. We chose to get the flounder that came with the all you can eat and it was so good! The staff were friendly and attentive. However, reading other people's reviews, don't be put off if the waiters seem unattentive. It is custom in Korean dining, you really have to flag down the waiters if you want something. We would totally eat here again!

Referred here by a local for lunch and was presently surprised, considering the recent reviews. We were actually going to The owner/manager was very friendly and we quickly got a seat, placed the BBQ option, and received our food. The sides were delicious and unlimited, and the meat was also weel flavored. You could get drinks, water, and sides yourself. My favorite sides were the pickled onions, kimchi, and fish cakes. I could see how busy they were with only 2 employees on the floor. They had no time to clear unfinished tables which detracted from the atmosphere. But we're extremely attentive to those who walked in and were still eating. I asked for rice and meat refills and both can within minutes. Both my wife and I enjoyed the kbbq lunch and would definitely come again!

Really enjoyed our visit. We went for the all you can eat option and it was great. The staff were helpful and attentive, making sure you have enough food and changing the grill frequently to prevent burning. The kimchi and other sides are good as well. Definitely worth a visit.

It has been a while since I last dined here, and the experience is still awesome. We received a warm welcome and the service by the ladies out front was friendly and attentive. Good selection of fresh side dishes and plenty of protein beautifully marinated.

Tried the $27 BBQ deal last night as part of a group of 3. Staff were pleasant, gave good instructions and very attentive to topping up our meat, bowls of rice and changing the baking sheet. Food was delicious and fresh spec the meat!! Ambiance is pretty plain but you go for the food and it was nice and clean. Great quality Korean BBQ and well worth the money spent :) Must try!!

Had this restaurant when we visited Rotorua. Totally disappointed. Meat was not fresh and the portion was small and lettuce was $10 can’t believe this. Not recommended at all.
This is our go-to-place when visiting Rotorua.
Still packed @8pm Saturday night.
I reckon meat are better than a lot of Korean BBQ place in Auckland.

The worst Korean food ever tasted. Side dish seaweed taste like grass. Waitresses don't know what they are doing. The bowl of rice is only half full and the dish is very expensive with such quality. Totally not recommended.
Have not spent much time in Rotorua previously but felt like a Korean BBQ. Found Yaki Yaki and boy what a treat. All you can eat BBQ, frieldny staff along with all you can eat self service condiments.

Holidaying in Rotorua, decided to head out for dinner at this restaurant. Greeted by the owner upon arrival, order taken less than 5mins after we sat down. Pretty good service, food was good with free refills except for a selective few however soup was disappointing as its basically miso soup with added tofu and spring onions, overall, experience is good. More than adequate space to dine in although some tables are too close for comfort.

Great food for a good price!

We have just moved to Rotorua and decided to take our family out for dinner as a "thank you" for helping us move. We decided Yaki Yaki on a suggestion from a cousin and absolutely loved it.

Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Service: ⭐⭐⭐
Ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Price: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The meat is marinated beautifully and we all found ourselves going up multiple times for our favourite side dishes. Ultimately the service was a little disappointing, we found ourselves waiting for almost 10 minutes on refills (that didn't even require cooking) and the night we went it wasn't particularly busy at all. However, the novelty of cooking your own food at your table is always enjoyable and, despite the language barrier, the manager was very friendly and did his best to accommodate us.

We will definitely be back again and would recommend to anyone looking for something very different but undeniably delicious.

We tried the $25 all you can eat korean bbq. Overall it is very nice. You get a full set of korean side dishes, salad, unlimited refill of chicken, beef and pork samgyeopsal. The meat is nicely marinated and tastes very good. The service is also nice, the waitress very attentive and responsive..

Great bargain. Husband and I walked in without booking. The dining room was 80% full. Waitresses were attentive and attended to us straightaway. We were seated. Customer service was excellent. $25per person all you can eat. Marinated beef, pork and thinly sliced pork belly.....plenty for two diners. We chose the deep fried flounder (other choice on the menu was dumpling). Both of us loved it, especially the dipping sauce. We could help ourselves with a few selection of condiments/ side dishes, Kim chi, pickled turnip, shredded seaweed, pickled onions, shredded fish strips. Overall, the experience was excellent. Highly recommended.

Korean bbq eat as much as you want. You can choose from beef chicken pork. Grill it on the table. Variety wise is limited so you will get sick off it after a while. But overall it was a good experience and the marinade was nice

The restaurant itself is nice, However service isnt to great and the variety of side dishes is quite poor. The staff need to be more approachable aswell.

Not your typical korean restaurant. But it is somewhere there. The grilled food was good and the rest of the food was okay. But the side dishes was something that I wanted to try although it didn't look decent. The ambiance of the place was so-so.

Got takeaways from there today. Did not enjoy at all. Cost &18.50. Ordered spicy squid. Got 6 small pieces of squid, the rest was vegies and rice. Would have cost $2 to make. I was still hungry and I am a very small eater. Don't recommend at all!!!!

This place was brilliant and deffo value for money. You can take your own drink and they charge you $5 but hey that's nothing. Eat as6much as you can and we did. Will prob go back tomorrow.

Dam. For 25 hukaduk all you can eat bbq it's pretty gawd dam impressive.. more impressive than a mime pulling a rope anyway.. if your mental and like it oriental then it a must. Service is bog standard and scratching the average mark but I ate all I could for the price quoted. I left a happy camper and I'll be back to stuff my gullet again. Sprognic

Staffs were friendly and accomodating. We had a
lot of food shared by our family and friends. They provided us the request we had for our orders and they have a huge space for diners.

This asian/ korean fusion restaurant is a must go for those foodie who loves a wide array of shabu shabu buffet: beef, pork, chicken. Unlimited serving for only 25 per person which is kinda affordable for groups. I love the way that I am cooking my own food and with side dishes like kimchi, etc. Yum!

Came with about 10 friends , pretty much like the other reviews , service was slow and the waiters had an attitude.

Ordered a beef bone soup and it arrived and it literally tasted like water , drank one spoonful and was not interested in the water soup. Found out later that the dish does not come with salt or pepper and they forgot to bring me the extra plate of salt and pepper to add into the soup myself.

After complaining to the manager she decided that I could go for the buffet service instead and she let me have the beef soup for free. I added some salt to the soup just to see what it would be like and it basically tastes like salty water 0/10 would not order it again . Friend beside me ordered spicy beef soup and it was delicious.
This place was great. We were looking for somewhere that catered for vegan and vegetarian diets during our stay in Rotorua. I had bibimbap minus the egg and my boyfriend had the vegetarian fried rice which they added egg to, to make egg fried rice. We both really enjoyed our meals and definitely n Italy recommend this to anyone looking for Asian vegetarian and vegan food in Rotorua. They also had a range of free sides and condiments that you could help yourself to.

Think twice about dining here. The food is average, overpriced and took quite a long time to arrive at the table (30-70mins) despite the reassurances of the waiter. Restaurant is heavily understaffed and service in and out of the kitchen is slow.

Only dine here if you are eating alone, have heaps of spare time and if you're not fussy with your food.

Slow service, over priced meals if you compare the amount or quality of the food. Meals were ok but far from impressive. Would rather try Burger Fuel or even McDonald's next time. This is definitely the last time we would visit.

Worst dining experience I have ever had. Orders were messed up which led to waiting an hour and a half for some meals, then the wrong meals were served and they were disgusting anyway. Were told this was because they were busy but we were the only ones in a restaurant that can seat 100. On top of this the toilets were disgustingly dirty and they were rude when we said we weren't happy.
