Review Northern Union - Silverdale

Nina NZ
The steak is delicious. My son likes it very much. The environment is very good. The staff are very enthusiastic. Try other dishes next time.
Tim Butler-Jones
Northern Union is about as close as you can get to a British pub in that, unlike most NZ pubs that only cater to one demographic, The Northern Union has people from all walks of society, from tradies, professionals, families and pensioners. It achieves this, (I feel) by having the best service and by bending over backwards to be accomodating to their customers.
Theo Simeonidis
A great spot to come for a beer or meal, or to watch the footy, or all of the above. Glenn is a great host, and the Northern Union is a great local venue.
Shannon Gill
Great food, lovely service, atmosphere was great though was loud inside outside is beautiful though.

Such a lovely place. The food was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. My Scotch fillet was perfectly cooked. Loved the charcoal flavour. Highly recommended.
Mark Pitts
Great menu, great food, great service, and plenty of beers on tap! We had lunch here with friends and enjoyed our time together. Their menu has plenty of choices, even for vegetarians or vegans. (Many things on the menu can be made vegetarian or vegan on request) Gluten free options are also available, and prices are reasonable

Amazing place for a table of 13 all good got served at same time. Food was top notch! Staff were very friendly and accommodating. They were very pleasant when the place got busy for rugby - defo be back! Well done guys!

His hamburger (the Union Burger) was HUGE he couldn't finish it. I had the brisket tacos. When they arrived they looked a bit small but I can tell you 3 of them were more than plenty. The flavours were subtle and delightful. Cheers guys for a great evening.

One of the best family orientated restaurants in Silverdale. Good Food, Awesome Vibe, Friendly Owners/Manager, Well Priced ----> 10+ for Sure! P.S - I would still like to try the "Deconstructed Long Island Iced Tea" on the cocktail menu. The LAMB SHANK is a winner everytime.
Nirvana Knill
Nice vibe and friendly service. We did have to wait a while for our food. We ordered the Slow Roast Lamb Shank ($30) and the Grilled Haloumi burger ($23.50). Big portion of lamb but I wish they provided more vegetables. The burger was nice but the bun to filling ratio was off. Definitely not worth $23.50. The fries were nice though. The meal was on the pricier side, but I believe that’s what you pay for pub food these days.
Damian Dejong
Nice setting and pleasant staff. Food was tasty and well presented.
Steve Smith
The staff were so helpful and the food was really good. We arrived just as a veryvery large group was being seated and our order was pushed through ahead of theirs so we didn't have a big wait.

I recently had my 40th party here and the staff went over and above to ensure we all had a great time! The food was outstanding and the attention to detail was fab! They even decorated the area for me so it was one less thing I had to do! A massive thanks to the wonderful staff! We also had our Christmas work do here last night and even with a completely full house, the staff were absolutely awesome and the guys enjoyed all of the food!! So overall great atmosphere, awesome staff and delicious food!

Today was the second visit to Northern Union OMG the food is delicious, generous portions fresh and yummy. Succulent salt and pepper squid and slow cooked brisket nachos with the sauces on the side - my kind of food. I totally recommend you try eating here.

Thanks for the birthday lunch it was fantastic. Kitchen staff looked like they enjoy their jobs. Great place - Thanks :-)

Great food and fun atmosphere, ourvtable booked was originally by the door and the cold was going through us every time the door opened , we was moved to another table. I had the steak special and fully enjoyed it. A great customer service is they have a courtesy bus and they picked us up and took us home . Highly recommend.

We have been to Northern Union many times since moving to Millwater. Last night the standard of food dropped. Fish n chips - the batter on fish was almost brown in color. Caesar salad - I told waitress veges very hard not tender, could be using too much outer part of vege
Claire Boreham-Taylor
Amazing staff, great food. We had my husbands 30th there tonight with about 20 adults and a bunch of kids running around. Was an awesome night, highly recommend this place, the staff made everything so easy for us.
Natalie Fouquet
Nice food love the Thai salad , been there twice 1st time was Mother's Day with no prior booking , it was so packed but they found us a spot outside, as it was soo busy in there food took over an hour but when it arrived it was delicious, while waiting all of us were quite cold so they brought us blankets and the heater over to us which was great

Thought service was pretty good and staff friendly. Had a positive atmosphere. We enjoyed our meal of pizzas and hot chips. Only negative was the music was too loud which made it hard to talk.
Teresa Kershaw
We pop in here occasionally with the kids, always a great time chicken wings and pizzas are fantastic and good value for money! The courtesy bus is also a great idea so we can all have A few drinks and relax and not have to worry about driving. Absolutely would recommend NU.

I had my 18th at the Northern Union and I couldn't have imagined it to be any better!! The service, food and drinks were incredible. The staff so lovely and such a stunning set up!! Thank you so much for making it a night to remember :)

A good meal and half price desserts. There were 6 of us, the service was good but the meals were very slow coming. The wait staff were very apologetic.
Lauren Van Rensburg
Excellent food, great presentation and such friendly staff. We'll be back for sure!!
Robert Jamieson
Beer was cold, service was quick and efficient and the food was excellent and perfectly to order. And not to expenceve either in comparison with the superb quality. Never had a bad meal or experience here.
Leslee Anderson
Haven’t been here for a year after a bad experience so thought we would try again as we are locals, well.... what a mistake. This visit was by far worse than the last. Service very very slow and staff attitude as bad. Meals came eventually, 2 hours after order. We were never offered more drinks. This was an overall disgusting experience.

I ordered a few things to get for take away,
Fried chicken and a margarita pizza.
I love the fried chicken here, the house bbq sauce is super yummy and the chicken tastes fresh. The margarita pizza was so good, it was very large and I was having the leftover the next day.
Only problem was when I picked it up it wasnt very warm. This isnt a huge problem tho, heated it up a bit when I got home.

Will get some takeaways here again.
The outdoor area smells of urine and the staff clearly have no interest to be there. The barman was the more professional out of all. We’d suggest owner to close off kitchen area if staff socialising is unavoidable, as we can hear every conversation the wait staff had with the kitchen staff and it’s not pleasant.

In terms of the food, we ordered the wings and beef burger (both recommended items on the menu), the beef patty was burnt and the chicken was on the dry side. We did however liked the blue cheese sauce that was served with the wings.

Will not be returning.

Went here for an early lunch via first table, so the place was pretty empty. The owner is very professional and helpful. The food was fresh and well cooked, did not walk away feeling very thirsty or with a tummy ache unlike most chinese restaurants. The BBQ pork ribs are falling off the bone, fries are ok (fairly certain they were cooked in canola oil, not lard or duck fat so weren't too flavourful,) and family members who ordered the fish & chips and seafood chowder were very happy. Would come back.

The Northern Union used to be our favourite family restaurant, unfortunately this is no longer the case. Upon arrival we saw that there was a family Bingo night in the usual dining area... not a problem (we noticed some friends who were there for the Bingo night and we said a quick hello to them). No waiting staff were immediately apparent (most likely serving the Bingo crowd) We approached the bar to request a table to be greeted by a bar maid who was less than welcoming whom immediately asked us if we had a reservation…... all good except the Bingo crowd only occupied a third of the available seating so it was obvious that seating wasn't going to be a problem, she says to us if we want a table we will need to sit outside (?), we are lead to a table that hadn't been cleared yet (still no problem, Bingo going on, they havent had the chance yet) there was a quick scurry around to clear the table and our 4 menus are dumped on the table and we were told by said bar maid that she had to get back to the bar, she didn't say our waitress will be on the way or we had to order at the bar...…. we waited...…. no one shows (oh well its Bingo night), I'll order at the bar..... While ordering drinks I see one waitress (by this time I've identified two front of house staff taking and delivering orders and one calling the Bingo) While I am ordering our drinks I notice a very disinterested waitress chatting to one of the young men in the kitchen at the servery, the other waiter is helping serve drinks behind the bar..... two bar tenders at a kids Bingo night one waitress..... I take said drinks back to table and.... we wait...... no waitress...... that's OK, my wife and kids cant make up their minds what they want to eat, (I don't know how, not a lot to choose from, compared to what it used to be)...…. they eventually decide...…. no available waiting staff...… I go back up to the bar to order food..... 2 bar staff but there are 3 people lined up at the bar (I am the forth in line) when I finally get to the bar to place my order..... I look up and the waitress who was chatting to the chef(?) is at our table wanting to take our food order..... I wave and she realises I am ordering at the bar, wife and kids getting cold in the breeze and they ask to be seated at a table indoors, food comes out reasonably soon after ordering, we enjoy the meals no complaints with taste or quality (its a pub not fine dining)...…… we go to pay and realise we didn't get the kids drink (that comes with kids meal)...… we ask if we can take the drink away.... oh sorry we don't have take away cups... we pay the bill and leave...…. never to return againOne might say our experience wasn't that bad.... considering that we don't go out for dinner that often, you could be mistaken to feel a bit special.... the combination of unfriendly staff, inattentive staff, poor organisation, limited menu options and a deteriorating atmosphere makes this a tradies bar good for a few pints after work...… don't go here if you want to have a family dinner.....
Joel Rewi
Had the chicken and ribs platter for 2 !! sorry its was horrible the "house bbq sauce" on the ribs tasted like tomato paste. And jerk chicken was tasteless. One tiny peice of corn cob. (Not sure how you share that) $55 wont be back .

Need to update the menu on here was looking forward to a meal that I had picked out but once there was looking at a different menu at a different price still good food tho
Excellent food quality , fair prices , great environment to relax & enjoy yourself. The staff were very helpful & polite. I would definitely be going here again.

this pub used to be a favourite,
but recently the service and food has gone down hill.
The waiters seem to be more worried about chatting to the friends than serving customers

Chicken parmigiana deep fried breadcrumb dry no seasoning cheap bit of melted cheese two tinned mushrooms on top, bland no seasoning....Moroccan lamb shank, packet gravy, no seasoning except for pepper I added , no pomegranate jus or saffron in potatoes as advertised, twice cooked potatoes with chicken just dreadful chips, really awful food, gastro pub - not funny, ripped off

BTW beer Large glass, asked what is large glass, pint, no way in heaven is it 568ml

Went for dinner, pre-booked table and stated we would be needing a highchair. Table was right in the path for patrons coming and going so felt like we had to keep moving highchair as couldn’t be placed on other side of table. Next time will specify a corner table out of the way. Waitress/service was great, very attentive. Ordered 2 meals, one was the steak and stout pie, the other was a chicken parmigiana and had five spice salt and pepper squid as a side.

The steak and stout pie was great, can’t fault it. Pastry was cooked perfectly, meal was hot when it came out.

Chicken parmigiana was not so great. Chicken was barely warm and was smothered in what appeared to be just a tin of tomatoes with barely any flavour. It was placed on top of over cooked chips, the salad that came with it was delicious though!

Salt and pepper squid was good.

All up cost was about $70 - that included 1 house wine (150ml) and a lemon, lime and bitters.

Would go again, but possibly not for dinner, maybe just a casual dine for pub grub.

Went to Northern Union for lunch today. Waitress obviously didn't want to be there. Eventually took our drinks order. Expensive wine and $33.00 for a jug of Steinlarger was ridiculous. The beer was served in a badly chipped jug and when requested by our table to take it away and get a new jug the waitress didn't really know what to do. Eventually she did replace it. Not sure if the bar staff simply poured the contents of the chipped jug into a new jug. I do have my suspicions as it was returned to our table pretty smartly. The Pulled Brisket Nachos were dreadful. A tin full of corn chips with inadequate meat, tasteless cheese, a couple of jalapeño slices, bland guacamole, watery salsa and sour cream served in tiny bowls (thimbles). Two of our party had the nachos. Soft Tacos were okay and 2 of the guys had the burger and fries. Although a bit cold they were edible. The 2 children with us had typical Kids Meals and were happy enough. In conclusion a very overpriced, disappointing late lunch. We won't be back anytime soon.

it was an good meal. We ordered steak which was quite nice. we also ordered meat lover pizza and the pizza was absolutly delicious. The waiting time was long in busy hour but its the same thing for any pubs. over all i think the experience was pleasant.

On Sunday night my partner and I decided to visit the Northern Union for dinner. We went in and asked for a table for two, as it was very quiet we were told we could choose any table and that someone would be right with us. We chose a seat outside that was lovely and warm right under the heater and a waitress came with our menus. We decided what we were going to order and waited for the waitress to come back to take our order but she never did. We waited for over twenty minutes for her to come back and take our order but instead of doing so, she stood at the bar talking to the two other waitresses on duty. Not once did I see a single waitress go and help any patron, they just stood there watching tv and chatting. So after twenty minutes of hunger and frustration we left without ordering and went to a fast food joint across the road. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the food but I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We shared the buttermilk chicken nibbles to start with and found them a little bit on the dry side. The lamb shank however was tasty and tender. The pork burger was also a winner. Nice decor inside and plenty of seating outside. Extra parking can be found behind the building.

Came in for dinner last week for a catch up with a friend and can highly recommend this pub. It has a great atmosphere and the food was great. The staff member who served us (he seemed to be a manager as he was wearing a formal shirt; if I remember rightly his name was Josh) was exceptional. He helped pick out something that met my dietary requirements, made sure our drinks were topped up and we were well looked after throughout our visit; its nice to finally go somewhere with genuine and attentive service; especially with the price of eating out these days. As someone who has worked in hospitality for a long time I appreciate being catered for when I go out. We will definitely be coming back here on our next catch up!

Came here last night (Monday night). Wasnt too busy but our food took about 30 - 45 mins to come. No apology from the very sour looking waitress. Food was cold so I assume it had been sitting there ready for a while before it was brought to our table. Took over an hour for the waitress to come back and clear our plates and ask if we wanted anything else. Then we went to pay and we hadto stand at the counter for a few mins waiting as no staff were in sight. We could of easily just walked out without anyone noticing which we obviously felt like doing. Nobody asked how our food or anything was so I didn't bother to complain as they obviously couldn't care less. Horrilble service, will avoid coming back which is a shame as I used to enjoy coming here.

Came for dinner as a couple.

The pub atmosphere and decor are really nice and inviting. It was quite busy for a Monday night.

We asked about the two for one deal and were given a separate menu to order from. We ordered two BLTs from the two for one menu, but were still charged for two meals when we left.

The BLTs were very nice, with ciabatta buns, crispy lettuce and the right amount of sauce. The chips were a bit dry and needed sauce.

The waitress seemed to finish her shift soon after we ordered and we were pretty much left without any service. We were not offered any water or sauce for our chips, nobody asked us how our meals were, offered us desert, more drinks or cleared our plates.

Because We liked the atmosphere and food we might come back for another try with the kids but would hope the service is better.

Our two BLTs, a beer and a cocktail came to $53.50.

Busy place, food is average and the service is non existent. It's a pub with no competition. Gets really noisy. They could do better. Will not recommend and I want go back.

I do not go to the effort of making reviews but ....this is BS - over priced housewine $10 and 15 per glass. Average food that is over priced - $20 cold burger with 8 chips also cold, Chicken wings came without the advertised blue cheese apparently they run out but unknown to waitress (shoulder shrug), cashier not interested (took $1 off total and asked what did I want her to say) - very disappointing as obviously no customer service training. Waitress friendly but inexperienced hence the shoulder shrugs. Definately will not be going back recommend you keep going to anyway else.

Food was amazing, service was spot on, atmosphere was upbeat and friendly, decor and design of the bar is awesome and I recommend for anyone for dinner or even a few drinks

Visited on a whim in June 2015 for a late afternoon snack and cold bevvy with my partner; bumped into a couple of friends who had randomly decided to visit there also (made for a nice surprise) and we had outdoor seating for the four of us. The wine menu is great and the drinks service was quick at the time, 5pm on a Saturday, but I will say not at all friendly, though it was efficient. Upon ordering some snack plates, all were turned out beautifully, but unfortunately the calamari whilst listed as a "specialty", was in fact very oily and the ratio's seemed off with the bread/dips plate with not enough spreads/dips for the loaf of freshly warmed bread. Cool vibe, great looking joint and liked the tunes.... clearly popular with the locals as it was certainly getting busier and busier that afternoon/early evening. I think we may visit again if were heading through...

I'm of two minds about Northern Union. On the one hand, I find that it's perfect for casual drinks and bar food but, on the other, I find the sit down menu quite lacking.

On our most recent visit, we ordered the chicken risotto and the chicken burger. The risotto was stodgy and the burger bun seemed kind of stale. The chicken was dry on both dishes. At least the chips were good?

Having said that, the pizzas and calamari we ordered on a previous visit were pretty good and I quite like the relaxed atmosphere Northern Union has. Their drinks specials are also quite decent. I think I'll stay away from the sit down menu and just stick to pizzas next time.
Family Eats
The Northern Union can be categorised as a Pub. However the menu caters for more than just bar snacks with Entrees, Mains, Pizza's and Grill offering a wide range of meals for the family dining out. The menu changes every 2-3 months so variety is also good.
The ambience inside is dark, yet social...with dining by candle light so littlies beware. Dining alfresco has a nice atmosphere with cafe blinds and multicoloured lanterns to light your table. A large screen projector plays on the wall of the building opposite the restaurant.
Service...a lot of little negative things pulled our experience down. The kids meal....which we ordered first with the garlic bread, came out last. Our theory, get the kids eating means a good dining experience for Mum and Dad.
Upon asking the waitress which is better - The steak sandwich or the Rump Steak the reply was "I wouldn't know..." . At least make something up?!
The Tomato sauce on the table...watered down and had a consistency of Tomato "cup-a-soup". Soggy chunky chips now ensued. When we pointed this out to the waitress, the bottle was replaced with another tables. Sorry "reserved" table next to us.
As we were finishing our meals we had a sense that we were no longer required as 2 staff approached us 3 times over the course of 10 minutes to "flip the table". The kids were still eating and they were trying to take their plates away.
Lastly, as I paid my $99 for 2 Beers, 2 lemonades, 2 Mains, 1 Kids meal, 1 Garlic bread... I was not asked how my experience was. The staff member that took payment also appeared to be a manager.
The Food. The "medium Rare" rump steak was cooked very well, yet slightly over cooked with it coming to the table Medium. The Red wine Jus was very nice. The kids nacho's was large and fed both of our scone grabbers to the brim. The chicken burger was the highlight with plenty of flavour.
Plenty of variety on the drinks menu, including 8-9 beers on tap.
Summary: All and all, the food and ambience is a good time with a kid friendly vibe. Plenty of families dining out can be found at the Northern Union. However, service is a large tick in our book and unfortunately on this night it didn't deliver.

We went for the first time on the steak special night and will probably go back again to try the pizza and curry specials. However, it’s a noisy place so it’s maybe best to go with a group of friends rather than as a couple – quiet and intimate it ain’t! Too much glass and hard services as is commonly found in most NZ pubs/bars. Maybe this is why so many of us (and not just Poms) complain that you can’t get the English pub experience in many places. Someone could make a killing if they got this right on the Hibiscus Coast.

Of course, there were the regulation two large TV screen above the bar, with the sound turned down and pumping out sport no one was interested in watching. There was also the drone of music that nobody could possibly hear over the general hubbub of chatter. Why do so many bars/pubs do this? Is it an obsession with trying to be all things to all people? Why not switch TV’s and sound systems off when the place is full of people out to enjoy a feed? Perhaps they’ve lost the remotes.

My house merlot was good. The wife’s request for a drier brand of cider resulted in her being offered a brand called Kilin (?) which tasted like a strange concoction of ginger beer and cider. Clearly, the bar staff haven’t been trained to know the range of drinks they are serving.

Was the steak special? Well, the $20 price was but the meal was a bit average. 300gms is a lot of meat. We would appreciate it if establishments didn’t assume everyone is happy to sacrifice taste over quantity. If they offered a smaller eye fillet at the same price, we think it would have a wider appeal. The chips (not fries thankfully) were tasty but they were soggy after a few minutes because they were served on top of the jus, with the steak on top of them. We would have preferred them separate.

Service was friendly and attentive but our waitress was confused by our request for mustard. She returned with a small bowl but wasn’t sure if it was English, French or Dijon.

We didn’t order desserts as we were too full up from the main but the usual array were on offer.

Would we go back? Yes, probably to give the pizza or curry night specials a go. Next time it will be with a bunch of friends so we can compete with the noise from everyone and everything else.
Mikayla Plaziuk
Been here previously and have enjoyed but must admit probably had the best service this time. The wait staff were attentive and didn't hesitate to assist. If you want a place with food you'll be happy with, good service atmosphere and music I would say northern Union is an easy choice.

Friendly staff and a great variety of food and beverage. A real all year round place due to a large deck. That was covered due to the rain when we went. Nice and cosy under the heaters though!

Wicked Gastro Pub! Exactly what Silverdale and the Coast needed! Food was 10, service 10, we were made to feel very welcome as soon as we stepped through the door. Their outdoor deck and courtyard was the perfect spot to spend our Friday night! DJ started and we ended up staying for a lot longer than expected!

Fantastic Pub, new local for us!

Popped in Thursday night dinner on my way back to Auckland City from up north.
I heard about this new place from work colleagues who recommended it as a fab place to grab a great steak and a beer.
Well I wasn't disappointed at all. The place was humming and I was served at my table very efficiently by a lovely waitress. (can't recall the name sorry) Music wasn't too loud but at a nice level for that dinner moment. Thanks Northern Union for a memorable evening. Will make it back in a couple weeks when up north again.

We've been to UN many times since it opened, for drinks and snacks and for dinner several times. Love the $20 steak night...one night some joker had 'booby trapped' our salt shaker resulting in me tipping about a tablespoon of salt onto my dinner. We spoke to management and they were lovely and provided me with a replacement meal within about 10 mins...awesome service. PS: love those new fat chips!

Just what Silverdale needed, lovely setting and atmosphere....HOWEVER, the food is what is letting this establishment down. Such a shame too. My chicken burger was quite a disappointment - inside the burger was a piece of over deep fried chicken which was on the point of disintegrating, some lettuce with way too much dressing, and nothing else. My partner had the ribs which he said were good. However they came with nothing else, just a plate of ribs, no small salad, no garnish. And for their prices, which are steep, we expected something better. We were going to order a carafe of house wine, only to discover the price was $43. For house wine? We settled on a house red and a beer, which came to around $20. Our meals were included in the early bird prices (eat before 6.30 and you get some of the mains for $18). We eat out often and unfortunately wont be dining here again any time soon. I hope the management listens to some of the comments on this site - the chef (s) are not cooking well. A friend of mine belonging to a local sports club dined there recently with a group and they also had a similar experience. Again, I believe this place could be fantastic....food needs drastic improving and prices need tweeking. On the up side the waiting staff (young girls) were very attentive and helpful.

We came here last Wednesday, it was an awful night outside but inside Northern Union it was warm, cosy and welcoming. Just what we needed. Staff were welcoming and we were seated quickly. After browsing the menu and having a bit of difficulty trying to decide which yummy thing to choose we went for the spiced cauliflower fritters first off followed by the sharing board at $49 for two which we thought was excellent value. The fritters were awesome and I would rush back many times for those tasty morsels with the delicious curried mayo. Sharing platter consisted of S & P squid which was succulent , yet crunchy and just the right size to pop in. My honey reckoned they were the best he's ever had. The sticky pork ribs were sweet and moreish. Crispy fish sliders great too but my absolute favourite were the crispy chicken wings, just the best flavour. We washed this all down with a bottle of Tatachilla from Aussie. We were too full for desert but we will be back. Well done team at Northern Union, we will recommend you now too all the neighbours.

Great Local just what the area lacked ...Popped in on Wednesday for a beer after work with some mates great atmosphere stayed for pizza which was great best Ive had for a while will make this our local for sure

Went to the Northern Union last night for the first time. For a Wednesday Night they were actually not that quiet, I thought. The girl managed to get us a table for our party of 4, which was great. They had early bird Mains for $18, which is a good idea on a midweek night. Our waitress informed us that the special only runs until 6:30pm, we got in at 6:20pm, so we quickly placed our order. I thought that was very thoughtful of her. We ordered 4 different mains and a side salad, which was huge by the way and we all picked on it. Steak Sandwich, Beef Burger, Salmon Risotto and Bangers and Mash. The Bangers and Mash were my favorite, the sausages tasted fresh and I found it good that they complimented the dish with vegetables: Carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. At least I didn't feel like a fatty after finishing the whole plate. The atmosphere was nice and warm despite the terrible weather outside. The 2 waitresses were very friendly and there when needed. I will def come back, Silverdale needed a place like this. Well done guys.

My husband and I recently visited this new edition to Silverdale and we were so pleased we walked through those doors! Firstly the staff were attentive and very friendly. For such a busy place we were so pleased to get a table. My husband had the Chicken Burger, which had plenty with accompanying fries, and I had the Chicken Breast which was cooked perfectly. For dessert we shared a sticky toffee pudding which was divine. Defiantly will be back and we will recommend to our friends. Well done Northern Union, the region has needed a pub like this for a long time.

Went for lunch with the family to try out what looked like a nice new bar at Silverdale. Big Big Mistake!!!! The food was over priced, poorly presented and tasted awful. We had the chicken breast, mushroom and chicken fettuccini ,roast of the day and a very overpriced steak all of which were over cooked and underwhelming. The steak was to come with shoestrings and seasonal vegetables. usually when using the word vegetables it does not mean broccoli. That is a vegetable, singular. We ordered a side of cauliflower cheese, some cauli placed in a ramekin, sauce over the top placed under a grill and delivered to the table split with a 1/4 inch of water in the bottom. Roast of the day was chewy and very bland. Fettuccini was dry and the chicken breast had been cut to see if it was cooked!!!! It must have been the first thing that they put on to cook as it was so dry. When my husband went to pay he advised the manager that we had spoken to the waitress and then gave him our feed back to which he replied that will be $129.00 thanks. We would not recommend this place to any one unless you don't mind bad food, poor service and overpaying. Shame that they are not interested in listening to feed back as this could have been a great spot for lunch. First time we have ever thought that KFC IS SUCH A GREAT GOURMET OPTION AND JUST ACROSS THE ROAD!!!1

The beer was served in warm glasses which must have been washed with too much detergent because it went flat rapidly. To their credit when I complained they poured another glass which was exactly the same. Flat. A bit disappointed at paying for a beer that was flat with no offer of a resolution or even credit for the drink. We decided not to stay for a meal because the servings looked really small and way over priced. Most disappointing was the fact that the bar manager watched the whole process and appeared not to be concerned that there was a problem.

Rainy Sunday lunch ! What a fab place to be !! Friendly attentive staff and an excellent buzzy atmosphere . We were a fairly large table and the food was good but a little hit and miss . The burgers needed alot more love and filling for the price ( sorry but pattie , shredded lettuce and one piece of tomato doesn't cut it ) . The Beetroot salad was more like a side and had way too much oil , but my steak was perfect and also the sides . Pizza breads and main pizza was a hit and kids meals great . Enjoyed our lunch and will be back but hopefully a bit of tweeking with some of the menu ... It will be a winner . ( lovely touch from the owner to introduce himself too )

My husband called in the Northern Union for a drink after work on Friday night and brought home fish, chips & mushy peas for our dinner.
They were terrible, mushy peas were far too sweet, chips were thin & greasy, fish was OK but batter was soggy. They were wrapped in foil, fish & chips should be wrapped in paper!!, most of them went into the bin.
Today I received the Visa bill and I cannot believe he was charged $62.50 - he also had one drink included in this charge. We normally pay under $20 from our local, for fish & chips. Feel like we have been robbed !

Had dinner on Saturday at the pub which is trendy and busy. Unfortunately the food was pricey for what you got. Our party was shocked that the bangers and mash was served with brussel sprouts, the pie of the day was an open pie nothing more than a sausage stew for $23.50 served with mash and brussel sprouts and the hamburger was way overpriced, had a good laugh at the amount of shoestring chips that came with it, I guess the pub is on a shoestring budget. On a positive note the sausages were good and staff were friendly.

Had dinner at The Northern Union tonight and I think they have found a niche. For a pub that has only been open a few days and tonight their busiest yet the service and time of food delivery was great. Fish and chips did the job and my main of bangers and mash was very tasty, just needed a bit more gravy. The host was very friendly and talked to every table that he could. Will be even better once they get into their routine.
