Review Kabana Indian Cuisine - Takapuna

Food was great as well as the ambiance. The Hot n Sour chicken soup was the best I feel. Worth it

Food was really awesome and we really enjoyed it! Service is not that good. They even charged a dollar for the container given to take away the left over Biryani!!

I am a tough customer, but after numerous outstanding meals at this eatery it has fast become my favourite Indian in Auckland. The food is consistently excellent, tasty and fresh. You will not be disappointed!

My family and I a great time eating delicious food in Kabana restaurant. The customer service was outstanding, and the food was exactly what I was looking for. The staff were committed to a great service. The atmosphere was relaxed and I liked a very modern style of authentic Indian cuisine. Most importantly, every food and drink on the menu tasted delicious.

Oh my , absolutely delicious curries . Everything is clean and well presented in the restaurant area . Service is swift which is great , they seem well organised. I had chicken korma mild and my partner had Rohan josh . We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Consistently great food. Fantastic prices and lovely staff. This is our number one curry spot in Auckland, hands down.

We loved everything! Excellent service, clean and attractive, tantalising aromas. Spicy chai hot and comforting. Ate recommended delicious fish in chick pea batter, chicken biryani, butter chicken, plain rice, Kashmiri naan, potato paratha. All perfect on a cold evening. Attention to detail obvious!! Of course the 3 of us needed a dogee bag - too good to wasre! Thankyou! Mary

Thank you for a great meal Visiting New Zealand for sad reasons but this meal was a lovely positive, nice and spicy

The food is always fantastic and fresh. The lamb is also very high quality - actual chunks of melt-in-your-mouth meat rather then dry sinew as so many other places have Our personal favourite would be the tandoori fish, lamb sagwala, and chicken biryani

Absolutely wonderful! Great vegetarian options, delicious panner that’s so soft and bigger than the tiny cubes you get else where. Hats off to the chefs, you guys are just stunners xx

Top notch service. Food generous portions and lovely flavours. Best garlic and cheese naan we have tasted. My husband loves cheese and they delivered. Definitely will be our favourite local restaurant. Love plenty of parking out the back

Have been coming here for several years and the food is consistently excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. One of the best Indian restaurants around.

Good food. Good service. Great price. Happy to accept Zomato. Local to where I live. I will go again.

Butter chicken was delicious, best I’ve had in Auckland and will definitely return for that reason. Tasty menu and friendly service. Ambience is pretty modest. We didn’t realize we couldn’t use gold benefits on the tandoori platter, but know better for next time and we were overall very pleased with our dining experience.

Food was outstanding, it was a little quiet, but the service was attentive. The naans were amazing, and we had lamb curries. Good quality food, spiced well. Wish I lived around the corner, I'd go twice a week.

My review would be based on the quality of the meals only since we got our dinner delivered and it arrived 15 mins late.
We ordered Chicken Sagwala and Lamb Madras both extremely tasteless and needed a good touch of salt (I don't usually add salt) and there were hairs in the Madras curry, not one, but two long black ones.
The garlic cheese Nan tasted like it was sitting in the kitchen for a good few days. Really disappointed.

I wasn't very expected to be honest but I loved this place.I'll definitely visit again to try the other menu.
So many choices anx also a lot of vegetarian options!!
Price is very reasonable, big potion, taste really good!! Staffs are very friendly.
I really recomend this lndian restaurant!!
Cheese garlic naan was so good!!!

Rating : 2.5
Ordered a takeaway for chicken biryani. The portion was huge, enough for two people. The presentation of the food was ok, the taste of the biryani is average.

Special mention about the restaurant staff who were not friendly and co-operative to the customers in menu selection and not accomodating to the requests of customers. This ruined our experience and impression on this place🙁

A great local takeaway option and finally a place that doesn’t question when you ask for hot!
Ordered a hot butter chicken which was amazing and the tandoori chicken had flavour to boot! Thought it was great they still advised it would be a slightly sweet curry even if we ordered it hot.
Also a lamb Madras which was also flavoursome with coconut!
Garlic naan was only slight let down as it was a bit dry and thick at ends for my liking but still tasty and great for dunking in the sauce!
Will be back to try more options soon!

Have been back many times and love it-the vege samosas are the best I have ever had!

Absolutely Amazing.
Came here for the first time with my partner as I was craving indian food, the lady showed us to our table but it was cold so she let us chose our own table.
Very fast with water and complimentary poppadoms which were nice.
The food was outstanding!
We ordered onion bahji, which came with two sauces mint and chutney.
I ordered the butter chicken (lol classic) which cimes with rice and I ordered the plain naan.
My partner ordered the Mutton Curry with rice and cheese and garlic naan.
ALL of these items were outstanding. Naan was so fresh and soft and flavourful and perfect because our curries were piping hot and so creamy and delicious especially the mutton curry absolutely amazing!!! I also loved the onion bahji so yum and so delicious with the chutney.
I was really really imprressed. She also checked on us and made sure everything was okay. Which i liked.
I will definitely be back!

One of the worst place ever and place stinks like garbage truck. Owner or if he was manager was full of attitude which was good for nothing. Saw him talking to someone and using abusive language in front of our young ones.
Will never go back neither recommend anyone.
Cheers.

The service could be more pleasant when customer is not entirely happy with the situation. When they give wait times for takeaway meals phoned in, they need to be accurate, instead of understate the wait time. Otherwise what is the benefit of ringing to order when you still have to wait in the restaurant when picking up! So much good competition in the area, will go elsewhere next time.
Jessica
Had takeaway dinner from here last night and it was really good. I got the classic butter chicken and plain naan bread. They were really friendly service when I went in to pick up the food and didn't take long at all for them to make it. If you live around the area and are keen for Indian takeaways, defiantly would recommend.

One of the best Indian restaurants I've tried! Every single dish we've had so far has been incredible. So delicious! 10/10. Can't wait to get back and order some more dishes.

I went there on Saturday night after finishing work after having phoned my order through. When I arrived it was waiting for me. I found the food to be very tasty and not too spicy even for a dicky stomach like mine. I will be back there in the not too distant future. Not expensive. 😊

Me and my husband were recommended this place - and we were not disappointed! We ordered food for delivery, which was on time and hot. The food itself was delicious, and would personally recommend the lamb vindaloo - certainly one of the best I've tried. Kabana, you've got yourself some new regulars!

I had a very enjoyable evening here at kabana. I came with my family for my sister's bday and the staff was very friendly and inviting.

The food was also delicious we tried a few different dishes and felt satisfied. I also tried the mango lassi and since then I've loved this drink.

This is a place I would recommend to a lot of my friends who loves spices

Went for lunch (on a Friday) as this is a short walk from the office. The menu is pretty standard Indian takeaway/restaurant fare. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala.

The interior is fairly basic but the leather chairs were comfortable and everything appeared to be clean and tidy. It was empty aside from our party of 3.

Service was prompt and friendly, food was of good quality and fresh taste. My only complaint is that the curry could have used more chilli - I had asked for hot but I would call my meal "mild" at best. Poppadums were complimentary and the server noted we had used all the rice and promptly offered more.

Would dine here again for sure.

Had dinner in kabana... Awesome food, good service. Lovely atmosphere. I had a chicken tikka masala so yummy. It's very good deal for 13$ curry rice and nan bread. I love this place it's my best place. I don't know why they not busy so lovely. Once again thanks all staff members very good. Service so lovely. I will c u next week.

This is our closest curry place and I'm glad it is. I haven't eaten inside the restaurant but we've ordered takeaways multiple times since its within walking distance to us.

I've never been disappointed with the food from here. Our latest order was last night and we got 4 curries: mango chicken, chicken tikka masala, korma and shajahani (not sure if that's the right spelling) and some plain and cheese naan.

I was told it was 20-25mins which was great and it was ready when we got to the restaurant to pick it up. I really like that they give you complimentary poppadums with your order.

Our curries were great and there were heaps of meat so they didn't scrimp on that. The sauces were flavoursome and were just the right spice/heat as well. Our naans were great. They were fluffy, soft and perfectly cooked. Some naans I've tried are on the burnt side but this place has got it perfect. The poppadums were also great.

Overall the food was excellent and only costed us $65 for 4 people. They even have cheaper mains from mon-wed.
Picky Diner
On the basis of the quality and freshness Indian flavours in the Punjabi chicken curry I took away, I would give this full marks to this place. Staff were courteous, but the place could do well with a facelift. All the best!

Fair priced, authentic indian food...service is average..with lots of servers..in a small resturant but they are busy with themselves..but ..great food and worth its price...decor average..lots of parking at back...usually busy with takeaways as compared to dine - ins

Fast service!!!

We ordered deliveries 3-4 times from this restaurant. The delivery is really fast as compared to other cuisines. The curries are very tasty as well.

Under New Management, has specials on between Sunday and Wednesday - All mains $10.99.
To try it out, just ordered takeaway food, very happy with what we ordered, and the food was well presented and tasty.
Staff were friendly and made us feel welcome, the place has had a face lift and looks really good inside, will be back next time to dine in their restaurant.
Great to have decent Indian Cuisine on our doorstep!
Helen
We used to love this little restaurant. Not any more. When we first walked in we noted it looked a lot brighter, a coat of paint on the walls and thought good things were to come but no. It appears to be run by a lady and a couple of school kids. The menu itself is badly copy and pasted with massive errors throughout. The 'lamb rogan josh' was heavily over salted and was actually beef. The 'wait staff' were two young girls who had absolutely no idea how to wait a table, one of our group asked for coffee - and even though it was on the menu they didn't actually have any. We were never asked if we wanted dessert. We weren't asked if we wanted more drinks after the first one. Most of the food was ok, but the service was really awful.

I have ordered takeaway from this restaurant a dozen times in the last year. It is just fantastic. good value, great taste.

The restaurant itself is a bit underwhelming yet great if you just want a quiet night out.

GOOD POINTS:
- The food is good quality with nice flavours.
- The friendliness of the owners is great. That makes a big difference.
- decor quite good. Gives a proper Indian atmosphere.
- cudos for offering the deal vouchers.

BAD POINTS:
- The restaurant itself is rather small and a little claustrophobic.

OVERALL:
A good, little local Indian. Great people and good food at the right price. Would I come back here ? - absolutely.

I have to disagree most strongly with all the other reviews for Kabana, the most recent of which is nearly two years old. Perhaps the place has had a change of management. I struggle to find nice things to say about this restaurant.

The meal started off badly when I asked the ditzy waitress if they offered pakoras, which were not on the menu. She didn't know what they were. She also didn't know what I wanted when I ordered chai, even though it was on the menu.

Being vegetarian, we didn't expect a large menu, but the korma was dreadful. The "vegetables" were corn, peas and carrots, obviously just removed from a frozen plastic bag like you can purchase at New World. There was not a hint of cashew in the sauce. In fact, there was not a hint of Indian spices in anything.

The second dish, a biryani, was equally uninteresting, with more frozen vegetables and no Indian spices.

If you think that traditional New Zealand cuisine is spicy and exciting, you may find this place interesting. If you like authentic Indian food, try someplace else.

A great little indian eating house. Cheap and cheerful! A+
Lisa
I have eaten here dining in and takeaway many times in the last 3 years and the food is consistently delicious and the prices are great, I have always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. It's not flashy but still pleasent and a nice place to dine.
Callum
One of the better indian places to eat.. service is ok/good, small intimate place, not too flashy but pleasent, about what you'd expect for the price.. I've eaten there several times and the food has been top notch, certain a lot better than most
Erica
This place is one of the worst place I have ever eaten in. I went there with my indian friends and they told me that those foods that are served there are not indian foods and lack of indian flavours.
The attitude of the waiting staff was not very pleasant and was really hard to get any new orders since the staff's attention was not on the customers.
THis day was not a very busy day, so I would expect more value, quality and attention in the future.
