We got the chicken chow mein, combination fried rice and BBQ pork with honey sauce. All the meals were excellent and served quickly. Will definitely go back here next time we are in the area.

Satisfied carvings for rice and anything Asian. Part of our stopover towards north! Ordered bbq pork fried rice and spicy beef hor fun. The bbq pork fried rice actually taste not bad just that the picture doesn’t do any justice to the taste. Spicy beef hor fun, it’s a thinner and narrow rice noodle used. Taste wise ok, beef is fine too. The rice noodle may be over cooked a little. Restaurant environment Looking a little tired, dated decor. Ventilation not at its best as the earlier table order hot plate stuff and I can smell myself like one. Service is good and friendly!

Great stuff and great staff, stopped by at lunch time for the 1st time, had one of my best takeaway food ever, stir fry vegetables highly recommended! Their deep fry’s are tasty and not oily too! Good value, top food.

Oh my gosh! Their set menu is definitely the way to go especially when you can't decide! You get a starter, entree, mains, desserts and tea or coffee for $23-26pp for two depending on menu option - group of locals came in before we left and ordered a set menu straight away and were hungrily awaiting so it just be a popular choice. We got the set menu 2 and it was extremely delicious and generous portions! Must be the cheapest option for dinner in Taihape apart from the fast food options. Was a little bit of a wait but we understand they were busy and it was a long weekend but food and service definitely made the wait worth it!

What a lovely visit to a hidden gem in Taihape. Passing through to Hamilton we stopped in for a sit down Sunday dinner tonight as nothing else was opened but maccas. Surprisingly they had steak, chips, egg and steamed vege for a whopper good price and huge portions. It was fast, cooked honestly no frills just a delicious meal and a coke. It's not fancy but I loved how not pretentious they were. Great service and food. All the locals clearly know this place well because many dined in, first name basis is always a good sign to see. Thank you for a lovely meal. Don't be fooled by appearances, it's the honest places like this that make me love dining out with the hubby.

We just stopped off at the Countryman Restaurant on our way back from a long weekend up the mountain. No only was the food de-licious but the service was super friendly and it wasn’t a long wait for such a busy place. We dined in and the only thing that could have improved our experience was it was a little cold, but you get that when you sit by the door of a popular eatery in the middle of winter! All in all we highly rate the Countryman Restaurant - thanks for a yummy dinner team :)

This is an authentic Chinese restaurant with delicious old-fashioned fare. We had mapo tofu, shrimp egg fuyong, and sweet sour ribs. Enjoyed it much!

Stopped by here on a Sunday evening on my way back from Auckland. Thought I'd give it a shot, as it was very busy -- a promising sign. Wasn't expecting much, as it looks like a modest takeaway joint with a few tables inside. Well, let me tell you my friends, the food was delicious! I ordered chicken fried rice, stir fried pork, ginger beef hot plate, chicken sweetcorn soup and wonton soup ---washed down with Jasmine tea. The portion sizes were generous. At first I thought I had ordered too much but I couldn't stop eating, it was that good. On leaving, I felt a little guilty, as the meal was worth far more than I paid for it. An excellent deal and overall a superb experience. The food is some of the best Chinese food I have had. It's made in the traditional way, with impeccable attention to the proper heat and meticulous timing, and well-balanced flavours. Who is the mystery chef? They should be given a medal. The service was friendly and professional too. My only gripe is it took about 40 minutes for the food to arrive. I suggest they get a helper and put the prices up by at least 20 percent... but these are minor quips. Highly recommended!
