Review Jam Organic Cafe - Takapuna

Julie Storr
Great cafe for brunch but is very popular it does get super busy. So expect to wait on a weekend. Were lucky to have a beautiful day on Saturday and sat outside watching a dog show in the adjacent gardens. Great bustling atmosphere, lovely fresh cooked food. Good vegan and vegetarian options.

Late review - I visited the Jam Organic Cafe in mid June. The food, the service and the atmosphere, everything was great! I tried the Leek soup and Ciabatta toast, it was lovely. Also, had a chat with the lady, seemed like the manager of the cafe, about a few things around that time (if you remember me, I asked you about a certain office on level 4 of the building next to your cafe and you said that there was nothing on level 4, it was vacant, haha funny!!! 😄).

Our friend recommended Jam and so glad we came over to have breaky, such beautiful food, coffee and service in a great atmosphere where we could have our little dog with us too.

Food is Excellent and staff is very friendly. Must recommend beautiful bene and their freshly baked Loafs 🍞 . They also customise the meal if you have any allergies. Many Thanks for make my dayđŸ„‚đŸ„‚

Best cafe in Takapuna! Food is fresh, healthy and fantastic. Great service and atmosphere. Tried some others and just kept coming back here after the first try. Must have in Takapuna!
Aruna Kumari
Amazing food and coffee no wonder why they are awarded twice for best coffee in Takapuna. And 2nd runner up for the best cafe as well. The beautiful Indian lady was so amazing in customer service and the rest of the staff members were also top-notch.

I had the bircher muesli it is the best I recommend it! I have had many bircher muesli but none can compare to Jam cafe. Coffee was ok I could tell it was left on the counter for a bit to long but it was tolerable. We had the matcha latte wasn't as good as it could be but again totally manageable. I would recommend this place for their food it is amazing! Kinda pricey but the food is worth it.

Very nice cafe with a dynamic and friendly crew. The dishes were well dressed and delicious. It's a little bit expensive but you know what you are paying for.

Its always nice to be greeted by a warm smile. It was the first time to add mushrooms, it was really good! I love the shared tables and sun🙂

Good, friendly service, not long of a wait for food and drink. Reasonably priced and pretty good eating.

Been here 3 times now. Have enjoyed the whole experience each time. Food options are great.

Very friendly staff love the service, Yummm food and coffee 10/10

Great coffee and food. Good location and staff are very friendly.

Love the selection of vegan treats available all the time. In overall, the prices are very good and the portions are huge. Coffee is very nice (which is always a problem). Really like the juices and the smoothies. Perhaps more healthy options in the menu?

best food people (Especially Judah And Tamara) best thing ever

Really nice smashed avocado! I will certainly return for more of these

Absolutely love this cafe! Have been here quite a few times and have never been disappointed. Coffee is perfect, food is always really good. Service is also good but the wait time can get pretty hectic but totally worth it.
Rachel
I’ve come a few times on a Saturday, the foods been good but the service is very slow. Feel ignored, takes ages to get a menu, not even given drinks menu and then a further long wait for your order to be taken and then given. Very slow service could be more prompt and more friendly. The foods not worth the very slow wait.

I experienced horrible customer service at Jam cafe. Specifically from a woman with tattoos who i assume was the manager. I also noticed the treatment that she gave to the other employees that were working the same day. This to me shows a bad working environment for the young people there.
Lucy B
Average/ok food but $9 for an iced latte. Are you kidding? It was like drinking a giant glass of milk too. An iced latte is a normal latte... but cold with ice. Not sure what was lost in translation there.

Service was fine but I noticed other people being brought menus and orders being taken at their table while we were ignored and had to order at the counter. Not a big deal but I found it odd that some tables were brought water and being served while others weren’t.
Mya S
I ordered the Avocado Smash and a Spirulina smoothie. There are no vegan options at this cafe so I asked to swap the egg in the Avocado Smash for mushrooms and ordered extra roasted tomato on the side. Please be aware that when you veganize items on the menu to make sure you are not being charged extra as I had been by $2.50. All in all the smashed avocado was delicious and the mushrooms were well herbed, however the roasted tomatoes were not roasted very well.
Savannah B
Ordered the muesli bowl with coconut yoghurt and fruit which was really nice. But that took 25 minutes and then my partners coffee took another 10 and mine took another 15?? Coffee should always come before food.

First time coming here today. Reviews were promising so thought I would give it a go. I can’t speak about the food as I ordered coffees, a cappuccino and a mocha. The service wasn’t that great - I think they may have got my order wrong, giving me a flat white instead of a cappuccino. I pointed this out, only for the woman to sprinkle chocolate over the top and hand it back to me. I’m no coffee snob but I know that the milk ratio from flat white to cappuccino is different, and I thought it was rather rude to do that in plain sight where I could see them. Just because of this, I don’t think I will be back.

I'm eating this yummy banana loaf and drinking an 8 oz hot chocolate as I type. Loving my breakfast but didn't quite love the service. You see, I'm a Southeast Asian lady, not too dressed because it's a Friday, no makeup and literally just got out of the car from a 30 minute nap. I drove an hour and 20 minutes to get to Auckland so all I wanted was a nice, warm breakfast. I got that all right but Jam Organic Cafe's service was cold. This lady with short blonde hair was building rapport with a customer by giving her cute little toddler a smile and a very happy pause as she came in from serving a customer sitting outside. When she was done, I followed her in and lined up to the counter. When she saw me, her smile dropped, gave me a poker face look and asked "How are you?" I replied with a big smile "I'm fine thanks. Can I please have a hot chocolate?" She asked "What size?" and looked at the size of the cups to show me the options. "6 ounces please, oh sorry, no 8 ounces, please." She said "That would be dollars." I added "Can I also have a banana loaf?" Her poker face dropped some more and said "That would be dollars." I paid using EFTPOS, she took a loaf of banana bread and handed it to me in a brown paper bag, all of this was done without any sign of a smile and no words uttered. I awkwardly went to the side to wait for my hot chocolate, the barista having the same kind of face but it didn't bother me as I thought she was just busy. Another staff came in with a delivery of goods or something and smiled as he walked past. "At least that guy knows how to smile," I thought. A few seconds later, another lady comes in. The cashier who served me lit up, served the lady with a smile and started chatting. "She must be a regular," I tried to kid myself. When that lady came to the barista, the barista lit up too and they started chatting. I was just wondering, what did I do to not deserve a welcoming smile and some kind of building rapport during service? I speak English too, you know. LOL. Is it because I am not white, just like all of them? Just curious. It was 7:40am.

Probably one of my favourite places to get breakfast/brunch in Takapuna! Friendly staff and lots of variety for breakfast, I am a big fan of the JAM eggs and bacon combo so I usually go for that. Eggs always cooked right and bacon is super flavourful. JAM is awesome!!
Adline Shandil
What a nice start to a Sunday morning brunch. The food was great and the cafe was “jam” packed. We were told there was a 35 minutes wait time but to our surprise, the food was ready way before we expected. The staff were really friendly. Special thanks to Martin, who was a very helpful soul to the little bit of mix up that we had. No biggie. Very good with recommendations for the smoothies. Coffee was delicious. The kind that leaves a pleasant aroma that reaches the insides of your nose from you throat. The food was really delicious as well with the packed punch of flavour and delicacy. The environment itself was very pleasant and even though they had a few seating spaces inside, they definitely know how to maximise the utility of outside spaces. Simple words- even though the cafe was packed, it didn’t feel congested at all.

Conclusion: keep up the good work
Diane
Beautiful food though a little pricey. Get rid of the 90's style tiny coffee cups. If paying $4.50 for a coffee, it would be good to get a normal size cup.
Lucy Lu
Loved the food, super fresh and nice balanced flavour. The smashed avocado is one of the best in auckland. Good location too, few meters from the beach, nice outdoor area, very kids friendly. Will definitely come back again. Nice work the Jam team!
Carol Paula
Relaxed atmosphere, food is tasty with good sized portions, service is also good. we weren't sure if we should order from the counter or table but on asking a waiter took our order. I was able to request almond milk with my tea, here is a pic of the protein hotcakes.
Aimee.
Such a cute little cafe. Great location as well. Everything is fresh and up to a high standard. The portions are average for what you pay. However they do use the best ingredients.

Hands down, my favorite spot in Takapuna. I have been in Takapuna for about a week, and have gone three times already. The service is great and super friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious! The Protein Hotcakes are one of my favorite things on the menu, and the French Toast is unbelievable too. The omelettes are a great size and super filling. Their 5-grain toast with jam is the perfect add on with your egg dish. We also ordered bliss balls, which are a great snack for after breakfast or for later...
Briar McGlynn
I ordered the eggs benedict with bacon and was very pleased with my meal overall. It was presented in a stack formation which made it easy to eat as everything was already together. I am a fan of english muffins so I enjoyed the texture of them but my meal companion said they would have preferred perhaps a crunchier toast instead. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the flavour of the hollandaise was good but could have been a thicker consistency. I would return.
Peter
Had a quick brekkie/coffee, which have done before several times and its normally pretty good. This time side salad was inedible, so dry it could have nearly been a dried herb selection. Possibly as I'm no Hipster it was the case of pass the old stuff to the odd one out... was disappointed..

We used to go here all the time new owners. Smaller portions, same price as it used to be though, no attention to detail, the omelette I received was big chunks of egg yolk and thrown on to my place it was disgusting. My partners meal was the Adrian's, dry toast, over cooked bacon the hash was smaller, and the mince thing was much smaller too. When asked by the new owner how it was. We gave him the feedback then couldn't get rid of him, he had to stand there and tell me how things are hard, their not making huge profits etc etc. A quick sorry about that, get you another one, or when asked what I would like to do, I said I will have my money back on the omelette please but no he then brought the plate back and said the Chef was a TOP chef and blah blah blah.... REALLY? I will never eat there again. Oh the coffee was good and the French Waiter.
Tan.ned
Great customer service! One of the better clean eating places! I recommend thier Quinoa and beetroot fritters 🙂 a bit pricey but it's all good food!
Bella Qian
Overrated. The coffee was decent although there wasn't much foam and it wasn't served very hot. The french toast were really just average. Good sized portion but still overpriced. There was not much mascarpone and way too much spicy apply sauce which made the toast soggy. Overall just really average.
Greg Brown
Been meaning to try for some time. It's always extremely busy so had high hopes. Awesome place to go on a sunny day as 90% of seating is outside. Had the standard eggs Benedict, my partner the quick breakfast. Eggs Benedict was a good size but the sauce tasted only of butter. The smoothies nice. Will give it another go at some stage but I'm thinking it's busy for location and not so much the food.
Ayaan
Use to be a great spot was our local every wknd but it seems the chef has changed and people can see that in the food and the staff are not as bubbly, they had great cabinet food too bring back the lemon slice.
Lucy Cronin
Service slow and staff pretty unpleasant. Coffee burnt and had to be returned, replacement wasn't any better. Food was nice but pretty overpriced for what it was. Not sure why this place gets so much hype to be honest.
Charlotte Emily Young
5 PLUS PLUS PLUS STARS!! I went to you guys when i was really hungover the other week, i ordered a long black and scrambled eggs on whole grain toast. I was blown away by how amazing my breakfast was, totally cured my hangover and 100% made my week! Thanks so much guys!!
Kiwi888
Great spot, sit outside on a sunny day. Excellent coffee. Staff a bit stand offish, perhaps a bit busy.

Old school mince is my favorite, like to dress it up with a bit of hot sauce. Works well with a strong double shot!
Charlie
Jam is one of my favourite cafes and I always go whenever I am back up in Auckland! This time I decided to go for something different and ordered the bircher muesli. I was quite disappointed and it seemed more like normal muesli not bircher muesli, It was also a bit too sweet for my liking but the berries on top were nice. I also got the ginger ninja juice which was fresh and tasty.

Good value for money but next time I will definitely switch back to my all time favourite which is the jam style eggs or smashed avo! Highly recommend these both.

Nice location tucked away in Takapuna with a good seating arrangement outside for when it's sunny. They also have lots of yummy raw treats and cabinet food!

Always good service and coffees and the staff and super friendly! Was just a little let down by this particular visit.
Alexis Leader
The menu is packed with delicious options, I love the Jam style eggs - the best breakfast I have ever tasted.
They also have some tasty raw treats in their front cabinet- the raw caramel slice is so good!

To be honest seeing the word organic everywhere is staring to make me cringe, it just feels like a marketing tool telling us that it's 'better' for you so you MUST eat drink it, a step down from vegans giving you grief for eating meat, but condescending nevertheless ,in saying that the food is delicious , had the eggs bene, because it's cooked to perfection not because it's organic ,the coffee has a strange taste to it, very earthy but not undrinkable, and the service is very professional and friendly if a little bit too cool for school. Definitely fits in, in the Takapuna area...
Sarah Parsons
Excellent and attentive service in the heart of Takapuna. Loved the selection of breads I could choose from with my bacon and eggs. Dining partner well impressed with his Eggs benedict, also great knowing they were free range eggs.

Brilliant mocca's jaffa's a nice touch.

Don't really understand why this place is so busy. This place was once a gem and I was a regular. Lately the service has gone downhill. Their table numbering system means the staff circle the whole cafe and outdoor area trying to read off numbers so by the time you get your coffee or food its been under everyone's face and its cold. This time I didn't even get my coffee because it never came even though everyone else at my table were served theirs. When I enquired I didn't get any feedback so I waited. Noticed the Barista rubbing her nose while making coffees so decided to cancel as It has been at least 20min since I ordered and don't really rate that kind of hygiene standard. When I cancelled I explained it took too long and WOW the staff have attitude. The waiter who didn't look any older than 15 struggled his shoulders and walked off as though I was his naggy mother. Never again. I hope management sorts out their service as with all these new cafes opening up with slick service it will only be a matter of time before more loyal customers stop returning.

What an absolute gem of a cafe! I haven't been this impressed with a cafe in a long long time. I ordered the jam style eggs and it was cooked to perfection - definately blew my taste buds away with happiness. One of my favs for sure but it frustrates me that they close at 3pm - first world problems!
Petra
Their cabinet salads and sandwiches always disappoint but the chicken salad on their menu is delicious and they have great cheese scones! :)

Is Jam turning to Jelly?

One of my favourite places for a weekend brunch, but ..... something's changed, something's not quite right.

The menu hasn't changed, those AMAZING banana smoothies are still there (Yuss!) . The venue hasn't changed, still the relaxed dog friendly courtyard to bask in the sunlight. What has changed is the brigade that ran the weekend brunch service a year ago are now pumpin' out the best burgers in town over at Burger, Burger. This means new talent get to chance their arm at running service at one of Auckland's best cafes. The presentation of the meals has altered, that's cool, at the end of the day I feel whoever's running the kitchen needs to have their personality on the plate, it's their blood, sweat and tears after all.

Unfortunately what has also altered is the quality of the end product. The food is just not as refined as it used to be. All the elements are still there, there's just not as much love. From overcooked poached eggs to greasy potato rostis being left in the deep fryer for too long. When you're paying upwards of $20+ for brunch, food needs love.
Please bring back the love.

Came here for Brunch with mum on Waitangi monday. Great busy atmosphere but still super easy to find a table. The staff were welcoming, friendly and fast! The coffee was great too. We both ordered the guacamole on 5 grain with salmon and it was okay. I've had their chicken salad before and that was great but this was just ok. Nothing too special. The service was good so will be back for something different next time!

Finally got the chance to try this place since I was up in takapuna đŸ™ŒđŸ». Super glad that I did! The vibe is awesome on a blazing Saturday morning and since it is so close to the beach you feel incredibly relaxed while at the table. The service is OK but nothing to write home about. The menu is extensive with a lot of health orientated options to keep you going. They are able to accommodate to different dietary requirements which is a blessing - they have almond milk! 💕. Food is really nice and you can taste the quality of the ingredients. I would definitely come back if I found myself in takapuna again 😄
Lissy Fehnker
Food is what you expect. Service is pretty bad. Been here twice and walked out annoyed at how rude the staff were. My flatmate also just went and came home saying the same thing. Don't really recommend.

An early morning breakfast at Jam is a must if you want to escape the crows that come with this family friendly cafe close to Takapuna beach :-) the best coffee we have had in ahead followed by a pretty good meal. Good balance of flavour. Large options. Will be coming again
Thegreeats
Quite limited seating with most of it being outdoors so not so great in winter!
The table number is written on little jam jars so I feel a bit bad for the poor waitresses walking around trying to read on the little jars; bit impractical
But food is good !
Their burger was delicious and so was their haloumi and chicken salad
There is no wow factor but a good cafe to visit if you're around :)
Alysha Bower
I went here for lunch today with my friend. The atmosphere is really nice, it's open and there is plenty of seating. The staff are friendly and are more than willing to help. I had the Old time Mince with no eggs and mushrooms instead. My friend had the chicken sliders. The food itself was nice but nothing special. I had heard the food was amazing but I was a tad disappointed. I will be back though as its a nice cafe.
Alwayseating
A mate of mine started Jam and he really made Jam one of the top places to eat in Taka. The new owners still deliver the great food Jam is best know for, I had the breaky salad (wow) and coffees are always top quality!
Leanne Archer
I have to agree with Jaffa, I have been coming here regularly over the past few years but the Bagel Stack with bacon I had this week for lunch was not up to the usual high standard of this cafe.
Jasmine Cairo
Went to Jam today this used to be one of our regular go-to's, we were very excited for our French toast to arrive. They seemed rather busy and after a reasonable 20 minutes we received our meals, what I got was certainly not what I expected! I got two pieces of burnt French toast, one sad piece of bacon and half of a small banana the lashings of syrup I was craving were sadly missing also. We did not receive any service, no one greeted us or asked how our meals were or even replied to our goodbye. Missing what used to be!
Hannah Short
This place is amazing!! Im obsessed and will be back for certain. The beautiful salads with haloumi chicken and kumara are a must try. The raw balls and protein slices are yummy. The big breakfasts are insane. Such a cool place with fresh tasting yummy foods
Noosheen Nezhad
My friend A Libra Perspective and I had brunch here the other day. I ordered the smashed avocado and he had the jam style eggs. My meal was delicious and the coffee was good too. We've been here a few times already and would definitely return again.
Livi Baker
Obsessed with their protein pancakes! Definitely a go-to cafe when visiting the shore. They have a good variety of foods on their menu and delicious cabinet food. They also had very good customer service skills.
Chelsea Pratt
Unfortunately was dissapointed when I went here today for lunch, this used to be my favourite absolute lunch spot. The chicken mango salad used to be incredible but today when I ordered it, the chicken was cold and dry like it had been cooked a while ago and in the middle of the salad I came to a pile of rock salt as if the lid had come off the salt shaker and they just left it all on my salad. Not very pleasant to eat! I was so dissapointed as I specially went out of my way to go there for lunch today and sadly it was not a good experience at all and I don't think I'll be making that trip again.
Charlie Mcfarland
Nice for a coffee and sitting it the sun. I had a raw cheesecake which was pretty good. Coffee was good. Some healthier options too. Staff were friendly.
Irish Eyes
Fantastic cafe! My weight would soar if I lived close to this delightful Takapuna cafe. The cabinet tempts with wholesome freshly baked items. But it is the superb Chicken Salad that lures me here. It is a generous salad bursting with flavour and interest. Crispy fried kumera rests on the top, with grilled cheese, nuts, mango and a chicken breast nestled amongst salad greens. The dressing is not overpowering. Divine! And it didn't wreck my diet! Service is friendly and efficient. Coffee is good. Cafe is clean and situated in a pretty setting with the outside tables shaded by trees. Nicer perhaps on a sunny day, but good food is so enjoyable here even on a wet day ! Well worth a visit!
GideonMarisa MasterchefNz2015
I did like the location of this place,it has potential to do well but I think it will grow into its own. I had a Kale smoothie and to be fair it was pretty standard! I havent tried the food but looking at the selection of cabinet food I was impressed. Would love to try it on the weekend when I have lots of time #g1

Got a takeaway salad from Jam last week - I loved the actual salad and the ingredients were fresh and delicious but I ordered a Large and I didn't think the salad was big enough as it was only one layer of the takeaway box.
Jaffa
This used to be one of my favourite Taka cafes... But have found recent visits a bit lacking. Disappointed as they have taken away the free jafas with coffee, and my last visit the coffee was almost un-drinkable! Hoping it was just a very off day!
Fylde
Nice location and friendly staff but avoid if you are busy. Shame as the food looks and tastes great (nice eggs ben) and they do a good soy latte. They have a great set up with a wide well presented range despite the small size of the venue. May try again but only if not busy.
Jessica Teasdale
I love organic cafes and Jam is pretty up there as one of my favourites! I had the waffles which were so yum and doughy! Not just ordinary taster waffles. The fruit was such a nice component as it was a generous amount and made the whole dish quite fresh and summery!

My friend order one of the smoothies which I had a sip of. Was so refreshing and such a generous size! Could have the smoothie as a meal by itself as it was so filling!

The prices are slightly higher, but I guess that's to be expected as it is all organic. Would definitely come again, one of my favourite places in takapuna!
Tanya Kerr
Love Jam. Come here all the time after walks on the beach with my dog. Great for summer brunch due to all the available outdoor seating. Every time I go I order something different because all their dishes sound so delicious it's hard to stick to one thing! The staff here are great and the atmosphere fits takapuna perfectly
Adeline
This wee cafe gets very busy, very quickly. So either come early and don't be fussed about seating, or be prepared to wait. Regardless, I always feel slightly claustraphobic and self-conscious whenever I'm at this cafe. Maybe it's the layout (everything seems to be squeezed to the side)? I don't know.

I ordered the highly recommended jam style eggs. It was okay, I'm not sure what's so special about it. Coffee was okay too - I ordered it almond milk, I think I should have just gone with regular milk. LOL it was a bit too powdery-bitter for my taste.

A bit expensive for its portion sizes. But it seems to be a hot spot for Takapunians. Child and pet-friendly (lots of running space outside).
Syd
Just up the road from my work quite handy for me. I had Protein hot cakes one of the best ones i have had in a long time!!
A bit expensive but the food is good quality !!
Xtina Cassidy
Massive Portions! I ordered an egg white omelet, and it was so filling! Love that it had healthy alternatives and options! Thoroughly enjoyed my time there! Cabinet food looks very enticing too!
Maddie
When we arrived at Jam cafe, we were left waiting for a table for at least 20 minutes which we weren't too happy about because other people were being seated before us. When we finally got seated I ordered the chicken salad and a coffee and my partner ordered the beef burger. The coffee is okay, it was quite weak and watery. When our food got to us, my salad was so over salted! It tasted like the chicken was coated in salt, aswell as the haloumi cheese, kumara chips and even the lettuce! I ended up not eating half of it and I felt quite sick for the rest of the afternoon. My partner enjoyed his burger although we probably won't go back.
Dondon3000
Mince on toast was epic and light and the poached eggs were perfectly cooked coffee was just right and didn't need sugar. Will be back if I'm in the area.
Scott
Location wise its perfect, right in the middle of Takapuna. Plenty of outside seating and a box of toys for the kids.
Coffee wise its spot on, great coffee.
Food is also typical cafe fare, nothing overly amazing taste wise, presentation is great though.
Service is hit and miss, depends on the day! today was horrific to the point of my wife coffee being pretty much thrown at her by the waitress, however the week before was perfect.
Brigid Radich
Jam had become one of my new favourite cafés to eat at, the chicken salad is the highlight on the menu. Although the customer service at jam is terrible, the staff are too concerned with hearing about each others social lives rather than serving or taking the courtesy to say I hope your meal was ok, or asking if I'm done before taking my plate. Great menu the staffing just let's it down.
LouLou
I've always heard such great things about this place and couldn't wait to try it out. I was disappointed by the whole experience - they weren't busy when we visited, towards the end of the main throng I've usually seen there, staff were indifferent, all of the 4 empty outdoor tables were dirty and the food was unmemorable. Although the coffee was enjoyable, I really don't know what any of the hype is about. Jam isn't high on my list for a re-visit I'm afraid.
Kat M
Had brunch at Jam with my parents last Sunday, it was so packed! Staff were friendly and very helpful even though they were run off their feet. I had an omelette which was nice, and a fresh juice. Food was healthy and fresh, a tad expensive however. When we finished I had to line up for 10-15 minutes to pay as the queue was out the door for the till, with people ordering takeaway coffee. Perhaps they should have a mobile eftpos machine for taking payment at the tables to save people queuing up for so long? Overall a nice place to visit, and I'd probably return.
A Libra Perspective
From the first time I visited Jam I have always remembered it fondly.

I only ever have the jam style eggs which have changed, but are still good if not better. The hash rosti it comes on is amazing and the creamed spinach is delicious. Their coffee is always always always delicious! I'm partial to a hazelnut latte.

The atmosphere is not the best as it is small and getting a table at the weekend is out of the question for me, without either a long wait or sitting outside. The seating can be very awkward. In summer however it shines.

Room for improvement: Jam is tucked away and can be overlooked but it has the potential to be the best cafe in Takapuna. They should invest in buying more building and providing more space, an extension would not be a stupid idea. I would love to try their iced coffee but ten dollars for a milkshake is far too much to pay. Even if it's organic.

Jam holds my favourite brunch item in Auckland, I wish I could enjoy it more often. I also wish they had more space than they do, because sitting outside in the cold should not be an option.
Patricia J. Boland
Brunch on a Thursday morning with family of 5. All adults and all hungry. Only space inside was a large table which had the traffic to and from the counter/kitchen area so I opted for a table outside. Thankfully not too cold. Our drink orders came promptly but our food was delayed by an error so we waited an hour. :-( Adrian's breakfast was great though and my jam eggs came with the tasty potato/bacon hash and spinach, so we forgave them the shameful delay. The 3 adult children all ordered the French toast. Strawberries were on the menu but not on the plates. The banana foam also looked like it had split. And it was draped over the whole meal as if to conceal the lack of said fruit. We were offered complimentary drinks for the delay so they at least acknowledged their error.

So many options on the menu to choose from, took me a good 20 minutes to decide! Always nice having a big variety. The cabinet salads looks great too! I ended up having the Protein pancakes with maple, berries, yogurt and poached pears. Yum!!! Came out looking quite small but boy did it hit the spot and fill me up in the end! The pancakes were very dense which I loved. I asked what else was in them and the lady said oats so that's a plus! Although it would have been nice to have a bit more maple syrup that what they came with! I went with a group of 6 and everyone's meals looked amazing. I would probably rate this place a 5 if it weren't s crammed and crowded. And the service wasn't very good. But other than that, would highly recommend!

Went here this weekend for a late lunch and the food was great. My sister had the chicken salad and I wanted to get the snapper sliders. Unfortunately they didn't have snapper anymore but I was told they could do it with chicken which I agreed to. The sliders
were nice and tasty. My sister's salad was massive and was also nice.
The food came fast too. My mocha and sister's flat white were also good. I love this cafe.@

Awesome breakfast 9/10 one of the best we found in NZ

coffee 5/10 was not so good the coffee was bitter, maybe it was the bean but just not a good coffee still better then BP though

Amazing food; had the french toast and salmon eggs benedict. The french toast includes a fluffy light toast that is sweetened with syrup, banana foam and strawberries on the side. The eggs bene had a crispy fried potato base as the bread and a very rich combination of spinach salmon and eggs. Both were both filling and very satisfying.

Only downside was there were a load of flies flying around which was distracting.

4 Yums.

Jam is so yummy! Their staff are always friendly and the food never disappoints. The only problem is, there isn't enough seating sometimes. But that's only because it's such a popular cafe. Their cabinet food is to die for, so if you re short for time definitely pop in and grab something from the cabinet

2 'Adrian' breakfasts on an early Saturday morning really did hit the right notes on our visit to the cafe. It was the first time we'd ever come here and I was genuinely happy with my experience.

I really enjoyed the spicy sausage, the little mince pastry and bacon on my very full plate. Not often when choosing a 'big breakfast' at a cafe would you find all three meats choices equally delicious. Must be the organic ingredients :). Everything seemed very fresh, clean and plated with such care.

Service was warm and efficient, and even when the wait staff asked how our meals were when they cleared our plates , they actually seemed generally interested. Coffee was fine, although it's the food and service I'd return for.

Jam is always a hit! We've been there a few times and the food is always fresh, well balanced and tasty. We love the pastry aswell. A great local to come back to
Lovely spot to people watch with a variety of seating areas. Coffee was a bit foamy for my liking and the brownie was very hard and chewy. Was the first brownie that I've not finished. Service was good though and the other cabinet food looked pretty tasty.

Great spot this. Friendly staff & great coffee. Cabinet treats are delish. Would come here much more often if I lived on the shore. Best on sunny day.

Great place for breakfast on very warm day under the sun, as they have a lot of seat outside.
Food is ordinarily good, French toast with cream but actually yogurt cream with hint of banana which is amazed me!
We ordered omelette, and also the burger.
Unlikely to other organic cafe, they fill me up very good...
Smoothie is a bit pricey for what it is... But I see other organic cafe charges the same so this must be a "reasonable price".

I asked one of male waiter if I could have a spare dish.
Beforehand when I was wondering around to ask for spare dish, he noticed straight away and asked me if I need anything.
And he stopped what he was doing and gave me a dish.
I see a lot of people try to ignore or annoyed at customer, prioritise what they are doing instead of customer needs, so his action was very impressed.
Simply terrible! We looked at this place online and drove for 40 minutes to get there on Saturday. Let me outline the experience under the terrible management here. I walked in with my partner and was passed by 4 team members with no welcome at all and felt quite uncomfortable almost at once by the staff and environment. We then stood at the service desk while a lady looked down and ignored us for nearly a minute before eventually looking up and abruptly saying ‘hi’; and when I say ignore, I actually mean ignore. I then asked if there was a table available for 2, to which she simply pointed at a table in the middle of the cafĂ©. We then sat down trying to avoid the leftover food on the table which was sincerely at its worst and were again approached by the lady who ignored us at the desk. She came over looking like a truck had hit her in the face and casually flung 2 menus on the opposite side of the table without anything else said and no offer to clean the table. Tipping point came after we had sat there for nearly 5 minutes with zero interaction when at last we thought someone was coming over to possibly take an order. However, the gentleman had simply came over the ‘borrow one of the chairs at the table’ so he could proceed to stand on in to reach for what I presume was some stock. We left immediately and found a lovely little cafĂ© just around the corner named Mimosa to which we were greeted with smiling faces and pleasant staff where the food was equally as good. We will of course never go back.

I'm a cafe hopper. But I always find myself coming back here for my favourites. I loooove their breakfasts especially the omelette and big breakfast. Another one of my favourites is the chicken salad! Wowzers! It's one of the best I've ever had: avo, crispy kumara topping, succulent chicken (and organic may i add!), beautiful dressing, fresh salad! Unreal! Highly recommend. Only issue I've had is that it is often packed (especially in summer) and I can be a little impatient when waiting on my food!!! But usually service is great.

We use to come to Jam a lot but excuse the pun it became jammed packed which had a knock on effect on the speed of service. We had heard that things had calmed down due to the proliferation of cafes in the area (eg Franc's) so we tried it earlier today (Sunday).

The service and the food is back to its high standard. We had poached eggs, bacon and tomatoes. The coffee was a bit bitter.
Alex
Great cafe with delicious food. Been there many times and never disappointed! Generous portions as well. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful.. There are a few that don't seem interested though. Quick turn around during the week which is great!

We heard great things about this cafe so thought we would try it out for my husband's 40th brunch. The staff were really unhelpful and quite rude and arrogant and we ended up leaving. Just because you are busy doesn't mean you don't have to try a bit harder with customers. Very disappointing.

Simply amazing food and great service. Food came out within 10 minutes even though all the tables were full. Great to have a delicious meal that is guilt free. Staff were great

Any time in asked here to go for breakfast in takapuna my answer is always Jam.

Fantastic coffee, food and service.
Oh and the BLT's at top notch.

Disappointing. It's great that free-range produce is provided but this should be a standard nowadays, not a goal. The French Toast was OK - only 1 rasher of bacon to 2 big slabs of toast, with a strange banana foam on the side. I would much rather have fresh bananas. The Big Breakfast was better simply by virtue of being unusual in its contents. This café has the potential to be so much better than it is now, especially if the staff become more proactive and less apologetic.

The combination of beautiful weather and the long weekend took us all the way to Takapuna where we had lunch at Jam Organic Cafe. Next to a small reserve on Hurstmere Road, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a healthy organic meal with a fresh juice or smoothie.

The chicken salad with avocado and mango chutney was jam-packed with ingredients and the mango chutney was superb. A nice combination of wide rocket, free range chicken breast, grilled holloumi, ripe avocado, kumara crisps and roasted almonds. The jam style eggs on home-made bacon hash on free range bacon was just what I was after. Despite running out of hollandaise sauce, the tomato jam replacement was just as good and the runny poached eggs kept the nice adequately moist. The bacon and cheese croissants was accompanied with a side of leafy salad and chutney, toasted to perfection.

We had a wonderful time at Jam Organic Cafe. Great attentive service and one of the wait staff was considerate enough to bring out a bowl of water for our puppies. I opted to not have coffee this time and instead I kept myself hydrated with a fresh life juice while my friends had iced coffees! Best way to cool down on a hot sunny day.

Excellent atmosphere, exciting setting and so nearby the beach. The food was generous and delicious, coffees were great and as expected, very busy. Staff were super busy but always able to help out with the smallest of things. Our savoury mini spinach loaf was super excellent and we would definitely go back again. Totally recommended!

Didn't stay there long enough to enjoy the cafe properly, but from what I could see the place was humming, had a good selection of counter food and everyone had nice looking dishes in front of them. The carrot cake I ordered was sensational, can't complain about the coffee. Just a little bit hard to spot since it is hidden away a bit, but otherwise definitely worth visiting and I would definitely come here again!

I went to Jam Organic Cafe on saturday and sunday, and I'm already thinking to come back today (monday), it's absolutely delicious!! Healthy and clean food, made with love! Yummy!!! ????

I used to like this place because of the high quality of food, so i was willing to overlook the high prices. But my last visit has put me right off the place. I requested mushrooms on toast with the bacon swapped for avocado, which i thought was fair because the bacon costs $7 as a side and $4.50 for a side of avo. First off, my meal came with bacon still on and no avocado, so i had to send it back. Then, when i went to pay, I was charged the same price as the mushrooms with bacon, plus the added cost of the avocado. None of the staff had told me that I could not swap the sides and frankly I feel ripped off because bacon is clearly more expensive than avocado. Who in their right mind would pay $23 for a small portion of avocado and mushrooms? The cafe is obviously not very accommodating to those with dietary requirements and I will not be returning. A shame that hunger for money has overcome customer service.

Jam Organic Cafe is absolutely delicious! Its very health conscious by providing free range products such as bacon, eggs, chicken and everything organic where possible. A huge tick which I totally follow in my own weekly food shopping.

This is a great venue for a sunny day, because most of it sits outside in the sun. So not the best place to visit on day with rainy weather. The quinoa fritters were a great modern take on the boring corn fritters, served at most cafes. Mixed with beetroot, they are light and airy with no grease. The candied walnuts gave it the texture it needs with that tad of sweetness to balance a savoury dish. Its a very innovative dish and something different to order. The only issue was there was too much feta, which over powered the dish slightly, also I personally am not a fan of feta so that could just be me. No complaints with the egg white omelette from my mate.

The banana smoothie was delicious - and wow soooo big! Couldn't believe the size. Big tick for value for money right there. I would happily return, even if its a short drive to the north shore.

Great service, value for money and love the healthy vibe the cafe provides.

Rating
Food: 9/10
Service: 9/10
Value for Money: Very Good

33-45 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna
Opening Hours:
Mon-Sat 7am-3pm
Sun 8am-3pm

Beautiful sunny spot for brunch. I had the smoked salmon omelette. Nice and light and tasty. Efficient service. Thank you.

Jam Cafe.

Simple food executed well. Something we see all too rare on my side of the bridge when it comes to cafe quality.

Organic, affordable and tasty. Big breakfasts that are actually big, mince on toast for the old school types, house made hash that's
1. Actually house made
2. Freaking delicious - and a man that looks like he's had one to many protein shakes - for the ladies of course.

A Monday dead in the middle of winter and they are pumping.

Coffee - 4
Service - 5
Food - 5
Takapuna is getting there....this place was packed today (Sunday) but the service and the food were great. Had the chicken salad and was very nice, only let down ...the mango from a can....hopefully they can source fresh mangoes..otherwise ..great food and coffee....takapuna taking over from Ponsonby where most cafés are charging way too much for what you get..,will definitely recommend and come back soon to try again the carrot cake! That one is a must.

I had heard good things of this spot however a number of factors that all stacked up made this experience very average. The table we sat at was (partially) cleared about five minutes after we sat down. No water was offered. The coffee lacked any redeeming flavours and the cup looked like it needed a good scrub. BLAT was generous for the price, but undressed mesclun plonked on the side brought it down. Nice location and decor, service was polite and friendly.

Went in for the first time and am definitely making it my regular. The best mocha I've ever had in my life and the food was perfectly cooked with the best service I've had in a long time. The overall experience was perfect. I struggled with what to pick on the menu! I wanted everything! Will be back for more!
Gyspy Simmons
One of the top cafes in New-Zealand with the best coffee. Food is also top notch, always perfectly cooked, everything I have had off the menu has never failed to disappoint. Staff are awesome too, so friendly and accommodating especially for such a flat out cafe! Spot on guys!
Lea Jurkovich
Contrary to previous comments I found the staff very friendly and helpful. Great service and food. Coffee was great. One person at my table returned her soup as she didn't want pancetta on it, and she also wanted a different kind of bread with it. This request was no trouble at all, and the waitress was very obliging and polite. I would certainly go back.

Have been a regular patron of this cafe. However last weekend, service was appalling, small meal took 30 minutes to be served. Ordered an item which I had eaten several times before, only to find this time it included bacon, not identified on the menu or by the waitress. As I don't eat meat, I won't be going back. Definitely gone downhill recently.
Vicki Niethe
Been a couple of times for coffee, always good and staff nice as well.
Brian Beard
Great coffee always stop in on way to work right up there with best cafes in taka
David Boshier
This would have to be one of the best cafes in Takapuna where the service and food is consistently good. Made better now that the open space in front has been completed.

Get in early for the savoury muffins, they go quick.

Always worth a stop if you are in Takapuna.

Although the food is nice, I question hygiene practices here. Today a lady working in the kitchen with waist length hair (down, not tied back) flicked her hair back with gloved hands, yuck! Clearly she was preparing food, she is more interested in showing off her hippy hair than thinking about what customers prefer. The staff are also unfriendly and look like they hate their jobs. I never get so much as a smile let alone a hello. I work in their building, but like most of our staff we go to Melba, way better service, coffee and hygiene.
Jeremy
The Guacamole...oh goodness. It was amazing. Absolutely delicious.

Can't stop thinking about it, might go back tomorrow.
Suzanna
Worst experience ever! Rude staff, mediocre coffee. I guess we weren't the target market because the waitresses were certainly far more interested in the male customers. Managed to get one coffee and had to keep asking for the other 2. Never again!
Keryn Coleman
Contrary to the above reviews, I found the service at this cafe appalling. I had the rudest member of staff serve me at the front counter. He was unhelpful and clearly wasn't sure of the menu available. I didn't even bother to stay & enjoy the recommended food & coffee. Perhaps Jam could employ staff who are fluent in English & not condescending to their customers. Overall a bad impression of a popular cafe.
Giapo Grazioli
Lets start from saying that they really know how to make a great mocacchino with real chocolate melted.

Today I have tried the Jam signature dish. It was delicious.
The ingredients worked perfectly together, with a layer of homemade potato cake then spinach, salmon and eggs on top. What a Big Win for my sunday breakfast!

To finish it off, I had a lemon curd sweet pastry and it was terrific.

What really impressed me about this place is that it was harmonic, warm, human and personal.

This is not a standard cafe where you have the set menu made by a chef somewhere and served to you without passion.

If you are looking for a kiwi cafe with a soul and not the usual de humanized franchise, this is an excellent place to go. One of my favorite.
JB
Their Jam-style eggs was beauuutiful. All the flavours of the ingredients blend perfectly together. Can't wait to try their other dishes and coffee. Services was good too.

Absolutely love it! Love it love it love it!

Loved this cafe! It had great outdoor seating for a sunny Sunday morning breakfast. Food was delish and the coffee was great (and I am fussy when it comes to a good coffee!). Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Will be back for more!

LOVE this cafe, the atmosphere, food and staff are all incredible!
Definitely our favourite cafe to go to!

This café is a total destination on the shore! If you've never been you are missing out. Great location with good food and great coffee to match. This used to be a husband and wife team who ran this café, but since split. Jam also recently opened Burger Burger in Ponsonby to show their strong abilities to create good food and recreate those comfort foods. This café however is open and clean oh and gets all day sun! Plus just a stones throw from the beach. Their breakfast foods are amazing and well worth the money. This place is also all about the fresh organic ingredients which is so refreshing! Give it a whirl.

This place is always super busy on weekends and I feel like they can't manage very well. The day we were there, their eftpos machine broke down so we had to go find an atm to get cash out. The staff seem too busy juggling problems that they didn't really care about the customers. The wait for food was pretty long as expected. But maybe it was just a bad day when we went. The ambience of the cafe is nice though with outdoor seating, and a good location in takapuna. Food is pretty normal like every other cafés. Their cold coffee comes in this huge cup I don't know how one person can finish it. Good for sharing I guess.
Elizaveta
Had a lunch today with my family at Jam today. It is a very nice location for a lunch. So sunny. Nicely presented food. Food was nice but staff was not good. The girls who served us were not friendly and we're doing their job like they didn't like and enjoy it. One girl picked up our plates quite roughly at the end of the lunch and drop one of the glasses and even didn't bother to put it right. I am not sure whether I will go back as I like to feel welcomed.

Been here for a nice summer breakfast on a sunday. Loved the casual setting even though it looked like it was a busy day for Jam! Seating is located outside and table numbers are given out as jam jars which I completely adored. Dishes are nicely presented and tasted amazing. Great selection from the menu I had the smoked salmon omelette that I thought was done just perfectly. Definitely a place i'd like to come back to. :)

Just had breakfast at jam, it was super busy but we managed to scam a table..
I had Adrian's breakfast and my wife had salmon and avocado on toast..
Now I'm a big guy and I love my food but goddam that breakfast was a struggle to finish, it was humungous, and so tasty...! 3 hours later I'm still stuffed.. The coffees were great and the service was good too..

Nice work jam :)
