Review Regatta Bar + Eatery - Takapuna

Konnie Matenga
Beautiful classy restaurant by the seaside. Friendly and efficient service. The calamari was delicious, well season with a beautiful sauce to compliment the batter and taste. Runa steak was cooked with perfection. Seafood chowder was nice but not my favorite, a slice of lemon would've been nice and wasn't fond of the the texture of the soup, however it did taste nice and was served with a well crisped sour dough and delicious butter. For dessert we had cheesecake, it had a beautiful presentation but I felt that the ginger (or a certain flavour) was too strong in the dessert (just my preference and I'm no food expert) Would definitely come again because the food, atmosphere is amazing! Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

Great food and a friendly team at this bright bar / restaurant that flanks Takapuna Beach and reserve. Lots of nearby parking. Only negative was bar was out of stock of some cocktail ingredients on the day of our visit (Sunday afternoon of a sunny weekend) and substitute wine took a long time to arrive.

Booked this spot for our anniversary dinner - we had our first date here. Stunning spot, stunning food, and lovely service. We were wished for our anniversary on our way in and given complimentary glasses of champagne to celebrate - so thoughtful. The steaks were nothing short of divine, I had to ask that my compliments be given to the chef on our way out. 10/10 reccomend.

We dined at Regatta on Saturday night. The place was pretty quiet when we arrived and we counted at least 12 staff on. Wait staff were very attentive and checked in numerous times throughout the night to see if everything was ok. Was able to order drinks throughout without having to flag someone over which is a nice change. We ordered a few sides to share. Raw Kingfish, chicken liver parfait, Korean chicken wings, house-baked Sourdough and seaweed butter and the beef tartare. Everything was delicious and flavor combinations were perfect. For mains we shared the crispy Porchetta, Pan fried fish ( snapper), and chargrilled fish ( tuna ). The mains were equally as delicious as the sides and we all agreed this was the best restaurant food we had in a long time. Although already being at belt undoing point we couldn't resist trying the creme brulee and fromage. So glad we did as this was the perfect way to finish off a fantastic meal. Looking forward to returning to Regatta again in the near future.

Had a really delicious meal at ragatta - every bite was full of flavour will definitely come back!

One of the best meals I've ever had. The tuna was unbelievably tasty. It wasn't cheap but well worth the price. Wish I could go every night. The other dishes looked great too. Will be back for sure!

We have been served with excellent food and service. Very nice medium rare steak and super tasty Caesar salad. When my kid’s lunch hit the table, it was in room temperature which she could eat her lunch straightaway. So, well deserved 5 stars…

Oysters with thier little vinaigrette is on!!! the food in general is delicious and well cooked hats off to the chefs!! its worth every cent i stopped here with my family my husband my 12 yr old and my 2 yr old he had just awoken when we arrived so he was grumpy had the workers standing around and asking me if he was feeling abit under the weather cause he was screaming n crying. I would go thier for a glass of wine and a shared plate with a mate as the vibe is like beach side chilling but if you are taking kids and one whom is on the spectrum i would preplan it and kinda let them know first hand so they aint standing around wondering why yah kids flapping or making noises asking if they are ok. But all in all the food is delicious with a great view price is pricey customer service needs a little retraining to shapen up thier skills on handeling situations with children on the spectrum. Other then that it was superb

Nice restaurant. The oysters of the day were nice and fatty. Duck confit burger is very rich. Loved the whipped goat cheese and broccoli. Prices aren’t shown, but beer was 14$ so I wish I would of just spent a few more on a cocktail

Enjoyed Regatta. The antipasto was large- ideal for 4 people and had a nice array of goodies- cold meats, pate, cheeses, pickled veges, fresh fruits, nuts and cracker and breads, really the best I have had in a long time. The Lemon Pepper sqid was delicious. We waited quite awhile for our first drinks even though the place was very quiet but the staff were pleasant and attentive after that, even when it got quite busy. Would like to go back again and try some more things on the menu. Good food, lovely location.

The staff were great, reasonably attentive and friendly. The place is a great location but the table wobbled and the chairs were loud. The sashimi was unnecessarily complicated, the cocktails were light, the mains were pretty basic. Had higher hopes for such a great spot. They are charging for the location not the food.

The food was well-crafted. We had a steak and the snapper. Portions were small but filling. Order your coffee extra hot as it can get cold by the time it arrives to your table. The service was friendly. The views are beautiful. I recommend taking a jacket if you are going towards the evening as it got cold, but the ocean views were beautiful.

We had dinner there yesterday. The food was delicious and fresh. Cocktails were amazing and well presented. Very friendly staff and great service. The view was stunning👍👍 Thank you for making our evening so enjoyable! We’ll definitely be back!

Incredible food, friendly and happy service with a nice view. We’re definitely coming back

Booked in via first table - great service and food! We ordered the squid, cheeseburger, and braised lamb shoulder

This place is officially a new favourite of mine, I’m not sure how it has only a 3.7 rating. The steak, though overcooked was delicious and the prawn starter was amazing. The squid and mocktails were also very good. Loved it! However I went with a first table booking so didn’t feel the heat of the prices as much.

Service = 5/5; Taste = 5/5; Value for money = 3/5; Menu options = 3.5/5; Vibe = 5/5; Hubby rating = 3/5<br/>Regatta Bar & Eatery is a beautiful and classy seaside restaurant on Takapuna beach. The open plan bar and kitchen and the modern decor makes it for an amazing spot for a date night or after work drinks. Although Regatta is quite pricey, the food is absolutely delicious and the service was phenomenal. <br/>To read my full review go to honestfoodiereview.com and follow @honest_foodie_nz

We want there for dîner with my husband and my son. Service was really poor. We have ordered 2 mains and have told them that we will share with our 3 years old. They didn’t have him any fork, glass !!!! <br/>My husband ordered steack and fries and I had gnocchis. Both meals were too salty, I couldn’t taste anything appart from salt!!!! They call gnocchis some square cut potatoes, what a shame ! I would never go again and never recommend it. Such a disappointment from beginning to the end.

A bit on the pricey side but great views of Rangitoto. Excellent food overall. Recommend the seafood chowder entree. The Beef Red curry was let down by being served on a very cold plate unfortunately

Not happy with this place. I had such high expectations but was thoroughly disappointed. The only good thing about our experience today was the view. The food way too pricy but we expected that for the location however what we didn’t expect was to get dry, salty, small portioned meals. I ordered the mushroom gnocchi and actually could not finish it. The sundried tomatoes in it were revolting and burnt, the entire dish was so salty I needed 3 glasses of water afterwards. Hubby had the chicken burger which was so spicy but they didn’t mention that on the menu, he struggled to finish it too. Our coffees were borderline cold. Lastly, the service from the guy who looked after our table was good. Overall, I would not recommend this place.

We had a company Christmas party dinner here on the 10th night, very beautiful place, the staff service was good and I felt very comfortable! Will go with friends next time.

Has one of the best locations in Takapuna and overall it’s a lovely ambience. The service was good but only by the staff ( the manager was a bit disappointed when we requested the change of the table because of the wind and when we finished we were left on wait by him 3-4 min to pay the bill, till some staff from the bar noticed us and took the initiative to help instead) <br/>But the thing I didn’t liked the most this time was the sauce on the ribs: it felt as they have bought a cheap can of ketchup from the supermarket and poured it over the ribs. We couldn’t eat it it. Everything else was good.

Absolutely amazing service and food great friendly staff

Regatta never disappoints! Attentive staff, so welcoming and friendly, great menu, lots of options, the food is incredible and such a beautiful setting right on the beach front!
Chan Can Eat
One of my faves on the shore. This restaurant is great for catching up with friends. Summer is the perfect time to visit. It’s sunny, open fresh decor just screams summer. The food here is always tasty and the service is good. I’ve also been here for a couple events, including the all you can drink Rose lunches and a larger event, all were fabulous and very well run.<br/>Highly recommend <br/>Beautiful view out to rangitoto and the park is just opposite, so if you’re bringing the kids you can take them afterwards and get an ice cream at Ben and jerrys
Jessica
Nice seafood platter. The oyster is really nice, better than my last visit. Chill afternoon with this! The staff were friendly as well. The only off side will be the muscle. All others were good!

Came here with a group of people. Such a beautiful location with lots of natural light streaming in to the restaurant for added ambience. Prices for this restaurant are slightly more expensive however the quality of the food is second to none. I ordered the squid and it was delicious. We also ordered platters for the table (not pictured) and these were great - provided a lot of variety to pick and choose from. Would definitely come here for a dinner date!
Hayley Smith
Don't waste your time going here. Below average food for sky high prices. Rude servers. My seat sat facing the open kitchen and I watched the chefs drop coleslaw on the bench, scrape it off with their hands and put it on the plate. Servers handled the food with their bare hands after handling money and the register. Cocktails took 20 minutes to make. Very disappointed as our bill came close to $600 for 10 people (starters to share and a main each with drinks) so was expecting a higher standard than we received.

We came as a group for a birthday dinner. We got some House Made Bread to share and I ordered the Beef Cheek as my main.<br/><br/>The seaweed butter that paired with the bread was absolutely delicious and I couldn’t help but slather a thick layer on my second slice.<br/><br/>The beef cheek was incredible soft, it just fell right apart, and flavourful. The broccolini had a beautiful charred flavour and the hazelnut cream was a perfect addition. A really delicious dish overall.<br/><br/>We brought in a birthday cake hoping to eat it there but were told when we stepped in that there would be a cake fee. I was surprised as this was not stated anywhere on the website and was expecting it to be around $10 or so, max. So, imagine my surprise when the waiter told us we would have to pay $30 to eat our cake there, something none of us were willing to do. We ended up just storing the cake there and taking it home to eat.<br/><br/>Lively and warm environment, friendly service, but would’ve preferred if they stated the cake fee on their website

Had a very nice time, with my mum. The food was delicious, beautiful flavours. Amazing setup and overall aesthetic. And the staff was very friendly and pleasant. The service was good and everything came out pretty quick

Very good all round. Excellent service, delicious food and a really great atmosphere for a nice relaxing evening. Went here with a couple of friends and all enjoyed.
Mosquito666
Very bad experience. They changed head chef that’s why the dishes are totally different. Steak hard to chew. Salad very salty. Junior Chef with bad cooking still, EvenCashier service bad as well. except the customer boy is ok.
FineDiner
The location is of course unrivalled. The food is okay. But the service, it was not good at all, just one star for the service, particularly the Asian guy. We ordered cranberry juice, they gave us pineapple juice instead. They fixed it immediately, which was great. But when we finished and went to pay, we were charged with both cranberry and pineapple juices.<br/>We had been here many times before, but this time it wasn’t great at all.
Becky Kuang
Came here for a couple of times. Good location. Nice dinning decorations. Services were good. Best steak.

Regatta accommodated to our group on a Tuesday without a reservation and they were happy to serve us, our table kept getting bigger and the staff were very friendly. <br/><br/>They took our drink orders and served water while we waited for the rest of the guests. <br/><br/>The oysters were top notch, and super fresh! The price is not bad either for a dozen. Each dish was also super well presented and made very well. The dessert was so good, coconut panacotta with rhubarb and crumble!
Michel Angelo
The thing I appreciate the most is that Regatta does not take for granted that it is a good restaurant only because it has a wonderful location. The squid was extremely well cooked as was the eye fillet and the customer service was great, this is why I left a tip. Regatta has other strong points: they have an open kitchen, you can literally see the herbs that they are using since they have pots on some shelves and finally you can easily book online on their website. Great experience! The very last thing I would like to clarify is about some negative reviews I was able to read about the $20 water bottle charge... it did not happen to me in contrary they immediately offered me tap water.
Yana Petrenko
Was really not impressed with Regatta the service wasn’t even that good, my food looked disgusting so i took a photo of my dads which also looked quite bad not gonna lie. It’s literally a piece of meat with a few hot chips. I personally could’ve made it better myself and not to mention the chips were cold. The only thing nice about this cafe is that theirs a view of Takapuna beach.
Me And My Darlings
Worth waiting an hour and half for?<br/><br/>Highs : the location – Takapuna Beach promenade and the food was delicious and good portion sizes<br/>Lows : the 1 and a half hour wait for our main : (<br/>Dog friendly : YES!! There was a little dog sitting on the porch section<br/><br/>It had been a couple of years since I first enjoyed the delicious food and good service at #Regatta, so I thought it would be a great place to book in for a ladies lunch and celebrate my friends special birthday (I am not revealing any names or ages ; ).<br/><br/>When we arrived at 12ish the place was deserted and when we ordered around 12.45pm it was still not busy. So I was perplexed when I noticed all the tables around us including one with 6 guests being served their meals BEFORE us. We had already enjoyed our entrees which were tasty and on the generous side, and I had downed my 2nd glass of wine which I ordered specifically to pair with my main of moules frites. I knew something was wrong when the server cleared our entrée plates and asked if we wanted anything further? … oh, just the mains we ordered 45 minutes ago!!! <br/><br/>The response was that the kitchen was busy – not an excuse a hangry diner wants to hear particularly when the kitchen could not in any way have been busy when we actually placed our order (see photos of empty restaurant). AND surely it is not as difficult to prepare the simple dish of mussels and hot chips which my friend and I both ordered (compared to the elaborate looking mains other diners were being served)!!!!! <br/><br/>It sounded more like they stuffed up and forgot our order. Surprisingly the server came back and again was very resistant arguing that the kitchen was so busy and it would be a few more minutes. I asked the server to consult her manager about offering us some sort of compensation. Another server came out 10 minutes later with the chips telling us the mussels would follow! I pointed out that we preferred our chips at the same time as our mussels. A further 10 minutes later we were finally served our mains!!<br/><br/>To add insult to injury about 1/3 mussel shells remained closed. The fourth server who served us then made a mistake asking ‘was everything alright’. She ridiculously pitched the solution to ask the kitchen to prepare another round of mussels!!! ARRGGHHH I reminded her we did not have another hour and a half to wait for more food. It was just as well I was feeling a bit merry after 2 glasses of wine on an empty stomach otherwise my reaction may not have been quite so polite.<br/><br/>The shift manager came over to personally apologise and when I paid the bill she made some significant deductions. Just as well. <br/><br/>Despite downing my alcohol with minimal food, we had to ask for water refills, which only came after asking a second time. Surprisingly my coffee did not come with my dessert and I also had to ask where this was!!! Unbelievable. <br/><br/>The desserts were delightful but the server spoilt the surprise of birthday candles in my friends dessert – by actually asking her if she wanted candles?? When I had already very discreetly bought the candles myself and given to the server on arrival. Go figure.<br/><br/>A very disappointing experience especially as the venue is cool and food was good, but NOT the standard of service I expected for a special occasion.

Now that I work in Takapuna I got the chance to try out Regatta along Takapuna Beach. The food was delightful and atmosphere was bright, fun and lively. The salt and pepper squid (9.5/10, $17.90) was tender with a beautiful crispy batter. The kimchi dressing was just enough to coat the squid, it was creamy and packed with flavour. The seafood chowder (8.5/10, $18.50) was creamy and packed with fresh seafood, though wish there was more bread to accompany the chowder.

Needed a refresher and a bite to eat, and decided to come here.<br/><br/> Staff are a little scrambled here but once they’ve noticed you are very attentive. I really enjoyed the kaarage chicken, the ginger sauce is a beautiful pairing. Fries were decent. <br/> In terms of food I would be excited to sample the rest of the menu. <br/><br/> Plenty of cushions and blankets readily available for you to get comfy, so if you’re looking for nice place to catch up over drinks, give Regatta a go!

My favorite restaurant in takapuna. pretty drinks with the best vies of beach makes me feel free and relax. All the dishes were delicious, staffs were friendly as well.

Great location and love the atmosphere of this place~ The food was not bad either. We had a seafood platter and 2 salads to share between 5 girls. Poke bowl comes with soba noodle tasted very nice~
Mahmoud Mahmoud
Great food. Great view. Possibly the worst service I’ve experienced - rude and other than one very friendly Brazilian man - not a single smile. Apparently a well done steak takes significantly longer to cook
Yasmin Kelani
The food was absolutely great! One of thee best Pan Fried Snappers I’ve ever had. My husband got the Fish & Chips and it was also really really good. However, the service is the absolute worst I have experienced in Auckland. Waiters are extremely rude!!!! My family and I felt like we were disrespected multiple times by the waiters. I honestly don’t know if I’d be back. They really need to train how the waiters how to treat people. Horrible horrible service!<br/>
Yom
Came here for drinks only, got handed the drinks menus and instead of showing us to our seats we were aloud to choose a spot to sit and then told we weren’t aloud to sit there as it was for diners only, but all the seats were empty. A few of the younger girls that approached us during our time here had attitude problems. Drinks were lovely, location is perfect but a shame we weren’t aloud to sit outside as we were only having drinks and not food.
Bayley
Bloody good spot by the beach. Ordered a few oysters which were excellent, and came very quickly. Duck liver parfait was a little bland but cocktails made up for it.
Tan.ned
Messed up our entrees but when they came out, I had no complaints about the taste! The liver parfait and the squid were seasoned really well. Highly recommend for starters. Their Rissoto was kinda raw and under seasoned bit still kinda edible. Their fish dish with the snapper was really good! I didn't have to add more seasoning. Also the lamb was really tender. So 2 it of 3 are good odds.
Anna K
This place has the best outdoor seating for when it’s sunny! The food is awesome. I would recommend the seafood chowder, pan fried market fish and the orere lamb. The drinks list also has a large variety to choose from
Tiffany
Coming today wait for 25 mins no staff come and take an order, we tried waving them a few times and looks like they don’t care much, very disappointing, had to leave as we could not wait longer. Nice view but not sure want to come back
Savannah B
So we waited an hour and a half for food. We had to chase the waitstaff around to ask them what was going on. Obviously they don’t understand the order of service, or how to look after tables. So yeah I had my longest food wait in years for some<br/>Of the most averagely cooked food I’ve ever eaten. I understand that they were understaffed, but at that point the staff should come up to the table and explain what’s going on. I should not have to chase my waiter up and ask if they’ve forgotten our docket. I wish they’d told us earlier because we probably would’ve left to eat somewhere else but it was too late. <br/>The service & food is not worth the stupid price tag. it’s a shame because the Venue is lovely.
Kirstin Lloyd
Went here for lunch on Labour Day; ordered fish & a salad and was quite disappointed. One small piece of fish and a salad that consisted of lettuce, red onion and some cucumber for $23. Overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. Also, serving staff were not very friendly! Won't be recommending or returning.
Sophie Morley
Good looking place with mediocre service. The staff were happy too. Nothing special. One of my plates came cold, but desserts were amazing. Might go there again.
Sukhpreet Kaur
great service, friendly staff and amazing cocktails.. best place to enjoy drinks and food with spectacular view specially on a sunny day.. MUST VISIT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Excellent place, when out in Takapuna definitely check it out. The service was excellent we were in a large group so all things considered they were amazing. <br/><br/>The food was Devine the views spectacular and service all on point top notch service for sure. <br/><br/>I highly recommend the helpful team and also the chefs, compliments all around <br/><br/>My favourite was the crime brûlée <br/><br/>The pork could’ve done with a little more crisp but that’s my own preference.
Harvey 232
We have eaten here many times but were very disappointed in the food today. We had the usual crumbed fish and chips. The fish was very dry, the chips not cooked enough and there were no sides at all. They used to have smashed peas with this meal. It's not cheap at just under $30 so were not happy with the food.
Andy Stephens
Went there in the evening on a Tuesday. Was relatively empty. Which we embraced. Had a few beers and shared the Sandbar. (Fish platter). Cooked lovely. Would recommend and go back again.

We had drinks and nibbles as a group and we enjoyed the dining experience. Excellent service and the staff are friendly. The mango colada was refreshing and the squid was well-seasoned and tender.
Sun Aaron
Poor presentation for food, had steak for $47 and you’ll find its the smallest size steak you have in restaurants in Auckland. 6 lonely chips out aside, no salad with the steak. It’s a bar but quite amateur restaurant. They should try harder on their dish.
Ari Kim
Great service, really nice ambience. Went twice in the last two weeks? I’ve tried the burger and squid salad. Nothing special. We had the spritz which was yummy tho! <br/>
Christina Williamson
had a really good time this afternoon at this place. must visit. the peach mocktail was just too good with dessert !! Highly recommend to anyone :)
Jennymcisaac
My friend and I had a beautiful birthday lunch here yesterday. The food was amazing and the cocktails delicious especially the chilli and ginger one I had. My friend mentioned it was my birthday and the super friendly and helpful Alessandro had the chef make a wonderful chocolate souffle for me and it was on the house. Service was great from everyone who served us. We will be back for some more delicious food and tasty cocktails for sure.
Livvy Gestro
The service was amazing, so caring and going above & beyond to make sure we were happy...although the meal was average. The meat in both the burger & the steak was average. The steak was full of gristle & the burger meat was dry. The Brussel sprouts were charcoal aswell. Pretty disappointed as it was our anniversary & we wanted to go somewhere nice, just a bit disappointed. It was a quiet Tuesday night aswell so it’s not like they were rushing the meal...
Kathy Smith
Had lunch today with friends we shared a couple of platters....the staff were very friendly the atmosphere lovely on a rainy Saturday great company but the food was very disappointing

Regatta WAS my regular place to go on my day offs after lunch to have a wine or beer with friends for catchups but not anymore. I do not recommend people to go there as their service is truly shocking. <br/>A waitress gave us a table by the window for a good view which was nice but as soon as me & my friend ordered drinks only she said we have to move to another side of the restaurant as we are only ordering drinks NOT food. For real???It never happened on my previous visits??? why suddenly?? We got totally shocked by hearing it.....There were plenty of empty tables and seats around our table and  I did not get the point. Customer doesn't get to choose where to seat? If they do have a policy, Hostess or waitress should have asked if we are having food or drinks before taking us to the table. It was around 3 pm on Thursday... not even weekend or full house....restaurant was almost empty. We just got out of the restaurant as soon as we heard, did not want to ruin our day off. Never going back.
Shapeofyou
Poor service. Waited 30mins to be served, asked 3 cup of coffee and waited for 35mins for just 3xcoffees. I was ignored by alot of staff members when standing at the counter waiting to pay.
Saskia Halleen
I met some friends here on Saturday night and we had a lovely bottle (or two) of Pinot Gris before being seated for dinner. The staff were lovely; especially the manager. I had the eggplant entree and the duck main and the only fault I could find was that the duck was lukewarm. Taste-wise the food was phenominal; even the fries that my friend ordred as a side to his steak were delicious. I would definitely come here again.
MrGodHimself
Feels more like a bar than a restaurant. Lots of loud patrons around getting on the booze and being noisey. So don't expect it to be romantic despite the location... Service was good. Biggest letdown was the food.. how do they go so wrong with fish and chips? Especially when charging $29.. chips were covered in something red which the waitresses told us was something to do with how they cook squid in the same deep fryer.. okay. The 'large' portion ($29) included two very small pieces of fish... mine which was crumbed was cold and dry - tasting like one of those frozen then baked rubbish you can get in the supermarket freezers.. and then left to sit there for 15 mins to dry up after cooking. Really disappointing and we will not be returning.
Shelley Tomkins
I’ve never had an outstanding meal here and keep going back because of the wonderful location and lovely decor. Today will be my last visit. I’ve said that after every visit but today was so disappointing being a special Valentine’s Day lunch for two. I had the pan seared snapper which was over cooked dry and flakey. The potatoes and carrots were boiled and bland with no seasoning or flavour. The brown butter and tarragon butter were thick and ugly on the plate. I didn’t wish to send my meal back as I’d then be watching my date eat alone. I expressed my feelings to the maître d who didn’t offer any reparation other than to pass my comments to the kitchen.

We enjoyed our family dinner at this Takapuna seafood restaurant during the summer holidays. Service was friendly and the venue is surprisingly spacious. <br/><br/>There are heaps of drinks to choose from but we settled on the Mojito carafe (non-alcoholic) for our table. While we found it quite sour, it was still refreshing on a warm summer night. Split between 4, you don't get much each – so I'd recommend additional drinks for groups larger than 3 people.<br/><br/>We got the smallest platter on the menu to start (the Monohull platter). I liked the fish cakes, but the prawns were definitely the highlight! Even though the squid is described as ’Szechuan’, it isn’t that spicy – so it’s safe for sharing and tastes best with all the little bits of chilli, crumbs, and oil that sit under it.<br/><br/>We also ordered the avocado and bacon salad to share. It came with croutons and cheese (both in thin wafer form) that added a variety of texture and flavours. Although we could see that orange slices were there for acidity, we didn’t feel it quite worked.<br/><br/>To round out the meal, we got 2 mains to share between the 4 of us. No complaints about the Angus sirloin (200g); it wasn’t bad but wasn’t memorable either. I preferred the roasted hapuka – the texture of the fish was perfect, but the whole dish was a tad salty. The gnocchi that accompanied the fish was nice; soft and a bit charred on the bottom. The foam was a nice touch but didn’t add anything flavour-wise. <br/><br/>Overall, quality of food was pretty good and we were all quite full for about $40 per person (including the drink). Regatta's menu offers a decent range, and looking around at the other tables we noticed that some of the portions were huge – so plenty more reasons to come back here in future!
Peter Webby
Great waitress, atmosphere and location. Food average! Very, very very very stingy on the pork belly although the wife was happy with squid. But Regatta need to up the portions of food, One measly piece of pork, really? Yeah, Nah!
Cam W
Poor service, cocktails made inconsistently (even though we were told they “are measured correctly”).<br/>I don’t know if it was a new team on tonight but if you weren’t ordering a beer things just seem to be to much for the staff to handle.
Brizzle
Have been here 5+ times.<br/>Oysters are ok.<br/>Fish n chips are ok.<br/>Everything else is average.<br/>The last two times the manager has refunded me with a $50 and $30 voucher, as the food wasn’t up to standard
Terence Christy
Have been a regular diner over the last two years & have mostly enjoyed meals at Regatta,<br/>At diner there last night on the 21st /12.<br/>The service staff were unable to get our order correctly, returning twice to confirm. We waited 20 min to receive our drinks as most of the staff stood around talking.<br/>Next minute our stater meal arrived together with our mains. This is after we requested they allow 30min between! <br/>Two other tables around us actually went to the bar to get their own drinks.<br/>Spoke to the manager, he just made excuses for the staff & their poor / lack of service.<br/>The service has become so bad, will not be returning. <br/>Terence

It's a lovely day to be sitting here today. A bottle of sparkling wine with Monohull platter plus a half cray tail; feeling refresh with a friendly service. How could I get away from this in summer days.

Haven't been to Regatta for a while, having convinced my partner, Kristin, to move from Devonport to Titirangi.  Some things have changed but most things have stayed the same.  <br/><br/>Decor is really top notch, especially if you can get a table by the window with great views of the harbour and Rangitoto.  <br/><br/>Takapuna was buzzing, but we had no problem getting a nearby carpark (free) or a good table.  <br/><br/>The Maitre 'd was very welcoming and attentive. While at the bar waiting for the table he came and helped out  - despite a huge range of wine the barman couldn't find a merlot or cabernet merlot, so he sorted an on the spot tasting.  Turned out the house red was a merlot, but, crikey, it was rough so not recommended.  Ended up with a cab sav that was OK. Kristin's glass of sparkling wine was good and fizzy.<br/><br/>Our waitress was outstanding - helpful, professional and relaxed.<br/><br/>As has been our habit at Regatta, we ordered oysters and a range of entrees to share rather than a main.  The oysters were fresh, fat and juicy - perfect!  The cured salmon was OK.  Duck breast perfectly cooked.  Prawns a bit overdone.  The scallop (yes, only one, so bear that in mind!) was the most perfect scallop although the roe had been removed.  Lucky thing that another scallop came with the salmon.  The peppered squid was the stand out for me  - being old school in believing that garnish should be edible, the bed of slad the squid came on was truly complimentary.<br/><br/>We finished up with petit fors that were a bit ordinary, albeit beautifully presented.<br/><br/>Thanks Regatta.

Dined here for our birthday dinner, not a great impression at the start, we were told to take a seat and the menus would follow, we told the staff member where we would be seated so she knew. 5 mins later, a waiter came to us with menus and he goes please let us know before you take a seat!! - found him very rude despite we had told the waitress where we had decided to sit. - didn’t see him for the rest of the evening. <br/><br/>The waiter who then took over, we had great service from him, very friendly and checked on us every now and then. - food was great except for the kumara which we found a little undercooked. - overall turned out to be a good experience, apart from the welcoming.

Gluten free was hand written notes. Salad was lettuce leaves only. Smallest piece of fish I've ever been served. Would not return. Should have known it was bad when it was almost empty.

Relaxed environment, attentive and friendly staff. Can't comment much on food other than their Chunky Fries were great (9/10), worth having again.

Food is fantastic and menu is well rounded.  Lots to choose from and all worth trying. The beautiful views and service is just a bonus to add to the amazing experience.
Amy Hartnell
Ordered the szechuan peppered squid entree and fries on the side. The most flavour this meal had was from the aioli on the side. Szechuan squid was bland and overpriced and the fries were cold and soggy. Disappointing all round.

Regatta has a very nice interior design. It is very clean and tidy. The staff very amazing and very friendly. <br/><br/>I had the lamb rump and ginger mule. the drink was definately the highlight and tasted great. the lamb was cooked medium rare so it was quite tender.<br/><br/>you would expect $40 per person to dine there<br/><br/>overall i would rate it 8/10

Been here on a couple of occasions now. Everything about the food and service wasn't bad, just very average. Prices are on the higher side, but to be expected in Takapuna... but portions are small and nothing 'wow' about the service. Wouldn't go out of my way to recommend but definitely not bad.

Came here yesterday with my girlfriends and we had wonderful and fun night. We didn't make a booking but were seated very quickly when we pop in spontaneously. The waiteress who looked after us was very nice and friendly, attended to our needs immediately when we need it and checked on us very so often without making us feeling awkward. It was a Friday night and the place is crowded, yet they still maintain such service level, this is what I called a high service standard.<br/><br/>I could have given higher rating but was slightly disappointed with the food. We came here for a drink and small bites so we ordered 2 whites, 1 red, 2 smoked salmon and a pork entree. Food were nicely presented but the portion is just too tiny. My salmon was okay but I really dislike the seaweed, tasteless and chew like plastic. They are definately not enough for the night so we got some fries and garden salad. The fries is okay but the aioli or mayonnaise sauce (doesn't taste like either one)tasted so light which is not my favor.<br/><br/>I probably would come back again if I'm catching up with friends at hereby for their service and environment but probably would reconsider if I'm looking for dining.

Positive: ocean views and Creme brûlée. <br/><br/>Else....<br/>Ordered Cured beef sandwich, poor quality meat, tough sandwich bun doesn't come with fries which in my opinion all sandwiches and burgers should for that price. The cured beef had poor presentation just slabbed on my plate, very messy, the Chicken supreme is just one single chicken breast on a plate, no side no salad nothing. <br/><br/>It's good food but nothing special you only pay for the beautiful ocean view else. <br/><br/>I went back next day for dessert and coffee... the crime brûlée was perfect... coffee mediocre , service awful. In my two times going I was served by two rude waiters, snotty, not sure why.

My favorite place to have drinks with friends in a sunny weekend. The location and the view is great. Mocktails and cocktails are super colorful and tasty. The oyster and the squid were very nice and fresh. However I was not impressed with the fish and chips and the prawn. Food is a little bit pricey but make sense because of the location.

We've been for 2 of he wine makers dinners now as well as for Valentine's Day. On each of these very busy times the food and service has been exceptional. No, it's not cheap but given the location and cost of surrounding venues, Regatta is reasonable in comparison.
MariaPia
Great location, great food but service is very poor and understaffed which makes the whole experience tense. We continually had to watch out for the abrupt waiter to serve us, which consumed our relaxed business lunch.
Jo Wickham
Fantastic location. Slow service. Expensive food. Average quality. Enjoyable evening until we were asked to leave table for another booking before we were finished (due to slow service). Left a bad memory from what should have been a happy memorable evening of celebration. Won't be booking here again.

Over rated place .. nice .. but very unfriendly staff..and not such a tasty kitchen. You can meet and see nice and fancy people there. Have a beautiful see view terrace.
Carina Chang
great food there and no surcharge in holiday time. we had woodfired tuna and scotch steak there. Both are great. The seafood platter is so fresh and tasty. <br/>the only thing is about the servant. it's so hard to catch them and they are not around. we just sit there for 10mins to wait the food menu, and another 10mins to wait water and hard to find them to refill.

Enjoyed sitting under somewhere sunny and facing the beach.staffs are friendly and thoughtful.love their Rump and pasta! Will definitely recommend Regatta to all !!

Beautiful ambience and restaurant layout. Felt like I was in the perfect regatta themed eatery! Beautiful decor and good seating layouts! I got the traditional fish and chips, the fish was beautiful and fresh... felt like the batter was overdone, a bit too clunky chunky for my liking, similar thoughts on the oysters too... bit of a let down with the chips too seemed like majority of my chips were over fried or something and wasn't quite up to scratch.

Have been here several times and love it so much!! The setting and ambiance is very relaxed and this goes very well with the coastal menu and beach view. Staff are very attentive and nice. Will keep coming for long to come!!

Sorry to say but my friend and I had the worst service today from the manager/owner there in the afternoon. We both ordered a steak and he asked if we wanted drinks or an entree which we didn't. It was in a forceful manner like we had to order it . Anyway the steak was great so kudos to the chefs they've always been good. I had an entertainment card which I presented to him. You could tell he was not happy about this and made up a stupid excuse saying that he couldn't accept it as it was scratched (meaning used). This was such rubbish as you can see the number and a light scratch is on it due to the number next to it being redeemed. You can look at the photo and judge for yourself. He then proceeded to show us how to properly "scratch the card" . In effect trying to scratch out the number so I wouldn't be able to redeem it. We told him to give the card back and fortunately had another entertainment card set up on the phone so used that one . We look forward to going back and presenting him with more entertainment cards . If you're not happy to redeem it don't put it in the book ! Btw the coupon number should be 30. As you can see all the redeemed numbers are illegible.

Been here several times as has great view of Takapuna beach and handy to work... but... have had some really disappointing experiences. Acoustics are terrible and music too loud so you can hardly hear the person next to you at the table. The menu always looks really appealing but the cooking is awful with terrible seasoning of food and incredibly disappointing meals e.g. Tough fatty meat that you can't chew. Whoever came up with the menu concepts probably had something good in mind as they sound nice but those in the kitchen don't seem to taste what they are cooking or know how to season or balance flavours. Some patchy service experiences too. I would recommend avoiding unless just going there to drink and observe the view and won't be returning myself.

Amazing service from the waiter who served us. We ordered some drinks and the "Sea" Platter. The salmon was to die for!!! So much texture in one palette. The oysters were fresh, and the sauce that paired with it was lemony and garlic-y, it went down a treat! And the king prawns were smoked to perfection, paired with some Cos lettuce on the side as well. I forgot the name of the drink I had but it had a kiwi fruit aroma. Quite strong, but very refreshing. The calamari really hit the jackpot!!! So soft and not chewy at all. They cooked it very nicely and you didn't feel heavy at all; it came in a very good portion! I highly recommend it as a sharing dish...the batter was light and tasty. My friend had the fish and chips and it was delicious! The Tarakihi was fresh and crumbed very nicely. Everything here was amazing. My love and cravings of seafood were definitely met.

Came here on Tuesday night and had the perfect evening. Unfortunately it didn't start off so well it felt like we were forgotten about after we were given menus and a table. We had to ask a waiter for some water and tell them that we were ready to order instead of them offering it to us first thing. We both had the surf n turf with the croquettes on the side. We asked for our steak to be cooked to medium and they were both cooked to our liking. Great atmosphere by the beach. The service afterwards made up for the lack of attention we received in the beginning. Our waiter was lovely.

Great location, comfortable atmosphere and delicious food. <br/><br/>Layout: I love open plan kitchens and adds alot to the vibe. It's a great place for summer sunsets, the decor fits in with the beach vibes. <br/><br/>Price: It's a bit pricey if you take into consideration the mains and sides are seperate items, you'll definitely need to add a veg or a salad to your meal so expect to pay more. We had a voucher which made it easier on the pocket. <br/><br/>The food: The pan seared market fish (orange roughy) was plated well and tasted amazing. We also had the Surf & Turf with wood fired king prawn and rump, it was a tad bit over cooked (asked for medium-rare). It came with this mouth watering smoked sauce I kept dunking my food in. We ordered the vegetables as a side which was kale, broccolini and carrot, quite plain but tasted very fresh and delicious probably because of the butter ;)<br/><br/>Service: well looked after, no complaints<br/><br/>Overall experience was great and definitely <br/>something you have to go try out. Thanks to my dining companion Vinny Cistrone. for the good company ;)
Nick The Greek
A great location and well laid out but it lacks a bit of character. The menu is quite pricey for what is on offer. Good place for drinks , but better options out there in the area to eat.
Restaurant Assassin
Great location and fitout especially for sun downers 4.5/5. The food is relatively pricy. The food quality is mixed but generally fairly average 3.5/5. Menu is fairly uninspired and as others have have pointed out the platters are a waste of time 3/5. Service is good inside but if you want to sit in the sun in the afternoon you may as well cook the food yourself 2/5.
MrsSelwyn
Went there for quick lunch today. Friendly staff and awesome food! Great view of the beach! We had the wagyu beef burger and the woodfire Scotch steak on bone. Amazing and will be back again
Rachel Goodchild
If we were rating on food alone I would have rated it 4.5-5 <br/>However our lovely dinner was marred by being served by a supercilious waiter who is either rude to everybody or made the call that our group was not "regatta" material<br/><br/>I had hoped the snob factor had disappeared from quality dining experiences but sadly it seems it has not. <br/><br/>If we could be assured of good service we would recommend the food but no matter the quality, we left with a nasty taste in our mouth<br/><br/>Disappointing
John Bone
While the location is great, with a view towards Takapuna beach, the food my friend and I had was poorly cooked. I ordered duck and she ordered wood fired fish of the day (tuna). My duck was very tough and over salted. It came with two slices and small wing, I literally had to saw through the slices as the skin was to dry and tough. The leg was more soft and juicy but the outside had been heavily salted - far too much salt. I also tried some of the tuna - very little smoky flavour and was also tough on the outside - possibly seared far too hot. While we both decided not to complain, the meal was sub standard.  I would not go back here for the food at all, but might stop for a cold drink for the view. Meal sizes are small for the price.
Bright One
We've been to there twice. The food was good at our first visit but the Indian man at the counter was a bit annoying. The food was average at our second visit and that Indian man was a bit pushy to sell us some dessert which we already told him that we didn't want.
Ag
Just awful. 45 min wait for food, asked to put a credit card behind the bar as if we would run out, no cold rose, food was average. On giving this feedback to the manager as we left we were given the impression he couldn't care less, and were told it was because they were fully booked (despite the restaurant being more than half empty). As a visitor to Auckland this left a pretty bad impression of the city's hospitality standards!
Rosalind Slater
Lovely views and location but really let down by its food. Staff were ok, could have been a little friendlier.<br/>My childrens fish and chips were over cooked which was the same as last time we dined here and the fish tasted cheap and nasty.<br/>Our sea platter to share was overpriced and spartan. Dissapointing experience , we won't be back .
STRADS
It's my first time at Regatta & we had a bit of trouble finding the exact location.  We started with both natural & battered oysters from Clevedon. For the mains, we had smoked duck breast & confit leg, pan-seared snapper, pan-roasted lamb loin, and surf & turf with prawns & eye fillet. Food, in general, was nicely cooked & plated (apart from the slightly over-seasoned duck). One of the wait-staff was a fairly inefficient - having completely forgotten about our request for  small plates & not responded to water-refilling request. (Food - 3.5/5; Service - 3/5; Ambience - 4/5)
Olivia Coleman
The setting is really nice by the water, however, the bar area was more busy than the restaurant and it was difficult to hear.  Some of the dishes were very good, prawns and tuna, cheese board was very disappointing.  A small piece of cheese with a huge serving of chutney and piled high with crispy toast.  Expensive considering fairly basic fair.
Jessica
Location is great and design layout of this place is really nice. I like places where you can see the open plan kitchen. The food to me was underwhelming. My mum and I decided to share the sea platter as it sounded like lots of things were on the menu and that's all we would need. Turns out we were very mislead...it was tiny and I could have eaten it all to myself not shared between 2 people...we left still very hungry and decided we won't bother coming back.
Maddie
Absolutely love this restaurant. The manager let us sit on the other side of the restaurant away from everyone else which was nice, he was super friendly and informative. My fiancé ordered the crumbed snapper, chips and mushy peas. The fish was cooked perfectly, flaked away and the crumb was crispy and very well seasoned. I ordered the chicken supreme with potato gnocchi. The chicken was moist and went perfectly with the semi-sun dried tomatoes. The gnocchi was a little bit bland but over looked it seeing as the rest of the meal was absolutely delicious. Very reasonable pricing and we look forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu!

Location is fantastic. Overlooking Takapuna beach and perfect cone Rangito island.<br/>We visit regatta bar frequently once a week ! <br/>Food is great <br/>Consistently fantastic service, food ad drink suggestion from Yatin. He always make us feel comfortable and a good laugh. <br/>Wonderful staff personality- Monique , ken , ruby list goes on - <br/>

Dined here for dinner and food was poor, lacking in quality and overpriced. Dinner service was also very slow. The wine list was good but very pricy. Great location and ambiance by the water, however would not recommend for dining.

We went here for a nice meal out in the evening.  This place is bustling, and if you are coming here in a group, its a good idea to book.  The Surf and Turf dish is the main dish of steak and prawns which were excellent - it would be advisable to order a vegetable side dish with this - a little expensive without a full plate.  The fish and chips were delish, and also a good idea to order a salad with this, if you order a smaller size.  The entrees looked good too, and in hindsight feel we should have ordered these.  We enjoyed our desserts, which were beautifully presented brulees'.  We had excellent service during our meal. and the restaurant is beautifully set up, in a light open airy space overlooking the sea.

Irmarie is super cute, food is pretty good as well.  <br/>Been there four times since it opened, never had a bad meal. As an added bonus my father designed the roof of the complex, so you know it's fairly safe.
Abigail Jones
Beautiful venue with views out to water and Rangi.  All the staff were fantastic.  Food was amazing.  Kids were well looked after.  Faultless fabulous dinning experience.  Excellent wine selection.  Thank you very much!

Fantastic service Yatin was outstanding. Made us laugh he had great personality but more importantly his service was fast and effective. Great suggestion and good fun.

Food is expensive for the quality and quantity <br/>It's also very very hot inside the restaurant <br/>Staff are very pleasant <br/>Food is slow to arrive after being ordered <br/>MaitreD is not great <br/>Does not listen at all

Came here on a Saturday night at 7pm without booking, they were pretty empty so got a table easily. Food was very slow to come out considering how many ppl were in the restaurant and we only ordered calamari and king prawns. These are hardly things that take more than a few minutes to cook. <br/><br/>Many ppl who came in after us were fed before us. Food was over priced. <br/><br/>Wouldn't come here again.
Misti Carroll Landtroop
My daughter & I have been here a few times and the food, service and atmosphere never disappoints! Today my cheeky little monkey spilt my almost full glass of wine all over me and our table and the staff quickly set us up at another table AND brought me a new wine (unprompted & no charge!) Fish & Chips, kumura bread, duck pate, scotch fillet...just a few of the yummy things we've enjoyed at Regatta! We will definitely be back! Keep up the good work!
KT
Really disappointing.<br/><br/>We've been here twice, once on a girls night for drinks and platters, and another for lunch with the family. Both times the service was terrible and the food was very average. Bit of a waste for such an amazing location.
Kenneth Blackburn
I found the food and the service quite acceptable though perhaps a bit overpriced.  I take serious issue with the noise from the adjacent bar coupled with a lack of soft floor covering or linen cloths which made conversation almost impossible at the table.  For that reason alone I shall not return, In addition...the lighting is so low you are unable to read the menu.A pity as I have enjoyed lunchtime there on other occasions.  Evening dinner is another matter and could not be recommended.
Thomas
Staff was friendly and quick in service. We went there for some drinks only (1 month ago). The atmosphere is bit cold so was the room temperature. Freezing cold outside but they kept a door open so there was a chilly draft. <br/>Will be back in summer :)
Arpita Mandal
One of the worst hosted restaurant in town least i haven't come across any in a while.<br/><br/>A really impolite and rude host was at the door for seating us. He had a disgruntled look and grumpy behavior. Seemed like he doesn't fancy what he does, what a pity!<br/><br/>That kind of abruptness... seriously spoilt our Friday night. However the wait staff tried to make our evening as comfortable and warm as possible.<br/><br/>The highlight of the restaurant is its ambience and location.<br/>Won't rate the food and service very highly, we have experienced much elite service and food in past. <br/> <br/>
Tony Smith
Great staff and service. Had a largish group of us and everyone enjoyed the evening. Would recommend this place. Atmosphere was excellent. Would eat here again
Kknightnz
The food is below average. This place is about drinking but needs to provide food to justify having a liquor license. Had salmon twice. Smelled and tasted awful. Smoked chicken may as well have been smoked bootlaces (not that i eat those too often!)<br/>So avoid it unless you are too drunk to notice.<br/>Went to sister restaurant in cbd (crew club) and had undercooked chicken 2 times. So at least they are consistent!<br/><br/>What a b/s response from management. They had a business lunch special 2 courses with smoked chicken and smelly salmon and the manager pretends i got the wrong restaurant!!! Its a very average restaurant (crystal not noticeable) for food and the crew club is no better. <br/>

great place for catch-ups. Love the atmosphere and service is consistently good. No complaints about the drinks. Food (dinner)- average and somewhat overpriced. Had dinner here on two occasions, what had let me down was the pumpkin ravioli from a few weeks ago which felt more like a entree than a main, was oilier than it needed to be, and tasted bland. Overall though I like this place for the service, views and interior deco making it an excellent chill spot by the beach but wont be back for the food.
Victoria Elizabeth Oldfield
I went to regatta last week with a friend and we were both quite disappointed. The place itself is beautiful and has a great location but the food and service were average, especially considering the price. Staff came and took our starters away while we literally still had bread in our mouths and weren't done yet. The food was cold when it arrived and fries completely undercooked and very bland, like oven fries. The service was ok but a bit over the top, it's nice to be left to enjoy the meal rather than be checked on every five minutes. Overall, not the worst place I've been to but wouldn't ever go back when there are so many other great places in Auckland
Lovely Maralit
It was great dining here, love the food and the view :) the oysters is definitely something to try. I had the steak and my friends had the fresh catch of the day. Service was great on top of it all :)
Christine
Firstly, the location is spectacular and the Waiting staff are very attentive. I had the steak, which was cooked to perfection. The potato gratin was also delicious. With our meal we ordered vegetables (broccoli) and chunky fries sides. The house made ketchup that came with the fries really was addictive. Shared dessert as we couldn't even finish the main so it was more curiosity than anything, has the French apple tart, yum! Nice pastry and complemented the slightly tart apple with sweet sauce. It was not a cheap meal, so you expect good quality ingredients that have had some love and attention. I think that the chef achieved this making it an enjoyable evening.
Foodie Chronicles
I went here a few weeks ago with some friends and wasn’t overly impressed. I thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was. I can’t quite remember what the meal was called but it was chicken and a type of coleslaw. Majority of the meal was just coleslaw. Not good value for money. My friends meals did look better though so might consider giving it another chance one day with a different dish.

One of the best locations I. Takapuna, with good food and remarkable service.<br/><br/>Regatta has a good menu, with several options for different tastes.<br/><br/>I had a swordfish with vegetables and potatos.<br/><br/>The taste was good and the fish was well cooked, but I have to say that it's a bit expensive.<br/><br/>$40 for a lunch (main + sparkling wate) is too much, in any case, but specially if consider that the best restaurants (and Regatta is not one of them) in the city give u the same (or more) for the same price.
Tony Ma
It has been a very long time since a restaurant has impressed me to the fullest.<br/><br/>From entry you feel free and can breathe effortlessly with the view of the blue sky and sea. <br/><br/>The staff greeted us right away and seated us promptly. The 0% alcohol cocktails are delicious. Full marks no doubt. <br/><br/>The pork scotch and scotch on bone cooked perfectly. Scotch on bone cooked on flame with a nice bbq tang to it. Devine. <br/><br/>I cannot praise this restaurant enough, and found completely no flaws at all. I will be back within he next week even if it's a 30 min drive from my place. <br/><br/>Food Quality: 5/5<br/>Food Quantity: 5/5<br/>Environment: 5/5<br/>Wait time: 5/5<br/>Price Range: $45pp

Nice view and food. The service was very slow. 1 hour to take food orders, 15 minutes to clear empty plates, we gave up waiting for water and grabbed a jug from the staff area ourselves. The starter portion size was large, mains were small and fairly pricey
Anastasia Kadir
Good view from here, directly to the beach. Takapuna is always my fave place in sunny day. <br/>The food was good. I especially love the sea platter, good combination, seafood are fresh. For the main, it was okay, nothing really special, just the normal steak like any other restaurant.
Tyanna Smythe
Went in for lunch the other day with my family, the floor staff gave excellent service. Especially cindy? who was very onto it and gave us great recommendations. To my disgust all I could hear throughout my lunch was the chef yelling at the staff. This was very unprofessional and embarrassing.
Sophie-fern Wright
Thought this would be a nice spot for lunch on such a beautiful day! Ordered drinks and the kumara bread as a starter! The bread came after 40 minutes of waiting. The mains came another 10 mins after this. Super average food. Crap service! How can it take 40 mins to get some drinks? The waitress wasn't super apologetic instead she looked at me although I was rude for asking. <br/>Regardless of the view, Regarta was over priced, bad service and super average food.
Sam Papworth
We have been here a few times in the past for drinks. The setting and the decor is nice, and the location in relation to the beach is ideal. However we have found the service to be a bit hit and miss - sometimes it is very friendly and other times we are sat waiting for ages to be served. Also the music is too loud. Most recently we came here and ordered a mango juice and a draught beer. The juice was nice however I'd be disappointed if anyone could mess one up! The beer didn't taste great.... could be from the bottom of the barrel? We would come here again for a drink purely for the location, probably not for food though given recent reviews.
Ralf Klis
Unfortunately very very disappointing. It's a good bar with very nice drinks. And that's it. The steak I got was worse than the bar food. Considering $35 price tag I would expect better than half of the steak edible. I wanted to complain to the staff but during over an hour we spent there we had to beg for the service as the staff was either chatting or literally turning away (possibly because they saw half eaten steak and the rest full of veins and fat). Pak n Save steak would have been better quality.<br/><br/>Very overpriced very average food with unacceptably bad staff. They're all very young so can't blame them but surely for this price this restaurant can afford better chef and better waiters (they all look school age).
Qui
I went here with my friends. <br/>The staff who serve us was quite nice. But the food was average. <br/>Their price was high compared to the quality of the food.
Thegreeats
When we walked in, we did not expect the menu to be focused so much on meats + seafood, our fault for not checking!<br/>So we just ordered the platter<br/>For the price we were expecting bigger portions <br/>But quality was top notch- quality over quantity is what rules in here<br/>Everyone was fresh and delicious<br/>We had to order side of chips as it was small<br/>Next time, we would like to try more of their menu<br/>Fabulous location and interior

Scotch fillet on the bone: beautifully charred etc but rather tough. Accompanied by a Bearnaise sauce heavy with tarragon. Not so nice. <br/>Roasted King fish - tasty. Just right. Accompanied by crab filled cannelloni; horrible. I added salt and pepper, but it still tasted liked plain canned crab. <br/>We did not comment or complain to our delightful waitress, because she tried her best, but really had only a slight grasp of English. No point really. <br/>We used our Entertainment deal and were pleased at the discounted cost for the evening. <br/>Probably won't return.

Whenever I go to Takapuna I always suggest this restaurant for I like this place's open-free-flow spacious layout overlooking the beach.  The dish is always fresh and well presented.  I had SZECHUAN PEPPERED SQUID, which was delicious. My daughter had Beef Burger, which was just right. My son had King Prawn as main ($28.90).  The dish looked ridiculously small comparing to other dished, 4 small prawns with some tomato pesto.  I questioned our waiter about it.  We were given a shrug.  In the end I had to order a Beef Burger for my son as well.
Inge
Excellent, great food and awesome service, perhaps best service I have experienced in NZ. The food is value for money and the staff is happy advising.
Went there for dinner with a group and was disappointed to discover that there are no vegetarian options either on the entree or mains menu. The waitress suggested I order a salad, which I wasn't keen on, as I was there to eat and wanted a main, so she went to fetch a more senior staff member, who also suggested I order a salad. When I asked her how difficult it would be to include one vegetarian main option on the menu, she suggested I order some pasta from the kids menu (I am 36) as 'we don't have any tofu in the kitchen'. As everyone knows, vegetarians eat tofu with every single meal, otherwise we die or turn into plants or something. In the end I went for an artichoke salad. We all had to wait 50 minutes for our food, and mine took an extra 10 minutes, because I guess artichoke salads are really, really hard to make (or maybe it was punishment for questioning the menu options). I had company in my wait though, as another person at our table had received the wrong meal and had to send his back. In the end the salad was pretty average, and full of weird tasteless burnt things which I guess might have been 'harissa crunch'? They tasted like scrapings from the inside of the oven. Never setting foot in that place again. Avoid, especially if you don't eat meat.

Amazing location but the food needs some improvements.. We've been to Regatta three times, once for brunch, lunch & afternoon drinks. The best experience would have to be drinks as the location is pretty sensational and the cabanas are perfect for lazing in the sun drinking Espresso Martinis. Unfortunately the brunch and breakfast menus didn't deliver, the baked eggs were well over cooked and under seasoned and the ciabatta served burnt without butter. The eggs bene was OK although the sauce was a little bland and served on a BAP not an English muffin as described. Can't fault the location, the staff are polite and the outdoor areas are all dog friendly.<br/>

Really awful service. I thihk they are still unable to get a hang on this idea of good service. And food is questionable and nothing special. Nice view but you'd rather go to the beach for a view. Don't<br/>Combine the two : atmosphere and food, if yo I can't do it right.

As soon as we entered the restaurant on a Sunday's evening, we were allocated to our seat but when we requested for the seat that we wanted, the staff rejected out request . Soon after our dining, we witness another walk in customers who went for that seat without any hesitation, so it was a bad impression on their customer service. Luckily that changed after we were served by another friendly staff who were tipped by us in the end. <br/>In term of the food and atmosphere, it was fabulous. We have a dozen of oyster for our entree which tasted fresh and juicy. For our main, we have scotch on the bone and surf and turf which tasted unique different and delicious. It paired perfectly with a bottle rose and the sunset view looking at Takapuna beach. Both, The food and location of the restaurant created beautiful atmosphere and I really enjoyed the overall dining experience. So i would highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic date.

Great spot in front of takapuna beach and the corner of two other eateries . We sat outside the deck area and had the beef burger and aubergine salad with a cocktail and beers to wash it down catching the late afternoon sun which was brilliant. Only note smoking is allowed outside and we are non smokers so can be annoying for some who patrons so had to tolerate it as the sunshine was just too nice to move inside... Staff were very attentive and friendly too so we will definitely be back in the future !

Pretty average unfortunately. Tomato pasta sauce tasted straight out of tin. Kids fish and chips ok but fish wasn't what you would call generous. My (expensive) burger was tasteless. Even worse 1/2 of the party was raw and cold still. Chips were standard for fish and chip shop, ie nothing special. Cold beers but limited selection. Great location and service was good. Won't be back

Great ambience, nice views from the deck, awesome customer service. The food was really tasty, drinks were really good too! Totally recommend the mocktail menu. Really refreshing! A must go restaurant!

Lovely location and the food was good but unfortunately the service was terrible.<br/>We arrived at 1 and were served drinks and told the staff we would be ordering food. That would be the last we saw of any wait staff. It took 45 mins to get our food ordered (with is approaching the staff and asking to be served)<br/>We were not approached once after the initial order ,to ask for more drinks or food. I can understand that it can be this way if it is busy but, the Staff were not busy at this time and the restaurant was relatively empty . A lot of them were huddling around the other side of the restaurant chatting and laughing away.<br/><br/>It's a shame as the food and location , as earlier stated where good.

We<br/>had a fantastic experience with the Regatta Team.  Attentive, but not<br/>overbearing.  The food was superb, and we ended up having a very long<br/>lunch as none of us were eager to leave.  We will use Regatta Bar &<br/>Eatery again.<br/><br/>Thank<br/>you & Merry Christmas

Great location and service but unfortunately the food as mirrored here by many other reviews is sub standard.<br/>Quality ingredients were used but the execution was poor.<br/>$9 for probably the most average fries i have encountered in years is unacceptable.Rancid crayfish butter was a waist.Overcooked, under seasoned Sirloin was sacrilege.<br/><br/>Would pop back in for a beer on a summer's day, but would avoid the food as it's an expensive disapointment.

I love regatta because of the location and the restaurant atmosphere; it's really pumping in there and has a beautiful view of Takapuna beach. It is the perfect place for after work drinks with friends. Though, I would say that the food is quite average and could be easily replicated - If I was judging this review on food alone then I would probably give the food a 3/5. However, the over all experience was a great one and I will be venturing back this summer :)

So I've tried this place three times now and FFS it lets me down every time with disappoint. Great spot for a drink with a friends the view of Takapuna beach is great, but the food is average (you know it's bad when the hot chips taste rough) it's a shame as it should be of top quality. The Tuna Tataki wasn't too bad but every other meal I've had was a let down.

Great venue; tragic service. We could have walked away without paying our bill if we were dishonest, but we didn't. No system in sight to take account of table numbers or orders on a Friday evening. We were wondering if you had to go grow the hops to fill our single order of Heineken. When we tried paying, another waitress stepped in, but rather than serving us, who were next in line, you effectively queue jumped and took someone else's payment. Don't you realise that this is just plain rude?! We tried again, this time at the bar, and after several attempts at trying to locate our order, your bartender had to sheepishly admit there was no system in place. This is basic, people! Tragic tragic tragic.

Smashing new restaurant in a great location - perfect place to have lunch on a sunny day.  Took visiting friends from the UK here on Fri 27th Nov and none of us were disappointed with either the choice or the quality of the food on offer.  The service from the young staff was very good, and the food - quality, quantity and presentation did not disappoint.  The only complaint was that it was a little on the pricey side - but hey, it is in Takapuna, the rich man's playground!  Will certainly go again on a special occasion.  :-)

Great location and deco, was excited to have dinner out on the deck for a lovely evening. We were seated outside and served a starter and drinks. It started to rain so we moved inside to be told we needed a reservation and were then left at the bar. Took a while for anyone to take our orders. However when served the waitress was lovely. I'm not a big seafood fan like my partner so ordered the fish and chips. The fish wasn't as great as I thought it was going to be and the chips were just average like ones from a cheap fish and chip shop. Was disappointed considering the price of the fish and chips I was expecting something a little more gourmet or out of the box perhaps. My partner ordered the market fish (tuna) he loved it but was very hungry afterwards as the portion was small and delicate but was sort of expected I guess. I had a lovely evening with my partner but I don't think I will be coming again.

We were shown to our table and offered drinks straight away. Great.<br/>Then it went downhill..... We were left sitting at the table for over 30 mins whilst tables around us were being served, some even had arrived after us.<br/>Finally once being served, the maitre d didn't even apologise for taking his sweet time..<br/><br/>Poor service just really shits me, and shouldn't happen<br/>

This was our second visit to Regatta and the food and atmosphere was just as great as the first time ... but what I really noticed was the friendliness and positive attitude of the staff.  They actually seem to be enjoying their job and that is something I haven't seen for a while.  Well done Regatta for looking after your staff and choosing great people, it makes a difference!

I Love This place. I went there one sunny Sunday afternoon and was amazing. You can sit in the deck outside looking the beach, is really cool. The people that work there are nice too. I will comeback for sure.

The place was really nice with several outdoor areas to choose. The service was good. We had coffee and dessert. The coffee was average. but the chocolate fondant was astonishing!!! (but it was pricey)

Venue, location, decor and service is great.<br/><br/>Food was alright; we had the fish and chips, snapper market fish, surf and turf and salmon with a seafood platter. Everything was okay but considering the price eg 29$ for fish and chips or ~35$ for a steak, I expected a lot more. The steak was tough and chewy for a rare sirloin; it was pretty meh.<br/><br/>The seafood platter for ~50$ was okay; three oyster (for 4people...), some salmon slices and tuna tataki in the usual pureed sauce and watercrest or some leady decoration as a filler - nothing to rave about I'm afraid. I recommend getting another main for the price or ordering separate entrees instead.<br/><br/>Desserts were okay but again very small and mediocre considering a whopping ~15$ each.<br/><br/>Feels like we paid for the venue and location more than the food; <br/>Three overpriced Yums.

A group of 10 of us tried Regatta last night. The restaurant is beautiful inside, the location is wonderful (though a little hard to find if you don't know the area) but none of us were too impressed with the menu. The "build it up" is confusing and some of us were disappointed with the limited seafood selection. Yes, it's a seafood restaurant. But if you wanted wood fired, it had to be tuna, if you wanted roasted it had to swordfish - neither of which I like - and if you wanted snapper it had to be pan fried. That was the limit of choices, except for a salmon main (which everyone in town offers) and you could add prawns or crayfish, etc to other options. But everyone found something to order and most were happy with their choices. But I can only review what I had and I was most unhappy. Particularly because I spent $44 and went home hungry! Really hungry, in fact.<br/><br/>I chose to have the squid entree with a build it up of prawns and a side of steamed vegetables. I wasn't very hungry to begin with and since every other restaurant in town is very generous with squid entrees, and with sides of veges, it should have been enough. But what I got was an amount of squid that would fit in the palm of my hand, three prawns (and not very big ones). And the veges! For $11 I got a few broccoli florets and and a bunch of kale. I don't consider kale to be an option in steamed veges, that's a salad vegetable. If it had been added to a nice pile of broccoli, cauli and carrots, then I would have been happy. But it was the main component.<br/><br/>Add to that my squid tasted nothing like what was described on the menu. It was supposed to be Szechuan spiced but tasted like plain boiled squid. There was a sauce, but it was tasteless. I was going to order either cheese or a dessert after, since I was still very hungry. But it was $15.50 for one cheese, the same for dessert, and I was afraid I would just spend more and get another tiny portion.<br/><br/>Some of our group were happy with what they ordered. But it's not enough for a restaurant of this price and calibre to have only some things that are good. Everything on the menu should satisfy and many of us did not feel that way. So if go, beware portion sizes, and ask a lot of questions.

Great location and super friendly staff with a cool calm interior! Food was good but not amazing... And considering the price a bit out of proportion.<br/><br/>Have been here a few times to drink but this was my first meal here.. We had the lamb and OP steak (650g). Lamb was tender and goats cheese ball on the side was tasty... The steak was a bit over cooked for medium rare but still tasty... But for $48 for a steak I guess we expected more!<br/><br/>Will try again as vibe and service good, might just look to order something cheaper next time!

Went to this place on Saturday night - they had tables available and the menu looked tempting.  However not an enjoyable experience.  The food was OK but overpriced for what we got and the service received.  Don't order the laphroig infused mustard - its is just whole grain mustard put into a tiny dish.  This was mentioned to the wait staff and on paying, but was met with a shrug and nothing further (they should have least have gone back to the kitchen and asked the chef. The oysters were not turned, the tuna was slightly overcooked and a little rubbery to eat, but they got the lamb right.  Better value, food and service on the other side of the bridge.  Would not recommend the venue at all.

We went to this place on Saturday night. There was plenty of car parking available so it was pretty easy to get our space. The place is quite new (they just opened on February of this year) and modern with a wide variety of food and drinks. It's quite spacious, comfortable and the staff are very friendly with a positive attitude. We ordered prawns, a pan fried snapper, mushrooms, green salad and a roasted Hapuka. To finish the night we had Pear and Cinnamon Bombe Alaska and a rich Chocolate Foundant. Food was really good, well presented, flavoured and it was delivered quite fast. They took one of our orders wrong and we had to reorder again. However that didn't spoil our dinner experience once they fixed the issue very quickly and we could enjoy the other meals on the mean time. We really liked this place and will definitely get back on another opportunity. As an improvement on the customer experience, I would encourage managers to train the staff to be a little bit more detail oriented when placing new orders. Taking that aside, I would strongly recommend this place to anyone in Takapuna looking for a lunch, dinner, drinks or a quick snack.

This place is huge and the toilets are very nice, clean, and high tech.<br/><br/>I had the seared tuna and asked for it to be barely seared. What I got instead was heavily seared tuna which tasted awful. Imagine canned tuna with a slightly less overcooked consistency with a sprinkling of salt. That's how bad it was and I highly regret picking it over the sirloin which looked average, but was probably still much nicer.<br/><br/>Desserts were sickly sweet. The creme catalana was very delicious though.<br/><br/>Serving sizes are very small.<br/>A lot of mixed feelings about this place given that it cost $110 for just myself. Crazy.<br/><br/>Food: 5/10<br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Ambience: 4/5<br/>Value: 1/5<br/>Overall: 14/25

Last saturday i went here and had Fish and chips and tap bear, cappucino. Firstly, the manager was so kind and sweet. Second, the view of sea was breath taking. Thirdly, tap beer was beatiful. Finally, toilet was clean it is important to me. If i fancy relax, i will go there again.

Walking along the beach front today regatta was least busy. For that reason alone we decided to have brunch here.very quickly offered a table on the deck. Being a beautiful day we were glad to be able to bask in the sunshine. Offered water but chose the still as I knew sparkling would come with a price tag. I'm not sure how to really take this place. Outside was full of people but inside was empty. Decor is lovely, crisp and nautical and wait staff are very friendly and professional. Waitress knew the specials and presented the choices. Not being Super hungry I chose the chargrilled artichoke heart salad with grilled harass and watercress. First of all, I counted barely one leaf of watercress. I though I had been given a side salad. Nearly $20 for a tiny salad was shocking. Friend ordered the salmon bite size which was indeed so. We ordered a side of olives. While I appreciate the food is very fresh, using quality ingredients. I think the value is lacking and now I see why regatta was empty compared with the cafes next door. For this reason alone I doubt I'll be back. Menu was certainly interesting but I expected more bang for the buck. Sadly did not deliver. Nearly $60 for our few items and 2 non alcoholic drinks.

Went to Regatta for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't that busy but there were lots of waiting, cold food and unprepared (but really friendly) staff. Awesome location and lots of potential. Manager apologised and gave us a discount. Might go there again.

First time going to this bar and it was awesome. Really friendly staff and the drinks were great! Although it did take a while for the drinks to come out. The location was amazing! Perfect for a summers day. I will definitely be going back and recommending it to my friends and family!

Sunday brunch with the boys - who were pretty set on something 'with a beer' (I think that, translated, means fish and chips or burgers, or pizza, but I know better than to ask for specifics!!) <br/><br/>Light, bright, beachy feel - we grabbed a spot on the deck overlooking the water - we set about relaxing - the menu had us covered.....<br/><br/>'fish and chips' (fish either battered or crumbed) and 'paua burger with pulled pork' while I had a really stunning rendition of Sardines on Toast...<br/><br/>We left feeling like we had, had a little snatch of Summer!!
Lily
I'm not sure how to define this place. It's not exactly a bar. It is open from 11.30 am to 8.30-9.00 pm. The place is so big. Nice design. Expensive food, and the expense doesn't match the quality. Waiters are quick and polite. Bathrooms are clean!!!!!!! The drinks, well, let's just say: average.
Russell Green
This a summer venue, and a great place for a drink in the evening. However it is cold, drafty and uninviting on colder winter/spring evenings, too big a space. Food is expensive, probably because of the position and quality does not match the price. Main courses need side dishes as a complement. Two of us had tuna which was dry and not very nice ( as a result of being overcooked and perhaps no longer fresh). They need to learn from restaurants like Swashbucklers how to cook and present fresh tuna otherwise it should not be on the menu. They also ripped us off on a promotion offered through a charity entertainment book. The offer was buy one main course and get one free. We were two couples three of us had mains which cost $36.50 ( plus anor $9.50 for each side dish ) and one had a small $19 course. We made the mistake of paying all four together and they would only deduct the $19 course. If the two of us had paid separately for ourselves ( we both had the expensive mains) they would have had to accept our voucher and deduct a $36.50 course but they refused to see the logic. We are locals who have promoted the position to others and taken visitors to Auckland there but as a result of their attitude won't be back for a meal or give a recommendation anymore. Misplaced arrogance and PR on part of the management. Otherwise service was attentive and delivery of meals prompt.

LAMB RACK<br/>pressed belly / goat’s cheese and black olive bonbon / fennel / salsa verde / confit tomato / almond crunch<br/><br/>Well what can I say the Lamb rack was cooked to perfection combined with the goats cheese., salsa verde and a slither of tomato was a dance of taste on my tongue. Service was great constantly looked after yet not harassed to the point of annoyance. Personal preference I haven't acquired a taste for pressed lamb belly. But was enjoyed by a friend dining with. Thumbs up Regatta pricing perfect you pay for the level of food and service. Highly recommend

Regatta Bar and Eatery is what Takapuna has been missing.  Fabulous setting with pretty much uninterrupted view of the beach and water.  The Restaurant has a modern fresh nautical feel.<br/><br/>This was our 2nd visit, both at lunchtime so at this stage I am unable to comment on the night time experience.  On both visits the restaurant has been quiet (being during the week and not peak time) so seating was immediate with a great choice of tables (different sections offer different feel.  <br/><br/>We opted for the Business Lunch which on memory was $40 for starter and main including a glass of Mumm bubbles. There was a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains, my chosen starter was not available (run out of squid) so I was able to have the outstanding Duck Parfait which is my favourite, then a sirloin with béarnaise and chunky fries. My husband had salmon to start then fish of the day. All the dishes were presented very nicely and were equally as tasty.  My steak was cooked to perfection.<br/><br/>Lovely staff, great menu and dishes.  The music was fab!  <br/><br/>I look forward to coming back again at night which I suspect will be a completely different atmosphere and hopefully I will be able to rate it a 4.5.

You're paying for the place and service. Food I felt was so so, price wise it's expensive. BE WARNED: We were asked to choose tap or sparkling water, my friend chose sparkling water for us. Little did we know it would cost us $10 for the sparkling water eeep! Friend ordered the fish and chips, it wasn't bad. I ordered the chowder - I wished I didn't. I've had better seafood chowder. This would be a beautiful place for summer night dine - but I do wish they would up their game for their food. <br/><br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Ambiance: 4.5/5<br/>Service: 4/5

I love this place. Great food, great service, great view. The lunch express menu is brilliant value for money, this place will be the best spot in summer!

First time at Regatta so had high expectations. It was ok but for the quality we all felt it is a bit overpriced. Decor is nicely themed but a bit sterile for an expensive night time restaurant especially the bare wooden chairs although to be fair they were surprisingly comfy. Waitress was very nice and did her best to look after us. We had a small issue with the meals but they addressed them quickly and were apologetic. Probably not going to rush back.

Highlight. Beautiful Interior design and Takapuna beach views.<br/>Ideal for : Special date or Friends Dinner out<br/>Food : Wood fire prawns and Sirloin.<br/>Food was well presented and clean, prawns where delicius , I liked the red saouce, meat was ok no delicious and tasty as I was expected, my partner asked for Medium Rare and he got Medium and I asked for Medium and I got Medium Well. Anyways we eat all.<br/>The place is beautiful and looks like the type of restaurants everybody wants to

What a cool atmosphere. Loved the fish themed fit out with the open kitchen. Food was good. I was with someone who had been there before and loved it the first time. But she did order the same thing and felt 'it just wasn't the same, second time round'. Reasonably priced for kids (approx $20 dinner and dessert) and offered colouring in, which is always a plus! Staff where helpful. It was a Sunday night, not too busy but steady. Probably a good night to dine if your curious, as I can see that this place will be 'the place to be' during summer with its great views and dinning layout.

Love this place. Great for kids and good seafood options. Finally a place in Auckland that incorporates life by the sea. The open kitchen and the friendly waiters make it perfect.
Tom Monks
inedible kale haloumi salad .  soaked in oil . kale was just 4 pieces of dried packet chip kale ...  the fish for 29 dollars was old not fresh.. the wine at 19 and 23 dollars was over priced... a poorly cooked meal  in a lovely setting
Maia Churichkova
Really lovely in summer to sit outside. And nice and warm and cosy inside despite it being such a huge space. Hands down the best flounder I've ever had and would definitely return when on the shore. Plenty of parking in the beach car parks, free after 6.
Kelly
Beautiful, tasty food and kind, attentive service. The most amazing chocolate fondant I've had in a while! It had collapsed by the time it reached our table but it didn't matter because the oozing chocolate and salted caramel sauce was to die for: rich dark caramel taken just far enough and nice salty punch. My salmon was cooked to perfection: medium rare and just melted in my mouth; it was a lot better after I cracked salt and pepper onto it. There are other restaurants I prefer for mains in Takapuna but I will definitely be back for sure for that glorious chocolate fondant - a MUST try.
Candii Cao
Amazing seafood, great selection. Beautiful view of the beach and very children friendly. The staff are very friendly and accomodating. We ordered a dozen oysters and they were happy to cook half separately.
Brunchalicious
Stumbled across this waterfront restaurant for the first time and we will be back! Not only is it right at the waterfront which will be great for summer but it also has a nice relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious.. I had the cedar smoked salmon with a candied walnut, grape and ends name salad and celeriac and feta salad on the side and a rhubarb and vanilla custard Mille feuille desert... And oh boy both were to die for... Go people go. Expect it not to be cheap but it is worth it ... 2 main courses , 2 sides, 2 deserts and bottle of wine and coffee for $180NZD but you could have cheaper choices!
Estelle.verani
Had the Sous vide salmon and it was delicious, great tastes combined together to make up a very satisfying dish. The decor and location are really nice too, just a couple of meters from Takapuna beach with a nice view on Rangitoto.

Disappointed no vegetarian meal other than salad , cheese and bread. Service was great, food was quite average. Definitely need to improve on being more vegetarian friendly restaurant.

We hadn’t been to Regatta for a while so thought we should drop in for a casual lunch on Saturday. We ordered the market fish of the day (Tuna), Sichuan Chilli Squid, side vegetables and thick fries.<br/><br/>To jump to the chase the quality of the food has dropped dramatically since our last visit. The batter on the squid was watery, the chips were soaked in oil and the tuna was undercooked!<br/><br/>The service, a previous strong point, was average.<br/><br/>We won’t be back.<br/>——————————————————————-<br/> PREVIOUS REVIEW<br/><br/>Sunday brunch with the family. Nice atmosphere, very pleasant staff and the food is simple and fresh. We went for the fish and chips - fresh fish, nice batter and fresh oil. Washed down with a lovely French Rose - what more could you ask for. Highly recommend.

We were attracted by the fact we have met the General Manager who visited our vineyard to taste our wines when he was selecting the wine list...and chose some of them. We went past as they were setting up for lunch for breakfast, and although they suggested to go to another place for breakfast we decided to walk  to Thorne's Bay and come back to lunch.<br/>We don't drink much at lunch time so I ordered a smoky vermouth and enjoyed the taste but forgot to ask for it with ice...it was a hot sunny day. David stuck with coffee. I ate a really delicious and filling seafood chowder with a good hearty stock of tomato.<br/><br/>We are going back on Tuesday evening to taste some of Heron's Flight Wines with people who care to join. We are sure our Dolcetto and Sangiovese goes well with fish, and tomato, as well as the interesting meat and vegetable dishes they make available. The staff were very efficient and friendly and put up with our chronic table hopping. We like to talk over meals and did so the music wasn't too loud and was soothing. Sitting in the sun was pleasurable and by the end of the day I was much less cranky than one I started.

my wife and i have been here a number of times. both for lunch and dinner. even during the opening weeks when this place was packed i found the people running it to handle it very well.  im not a big seafood eater.. (i know this is a seafood restaurant mainly)  but their steak 200G  has always been on point ! <br/><br/>the place looks great and whoever designed it has nailed the nautical them right down to the fish scale concrete floors.  the view in summer when the suns out till late is beautiful you cant beat Takapuna beach on a good day... <br/><br/>over all everything we ordered was really very good. i would like to see some more central otago wines on the menu haha but thats just me! <br/><br/>i'll be back soon!

Last night's dinner was OK. Service a bit dodgy. Drink orders taken at the same time as the food order and the waitress was hopeless in knowing what drinks were what.<br/>Our meals were all different so for them to be brought to the table and the waitress to stand there asking "who was having the such and such" was poor form. Also one daughter had ordered steak and prawns as an extra. Her meal came with just steak, but moments later another waitress came and replaced it with the steak and prawns on top. Who was served the steak that had been brought to our table and then wiped away? Prawns were so over cooked they were beyond awful by the way.<br/>My dish did not come out straight away with the other three meals. I waited, forgotten but then a fish dish came out with too much on it. I had ordered the one piece fish and chip dish. Obviously a mishap in the order/ cooking department.<br/>By now we were happy to eat and go. Thought to have dessert but couldn't master the energy to stay.

Must admit to a wee bit of trepidation heading to Regatta for the first time as there have been some nasty reviews online. Was however pleasantly surprised.<br/><br/>A lot of the nasty reviews seem to have been around the staff training. As this place is relatively new that was possibly valid in the early days, wasn't in evidence today. Our server was extremely pleasant and helpful. All the staff we interacted with were. They knew the menu, were attentive without fussing and always smiled. A lot of places could learn from the servers we interacted with.<br/><br/>We had a baby with us, a high chair was delivered promptly with a smile and it was brand new and in perfect working condition (can't be said for a lot of restaurants).<br/><br/>The food was great, yes it isn't the cheapest but then isn't trying to be a cafe, it is an upmarket restaurant with world class views. If you want somewhere cheap and cheerful, go elsewhere.<br/><br/>The decor is fantastic. They really have done well with the nautical theme. There is a huge range of seating options throughout the restaurant. We chose to sit outside in a half-oval type booth that was very comfortable with soft cushions. Could easily have spent the afternoon enjoying a few more wines with that view. Will have to go back another time to try a different option.<br/><br/>All in all a

Went there Thursday night - four of us on one small table that was clearly struggling to handle us. My son had the steak and loved it, my daughter had the salmon which was also lovely. Unfortunately both my wife and I went for the seared tuna and asked for it rare - only for it to be served well and truly well done - like cardboard. I asked for mine to be replaced - no apology just an advisement I'd have to wait while they cooked another piece - which I kind of figured had to happen! No acknowledgement at all from then on of having to wait as everyone else finished their meal before my second main course arrived. Pretty average service too. We won't be going back, which is a shame as we are local and like to support good local businesses.

Wonderful setting and very relaxed and open plan. The food and service was very good and made for an enjoyable experience. This was our second visit and we would certainly recommend and will be back for another visit soon. Lots of parking available and if you wish have a walk on the nearby beach after one of the delicious desserts

Beautiful location for a restaurant. The wife and myself went for dinner and found it a tad expensive and rather bland. She had the flounder which was nice enough. I had the fish and chips which sadly was very disappointing. The fish was watery and tasteless, I'm pretty sure it was frozen fish and not fresh. I asked the waitress and she said it was of course fresh! Agree to disagree on that one. Service was good, decor was nice, I think we'd go back and give it another go but I'll try something else off the menu.
Bonita Bananas
We had a lovely waitress who knew her menu well. Great spot for sure. But ... WAY overpriced for very average food. $175 for two people who only had one drink each is a bit ridiculous to be honest. I can't say I'd be back unfortunately. <br/>

Great location, well selected wine list, service attentive. We shared the flounder, pleased we shared as it was a massive serving! The flavours were excellent and cooked to perfection. Would eat here again to see if it's consistent and if so, will make it a favorite.<br/><br/>Father's day lunch September 15 was excellent. Very busy day and service was outstanding and every dish we ordered was spot on. You can't beat the dish and chips and the artichoke salad was very good.
David Boshier
Hard to beat the location over looking Takapuna beach. From the time you walk in the door the service is attentive and quick. I do like bars with great table service. Meals are large and my Flounder was fantastic.<br/><br/>Will be heading back.

I went there today and may I say that this is my worst experience in a Resturant I have ever had.I went there with my family and we sat down next to the door and then they decided to open the bloody door and it was so windy so we asked the waitress to close it and she said I don't know about that I have to ask the manager and my family was like ok do you really have to asks the bloody manger <br/>just close it yourself, and so the manager came and closed the door(took them long enough for such an easy task)<br/>Moments later our drinks came they were okay, after that we ordered or meals I had the steak and so did my father and mother but my sister had the chicken. After about an hour and still waiting for our meal we were told that some customers complained that it was too hot and asked to open the door and so the waitress told us to move so she can open the bloody door, so we moved on to a different table and about 20 minutes later our food finally came so about 1 hour and 30 minutes wait( took them long enough)So off to the food and when my stake came I was like wait is this it on my plate there was only a small piece of steak and some bread thing and that everyone costed 32 dollars which is a total rip off. And my mum and dads steak was a bit different it had a steak and a bloody bone filled with some kind of bread crumbs which I gave it a try and was horrible so if you ever choose eat the steak my parents ordered you should also bring your dog cause we all know no human will eat a bone.On to my sisters meal well let's just say you'll be ordering MacDonald's after this if your order the chicken cause that chicken was about only 3 fingers big who the hell is going to be fed with a chicken that small another waste of money.Oh I almost forgot the entree which was a warm bread selection <br/>Which was basically 4 pieces of warm bread that had no flavour and it also came with oil and butter and that was $11.90 another waste of money.<br/>Overall my experience here was the worst ever the service was awful the food was horrible and a waste of money.<br/>If I were you I would rather go to MacDonald's at least there the service is good and u get what you paid for. ?

Dinning experience was poor. Food ok. Service awful. Ate with my colleagues as we work close by, we will not be returning. The waitresses would hang off our table trying to be helpful but knew no knowledge of the food at all! They were very annoying- we tried to converse but were blatantly interrupted numerous times. As for the review below where the poor lady's son was discriminated against- I have advised her to contact me at my office and the employment relations court. That is unacceptable.

Had lunch at Regatta, dined from their bar menu, delicious bouillabaisse with samphire and sea grapes, service was fast and friendly, very attentive even though they seemed quite busy! Good coffee too! Will be back for dinner!

Average food, average staff and quite pricey. Great spot though. Ordered a seafood platter, fries, Riesling and ciders. Tried two different Rieslings and neither was overly tasty, the seafood platter was OK but quite overpriced at $42. Great spot in the sun though.

Good spot, friendly staff, good coffee but that's where it ends...<br/>Paid $62 for two coffees and two burnt or looked like old oil being used tiny fish, a plate full of chips with peas over the chips which looked weird and I hate peas the food is so average for the price had better fish at the local fish n chip place Unfortunately food lets this place down no love in this food which is a shame get a new chef!! Would only go back for a drink

Great spot but the food is expensive for what you get. The staff are so young, hard to hear, giggle like 12 year olds & not at all knowledgable. We were told we needed to eat early as they were fully booked so arrived at 5.30. We left at 8.30 & it was half empty! Not impressed! Desert was great but $14.50! You're not that cool Regatta & we won't be back or recommend you.<br/>

Walking in the doors and seeing the breath taking view of takapuna beach in the evening was the only part of the evening that was enjoyed by our group of 6. The whole dining experience went downhill from there... I have never dined at a restaurant with such poor service!!! The darkish brown-haired server (who name was Ashley or Alison or something along those lines) scoffed at my order when I requested a meal to be made gluten free (I assumed it was fine to ask about options), then continued to blatantly roll her eyes at my mentally disabled son when he did his best to speak his order! He is often used to being looked at strangely but never in this way. The next table were also making similar comments to me about the lack of manners from the same server. Then after waiting over an hour for our meals - which were served cold, we didn't bother to stay for anymore eye-rolling or dessert. The whole experience has changed preferences and we will definitely not be coming back or recommending to anyone!

Have given this place 3 tries, hoping early days teething problems would get sorted, but not yet anyway! The food is ok, not great, but the service is appalling!  So many, and none of them doing anything.  We sat outside at the front, had to get our own wine, then our own menus, and eventually after half hr found a waitress to take our order.  Then to be told we could only order a few things off the entrée menu as inside the restaurant was full and the kitchen couldn't cope!  As we had already got a bottle of wine, it was too late to leave. We should have been told this on arrival, or there should have been a sign on the tables, that you couldn't have a full meal there!Sadly probs wont go back, a shame as a great location!

This is a fantastic spot for a drink and a spot of people watching. View out over to water (finally) and Rangitoto is wonderful. We both thought that the desert was the best piece of our dinner. Both of us not usually big on desert but these were beautiful. Pricing was good. Service was okay, good but not wonderful - a bit flat. Definitely come back to see whether my picks for entree and main were the exception. Great to have a interesting place which caters for families, couples or just somewhere to hang out for a drink. Great décor.Marked it down because food wasn't as good as we'd hoped.
