Review Angora Takapuna - Takapuna

Razal K A
The place serves Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine. The food is great and the service excellent. They have nicely decked with Turkish artifacts. They also sell hand made lamps and other merchandises from Turkey.

I guess I qualify as a regular now, as I dine there at least every other week. The food is both excellent, and authentically Turkish with lots of variety. My personal favorite is Black Sea Chicken, the walnut sauce is delicious. Make sure you leave room for desert though. Without a doubt they have the best deserts in Takapuna (I know, I've tried them all). The service is top-notch. It's a husband and wife team that run the place, so Orhan (chef) and Virsen (Maitre'D) are there almost every night to make sure the food and service is just right. Highly recommend this place.

A nice and cozy place. Great and lots of vegetarian options. The eggplant dish is amazing! A must try! Great food, great ambiance and service!

Delicious meal and genuine friendly service. Do leave space for the baklava, which is simply divine. The menu has an interesting range of dishes, so do be adventurous.

Great place to eat and relax. I had lamb rump with eggplant - delicious. The waiter asked how I wanted it to be done - that I found was client-centered. They delivered what I asked for. Also we had bread and dips for a starter- it was warm fresh and tasty. Overall good friendly service and pleasant atmosphere there. I liked the Turkish glass lamps and a little shop at the entrance with more lamps and plates - eye candy! So pretty.

Love the entrance. The staff was nice but no one seemed to care untill unless you actually walk inside and ask for a seat. They have a store in the entrance. Food was okay. A good place to try.

Really polite couple, loved the food and ambiance. Really good handcrafted stuff and amazing Turkish cuisines. Pizza was crisp and very filling too. Would definitely go again. Cheers 🍻

The meal was ok, nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about
I had the moussaka it was basically a cottage pie, mince with frozen veg in it (can’t believe a restaurant would actually use frozen vegetables) I could make this myself.
Totally overpriced for what it was
My husband enjoyed the lamb
The baklava was definitely not the best I have had but again it was ok

By stepping into Angora, you'll instantly fall in love with the Turkish vibe. From beautifully crafted lamps to intricate fabric designs and other unique items which you can find at Angora restaurant cum store.

Eventhough this place is pretty busy on a Saturday evening, their service is still up to speed.

Their Kebabs and Ispanakli Borek are delicious. Also, we would highly recommend their Blacksea Chicken if you're after a slightly different dish from the usual kebab.

Oh, don't go home without having the classic baklava! :)

Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience at Angora and would recommend if you're after decent Turkish food around the area. 🇹🇷

Super welcoming service and beautiful little gift shop with different Turkish items (lamps, rugs). Everyone enjoyed their meal. Good variety.

I really enjoyed the ambience of this place. Especially the entrance way which has beautiful lamps and items for sale.

The service was good. However, there are a few small things the waitresses could have done to make it great service. Firstly, the waiter gave us a table with two menus but there were three of us. Secondly, the waiter apologised after realising we didn't have any cutlery to begin our entree. Thirdly, our water bottle was never replaced despite it being empty for the majority of the time. Although these are very minor things, they do make a
difference to the overall dining experience.

In terms of food, the menu is very reasonably priced. I thought the portions were of a good size. We enjoyed the dips which came with Turkish bread. There wasn't anything that stood out flavour-wise in terms of our mains, and the Blacksea Chicken wasn't exactly pleasing to the eye. The kebab and Turkish pizza was tasty and there was a generous amount of meat. However, there wasn't too much of a difference between these dishes and any usual Turkish kebab takeaway. Whether this is a good or bad thing can be left up to you.

All in all, it was a good dining experience with nice food but nothing overly amazing. Given the amount of offerings in the area, unless it's for a gift idea, I probably won't be coming back.

Ambience 4/5
Service 3.5/5
Food 3.5/5

Overall 3.5/5

My family and I have been several times and have always been very pleased with both the food and the overall experience. We went more recently and noticed they changed the menu to feature more Mediterranean dishes, I ordered eye filet which was cooked perfectly, my wife had the prawn ravioli, and my son had the chicken with tomato sauce. We were all very pleased with the meal, the portions were more than generous and the service was very friendly. Overall, would recommend, and will definitely come back for more.

I ordered a Black Sea Chicken and it was fantastic. The atmosphere was hella tight, I especially enjoyed the customer service. The waitress was nice to me and my friends, she was also very attentive. The food was delivered in a timely fashion. The only thing I can say that I didn't enjoy was that the menu was a little too extensive and it was hard to make a decision. Basically, this place is dope (and the shisa is pretty good too).

We've been coming here for a couple of years - and love it. They've recently changed their theme and menu to more Mediterranean food, including pastas - so for those thinking just Turkish - it has now changed and really there's something for everyone. We've tried a couple of the pastas and have been really impressed. We still love their originals of Black Sea Chicken and Islim Kebabi. For dessert our favourites are delicious cheese cake, baklava and tiramisu.

This place is great if a little quiet. They have a belly dancer most nights which livens things up. The baclava and halumi are our favourites. The shisa is great out front especially with the gas heaters on. Flavours are limited so call in advance to check and get the coals heated up

We've never eaten Turkish before last night. 8 people booked for a celebration meal. This restaurant is decorated in a simple Turkish atmosphere, and comfortable, however some of our chairs suffered from dead springs which meant some of us sunk too low into the chair. About 25% of the available tables were taken on this Saturday night. The service was very friendly and efficient, although our table suffered from " I'll lean over you and take your plate before you've finished" disease. Our group ordered entrees and main courses. The menu is a mix of semi European and traditional Turkish food. Nicely presented on the plate and very tasty. Plenty of spices. Desserts were simple and this reflected in the presentation. We felt the desserts were excessive in their portion size. The bathrooms were clean and fresh. Overall a lovely experience.

This is my first bad review, as a group of 7 we had gone into Angora last Friday 1st of July for dinner drinks and shisha.
The pros - the waiters listened when we told them about our vodka with sprite being too weak and tasted just like sprite. They also kept turning the heater on. The ambiance really did remind me of being back in cafes of Ankara in Turkey. Fries were nice and the bread dips were nice too.
The con - We sat outside to do shisha, Mixed berry was really good, Vanila was ok but the heater wouldn't turn on, and after it did, it constantly went off. The lamb was nice but the mash was cold. Our biggest disappointment were the drinks, the waitress said she put 2 shots into the drink as per normal, being a social group often going to dine we could tell it was impossible to be 2 shots, however we were happy to pay "couple of extra dollars" to get our drinks made right. And my lemon lime and bitters barely had bitters. I was too disappointed with the heaters not working to even bother to mention my drink to the waitress. We left as soon as we could.
We did mention our discontent, but the waitress at the desk just conjured excuses. She was very polite though.

Ambiance - 4/5, only because of the heaters.
Food - 3/5
Drinks - 1/5
Service - 4/5
Shisha - 4/5

Had a great meal here tonight. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. The dishes were quite large so it's a good place to go if you're feeling hungry. Would definitely recommend this place.

After rave reviews from the parents, I decided to come and see what all the fuss was about. I was delightfully surprised with my meal - steak was cooked to purfection and the flavour componants all there. Loved the night and I am looking forward to coming back again soon.

This was a quick bite to eat before the Topp Twins Show (which was hilirious!!) The food and wine were delicious, we wish we weren't in so much of a rush. We started sharing the Sigara Boregi, which was the best I have ever had, then ordered the Duck and Islim Kebabi - both were delicious and presented well. The service was friendly and efficient. We live in Howick but somehow will be back to try more dishes and look forward to being able to take our time and enjoy the service and food without rushing.

After reading some good reviews and also on the look out for a place to have some sheesha we found angora in takapuna. Its tucked away from the hustle and bustle which is really nice. The set up is authentic, the service is A+++ and the food is well amazing ! Just as i remember when i lived in Turkey. Çok güzel. Will return again very soon !!

I took my girlfriend here for a late dinner and have to say this place is great. The food was real good and authentic with decent size meals the staff were so accommodating and we had shesha after (grape). Highly recommend this place and is the only thing open late in taka !!

We've been here 3 times now and are taking a group of 6 tomorrow night. Love it - great addition to the selection in Takapuna/Milford. Haven't had anything yet that hasn't been absolutely delicious - and we've tried a few things. I love the baklava, and the other half loves the cheese cake.

Having spent a couple of months in Turkey back in the '80s - this is nothing like the fare I could afford back then.

I am of Turkish origin and for years couldn't have a good Turkish meal at a restaurant. When Angora opened in Takapuna, I took all the family including the grandchildren for dinner.

The ambiance was great. New Zealand's top interior designer Stewart Harris has designed the restaurant, I found.

I knew the food is going to be good, as I had eaten several times at Angora Restaurant in Whanganui, during a visit. It was a large and a very popular restaurant that won the best restaurant award 3 years in a row. I was not surprised. The same owner Orhan who is an experienced cook and his wife Birsen was very popular in Whanganui. I saw the Mayoress of Whanganui and her husband twice and a well known MP eating there. The restaurant probably had 200 seats. Couldn't believe seeing the same tables filled twice and people waiting, some evenings.

I am very happy to have Angora in Takapuna now. I have been over 14 times since. I have tried most dishes and find them all delicious. One complaint I have, the portions are too big for me. Turkey is a lamb country like New Zealand and Islim Kebabi is a gourmets delight for lamb enthusiasts. The duck is to die for. I have never in my life eaten more delicious scallops than these ones Orhan cooks. Not even in France.

When you say you are going to a Turkish restaurant people always think you are going to have kebab. Kebabs are very tiny portion of Turkish kitchen's portfolio. Angora has a modern Turkish cuisine menu. Thank you Angora, you are doing it very well.

A little bit disappointed portion wise. I ordered the chicken Istanbul, thought it sounded interesting.. When my food arrived, there was just one piece of chicken plus a side garden salad (what I could put together at home). I Was not overly impressed and it was not the usual Mediterranean food one would expect. We ordered bread n dips as a starter too, again, it came with little strips of bread with way too much dips for the small amount of bread. Overall was not very satisfied after dining there.

I discovered this restaurant with friends a few months back & have become a regular because quite honestly the food at this establishment is outstanding!! Beersa (probably spelt wrong!) & her husband are always welcomimg and run a 1st class restaurant. Had dinner there last night as a party of 8, started with a selection of entree's, scallops, prawns, haloumi, calamari & stuffed mushrooms, all of which were excellent.. The lamb rump is the best lamb I have tasted anywhere in the world...! full of flavour & always superbly tender, served with an array of diced vegetables and the best tasting eggplant you will ever eat!, all wrapped up in a delicious sauce.. My partner had the duck which is served with a light orange sauce & was just heavenly...As a group we went through the menu including the amazing Tiramisu to end... Aucklanders...if you want to taste REAL food this is the place...superb in every regard.. Also BYO which is great if you have that special bottle you want to blow the cobwebs off..

I heard about this restaurant from a friend and ended up there after the movie we wanted to see was fully booked.

The initial impression was excellent: the hostess was courteous, friendly and very professional. The decor was classy yet warm and relaxed, better that almost every other restaurant I have been to and I have been to many. I expected the same attention to detail in the food and I wasn't disappointed.

My calamari had been mildly marinaded and then cooked to perfection, tender and with a slight hint of wood fire smokiness. My lamb dish was quite simply the finest piece of lamb I have ever eaten, moist and tender and I could have had another serving, despite not being hungry after the first.

My wife had a haloumi starter followed by prawns as a main. Again, both dishes were presented to the highest standard, perfectly cooked and with subtle and compelling flavours.

Angora will be my new favourite restaurant.

We have been to this restaurant several times and always have an excellent meal. Make sure you go hungry as the portions are generous and flavourful. If possible save some space for dessert the Tiramisu is to die for, light and airy. Not the usual overly rich offering of other establishments. The service is friendly and courteous, the décor inviting. We make this a regular event.

Brilliant meal with great service.
I had the Morrocan Spiced Lamb and it was great, very large portions too.
My dinner partners had the Black Sea chicken and the Lamb Shish Kebab. Both were very pleased with theirs too.
The Tiramisu I had for dessert was amazing too.
Service was friendly and attentive, could not be faulted.
Will definitely be returning again.

Very nice new restaurant with a warm atmosphere. Went with my friend the other evening and the food was spectacular. I had the Islim Kebabi which was very tasty, the meat was tender and the flavours all went well together. Great staff, they were friendly. The restaurant enhances the Turkish culture very well. Overall we will be visiting again. I highly recommend it.

This is a great addition to Takapuna. We dined here for the first time on a Friday evening and they've done a great job of making over the space. It is up the quieter end of Takapuna so it wasn't very full - I'm sure lots of people don't know about it yet given they've only just opened. I'd encourage people to give it a try.

The service was excellent and we all enjoyed our meals. You can tell they've put a lot of care into the menu and the food was good quality with loads of flavour - a step above what I've experienced in other Turkish restaurants in Auckland. We'll definitely go back.

Great food with excellent service. This is not your average Turkish restaurant, it is more refined but not overpriced for what you get. It's nice to have something different to try in Takapuna. The wine list is also very good. We will absolutely be back. One recommendation I would make is to have some of that sweet Turkish tea to have with your dessert. Thanks for a great evening.

Went to Angora on the opening night so there weren't many people, the food was fantastic, traditional Turkish food at it's best. This is one place I will visit often. Wine list has a good mix of New Zealand and Italian wines (owner has promised some Turkish wines for the future) probably a few too many wait staff for the first night as they seem to be standing around looking for something to do, I expect as soon as this place gets discovered they will have plenty to do.

Not as good as reviews suggested. One of our table found a small cockroach on the table when they arrived, which was removed with his napkin by the chef. I ordered the Islim Kebabi, the lamb rump was over cooked to very well done, The dish was nice, however the dry tough lamb ruined it. A member of our party arrived slightly late and ordered her meal only about 5 mins after the rest of us, yet when the food was brought out, we had all eaten ours and the table had been mostly cleared before her food arrived. There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant, it wouldn't have been hard for them to express her order so she at least received her food shortly after the rest of us. Overall, a disappointing experience at a new restaurant one would assume would be out to impress in these early days.

Dined for the first time just last night, and I have to say that everything is done absolutely perfectly. The food looked, smelled and tasted amazing, the wine selection was brilliant as was the coffee. Great décor and excellent service. I had the Mixed Grill which included beautifully grilled Lamb kofta, Beef and Chicken shish with delicious sauces to accompany and superb pide. I would recommend it highly to any hungry patron.
