Review Ground Control Cafe - Silverdale

Visiting this cafe was 100% out of convenience rather than planned, but what a treat it turned out to be. The decor is lovely, the service was fine. I gave 4 out of five for service as we weren't ready to order on the first visit to our table, and only a couple of minutes later we were but no one came over, so I went to order at the counter. No biggie. The food and coffee were delish and I mean 100% delish. They were visually pleasing, too. Pity I didn't take a photo. Gluten-free is becoming the norm now, but I haven't had such a good tasting gluten-free bagel in a long time. I'm not sure I would tell the difference between a wheat and this gluten-free one. All in all, I really recommend this place.

Nice place, good layout with easy access for all. Slim pickings from the food cabinet, but that was at 2:30pm so no doubt speaks for itself. Service was quick, shame about the personality!

Loved the food and service at Ground Control Cafe. We dined there for lunch today. My husband had the big breakfast and I had the fried chicken and waffles. Coffee was delightful! Definitely a place worth checking out. 😊

Great new cafe, love the concept and their principles, which are reflected throughout. Great food options too, all tied into the same theme. Good coffee, and great outlook. Place was busy but service was quick. The only reason it's 4 and not 5 stars, is one service woman was rather incompetent, ordering didn't get/hear one of the four dishes right, and then tried to serve us someone else's order. Small blight on an otherwise great experience. Will be back again for sure.

Lovely atmosphere and staff. We went here for lunch and got two eggs benedicts, hot chocolate and a smoothie. The hollandaise sauce tastes amazing and I was very impressed with the hash brown - the eggs and bacon were also done to perfection. And the presentation was very pretty. Nice place for a lunch date!

A great place to meet with friendly efficient service. Food is delicious.. and I really appreciate being able to order a half size eggs bene.. perfect.. with salmon. I tried the mushrooms my mother (and sister) had ordered as well.. and I may have those next time as they were so good. But then again the eggs bene on crispy potato rosti was the best! Parking was easy too .. so all round Ground Control is a great café destination and I can’t wait to go back..

Absolutely amazing to have found this cafe, its eco-friendly atmosphere is the winning point - love the board that comits the sustainable actions the cafe strives to achieve! The food is beautiful and simple - but to the point that it's elegant. Their kale chips is a MUST. I highly recommend and I'll definitely be back

easily the best experience I’ve had for ordering allergy-friendly food, the weekend staff were so great!! Felafel was to die for & burger was apparently 11/10 (up there with the best flavours)

Had a good brunch. I like that they have adventurous option like Chicken Waffles... I'm bored with everyone else's menus looking the same. Also appreciated that they have a no caffeine hot drinks like Tumeric late and even rooibos.

Really nice spot, ordered the eggs Benedict, was a bit small but tasty. The space is also a little chilly, there are heaters, just not turned on. But a nice spot

I adore this place. Incredible coffee, lovely team and such a cute place to spend time. Dog friendly too! You can bring them inside! What a treat.

Great little cafe on the coast. They staff were welcoming even when we turned up early. Tables were clean and parking ample. Coffee was served hot and fast which is great for a Saturday morning. Food was decent and worth what we paid. This is a great addition to the coast.

Had a bottomless filter coffee for just $7. Definitely worth it. I also tried their eggs benedict with hash brown and hollandaise sauce. It was filling and delicious. The location is also nice with indoor and outdoor seatings. The staff are accommodating and friendly. You can enjoy and relax here after you visit the Auckland Adventure Park, which is a few minutes walk away.

Just had a latte but it was perfect. Nice spot on the couch in the sun. Cabinet food looked fresh and tasty. Free wifi.

Really great cafe. Super nice and helpful staff as well! One of the only places around that has filter coffee on and ready to go! Good food if you’re looking for a feed. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a new spot to check out. Heaps of flight coffee beans for retails as well.

The food is absolutely divine! Good service and amazing coffee! Very lively cafe with all free range ingredients and well priced. Definitely going back.

5 stars We had a most pleasant Lunch at Ground Control I appreciated the fact it can cater for my low dairy and non gluten dietary needs. The Trifle mushrooms was delicious i tried to spoon the last drip of that sauce. The Soya flat white was very nice. Looking forward to our next visit. Staff were attentive and the premises was clean.<br/>

We have been here twice now for Sunday brunch.  Both times the food and service was great.  Staff very friendly.  Parking plentiful and easy.

Great new cafe on East Coast Rd. We had the Chicken Waffles and Eggs Benedict. Loved the citrus hollandaise on the Eggs Bene, perfectly cooked eggs and Rosti. Hubby enjoyed to Chicken Waffles, only feedback would be he felt the sauce needed more sweetness, the menu said Chipotle Honey glaze, but he felt it wasnt quite sweet enough. He still said he would have again though. We will definitely be back as loads more to try on the menu. Staff are really friendly and attentive. They have some yummy looking cabinet food too. I hope this place does really well.

Loved my meal at ground control! I had the avocado bruschetta and it was such a nice twist on a standard avo smash. Really friendly service and my food was amazing. Will definitely be back

Coffees arrived quickly and were great value and high quality. Food arrived quickly aswell and was one of the best plates of food ive ever had. Will 100% be returning here.

I have been there twice , both weekend days. I appreciate it's a relatively new business however there are a few things that are an issue: 1) 20 min wait for coffee, 2) Wait staff taking items to wrong tables on multiple occasions, 3) Quality of scones very poor 4) Menus are placed standing up on tables between S & P shakers, wind blows them over, wait staff simply place them back, only to be blown over again

After seeing a positive review online 3 others and I decided to try ground control for ourselves. Unfortunately despite lots of promise, there are definetly teething issues with this new cafe! First off, it was Sunday midmorning (not overly busy) and we were told when ordering that the wait time for food would be about 45minutes (we continued on as keen to support local) then when our food did arrive the burgers were completely raw in the middle, the staff (altho appearing very overwhelmed/stressed) were kind and agreed to recook these however, another 35 minute wait. Our table did appreciate the complimentary coffees and these were delicious especially the white hot chocolate. Overall the place has the potential to be amazing - however more staff/experience may help and make weekend services go smoother.

The food was absolutely amazing— I’ve never seen fried chicken & waffles in NZ & it was done so well. They use free range ingredients but it was very well priced. Short wait time & friendly service. Coffee was YUM + I tried the white hot chocolate... wow!!!
