Review Gpk Restaurant & Bar - Takapuna

Tyrone Penning
I got a last table deal, and they expected me. It all went down without a hitch. The food was good, and generously portioned; especially the brownie dessert which was more than enough to share! Would definitely go back.

Good food. Went for breakfast. Our coffee was free because it was a Saturday, which is great.

Awesome meal @ GPK Takapuna. Food was amazing and got there $12 Cocktail special on top which was excellent. Will be back definitely.

Came here with my family tonight on a Saturday evening around 7.30pm and when we entered it was empty. We were greeted by a friendly staff member who quickly set us up with a heater by our table. We were a little concerned by the lack of people and it may be a sign of the quality of the restaurant. I ordered smoked chicken salad. Kids had pizza and pasta. Wife had a vegetarian risotto. All of our meals were delicious and it was served in a timely manner. The kids meals came first which was great as they were starving. Mine and the wifes came shortly after. In the end my son asked if we could come back multiple times. We definitely would.

A group of friends and I dined here last week (20 of us total). The service from all of the staff was absolutely fantastic! Each staff member was friendly, happy and professional. The Manager in particular was lovely! He was attentive, efficient and showed genuine care for certain dietary requirements among the table. We were conscious of time as we were going to a Comedy show across the road (and no one wants to show up late for a comedian) and our food came out promptly, all at once and every single person was thrilled with their meals! Thank you for kick starting an enjoyable evening for us all. I will definitely recommend to family and friends when in the area.

My man and I had a cute little date night here. Our dinner was pretty good - fettuccine pasta and the steak we had. Dessert was decent - the choc brownie w/ ice cream. The one staff member that served us was pleasant & has great customer service, a good attitude (Indian chap I think, was standing in as manager) Working in hospo myself I know how gruesome and demanding it can be but this chap was splendid.

Came for dinner on a whim... we had great food and great service. Would definitely come back. It was a cold Saturday night, but there were very few diners there, which was sad. I know that Takapuna has many different eating places, but this one really impressed us (first time there, but will be back).

Me and my family went here to celebrate my birthday, the staff was approachable, explained the menu properly like the servings and what's in it as we have no idea what kind of food they serve. They gave away coloring sheet for kids to make them occupied. They also let us bring in our own cake 😍😍 not like the other restaurants. So accommodating, asks if we need something 😍 will definitely come back here even if we're from south Auckland 👍🏻👍🏻 keep it up guys ♥️

The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. We had a large crowd who were performing in one of the local theatres and had to have quick service and we got it. The food was great too. Throughly recommended this restaurant in Takapuna.

Love the staff and service, even at 10pm at night the staff are happy to serve us take away coffees. (Hard to get coffee late in Takapuna. Love the Pizza's... normally there at least once a week.

Called in for dinner last week.. have been playing around wth some italian recipes and thought we would try their prawn linguini... was very tasty if some \what more liquid than we re used to, plenty of pesto, prawns, cherry toms with a full flavoured sauce.
staff are very helpful with further suggestions and good service.
Always a pleasure to come back to GPK.... see you next time !!
Jay
Love this place! Absolutely amazing staff, very helpful, friendly and attentive. The food was delicious no complaints. Will definitely be popping in again next time I visit Auckland.

I really enjoyed dinner here with my mom.... we had amazing service and amazing food. My mom had the Moroccan chicken and I had the seafood thin base pizza. Iwill definitely come back.

Staff are super friendly and really helpful!
Food is fresh, well presented an delicious!
Steak and pork belly were incredible!
Great night out!

Service was quite rude. The food wasn't worth the money spent on it especially the steak. I would recommend this place. I have no idea how they made money when they are empty all the time...
Mu
Love the chicken liver pate, scallops and crispy pork, steak sirloin was a little bit over cooked but still all good. Next time gonna try their pizza
Denise
Had a quick lunch here on Saturday, just a Margarita pizza and a chicken burger with drinks. Pizza was better than Sals (not as oily) and burger was yum. Service was great, will be going back for sure.

Ate here yesterday, we were the only people in the place, we had a garlic bread base for an entrée, the base was black with soot, the chef must have have been to busy to mop his oven, mains were worse, Bombay chicken pizza base was dirty also, my wife's main was the pork belly and scallops with some sort of puree, the scallops were mush and tasted rank, the pork was ok but you didn't feel like eating any more after tasting the scallops, very poor effort guys especially when we were the only ones there.

We always have a consistently good meal at GPK.
Enjoy going to GPK and find the Manager Steven always friendly.
Some of our favourites are the Pate, GPK selection and the steak is always good.
In fact always go back to GPK when we go to other restaurants on the North Shore and have an average meal!

Use to be our breakfast and lunch spot. The menu tends to never change with prices usually too high. It's a nice place to dine, it just needs some tlc to become a great place once again. It's not the norm to have a great location that is not busy, signs that things need to change.

Pork ribs. Meat was falling off the bone but too sweet and too much sauce for my personal taste. Dining partners enjoyed their pork belly and soup of the day.
I tried the duck. Rich, moist and cooked perfectly with the right accompaniments. My dining friends enjoyed their meals also.
Nice winter meals on a cold evening and a good place to stop before a show as was the case for us.
Very good service also received that evening which always helps the dining out experience.

Place hasn't changed in what seems like 15 years (aside from the addition of the covered outside dining area's), which in this case is not such a great thing.

Needs a serious refurb, decor dated and scruffy. Menu needs updating as well, doesn't seem to have changed in years. Perhaps chef a little bored.

Food so, so. Pizza's are probably their best dishes. Seems expensive for what it is, trading on its past when GPK was possibly one of a very few good restaurants in Takapuna. Now with so much choice in Takapuna, place needs to up its game.

Below average. Dirty plate, toilets had a slap dash paint job. Undercooked pasty entree, under-reduced fettuccine sauce (took it home to reduce it further) far too oily pizza and the side salad seemed like it was strait out of a plastic bag. Service was adequate. Overall the place needs to get its mojo back.
Jan
Average food. Went here on a busy night before a show at the Bruce Mason centre. They were good in accommodating preferences. The people who work here are nice but the chefs need to step their game up and put some love into their meals. Everything tasted like it was made to just get out the kitchen and not to please the customer. Probably wouldn't go again.

Came here after my fussy because of my fussy family. The menu is accommodating to everyone. I got the chicken burger (wish they had a beef burger option!) and I liked it and thought it was a great size. I would prefer them to put a different sauce Rather than the mustard aoli but that's just personal taste. Is pricey but everywhere in taka is so can't complain. Also I wanted to add the service was textbook perfect and it's a great idea to have sparkling water in the middle of the table :)

I've only been here 3-4 times and have always been underwhelmed with the food. The price you pay just doesn't match the quality of food or service you get.

The margherita pizza they serve is very average. I love classic, simple margheritas with mozzarella, E.V.O, basil and quality marinara sauce. This one has parmesan and parsley too, which I didn't like. For the same price you can go to a much nicer Italian restaurant which serves, classic, authentic pizzas.

I wouldn't come here again. The ladies on shift, appeared bored and un-attentive too.

Had an enjoyable experience here recently. 4 course set menu on a grabone voucher. Could not fault the quailty of the food, the fish of the day was snapper and it was fresh and delicious as was the pulled lamb shank. Small portions although to be expected given the circumstances. The real highlight was the shared dessert which consisted of a cheesecake, brownie, doughnuts and licorice icecream. My only criticism would be the delay between each course which did draw things out longer than your standard dining experience. The craft beer is exceedingly expensive although they have a good selection. I would consider returning under normal circumstances.

GPK isn't my favourite but they're not too bad. It's a hit and miss, in my opinion. I remember one experience here, my partner ordered the fettuccine and couldn't finish it because it was far too rich. It's an average restaurant with overpriced food.

We came here with a group of friends a few Saturdays ago, and upon arrival the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had preorganised a set menu before our arrival, which including breads and dips, entrees, mains and shared dessert.
I had an entree of chicken pate which was fantastic followed by pork belly for the main. There was a large gap between meals coming out and some had finished before other meals arrived. But the pork belly came out sizzling hot and was delicious, although was quite oil after cooking, but all in all was delicious.
The dessert platter was the highlight consisting of brownie, ice cream, donuts etc. The donuts were out of this world and they were definitely the talking point of the night :P
In summary a fantastic venue, with lovely staff and delicious food.

Ate on a Friday night with my husband on a grab one voucher. We had booked via email and received a prompt reply confirming availability.

we arrived and were seated quickly, although the restaurant was half full we were seated a foot away from other diners (my pet hate) so we could hear everyone else conversations. The restaurant however was very organised and the set menu was waiting at the table for us. We ordered drinks which arrived quickly and were very nice. The bread starter was lovely also. Both the entrees - pate and mussel fritter and the mains salmon and eye fillet arrived quickly and were delicious. The dessert was a bit slower and the cheesecake and donuts were lovely but the chocolate brownie horrific. Although we were very full so it didn't matter too much.

We were disappointed that when we paid the gentlemen didn't ask how the meal was and the set menu could be clearer that the desert was a platter selection. But all in all close to perfect and we would happily return

GPK is not bad for some decent Western food although it is quite pricy. Had GPK for a friend's birthday and we had the classic spaghetti bolognaise and fettucine! I'm a huge fan for anything creamy so I really enjoyed the classic fettucine (with mushrooms, white wine etc.) but we all agreed that the spaghetti was not worth the money. We also shared a Teriyaki pizza (fusion much?) and it was alright too. The food was good, filling but I'm not sure if I'll go back again.

So hubby and I decided to check this place out for our anniversary dinner, I managed to get a coupon voucher online for shared bread & dips, 2 entrees, 2 mains and a shared dessert.
We were greeted politely and asked for our reservation name (which was Williams) but the lady that took the booking got it wrong.any how we were seated quite quickly and served our drinks. the bread came out promptly and looked cute but maybe for 1 not 2pple. it was a little bun and not the greatest either, it hadn't been kneaded long enough and rested, therefore on the tough side.
entrees arrived and looked lovely but very small.i had the goats cheese salad and hubby had the mussel fritter which was yummy. we waited on mains for a while and when it came i was very under whelmed with my plate, It had the same salad my entree but even smaller, only 1 prawn and a very small piece of over cooked salmon. the waitress asked how it was and i told her it was over slightly so she took it back and the chef kindly cooked another pieces of salmon but this time it was even smaller and a little more salad then the last plate, the skin was burned and the prawn was no justice. I ate it about 5mins,another story with hubbys order, He was pleased with his 6hour cooked pork belly, all the elements he enjoyed. from my view it did look a little on the small side but hey i guess that's what you get. Dessert was really GOOD! we loved all 3 elements, caramel salted fried donut, cheese cake and brownie. we had table that was wobbly through the whole evening which was annoying and waitress took my glass of wine away when i hadn't quite finished. maybe they need ask first before assuming the customer has finish. the decor was fine apart from the hideous fake greenery vine above the main tables. that's just gotta go. overall it was an okay evening but could have been a lot better.

old faithful GPK,
ive always eaten here almost every week. its not fine dinning and it doesn't try to be. the staff remember my order and the wine i like... this is a quality that a lot of restaurants have lost these days

eye fillet on potato gratin with red wine Ju .... my favorite! never lets me down.

my wife tends to have have fish which is always fresh and full of flavor.

lunch time i will always go for the bombay pizza! love it. this is an icon in takapuna and perfect for an after work drink that rolls into dinner. or perfect before a show at the bruce mason

Just recently got a voucher from Grabone for GPK for my husband's birthday thinking that I would give it a go. I must say that the eye fillet and pork belly were cooked to a high standard but both were missing a sauce or any flavor. This pretty much describes the whole meal making the experience very bland. I would have thought this would be very easy!

Nice place. Had a business dinner here. all in all, impressed.
i started with the chilli squid, pretty good, could have done with a bit more chilli. another had the beef cheek, this is what i wish i got, looked delicious. for main i had the twice cooked duck and the other guys went for a fish special. everyone was very happy. the standout was the wine, the Laughing Magpie, will be grabbing a bottle or two of that to have in reserve at home.
prices were reasonable and the staff were nice.
would recommend to a friend.

I enjoyed having lunch here but I wasn't overwhelmed by the place or the food. The staff here are very friendly and attentive and our meals came out fast. However, they asked us for our drinks order but had actually failed to give us the drinks menu to begin with. I ordered the smoked chicken salad and my pal ordered the chicken burger with shoestring fires. The burger looked fresh and my pal said it tasted pretty good. My salad came with avocado, mango chutney, crispy noodles and a curry-style sort of dressing. It gave the salad a nice tandoori sort of flavour. When I first tasted the salad I got a wonderful burst of flavour and I was really impressed. However, on about my fifth mouthful I started to find the salad really dry. The dressing was nice but it's consistency was more paste-like. A more runny sort of dressing would have been nice. Perhaps the addition of capsicum, tomato or cucumber could have lightened the dish up a bit as well. This place has some great lunch specials including 2 courses and a glass of wine for $29.95. I would be keen to go back to do this deal but do feel that for $20, my salad was overpriced for what I got. I'd be keen to go back here sometime and try something else on the menu.

I visited this restaurant yesterday eve 28/01/15. The whole experience was above my expectations. Steve (manager on shift) and his team were superb and the food was very very good indeed. Thanks ladies and gents, I will certainly return.

Great service accommodated a wedding party at a moments notice. Food was beautifully presented and tasted great. Would definitely visit again.

Went for dinner here on a friday night. Was hurried through by staff and not impressed with the food.

If I could I'd give this -1 star.
Very dissapointing, even more so because it was my sister's and my own birthday dinner.
We asked several times where our starters were and after the third time being told it'd be out in a minute I timed the waitress. 45mins.. we had already waited half an hour since ordering.
To make this worse the starter we waited for was raw fish so it didn't have to even be cooked.
Waited another 30mins for out mains. By this time a table of four and a table of two had been seated given their starters mains and their desserts came out before our mains showed up.
Really really unimpressed.

My wife and I went for dinner last Saturday night. Nice and pleasant soft atmosphere, and great customer service both manager and staff, very attentive. We sat outside as the noise was a little high inside. We had bought a voucher which included Entree, Mains and Dessert. It was well worth more then the price. We asked the chef to make the chicken hot pot and pan fried snapper a little spicy and it was indeed delicious. Dessert platter was nice as well.

Good atmosphere. Good music playing at a good volume. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Good menu selection. Good range of kiwi beers. Wonderful garlic bread. Few small problems. The pasta that we ordered was supposed to contain basil, but came with rocket. Table slightly too small for two people, and very wobbly.
Cheryl Stones
Given that this place is listed as a gold class restaurant in the entertainment book, we had high hopes. That is where the good vibes ended. The restaurant feels more like a trying too hard cafe with fake leather chairs and uneven wooden tables. $20 for a bowl of dried out salad leaves, 4 minuscule balls of 'baby' beetroot, and a teaspoon serving of goats cheese amounts to little more than a side salad, not the main course it's listed as. The pizza bread with garlic and cracked pepper at $10 equally saw us being ripped off. I can't even say the service was any good and certainly won't be back there, or any GPK for that matter.
David Boshier
We headed along for a quick Friday lunch of pizza and a few wines. The service was fast with our order taken and wine on the table in no time.

It was hard to go past the Bombay pizza if not for its taste, but the impact it had on Auckland pizza dinning all those years back.

Not cheap, so take the company credit card.
Roger Johnson
Bit of a shocker. We waited over an hour for two pizzas. Upon enquiry, we were told that there had been a lot of take-away orders and that the chef was new. Both pizzas were poor. One appeared overcooked even after return to the kitchen, and the other lacked some of the stated ingredients. We were refunded some of the charge but is this a good reason to go there?

We have come to this restaurant quite frequently over the years but after last night's experience, never again! I ordered the market fish which I was told was schnapper. I asked if it was NZ schnapper and was told that was what the supplier had told them. Alarm bells should have rung, but I ordered it anyway. It was definitely not a NZ fish, it had a strong smell, was extremely smooth and white and tasted awful. Very disappointing. The waiter asked what was wrong and I explained. I was offered another dish but by that stage couldn't be bothered and just asked for it to be removed from the bill. The maitre' de came over later and told me they had made a mistake and given me the John Dory, however I don't think it was that either. We were offered free desserts to try and compensate, but this was a very disappointing experience and I don't think they were telling the truth about the fish. This restaurant has definitely gone downhill and we won't ever go back.

Me and my partner came here for dinner on Tuesday night. Not what I would class as my kind of restaurant to go to but my partner wanted to try it. They were very busy but our meals came out quickly. Their capacity to help us choose a nice wine was excellent as my wine knowledge is limited to red or white I had a scotch steak and my partner had the fish of the day with some sides. The drinks came out in like 5 minutes and the meals were sent to us about 15 minutes after ordering. I was very impressed with the quality of service and food. I assumed it would be stuffy and pompous but was gladly surprised at how I was made to feel welcomed and comfortable. We didn't stay long because there were a few kids with their parents from the beach series down the road. All in all it was a very good night out and money well spent :)

Was expecting a really good meal but it failed on several key points sadly.
Number 1 fail: The Pinot Noir I first ordered was either a really bad wine or it wasn't a Pinot Noir at all - which is what I suspected, but it could just have been a bad wine. However, after one sip they did replace it with a reasonable PN.
Number 2 fail: I wanted to splash out tonight and ordered the 30 days aged Hawkes Bay sirloin WAGYU sirloin. What a disappointment! No better than one I could have cooked on my BBQ at home and not once did the staff ask how my meal was! After spending $57 on a steak I expected someone to ask me how it was!
Number 3 fail: At around 7.30pm a party of around 8 adults and 12 kids under 11 years arrived and and the noise level reached that of an afternoon at the local circus coming to town!
Not acceptable at that time of the evening with patrons being couples and groups of adults who want to enjoy their meal.
When questioned, the staff explained there was a competition running for free pizzas for kids on Tuesdays! So don't go on a Tuesday if you want a peaceful dining experience!
So all up, I paid for my meal of one mains with 2 sides and 4 glasses of wine $116 and I don't feel that was value for money at all.

The pity was that none of the staff - even at the till - asked me how my meal was!

I did say it was disappointing to have the large table of young children making so much noise and that my steak wasn't as good as I hoped, but my comments barely registered any interest.

Not somewhere I will rush back to in a hurry!

Manager - if you read this, you are welcome to respond. Just please don't explain it away by saying how busy you were! Not good enough I'm afraid.
Victoria McPherson
This place used to be our local and we would dine here usually once a week. About 6 months ago or so it all changed and is now a poor experience. Formica tables, amateur service and patchy food. Have given it a couple of chances but won't bother again after another bad experience last night.
Kaidee Hesford
We have been to this restaurant a few times lately and we can't fault them at all! The Food was fantastic and staff were great! Highly recommend this restaurant!

We went without making a booking and although they were very busy the were able to accommodate us without any hassle!

Food is off high standard! Recommend the prawn pasta and pork belly!!!
Dugald MacDonald
It's been a while since I ate at GPK. It'll be a long time before I go back.
I ordered the Greek pizza. It was lacking any real taste. There was no discernible sauce, just a bunch of veg put on top of bland pizza bread. I had to go in hunt of salt and pepper to try and save the dish.
The feta on it's own was pretty tasteless. The spinach was glued together in chewy balls. The infrequent slices of tomatoes exploded with delicious flavour... but there were far too few to provide a hint of a sauce for the rest of the dish..

Came here with a friend ~ a month back as thought the pizzas sounded good. I ordered the duck pizza and it came out cold and greasy. Normally, I would have to exercise really good self control in order to not finish a pizza but this time, left over half the pizza. Disappointing - especially as it was costly
Barbara Goldie
We went in for a lunch because pizza sounded good. The lunch menu was quite pricy and loaded with lots of food (most of it seafood) that didn't appeal to our palates. We just wanted a good old fashioned hawaiian pizza, and ordered one off the regular menu. Unfortunately, we found the toppings to be a bit unbalanced. It basically was like an onion pizza, with about 6-8 pieces of pineapple and ham scattered around so sparingly you were lucky to get one piece per slice. Meanwhile we were picking onion off like crazy. Not too impressed, but everyone else eating their fancy meals looked satisfied. Perhaps a bit out of our element here, but doubt we'll go back :/
Mark Goldie
Costly manu options and good/passing quality of food. The menu was a bit eclectic for our tastes but nice enough place. Worth mentioning we came for lunch not dinner.
Ariana Simeon
We dined at the Takapuna restaurant last night.

Our drinks order was taken - in nearly 4 hours this was the only time.

The waitering staff seemed inexperienced - laying the cutlery after the meals had been delivered and not bringing or asking if I wanted tomato sauce with my fries.

We were asked if we were in a hurry - after saying no it took over an hour for the meals to arrive. Obviously the store was busy so we were relieving some pressure on the staff. But not once were we asked for another drink or given something complementary to chew over while waiting for the mains to arrive.

Oh the 2 fish specials and 2 pizza's were cold.

For this bad service and food the only discount we received was that from the Entertainment Book.
Olivia Burden
Choose this restaurant from my Entertainment book. I rang early afternoon and booked a table for 2 but when we showed up the young waitress said very sarcastically that they didn't take bookings for 2 and just walked away. The manager hastily came along and very politely showed us to the only tables available which were outside. This was ok as it was under a heater but if I had of known we were outside I would of worn a warmer jacket.
My boyfriend and I had our drinks order taken and were left sitting for a while before someone came to take our food order, a different waitress from the one at the front desk thank god. She was lovely but failed to tell us any of the specials or about how to order off the grill menu. I ordered the pork belly and my boyfriend ordered the eye fillet off the grill menu. Both meals were great! Again, service lacked here as no one came to check on our meals.
Over all, service wasn't very good and meals were a little overprice. Our voucher gave us 25% off the bill, so at that price it was good value but I wouldn't go again and pay full price.
Shady
Haven't been here for 2-3 months, but have been a regular over the years. We've always found it great - brunch, lunch, dinner and takeaways. For our family of 6 - all with different tastes, the variety on the menu meant there was always something for everyone, and no-one ever complained. I would agree with a commenter regarding the decor being a bit old. I would suggest perhaps the proprieters check out what the other restaurants' pizzas are like - because I think GPK could do better.
Steve
It has never disappointed and always been of a very high standard. Went a couple of weekends ago with some friends for dinner. The oven roasted hapuka served on fresh asparagus was absolutely delicious! The pizza, steak and pasta could not be faulted. Food awesome and great service to match. We had a fantastic time.
Jodie Anne Dix
Ordered 2 pizza's here the other night as I felt like pizza that was a bit more flash than pizza hut and their website said they were voted best pizza in Auckland...Pizza was absolutely disgusting- mine was the Spanish pizza which was so covered in anchovy it was inedible- Boyfriend got some pizza with spuds on it which was very average. Pizza was thrown into box with no care and one side was all squashed up and bent- ordered pizza bread as well and 3 slices of this were just tossed on top of pizza.
All in all it was absolutely disgusting for the price- next time I want a fancy looking pizza I'll just order from Domino's ''gourmet'' menu- half the price and much tastier than this crap.
Claire Buckley
I eat here semi-regularly. BUT I wish someone would teach the chef how to shuck oysters. I have ordered the oysters twice and on both occasions they were so poorly shucked, it was disgusting considering the price. There is nothing worse than eating oysters and getting a mouthful of broken shell. Also whoever is plating cannot count. Once I got 11 oysters and on the second occasion I got 13 I guess is balances - but really? Interestingly no one asked us how our meals were. Not even the disinterested maitre'd.
Linda
Went with a small group of friends. Between the five of us, we ordered 3 of the wood-fried pizzas: Bombay, Country and Tuscany. They were all great in flavour especially the Country pizza. Thought the Bombay pizza was a bit weird as it had banana on top, but that didn't stop us from eating all of it! Also ordered two plates of the garlic bread as starter. Was a bit greasy than what we were used too but still tasted fantastic. Service for our table was slow that night, but it seemed like they were having a busy night. Would go there again and try out different things on the menu.
Sallyl
The service was terrible, they took a very long time to attend to us and the place was pretty empty, when they finally did they were rude and patronising. The food was mediocre at best, especially the creamed spinach side dish, no flavour at all. My pizza tasted like something from the pizza hut menu. Will not be going back, overpriced for what it is and overall a disappointing experience.
Geoff
Visited on a weeknight with five other family members. The restaurant was almost full, but plenty of staff were on hand. Our table was ready but we were offered the option of having a drink at the bar first or head straight to the table (we went for the second option). The waitress was very good with good knowledge of the entire menu and polite service etiquette. A few members at our table had specific meal requirements, and the waitress was able to clearly understand these and make sure our meals were ordered and delivered exactly how we desired. As for the food, a solid A! Steaks, pizza and fish were all delivered with great presentation in generously satisfying serving sizes.
A tasty wine list topped off the meal. We all left very happy and looking forward to our next meal at GPK.

I enjoyed a fantastic calamari dish at GPK Takapuna last week. Service was quick and friendly and the meal was divine. Calamari on a bed of risotto which was cooked to perfection. Wine list is great with lots of choice. Great place to dine!
Jamie
My husband and I are regulars at GPK, we haven't visited for a while but went back last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The bar was pumping! The new cocktail and tapas menu was excellent, and as usual the staff where friendly and helpful. There where a few changes to the menu but was grateful my old fav, the bombay pizza was as good as ever and my husband tried the new duck dish and loved it... Highly recommend to all!
Sylvia
i came here for my birthday breakfast with my friend and i left almost in tears. the waiter who took us to our table was incredibly condescending and patronising and our food was just horrible. i will never go back to any gpk restaurant.
Karin Le Roux
This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. My partner and I went for a friend's birthday. I was not very hungry, so I ordered the clam risotto. It was the worst risotto I have ever had, the rice was not the right consistency and tasted like sea water. I like my food salty, probably more salty than the average person, but this was just horrific. My guess is that they didn't rinse the clams and just reheated premade risotto. My partner had a pizza which was not as terrible, but lacked toppings.
Liz Manson
We have eaten here for dinner and in Ponsonby 2 times and loved the service and food.
Went to Brunch on Sunday waited 3/4 hour for food when the place was pretty empty...food was not how it was on the menu, pancakes dry maybe a heaped tablespoon of bacon on the top with half a small banana. Spanish omelet was a plain omelet with sliced cold potato and raw veges and yellow salad placed on top. We left most of the food on our plate....and wont go back there again to take friends....

What ever happened to the good old GPK days? Seems like service has slipped and those customer service levels are almost non existent. The only thing that's changed is their prices which seem to have gone up a lot over the years. Easy enough location to find and very central to all the great bars located in Takapuna. Small amount of outdoor seating areas although gets quite cold out there! Be sure to ask for a heater. The menu is the same old, same old and nothing on the menu will really blow your mind. They're quite safe with that. However order the steak if you love red meat, they tend to do a good job there!

food was average, the mains was a disappointing, the treat me voucher said its angus sirloin 200gm, the one we had does not look like angus, its tough chewy and kindda tasted like its been frozen for a while.

The starters and desserts were good, The waitresses look like they need to be there and need to smile and be more engaging with the customers, they have this standoffish approach to the customers.. If you asked me im not going back there again...If you are in the hospitality indutsry and the competition is fierce, You need to make sure that you have all these areas addressed. otherwise you wont last long
