Review 8 Colours Korean Bbq Buffet - Takapuna

Amos Ling
Very popular place with a steady stream of customers. Very risky to show up without a booking. Great feel and decor. Large restaurant but to accomodate the crowds, tables are quite close to each other. Good variety with the regular Korean BBQ meats and mains/salads selections but poor on the dessert range (only one flavour of mini cheesecake, sliced apples and oranges). Bathrooms are really clean which is a plus. Has a tiny seafood selection of squid and prawns. We tried the prawns and they small and not very fresh. At $29 per head I wouldn't recommend this place as there are other establishments around the same standard for less. 3.5-4 stars.

Excellent korean bbq. Food is delicious with lots of options. The marinated pork is easily the best fried meat. The frozen cheese cake bites are surprisingly tasty as well. Also have many pre-cooked (ready to eat) items as well. Overall, a great experience. Only gave 4 stars because they are so busy that they rush you out to make room for next guests.

Hidden Gem, from the outside doesn’t look that inviting but once inside found service to be friendly and good range of all you can eat buffet. BBQ your own food is different and entertaining. Left very content and really surprised how reasonable the total meal was.
Matthew Hansen
Not a great looking site from the outside. Once inside it is fine. You have the option of buffet or bbq buffet. You can snack on the hot cooked food then cook your own meat. Limited array off bbq meats but enough sides to make it worth while. Overall good value for money and would recommend it.

Don’t understand why it doesn’t have more than 4 stars. My kiwi friend recommend that I check out here when I come to Auckland and I went here today! To be honest, it was the best bbq place I’ve ever been to in NZ and Brisbane. And super cheap!! Cheaper than other places in Wellington or Brisbane which costed me $40. Really good value, and will miss here. A lot of side dishes, Korean main dishes and good meats. Loved it!! 진짜 목까지 채워서 먹은 듯

Excellent Korean all you can eat bbq. always satisfied when dining at eight colors I travel from west Auckland. Great selection of meat plentiful raw and cooked. Also a great selection of fresh Korean salads side dishes hot and cold, also soups, and to top it off cheese cake fresh fruit coffee for dessert. Happy diner.

There were decent options for food and the staff were accommodating. Only thing is it's quite pricy compared to other Korean restaurants in CBD. Would be a great option for family or with friends.
Angela Yang
All in all, not a bad Korean BBQ restaurant. However, the interior is very smokey, which takes a while to get used to. It's also quite dim, which might be a result of the smoke. The variety is not bad, but doesn't have quite as much One Dak (but that's $28pp, and this is $25pp). There's a lot of cooked food to choose from, some meat, two soups, and a few drinks such as tea and coffee. There's no desert, only oranges and apples. The food is replaced regularly, and the staff is very helpful. There's very limited parking, and a paid carpark next door, as well as paid parking on the street. If you're willing to walk five minutes or so though, there's usually free parking around a street.

Hearty meal indeed, ate all my fave Korean food 😁 happy tummy

This is the best Korean BBQ I found in Auckland. Often changing frying plates, fresh meat, good ambient, lights, no annoying music. Quite a lot of space.

This is the best KBBQ on the shore, absolutely love it!!!
Kristal Sina
I've been coming here for a few years now as it's the best Korean bbq place on the shore, however just recently myself and family were told to pay first before we eat, that was the first time I had that happen but thought it was probably their new policy, me thinking to many people must of ate and gapped it without paying so we grabbed a feed and took a seat and noticed Asian people were walking in and being seated without having to pay first and then i knew that because we were brown they made us pay first, so disappointing because my whole family used to enjoy it here but I swear no matter how good the food is I will not stand for rasicm so basically we found a new family favourite at Gangnam Style Korean bbq in Takapuna, top notch food and top notch service 😁😁

Clean spot, great location, wasn't much food option to cook tho, just meat, most of the food are already been pre cooked ready to go
Gigi
My phone was stolen by one of the young korean staff in this restaurant!! what a terrible dining experience. there is no CCTV in this restaurant so I recommand people to be aware of their property when dining. I wont definitely come back. staff is dishonest and sneaky.

I have been here for a couple of times already and it didnt disappoint me! If you are after some korean bbq, it is one of the place to go! They have offer a lot of variety of food and side dishes. The staff are always on top of it when regards to changing the bbq plate. They offer a lot of bbq meat and seafoods! Amazing bbq place!

Ive been here several times and each time the food has been consistently good and reliable. Theres been no bad experiences except one really busy time they said we had exactly 2 hours because they were fully booked and then kept telling us we had to leave soon coz the next guests had arrived even though we had another 20 mins to 2 hours. The side dishes and hot dishes are good. The staff are always hardworking and friendly. I like the fruit and drink options. Meat selection is pretty good. Ive been to just about every korean buffet in the north shore and I would rate this one as one of the best, particularly for the price.
Jon
Average Korean buffet. This place is mostly for people who want to cook there own Korean BBQ, as there are good options in meats and condiments etc. However, The normal food options are poor. The cooked dishes are bland and use low-quality ingredients resulting in overly-chewy food and frankly boring food (fried rice, tough pork, gristle floating in gravy).
Beyon
Only down fall is that there isn't much ventilating air in the place so we walk out smelling like bbq smoke.. couldn't wait to get home and shower. Wouldn't recommend it if you were going somewhere afterward.
Other than that.....
It is what it is..... Korean BBQ
Better selection of meat than most Korean BBQs I have been to though. Loved the selection of vegetables on hand.
JFH
Well it is quite cheap, but for that price you will get really poor quality meat...
If you’re going on a weekend make sure you book a table a week prior. They’re always fully booked specially on Saturdays and even if you have a booking you still have to wait to be seated.
Ken
Good place to have family dinner with cheap price.
But still there are couple of things they need to improve.

1. Ventilation
I do not recommend this restaurant if one of your family member has respiratory diseases. It is really smoggy inside of the restaurant. It's really hard to breathe in there.
They should fix it ASAP.

2. Meat Freezer
Their meat storage has odor which is very inconvenience that only one person can get meat at the same time. They are not small restaurant so they need to fix it as well.

We just recently discovered this place when we were looking for another Korean barbecue restaurant in the Takapuna area, initially we were destined to be on one of them but stumbled upon this place and luckily we did as during the time of our visit this was nearly new and everything was freshly refurbished meaning it was clean.
Minh Thu
The food was amazing, with a great atmosphere as well. It’s a perfect place to go with friends. They renew the grill every 15 minutes or so which was nice
Angela_an
Used to be a really good Korean bbq place, not sure if they changed owner or what, but had a not very pleasant experience this time. Found plastic wrap in the meat, and the meat was REALLY hard to chew. The pumpkin soup used to be really nice and had this really thick texture, but now it’s completely the opposite. Used to come here a lot, but I don’t think we’d come back again.
Arianaaa
Good variety of cooked food and bbq food. Love that they have the cinnamon drink! 8 colors used to be really expensive but I’m glad they have reviewed their prices to suit their variety of ingredients!

We had a great time here last Friday June 14. The food was delicious and the waiter (I forgot to ask the name of the guy) was so helpful. He was very friendly is always there for the customers when we need him. Will definitely come back to this place.
I just hope they have desserts.
Louise
I came here a few nights ago, and overall had a great time.

There is a time limit to eat here, of 1h30, which can make meals a bit rushed especially if you have larger families with one grill to share. The front of house lady that served us was pretty impatient, and 10 minutes before we were to leave she reminded us that we had 10 minutes left and started clearing our plates, leaving me to hold my dessert with no plate or utensils to eat with. Quite rude in all honesty. It got even more confusing when we were trying to leave, and customers kept stopping us because there was no one at the front desk (not sure where the lady went at that point) and asking us if we were the waiter/waitresses.

The other waiter was lovely, he would come every 10-20 minutes and change our grill for us and was very polite. He would also ask if we were done with certain plates before taking them.

There is a big variety of food available, both cooked and raw to choose from. I wish they did have lettuce though, as I do like to have KBBQ with lettuce wraps as all other Korean BBQ restaurants do. Do beware though, fully cook your meat - as I did get food poisoning the next day (most likely from my own fault of not cooking the meat well enough).

The restaurant can get a little muggy, as there's not a lot of air circulation going on, but with the current cold weather, I didn't feel like it was such a big deal.

The price is pretty reasonable for a KBBQ buffet - $27 on a weekday for adults.

Price: 4/5
Service: 2/5 (FoH lady really ruined the experience tbh)
Food: 3/5

I been to a couple of Korean BBQ in Auckland and this will one of my favorite.

The food tastes fresh and just delicious.

Plenty of seats and nice deco.
The ambiance is good too.

Only thing i like to see is a couple more selection on desserts and English labels on most dishes.

Yiming Cao
Great place to devour some meat! Lamb chop is simply astonishing! Price is reasonable but need various items from kitchen. Been there for 4 times, staffs were friendly at all time; group dinner is strongly recommended.

Went with my family of 7. Was seated at the back room. The place started packing up fast and o the smoke. There was no ventilation for the smoke to leave but they did keep replacing the grills once they started smoking up alot. Wasnt much a variety of food and the signs were in asian so i didnt know what i was eating but i tried them all though. There was plenty of meat but my daughters table their gas kept running out in a span of 5mins, total 5 gas bottles later lol anyhu was ok. Kids enjoyed the fried chicken n hot chips. Also there was a fan in corner of room but was broken. Would hv helped with our smokey room. Dessert wasnt much. Fruits and cheesecake and that’s about it. End of night left with an ok feeling but wouldn’t go back. Also my clothes and hair stunk of bbq. But i guess thats wats expected at these kind of restaurants. Total bill of 7 $150. 2 kids 4 adults.

love it as always! The shrimps are really fresh. Like thin cut streaky pork in particular. Cooked dishes nice too. Also like the ginger drink there and dessert. can always feel so satisfied after filling your tummy there and then go for a walk along the beach to feel less guilty.
Red Puntanar-Cadaon
Unfortunately the service and staff were not pleasant to deal with at all - speaking from my own experience and my friends'. Particularly one certain young Korean lady who is always angry about something and not is really approachable as a front of house.

Not happy with the customer service of this place.
Good food with bad service, what a shame.
Aly
Compared with other bbq buffet I have tried before, it is more spacious and the table is bigger, the oven and tray are cleaner as well.
The male staff there is really nice, very kind and friendly.
Booking is essential... I have a limit of 1.5 hour to have the food, it’s enough for me as I’m just a meat lover...
The free drink is unforgettable and I will not try it in the next time.
One of the better Korean BBQ places in Auckland. Quality of the meat is good and there’s a great selection of sides to choose from. Good place to go with a group of friends.

This place is a perfect Korean BBQ experience. You pay at the door, and while the staff and friendly and professional they are not overbearing and leave you to cook and eat to your hearts content. There is a great array of condiments, sides, sauces and other varieties of food like sushi, fried rice and various pickles. The meat selection is awesome and we definitely got our moneys worth. The room was full but never too loud which made it a nice experience.

The loss of stars is because unfortunately the squid wasn't fresh (as we discovered when it was sampled without sauce later in the night) and two people we dined with became unwell afterwards. We have persevered with the stars though because the rest really was great and we would probably go again – just not for seafood.

Korean bbq buffet with lots of choices of ready to eat food and raw meats/seafood. They give you two hours to eat and also have allocated time that you have to choose. $28pp for dinner, always busy so make sure you make booking.

Typical Korean Buffet. If you like meat and Korean BBQ, this is for you. Samgyupsal. Love their BBQ table unlike other Korean BBG buffet restaurants. Hoping for more variety and choices of food.
Zipporah Ikitule
Ive been here a few times and the first couple times were awesome, food is delicious amd being able to cook your own food is even better. But yesterday when I went back, it didnt feel the same. Some meats wernt restocked, fried chicken tasted like it had being sitting there for a while and was rock hard and some foods didnt taste the same as the first few times I had visited. You can say its slacked a bit. We also had to wait a bit to be served when leaving and also it is so stuffy and hot with no aircon or fans, so we were sweating like crazy. We make the drive over the bridge because I love this place, but after yesterday im not so sure now. I dont think i’ll be visiting again which is ashame.

My hubby was craving for korean bbq so we head out to Takapuna to satisfy our pallets. Indeed, we were happy to dine here. Everything was topped up immediately, the place is clean except the toilet area but other than that we had a great time.
Joseph Kim
Honestly, the variety is quite stunning. I am a Korean myself and I loooove my meat. For the price u can't beat it. There are traditional pre-made dishes aswell so I eat that while I cook my meat. The staff is lovely and are always willing to help. I highly recommend this kbbq joint👍👍
G1k
A group of us went in and the BBQ has a very weak heating system so it takes forever to meat to cook, and when eventually the meat is ready to eat you can only eat a small portion of meat as we had four people to one BBQ., so I recommend you go dine in for a table for two (or one). Also the marinated beef wasn’t that well marinated, as if it was only marinated like 10 minutes earlier.

On a positive note, it’s a buffet so you get a variety of different Korean dishes – from spicy rice cakes, side dishes, salad to even fries! The meat selection is also wide, from beef to squid.

It gets busy for dinner in the weekends, and it seems there is around a 2-hour time limit for customers in the weekends (although they didn’t let us know of this when we made a booking over the phone).
Dahae Kim
The customer service was nice and they were responding fast. The food was nice with the reasonable price. It's worth to visit if you love bbq.
Torra
Satisfied. Nice korean food with reasonable price. Although there is no chicken for bbq, pork belly and beef was good enough. I like korean side dishes like kimchi and spicy stuff. The staff was attentive to change the plates.
Jane
Food is ok and price is very cheap. Service was not good. If you don’t care their attitude and poor service, it’s still a good place to go with your family.
Julia
I like buffet cause i like eating one place with lots of food at once. Lunch price is reasonable and food is general. One thing is not much park place for customer.^^
Michael Frias
My friends and myself arrived yesterday at about 10 minutes earlier from their opening hours. I greeted them with full enthusiasm in Korean but it feels like we are a burden for them. I booked for lunch a week before because I heard it gets really busy during weekend. I was not impressed with their gestures toward us. We drove for almost 2 hours to the Shore to have a wonderful Sunday and that unfortunate event was not quite expected. I feel that we are not properly accommodated unlike other Korean restaurants that I've been to. Maybe they are just having a bad day.

Nonetheless, there is a good selection of meats available for grilling. Heaps of side dishes and chicken as well as beef viands are all tasty.
Grace Huang
This is definitely my go-to kbbq korean buffet as it is close to where I live and provides a large selection of dishes.

Service: 8/10
We were immediately seated as we made a reservation.
The staff were very speedy at changing our grill, refilling the buffet and clearing our plates.
They did change our grill a little too much so it took quite long for the meat to cook.
They were nice, friendly and made us feel welcome.

Food: 7/10
There is a nice variety of meats available to grill.
There is also a delicious selection of hot foods, my favourite was the sweet sour pork which wasn’t too sweet. The fried foods weren’t very crunchy since they aren’t super fresh.
There are also great side dishes to cleanse your palate.
The dessert selection isn’t large as there is only cheesecake and fruit.

Ambiance: 7/10
Since it’s a bbq restaurant, it can get quite smokey inside. The ventilation inside does help a little though.
The restaurant is spacious and large, with plenty of seating, suitable for many occasions. This also means that it gets quite loud with the talking and grilling sounds.
The lighting is dark and calming, and there are modern decorations inside.

This is definitely my favourite kbbq restaurant on the shore as quality is not sacrificed because of quantity. I have been here many times and I will continue to eat here in the future.
Donna
Love this place for korean bbq. They have a nice selection of hot dishes and a lot of raw meat to choose. Their staff are attentive and replace the grill often and take away the plates as well. Would really recommend this place as it’s a reasonable price as well.

I called to make a booking on the day before visiting but was told I don't need to because it's a weekday + lunch and it was correct.
Even when it was peak time for lunch, the place didn't get full, just got reasonably occupied by customers.
It was handy that there were a few vacant carparks which was free availabe that time in just front of the restaurant.

Just spending $19 for the lunch buffet and be able to enjoy many kinds of different food, cold & hot is really nice !! It was a buffet option without BBQ but there were about 2 hot dishes with thinly sliced meat available. I personally liked the fried chicken.
Kimuchi flavour here was also great.
However I was disappointed that I couldn't find any toppoki.
I felt bonus that we could enjoy some little pieces of cheesecake and coffee for dessert.

Warning 1:
Be prepared for the dishes with red coloured soup with tofu. It's got super hot flavour!! I conquered the spiciness by adding other clear broth type soup and it became more tasty.

Warnig 2:
Be careful not to trip over the covered plug line on the floor or to slide on the little bit greasy slippery part of the floor.

The floor lady was attentive clearing used dishes away and made us comfortable with her smiles.
Alice
Been to many korean BBQ places and this is the worst ever. The entire place was so SMOKEY, extremely bad ventilation, and the staff were unfriendly. The only thing I like about their place is the spicy soup, rest of the others are average. I personally would not go back there again.

Taste: 3/5
Customer service: 2/5
Environment: 1/5
Rachel Liew
I like soy bean soup very much.it is so delicious I eat two bowls. Had to leave some space for other food. All food on display are freshly made and cooked well. Been to quite a few Korean style restaurants and to me, it's one of the best in terms of quality and value for money. Had to walk from Takapuna beach to there as no parking space is easily obtained.
Kelly
Decided to dine here for dinner because we were craving Korean bbq and I heard this place is good.

Seated quickly so we could get started on demolishing food! I really enjoyed the typical Korean side dishes like the seaweed and bean sprouts. Marinated beef was definitely my favourite by far!
Great selection of both cold/ raw meats and hot premade food. Staff are attentive, regularly switching out the grill when they note it’s burning

Definitely will be back for more when I’m craving Korean bbq!!!
Jane Cassandra Ramos
Gave it a second chance on Thursday. Pretty good that they made improvements. Floor is clean and tables are well wiped. But still they need some exhaust fans so that you won’t smell like bbq when you come out of the restaurant... over all I actually liked it and it better. Food was so good and staff are very friendly... imna take my family back there
Its Me
Food is nice price is good seems to have parking available most of the time friendly stuff come change your grills without having to hassle them
Kai Mai
Nice little Korean bbq place tucked in a corner of the shore. I like how they offer both lunch & dinner along with he option to have lunch without the BBQ. A lot of variety to choose from, more so than some of the other Korean bbq places I've been to. Would recommend this place to other people. Service was quick and attentive. We went on a day when it wasn't overly busy for lunch. Will be back to check out dinner. Was a bit too busy enjoying the food to take many photos. Really enjoyed the Bulogi 👍🏽

Came here on a Sunday night with a friend and yeah it was a really pleasant experience. The ambience wasn’t anything too special, but how simple it was really appealed to me. The staff were very friendly and regularly changed our cooking plate, they were also relatively quick to clear our plates too.

Pretty decent selection of both hot and cold foods. The meats provided for cooking on the plate were all tasty with my personal favourites being the marinated meats. Would totally come back again, most likely with a bigger group as it seems like a really fun and social way to dine out.
Liah
This place isn't too bad, though th only thing I found is there wasn't much variety even though I loved how they marinated some of there meats - that marinate and sauce was extremly well done would recommend this place as a casual place for dinner with friends :)
Alice In New Zealand
I love this place when i want to go for korean BBQ.
Love side dishes so much n the meat. Especially the meat with kimchi is really good even pumpkin soup .i miss korean food there:)
Mari Flores
A popular go-to Korean BBQ Buffet but its also very hard to get a booking sometimes since it can be easily fully booked. A better option is calling in early or going just slightly after they open.

They have alot of selection of meats and cooked dishes. Only downside is that the waiters can be neglective.
Sanchez Palalagi
Came here in March w/ my best friend and it was my first time at Korean bbq. Range of meats was alright and the side dishes were good. The spicy pork was soooo good and I loved their bulgogi as well , would come back here (:
Erika Gualberto
Went here last Mother's day with a group of 8. There were not much food choices, not sure because if it is mother's day. There were no seafood.
Rachel Shen
They have amazing pork belly with great seasoning here, and so is the beef rib.
Also I really like the pasta salad and white turnip side dish in pic 3.

I also tried the Korean fried rice cake but it is a bit spicy and lack of the sweet taste.

I guess we will come again : )
Biwifruit Reviews
Food was great! Lots of options for cooked and uncooked. They have lamb and very sweetly marinated pork to BBQ. Pickled veges were also very good. But very Smokey on the inside as there is no ventilation, so it can be quite suffocating. Cinnamon drink is also quite bad. Drinks are very expensive too. But the ice machine is awesome for such a hot place.
Snmi2923
fresh meat! table is bit uncomfortable but staffs are really nice and they refill empty dishes immediately. good quality with reasonable price. one of my favorite Korean BBQ buffet.
Diogo Reck
Eventually I like an "all you can eat" restauramt, and 8 Colours is a good option, one of the best I've triedso far.

Meat is good and well marinated, service is fast and staff is always replacing the plate that easily get burned with the food.

Although ingredients are good and fresh, sometimes things don't het replaced. Last time I went there me and my boyfriend had *three prawns*. In the following hour, even after telling the unfriendly waitress the prawn bowl was empty all night long.

This is the BEST Korean bbq buffet EVER!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I drive 35mins just to eat here worth the drive!!! Thank you to the amazing staff at 8 colours❤️

One of the greats!

Easy parking in Takapuna, great buffet after a day out at the beach or lake in Taka.

Good selection of meats. Good variety of meats for grilling and accompanying cold dishes. Service, however, has always been average. Finishing Fruit and dessert selection is basic.
Place feels clean, nice-ish decor, ofcourse noisy - it’s causal dining :)
Pretty good Korean BBQ buffet venue overall.
Thom
Favourite kbbq in Auckland, so much good meat selection, so much yummy cooked dishes, so much mushroom and kimchi. Staff are the most friendly Koreans around and there is very generous space between tables that it's just lovely to eat there!
Emma
Have come here quite a few times now. The most recent visit was just for the lunch buffet which did not include the bbq meats. The selection of cooked foods was rather small and nothing particularly stood out. The Korean fried chicken was good like it always is although a bit bland. In previous visits the meats have been good although the fresh lettuce seems to always be low in numbers. Only 2 options for dessert, some sort of strawberry (raspberry?) cake and sliced oranges. I wasn’t too big a fan of the cinnamon rice drink and prefer the normal rice drinks of other KBBQ places. The service is quick and friendly. Overall it’s a nice place to visit with friends. The food isn’t anything special but the environment is nice and getting to cook your own food is a fun experience.

Went here the other day and because of it's cheap pricing I thoightit might be subpar food. However I was gladly mistaken. Choice of food was good. The meet quality was great for it's price. A variety of sides and mains. Friendly staff. Would definitly want to go back.
Irene
It is one of our favorite Korean BBQ places. We do only the buffet as usually in hurry. Great range of side dishes. Salads, soups, sushi, different types of kimchi! I really enjoy the food. But fried rice was not done well the last time and potato chips felt like they were lying in the pot for ages...
My most worry is that each time we come each time it is becomes more dirty, ventilation does not work well, tables are not tidy and a very thick layer of dust on shelves... If somebody is doing BBQ at the table near yours 100% your hair after the lunch will have that smell of fried pork...
Raymond Tiong
Came here with three friends on a Friday night. There was a decent buffet range to choose from, but I found the quality of food to be rather average.

Likes:
They had a lot of refreshing Korean side dishes made from vegetables – which is great as a counterbalance to all the oily BBQ meat. I also enjoyed their pasta salad and potato salad. Their impressive range of meats to grill included prawns and octopus, but the tastiest cut was the pork belly (as expected).

Dislikes:
Their fried chicken was a bit disappointing, as was the sweet and sour pork – which was lukewarm and dry. The only desserts available were an average tasting cheesecake and some fruit. I also really wish there was plain rice instead of fried rice, as the main attraction of BBQ meat is already going to be oily. The ventilation where we were sitting wasn't great either.

For $29, this joint wasn't bad but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine there again. However, I did find the service to be quite friendly and they change your plates often.

Best Korean buffet we've been to, and trust me, we've been to a lot. Place is nice and clean, food is fresh and good quality, price per person has gone up but there's a larger variety of side dishes now which is great. Real authentic Korean food.
IMwatermelon
I think this one is my second favourite Korean BBQ restaurant. It offer a few meat options, such as beef, lamb, and pork. Funny thing is that they also offer instant coffee and cinnamon water.

These is only one problem:they don't put the oil on the plates, the meat often get burned, so we often have to ask the staffs to change the plate.

Really good place to go if you go with people are meat lover.
Nivi Jain
Food was pretty average...pretty smokey place ... although we booked a table on arrival we were told told to wait as it was full , all in all pretty average
JKG
Good deal for the price you pay. I went here for the lunch deal which for $19 for the buffet. They had a wide spread of kimchi, various salads, noodles and soups. However, the service was a bit poor with the waitress always wearing a frown and answering questions in an irritable manner. Plus, they kept running out of their dessert.
Benz Chan
Food - 4.0
Cleanliness - 3.0
Staff - 3.5
Ambience - 3.0

There was less food selection compared to other Korean buffets. Most of the dishes tasted okay. Their marinated beef stood out for me - although some of the meat were thickly cut that made them tough to chew. There was also limited dessert selection.

The dining floor was greasy and had exposed electrical wires. Plates took ages for staff to collect. Waiters were hardly smiling and could hardly speak English. They were also switching some bbq stoves off even if they were obviously still being used by diners in an effort to conserve butane (they said they were about to run out of butane gas cans).

I definitely had way better dining experience at other Korean buffet restaurants than at 8 Colours.
Blackpearl
A lot of variety in their buffet dishes, which is really good. Different types of salads, and korean staples like kimchi, tteokbokki, kimbap, fried chicken, sweet&sour pork, marinated beef and pork, and all the meats and seafood to grill as much as you like. They provide fruits too as desserts. Definitely one of the better korean bbq restaurants in town. The servers changed the plates lots of times too which is very considerate of them.

Very reasonable :) lacks variety, as there was not a lot to choose from but had a lot of veges such as pickled veg and salads. Two things i didn't really like was there was no signs telling you what some of the foods were, and secondly some of the veges didn't look too fresh. but overall it was pleasant

$25 pp all you can eat korean BBQ!
I recently visited again and I was a little disappointed by their use of frozen pork belly meat but other than that they were still awesome.

extensive range of ready to eat cold and hot food are the best among other bbq buffet places. They are tasty and get filled up promptly.

Meat quality is okay. I especially enjoyed LA ribs.
Good value for its price.
One of favourite place when I want to eat a lot but still seeking for quality

Still wondering how this place has a score of 4!
The cooked food section was awful. The rice was cold! The service was abrupt. The atmosphere was chaotic and hazardous. Wires and power cords exposed (at the back eating area)- seemed like a joke. Sweets at the end were fruits and wafers from a tin.
Saving grace- the bbq was ok.

The interior of 8 colours is very modern and options are good. The cooked options were very yummy which is hard to find at some Korean BBQ buffet places. There are large seating available which makes it perfect if you have a big group. Would certainly recommend this place
I Like Food And I Don't Deny It
By far the best korean bbq buffet i went to. It is money's worth, so if you are on a budget and you want to treat yourself for a big meal go here. The journey to the place is worth it, you will go home full and with a happy tummy😊👍🏼

Food was pretty good, nice selection of BBQ meat as well as pre prepared hot food and a lot of cold dishes. The food area was quite clean and well kept. But the lack of ventilation and exhaust pipes above the BBQ plates made it really uncomfortable to eat, it's really stuffy and hot. My friend was sweating so much he looked like he walked through the rain lol

One of the best korean bbq I've been to. Only eat here when you're starving cz the food is a lot! Well depends on how much you get really but hey, it's a buffet. It's a given. Plus the service is nice :)
Emmelyn Fuentes Rosell
Lots of variety of dishes, uncooked and cooked dishes. The place may be busy on the weekends edpecially after 6pm since the restaurant is near to pubs and other restaurants and quite popular in the area. I recommend to book a table ahead.
Liksya
A wide variety of food. From seafood like prawns and squid to lamb/beef/pork to fruits.
One of the best korean restaurant I have been to. The staff are friendly. The ambience is okay.
Claudine Anne Tan
Among all the korean barbecue buffets i have been, this is the best so far. Me and my husband will definitely be coming back for more. Good service. Great selections.
Daisy
Food is yummy, however more options would be better. The restaurant is clean, the staff are friendly and being helpful. The staff asked how was the food at the end, which not happened often in Asian restaurant. Not easy to find a car part in that area, great to see some car parks are available outside the restaurant.

This establishment, there are some very good points and there are some which my parents, my wife and I all agree they need to work on.

Good points 1st:- (1) I phoned them at about 4pm this afternoon and made a booking originally at about 6:30pm tonight. The girl very good telling me there are 2 sessions. First 1 finishes at 7:30pm and we wouldn't have enough time. Suggest us to come a bit earlier. I really appreciate that kind of customer service; (2) Food is very tasty. A lot of choices of cooked food, and salads; (3) staff changes the BBQ grid quite often.

For those not-so great points. (1) We sat at the back of the restaurant, the ventilation wasn't great at all as they don't have the ventilation system that you find in other Korean BBQ restaurants (2) dessert is nearly none. Only 1 kind and that's sliced orange. Don't get me wrong. I like oranges a lot. But only oranges as dessert? (3) This is a very minor point. As we sat at the back of the restaurant, there are a lot wine bottles as decorations (which is very good). However, I can see very thick layer of dust in every single emptied wine bottles on the shelf.

Clean ish interior and nice selection of side dishes!
Meat was good and overall service was great
One thing is that ventilation is bad as they dont have those fans :S
But for $25/dinner its a pretty sweet deal!
Id come back :)
Really good food! The atmosphere is great, nice staff. Came here with a group of four. The prices are affordable for an average Korean BBQ. No WOW factor but definitely a lovely place to eat when you're on a budget and out with friends
ShoRt
Walked in and was surprised by the funky decor and interior! Was sat down by staff quickly but unfortunately very hard to get hold of their attention to start our bbq.

However the food selection... Made it all better. There was so much cooked food choices and they were all so yummy! Also the raw items were very readily available with quick refills if it is gone. I did think the pork belly was slice very thin but all good still!

I definitely stuffed my face and ate my money's worth :p
This place gets quite busy. They have a decent selection of meats and their banchan aren't bad either. One of the better Korean buffets. I'd have scored it a 4 if it weren't so dirty. Seriously the whole place needs a proper scrub, the toilets are disgusting (and I was there at opening time) .

We had our family Christmas dinner @8colours of Korean last night,,, we've been to quite a few of these Korean BBQ restaurant over the years.... over all this place rates as one of the better Korean BBQ meals we've had recently.... pretty good value along with a pretty. Good selection to choose from.the pre cooked dishers , salads & cook your own meats were plentiful and constantly top up which was a sign of@ good service on a busy Christmas evening, even thou this place is on the other side of town to where we stay,we recommend a visit to this outlet...
Bubbletea
My favorite Korean buffet in North shore. Quite a wide range of food to choose. The potato salad is pretty! The sweet and sour fried pork and soup are tasty. Going to be regular customer. :)
Michelle Chua
One of the best Korean BBQ in north shore. However, service is a little bit slow. Food is still amazing . I'm full from this ! Highly recommended when there is a lot of people :)
Lia Yosaatmadja
I've been here twice now, and i loved it both time! If i don't have to drive all the way to takapuna i would probably eat here every week!! I love it! Quite a wide range of side dishes.. Soups and stews... And they top up their food very regularly!

Definitely one of the best korean bbq i've been to. For $25 per person... I think its good value for money
I Love To Chew Real Food
I am a happy kid! It's really hard to find a good descent Korean BBQ in Auckland. For people who had lived in Korea for quite awhile and missing those yummy bbq nights, I'd suggest to go to this place. However, I think they need to improve their service and add more staff since they have to change the pan every now and then
Elle
Excellent place for $25. Always tidy and busy! From the outside it looks very average but once you walk in it opens up and has a great atmosphere. The meat is great! I love the marinated beef shortribs. There is an array of delicious side dishes! The waiter is very attentive and came to change our bbq grill plate often which you usually don't get and have to get up to ask for a change in other places! Wonderful!
Smilesmile
8colors is best korean bbq buffet in Auckland. I think here meat is not bad but love here side dish really delicious. But weekdays early time food was very cold.
Cajetan
top marks for the price u pay - $25 adult,. Love the selection of cooked foods and the huge variety of salads on offer. Ambience is pretty cool and service is good. Oh they do the BBQ meats you cook yourself as well but i'm too lazy, others that i go with likes that.
Michael Hung
I only wish there is one in East Auckland! This Korean Bbq buffer is good value ! Has nice side dishes and a decent selection of meat. The only thing is the floor, chair, table seems to be a bit greasy....maybe they need to clean the whole place once in a while.
I am a fan of Buffet korean BBQ and I just come here for a try as I have seen a good rate 3.9 of this restaurant.

To be honest, I am so disappointed with things :
1. I was very frustrated with the BBQ stove where we normally can adjust the heat according what we are cooking. I could not adjust it as the waiter told me not to do because it won't work on this stove. So I have to let it burned as a highest heat and had to ask them to change BBQ plate twice within 20 mins!! . However, there were so many available table I can move to with a good stove but they asked me nothing!!!

2. There were so so less choice of meat for your BBQ. And surprisingly!!! there was no chicken!!! again no chicken for BBQ!!! This is the first Korean BBQ buffet I have found this weird thing!!.

3. The sauces were not tasty at all.

I would wonder how this restaurant has got so high rate from reviewers. Are they fake reviewers??

I dare you to give a try on this restaurant and compare with other Korean BBQ buffets in this area. you will know what I am talking about.

Highly no no recommend!!

Cindy Ong
At price of $25 per adult they are serving buffet style Korean BBQ here. There is a hot BBQ grill in the middle of your table, what you have to do is to pick up some meats, veggie from the display counter and cook for yourself.
$25 is including of rice, noodle, veggies, meats, squids, prawns, fruits, coffee and tea.
The environment is clean and ventilation is good.
Booking is essential.

We called to make a reservation I let them know we have a one year old baby that's a little sick and asked to be away from any draft around the restaurant which they provided but the down fall was when we asked on the phone to have a high chair ready. We got there no high chair, they had given it away to someone else I got quite annoyed but the good thing was they managed to get a high chair so I was quite pleased with the outcome. I love how this is a all you can eat restaurant we got to pick a lot of meat rice hot food etc I really enjoyed all the lovely varieties of food I was definitely satisfied and very full by the end of the night. They are always quite busy ( been here 2 times now) done prepared to dine in a full house ! Also the great thing they do compared to other Korean buffet is they change your hot plate regularly which is also a bonus. Will see us again soon ☺️
Nathalie
This is our favourite Korean bbq place! $25 for eat all you can Korean bbq and ambiance is great, place is modern and food quality is excellent. Staff are also friendly and they constantly top up the food. Great place to take out fam bam for dinner as it's easy to find and parking next to it. My only down side is they do not have dessert option (so you are only paying for meat) and they didn't have chicken option mostly beef and pork and shrimp. Overall great place to chill and their ambiance is the best thing for me. Must visit!
Edmond Shen
This korean bbq was pretty standard. You have your meats you can choose from and the various other thing such as ddokbokki and sidedishes. The galbi stood out for me, and as always the sangyeopsal was a good balance of fatty and a good thickness. One problem was the ventilation. It can get quite smokey inside. Also tables are quite small. Regardless still quite a goos korean bbq. Would go again if I was ever in the area.
Luke
Not bad, the selection of cold dishes was good, some you don't see at other bbq restaurant. Sadly i didn't see any mushrooms and marinated chicken. But overall, it was a pretty good, the environment is better than some other restaurant and the staff replace the grill plate quite often.
Yenegh Badimayalew
Reservations have absolutely no meaning here.

They did not even bother to hold us a table. There was no baby seat at all. The restaurant was dim.

All the well lit tables were insufficiently populated (2 people on a 5 people table) by people without reservations.
I specifically rang and asked for a table for 5 so we would enjoy the whole cooking process.

You eat with your eyes... about 70% of the floor is no well lit so you cant enjoy the food as you cook it... Never ever going back there again.... they need to take notes from faro on High Street.

Never recommending this place either... what a waste of time and money ...
Lmrliu74
It's just a bargain with lots of salad varieties, entrees and main dishes. The cold dishes are authentic. Considering that I only paid $18 for that, it's better than what I expected. You can also ask for freshly made eggs to go with the main. It reminds me of what you can get from a 4+ star hotel restaurant. Of course, I would prefer cooking the BBQ meat to my own liking. However, this is the best Korean restaurant in Takapuna.
Queena
Not really a fan of Korean BBQ buffet. But I came here with a bunch of friends cos they wanted to try this place out.

To me, the range wasn't that great -but I probably say that about all the Korean BBQ buffets I've been to. And that's not to say the food here wasn't good.

I think it's average. Service was good. Nice and friendly. They were quite busy on a Sunday night.
SS
Probably one of the best Korean BBQ buffets in Auckland. They have all the usual dishes plus a whole lot more! Their ready cooked meals and sides are impressive - I usually go for the raw BBQ meats at other joints but I found myself enjoying a lot of the ready made food also. I think its the same owners as Faro on Lorne St (which I really like), as they have same style and very similar taste and sides on offer. Seriously good food at a fraction of the price!!

It was definitely quite cool to have a korean bbq exp in a trendy/ modern environment too! Also loved how frequently they changed the BBQ plate!! Some places don’t change it at all, so the whole room becomes smokey and the meat becomes burnt and start sticking.

We left with full bellies not smelling like smokey food so definitely 10/10

Spencer Zhan
A wonderful Korean BBQ place, located city center, very close to the queen street! The food and meat taste good, service good, recommend it and will go there future!
Michelle Hwang
Offers a wide range of Korean food with only $25.00 pp. I like all seafood dishes here and also the beef ribs. But the pork belly is a little thin. So it's very easy to be burnt.
Vivi S
My Korean friends took me to try out a new Korean bbq place in Takapuna. Despite having booked a table we had to wait quite a bit for the table to become free - the place was packed! Finally inside, I was pleasantly surprised at the trendy and, most of all, clean deco. As it was a buffet we could get as many plates of meat cuts and side dishes as we liked, and finished off with fruits.
Wilson Huang
I have been to most Korean bbq establishments in Auckland, this one is definitely on top of the list.

Unlike most Korean bbq places where they usually maximise the potential of the estate by cramming as many tables as possible, 8 colours is very spacious with generous amount of spacing between each table. This place does not have the air vacuum pipe that sits directly over the table but They circumvent the smoky problem by opening the entrant doors. It was a miracle that I got home with minimal bbq smell on my clothes.

Now, the food. What makes this place stands out from the long list of Korean bbq places is its side dishes. They have an array of side dishes, both cold and hot including bulbogi. It is so easy to fill up your stomach with side dishes and then you realise you have not even started with the bbq meats. They have the usual Korean bbq meats including pork belly and marinated beef slices and ribs. All dishes were refilled very quickly by the staff and the bbq plates were changed regularly.

The only downside of this place is the drink cost. Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are slightly above average. Furthermore, if you are sitting on the circular table, be careful not to get burnt by the table stand as it conducts heat from the table bbq.

All in all, this place blows other places out of water. It's closest rivalry is probably Ganam bbq. Highly recommended.
Wendy Zhou
Love this place!!! No smoky at all! Lovely service and nice fresh food! $25 best spent ever;) specially recommend their beef, so tender so good! Also side dishes' just can't stop eating. Although there were chilli squid first time we came, but no sign of them last time.... Overall is 🎉🎉🎉🎉5/5
Jihye Kang
One of the better Korean BBQs out there with a nice selection of side dishes. Meat is frozen but thats expected given that it's a meat buffet.

Gave in to my cravings and decided to try this Korea BBQ restaurant after hearing a few good reviews on it. It's a little tricky getting a parking right outside the place when it's busy as there are a couple of bars and other restaurants along the strip but you can easily get a park on the side of the road. Restaurant is fairly large and full of hustle & bustle that night; however my sister and I were seated fairly quickly by one of the staff.

As with all buffet bbq places, most things are self serviced - food choices were fairly extensive with the usually specialists salads and pickled vegetables, cold cuts/meat and a few pre-prepared dishes like fried chicken, fried rice, ddeokbokki (spicy Korean rice cake), noodles, sweet and spicy pork and so on. You get the idea. I was however a little let down by the dessert table which only contained a few selections of rice crackers and fruit that night

food was delicious with my favorites being the pickled radish, fried rice and pork belly slices which you cook yourself and it's all you can eat! BUT at $25 per person, I can't really say it's the cheapest of Korean bbq especially for those with eyes bigger than their bellies. Service was alright; took us several attempts to get the attention of one of the staff to change our grill plate but to be expected as it was a pretty busy night

I would recommend going at least once to enjoy the atmosphere and food with friends or family if you're into that sort of thing. Book ahead to avoid the waiting line, you won't (hopefully) be disappointed

Best place to enjoy Korean BBQ!
Great selection of side dishes, meat and drinks and so cheap! I always enjoy to dine here with friends and family.

Keep up the good work!
The environment is good amongst Korean BBQ places in Auckland, their cold dishes were pretty good, many choices can't be found in other places. However, their meat were all frozen served, not fresh cut. The quality of meat after roast was terrible thereafter. Their Korean BBQ sauce was extremely salty, in addition. Hot dishes ok, drinks acceptable. Service fast and good.

Overall not recommended.
Brave Eat
Good range of food and meat. customer service was great too. I do wanted to see more range of desserts rather than crackers and fruits as I am a dessert lover but it was a great experience coming here and will comeback again.
Zoe Huang
Very nice internal environment. although they don't have many choices as other Korean barbecue restaurant. I like their beef bone very much it is very tender, juicy and chewy as well. Staff are helpful. They provide efficient service. If they can improve the choice of dessert would be better.

I have been to 8 Colours of Korean BBQ Buffet tonight and I really liked their customer service and the quality of food.
I also tried other Korean Buffet as well, but I never satisfied with the food and customer service until tonight.

8 Colours of Korean BBQ Buffet is providing the customers a delicious food only for $25.
Comparing to the other Korean Buffet, I was quite suprised how cheap it was and how tasty all of them were.

Every seafood I tried was fresh and tasty, even the meat was fantastic.

Even the place has really unique atmosphere, I liked to see how the owner tried to make this place in Korean traditional way.

I will definitely go again.

If you are looking for a restaurant with nice food and good ambiance, 8 Colours of Korean BBQ Buffet is the one!

Went here for dinner on a weeknight:Cool interior.
Wide variety of foods.
Ability to cook meals on your table in a fun social way.
Good price.
Best Korean BBQ of my life...

When I'm in Kiwi land, the simply bottle of Soju and a BBQ Beef Bulgogi is one of my favourite quite little dinners.. 8 Colours raised the bar... a lot..

Normally the idea of a buffet doesn't gel with me, but here I felt like I was on a journey of discovery. I must have only gone through about 1/2 of the different options before finally calling a retreat and declaring my return to finish the job one day.

Check out the crazy ginger punch drink, if you can't find it, ask for it.

Also. Ox tongue was delicious :-)

My partner and i visited this lovely korean buffet restaurant,it was super yummy and we loved the variety they had,we have been to a lot of korean restaurants and this has to be close to the top of our list!! Definitely will be back.

I recognised the location of 8 Colours of Korean BBQ straight away as being part of the old Sin Bin (which I frequented on Uni Pub Crawls, back in the day) and was pleasantly surprised with the look and feel of what they had done with the location.

The décor was simple and tasteful, and had a nice homely vibe to it. Very relaxed.

This was my first experience of Korean BBQ, and I have to say I was EXTREMELY impressed with the options available. I have always been a fan of a good buffet, and this ticked all the boxes!

The options available from the cooked/ready-to-eat buffet section were impeccable and the variety of meats available to cook at your table were fantastic.

I am a man, and I love meat, so the offerings were perfect. The options of finely sliced, thinly cut meat were awesome, with my favourite being the beef tongue.

I definitely recommend, and have recommended 8 Colours of Korean to everyone, and I guarantee I will be back again, and again...

There's good reason why I'm a repeat customer at 8 Colours. The wide variety of meats and side dishes never fails to satisfy my very often Korean BBQ cravings. There's something for everyone - the essential meats for meat lovers like myself, seafood for those who want to enjoy what the sea has to offer, and the side dishes that ranges from different types of kimchi to full meal alternatives. The great thing about 8 Colours of Korean BBQ is it's full buffer offerings that really gives great value for your money. The sky is the limit as long as you're eating only what you can handle. Service is consistently great, with attentive and friendly staff who would help change your grill plate for you. The interior style for the restaurant is also a lot different from your usual BBQ place. It has a very modern twist on traditional Korean design aesthetics - reflecting of the customers that frequent the place, from children to the elderly. The atmosphere is very warm and bustling - a perfect place for the family to get together or have a few drinks of soju and BBQ with friends. Definitely my go-to Korean BBQ in my neighborhood.

This was my first Korean BBQ experience so I didn't know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised and I wish I knew this restaurant opened a few months ago. I know this place to be Bin Bin or Sin Bin which was a club but I'm glad it is now a restaurant.

The place looked pretty cool inside. The ceilings were exposed and half looks like a house. I love the little details of the decor too.

Moving on to the food, there is so much to choose from! This is buffet so you can choose whatever you want. There are heaps of side dishes and also cooked dishes but to fully experience it, you'll have to choose from the meat and seafood selection that you can cook on your table.

My favourite was the marinated meat but all the meat we cooked were good. The side dishes were great too because you get a variety. The already cooked dishes were alright but I liked the beef bulgogi.

Overall, I had a great experience here. This place is great for a group of friends. There is variety so there is something for everyone. I'm already planning on coming back with a few friends in the coming weeks too. I'm glad I was able to discover this place in my area. Craig Ck Koning Daniel

I used to come to this building when it was the Sinn Binn back in the day, I hadn't been here since then and I love what the have done with the place, its quite big!
Loved everything about this restaurant... from the buffet style tables full of cooked and uncooked meats, salads and soup (ready to be cooked to perfection at your table on a custom cooker), to the decorations and ginger korean punch. There were a few people dining when we got there for our Zomato meetup (which is always a good sign).

I loved the salads, seafood and marinated meats, the whole process of picking what you want and then taking it back to your table to fry up is so much fun. I have never done anything like it before.

There is a refreshment station around the corner to the left of the main buffet with fruit slices, biscuits and the tasty Korean ginger punch which I loved (its quite sweet).

Everything I ate was fresh, tasty and delicious and I will definitely be coming back.

First time to this place, all food was really fresh and tasty. Love the 'cook your own' meat and seafood concept, it was a lot of fun. Ambience and decor not your traditional Asian restaurant, they have really funked it up. Will be back!
Elizabeth Harding
Lots of choice & good value for money. Huge selection of vege dishes, and all sorts of meat combos too. Favourite was the marinated beef and also the shredded pre-cooked beef in the buffet. Would def go back.
The place is also decorated very nicely, and has a good ambiance!

You're hoping to try something new when you visit new places and we were a bit disappointed! It was cheap at $18 for lunch.

The menu was the same as all other Koreans BBQ buffets we went to and that was a downer. I didn't touch the meats and just stuck with the sides and salad plus soup. My son stuck with the fried chicken and fried rice.

WeiTing Ashley Shyu
If you enjoy downing a couple of kg's of meat then 8 Colours of Korean BBQ Buffet is for you. 8 Colours is cheap at $25 per head and caters to quite a few people. Isaiah Poupouare held his birthday dinner here last night. This buffet uses cheap cuts of meat with a DIY hot plate. It's not so bad. I did enjoy the marinated beef ribs. They were flavoured beautifully.

Other than that, I can't really say that the food was up to my standards. The side dishes were bland and disappointing. The only one I managed to stomach was the fresh green salad. 8 Colours of Korean BBQ buffet also has a cooked section - beef bugogi was tender and juicy. The other 5 pots with cooked goods, were not as tasty. I was surprised that they had deep fried chicken. The fried chicken was edible, yes, but I just wanted to grab a salt shaker and sprinkle it all over.
FoodiePhysician
Pretty busy korean meat joint with a storage shed/green house layout that seems awfully similar to some places I have been to.

Clean with friendly service, well ventilated and family friendly.

The Good:
- Cheap for a meat buffet, $25 a head
- Decent range of meats 4-5 kinds plus seafood option
- Wide selection of korean side dishes

The Meh:
- Some of the side dishes, although most were fine, were a bit bland. I tried a little bit of everything and was surprised that the most important of them all, the kimchi, was pretty lame. None of the side dishes in particular made me go back for more.

Verdict:
If you like korean bbq and have a delayed satiety that usually stops you from buying meat by the kilo, definitely try this place. Probably has to be in top five korean buffet places in Auckland, and compared to restaurants that sell korean bbq meat by the serving its not a bad alternative. But otherwise, theres not much more than that.

3 Yums
My partner and i were off to GPK for a special occasion then as we parked we decided to try the Korean BBQ.
We were greeted with excitement, promptly show around the buffet available and seated.
Our table BBQ was lit and we were off grabbing al kinds of meats & salads, I'm not the best cook but anything was great in the delicious sauces provided :).
Soon as the BBQ got dirty the promptly change the grill plate!
Had a great night over all!
