Review Shadehouse Cafe - Rotorua

Quality cafe food in a nice setting - you can sit inside, on the deck, or outside. Vegetarian options available (but lacking in vegan options).

Had a delicious small bacon and mushroom quiche. In fact i returned another day (while back visiting Rotorua) for another! Tables and chairs etc on deck looking a bit tired but it's nonetheless a nice place to meet a friend for coffee and some tasty food

mushroom stack really good somewhat lacking in iced coffee but eh definitely try to sit on the porch

Having morning tea here with my sister amazing fruit cake and the size is huge will keep me going that is for sure. Only reason I have given 4 star is because the coffee is not to my liking as I prefer a stronger and smooth chocolate finish to my coffee. But for those who do not drink strong coffee it is well made. I would say the pricing I is normal for cafe with generous sizing - $$.

Great place for brunch, visited this cafe around 11 am and it was nice and less crowded compared to most cafe in Rotorua central. Food and coffee were great ( pancakes were a bit dry tho )👍🏻

Good service, ordered the pork belly sandwich which came with fries. Had been recommended this. It was very disappointing once it arrived. It was not a sandwich but the size of a small slider. 90% of the plate was chips, about a tablespoon of salad and then this sandwich the size of a slider. It was full with lettuce, tomato and a bare thin 1/2 slice of pork with a tiny piece of crackling. Thought for the price was a RIP off. If you order a sandwich you expect a sandwich. Not a slider. Honestly their sandwich wouldnt have been bigger than a scone. Disappointing.

On Feb 1st, we had a (very) belated breakfast at the Shadehouse Cafe. Hubby’s Big Breakfast cost $20 and he thought the battered onion rings were a nice touch. My Eggs Benedict cost $17 and was a little bland but nice enough. <br/><br/>Service staff were brisk but efficient.<br/><br/>The Shadehouse does pretty good coffee - we both had iced mochas as it was muggy and hot but we’ve sampled their other coffees before. And they sell typical milkshakes in tall takeaway cups! In fact, the only drinks issue we ever had was confusion over the sizes of orange juice because they sell small bottles as well as glasses.<br/><br/>We sat outside on the deck, overlooking the Palmers Garden Centre plants. There isn’t a lot of seating available, so we were lucky that the cafe wasn’t busy. The spacing between tables is good though, plenty of room to stretch out and a little privacy so that you don’t feel like you’re sharing in other people’s conversations.

Great Coffee, Great Food and Great Service.<br/>I have finally found a café that everytime I visit, the cappuccino and food is always at high standards. A great place to sit and relax in the beautiful surroundings.<br/>The best café in Rotorua.

It is a lovely setting here and the food is always delicious. The best part of buying plants is visiting the cafe. Yesterday I had a scone, nice, fluffy and light and some great ginger crunch with a very nice cappuccino.

I am a regular at the Shade House Cafe and Love it!! I go there because I love the peaceful surroundings and the food, especially the date scones and the date and walnut loaf which are AMAZING! The staff are very friendly. I have been to loads of other cafes in town but keep going back to the shade house as its definately my favourite !!

We go to the shadehouse often. It is one of our favourite spots to lunch. Has always been great food without exception (and yummy coffees!) and friendly staff. I love the semi garden, but sheltered setting too.

Asked when an apricot cake was made advised made day before however upon tasting the said cak icing was stale . Consimer took it back to complain not a word said no apology money slammed back in consumers palm. This consumer is an experienced chef and tutor as wel as well travelled.

First-time experience was brunch today. We were greeted by a totally professional and very friendly young lady. Great selection of food - all made on site. Very reasonable prices that were clearly-displayed. Staff were willing to vary menu ingredients to order. Excellent food and good-sized servings. Coffee was exactly as ordered and was excellent. We totally recommend this cafe unreservedly.

I had visitors over Xmas who ordered pancakes . These were thick and very doughy. The consumer told the staff that they were not nice. Staff told him that they had just tried one and it was fine. He continued to say he was the consumer and believe me they were not nice. He returned to his table outside then the chef came out and said they had all sampled them and they were just fine. Wellingtonians have never ever experienced where the chef and staff argued with the customer about the quality of their food. Bad Bad experience will never return here

I visit the Shade House Cafe frequently and have always found the food to be wonderful and the service just the same.<br/>It is set amongst the palmers garden centre which makes visiting very a special part of my day.<br/>The staff are polite, interesting, always helpful and do a very good job. This is one busy cafe.<br/><br/>I would like to tell everyone to visit but unfortunately if you do we may not get in the door next time.<br/><br/>visit carolyn and her team and get to know them as we have and take time to chat.

I have just had lunch at this cafe &amp; I would certainly not return in a hurry. The service is terrible, I had to ask for my coffee after everyone else at the table had finished theirs. Ordered pinini with fries, was assured my fries would be coming. After waiting 10 minutes &amp; asking again received undercooked horrible fries. No offer of refunding money when it was obvious we had finished our lunch when the fries arrived. Might have been busy but a 40 minute wait for lunch is pathetic.

Very friendly, helpful staff and delicious food and coffees. I always find the service to be excellent and the Shadehouse has now become our regular cafe. There is always a great variety of food and the coffees are brilliant. The kids love playing on the playground and my dog loves the luxury of coming with us. <br/>Overall the Shadehouse is well situated to the redwood forest and is in a gorgeous setting with a stream full of gold fish (worth a mention because my kiddies love looking at the fish) <br/>Couldn't rate the Shadehouse any higher!

Very rude staff on Saturday. Ordered a moccacino and a flat white and two Croissants ( toasted) . When we said we wanted a moccacino the lady immediately asked us <br/>" Do you want Chocolate with that" Warning bells rang but having been there before we just said chocolate please. She was very young, so let's give her a chance. Paid $23.00 and went to sit in the outdoor area. <br/>When our drinks arrived mine ( a flat white) was fine but my friends Moccacino had no chocolate sprinkle and looked for all the world the same as mine except the fancy fern pattern on the top was not there. Taste test confirmed it was not a moccacino. Goodness knows what it was. Spoke to the lady who appeared to be in charge and asked if she could please get us a moccacino. Went back and sat down. Drink arrived it was the same drink we had returned ( Lipstick still on the cup) but had sprinkled chocolate on top. It was still not a moccacino !!! It ended up with the senior girl telling us she did not know what our problem was - no refund offered. Moccacino not consumed. We left - we will not go back. I do not recommend this cafe to anyone.
