Review Matai Restaurant - Rotorua

Wow, this place just really deserves much more love and attention to be honest. If you’re travelling to Rotorua, Matai is one of the most must-try-out fine dining restaurants in the area. Fantastic mind blowing taste and very fancy, well displayed dishes for your social media posts. It’s the feeling when the dishes look too good and you don’t want to eat it anytime soon, since your eyes wish to enjoy the art of food displaying on those plates for a little longer. They accomplished both of the visual and flavour expectations from the customers and there’s absolutely no regret of dining here. Many thanks to the head chef since I could see his passion reflects through the way he cooked and presented the food. The customer service quality in here is also on top and I want to say thanks a lot to the staff who welcomed us that night too, he was so nice and polite, so friendly and professional to us. I would love to visit Matai again whenever I have a chance to travel to Rotorua, because that’s just how much I love and cherish this place. Such a hidden gem that needed to be found !

Wow ! Rotorua's best kept secret ! I just cannot rave enough about the food that chef Ryan and his team made for us . Presentation and flavors are just out of this world ! You must try this restaurant! Best food I think I've ever eaten ! I will be visiting this restaurant every chance I get .

It was the most delicious meal and I say one of the best we have ever had in NZ and Australia. I had Ryan’s dukkah crusted lamb blackstrap with an adventure on the plate. I will have it again and again. I’m so impressed by the creativity of the meals. Wonderful flavours and textures. Service was excellent too. I highly recommend Matai.

Food: outstanding and reasonably priced. Service: professional, personable and timely. It was inspiring to meet Ryan who was brilliant at his job and clearly enjoyed his work. He was very personable and took the time to go the extra mile with us. Eggs Benedict and Lemon and blueberry pancakes were outstanding. I hope that the boarders opening will bring the tourism back to Rotorua, and the Matai can get the attention it deserves. Would definitely recommend, and will be returning myself when I’m back in Rotorua.

Sevice - A+++ Ambience - A+++ Food - A+++++ By far the best dining experience I've had to date and was able to treat my wife to an amazing dining experience for our anniversary. If you haven't tried Matai, you need to! It may change your perception of fine dining forever. The waitstaff are very personable and attentive, the restaurant had such a relaxing vibe and the quality of food was rediculously good. Everything was so balanced. The chef took simple ingredients and combined them in a way that made it VERY easy to finish everything on the plate. Definitely need to try if you haven't yet!

Had a memorable meal at Matai restaurant last night. Delicious flavour combinations, immaculate presentation and service. Not sure we would describe the food as ' unadorned ' the attention to colour and taste made for a truly fine dining experience. Amazing variety of fresh perfectly cooked vegetables. Certainly not cheap but would be a great place to celebrate a special occasion, and given the menu changes frequently it would be tempting to come back soon. Only suggestion would be to add a desert wine by the glass to compliment the creme caramel
