You always wonder whether or not you’re getting a deal when you grab a voucher. In this case it was a pleasant surprise. The place was clean and staff welcoming. Having brought a friend we ordered one each of the sample beer platter. One dark and one light. All were delicious. I recommend the dark beers. When our burger and chips arrived I was very happy with the portions provided and the time that it took to arrive. You can always tell that it’s a good burger when you have to go to the bathroom to wash the delicious mess from your face and hands. Prices and the menu is more than reasonable, having grabbed the deal online made it a bargain.

Used the Grab One voucher,3 course meal from set menu, 5 or more choices for each course which catered for all tastes, the voucher was for 6, my son made 7 and they were fine with us paying for him separately. Food was excellent, service very friendly and accommodating, service was fast. We were put on a long table, but was quite thin which made conversation easier but still plenty of room for the dishes. Everyone loved their food. Highly recommended

We booked here with a grab one voucher for a table of 6 very happy customers left after dinner, the wait staff were very attentive and made sure we were comfortable, the atmosphere was wicked a live band was playing which made the experience even better. would like to compliment the chef again for the hundredth time food was that good!!! We will definitely be back here again. thank yous

A very unassuming venue with stellar food (waffle chicken burger gets a special mention!). We went on a very quiet evening. Service was excellent. We would definitely be keen to head back to try something else on the expansive menu!

The platter is worth it but the other dishes are a hit and miss for me. The salad had a bit too much dressing. Overall, it's a nice place for eating out.

Lovely Steak. Been a regular here specially for their $15 Steak Wednesday. Good place to hang out.

Excellent service and food is amazing. Had their 1kg spare ribs. Worth every cent. Couldn't finish it though cause the amazing Mississippi Buffalo wings took up most of the space.

Very generous servings, we were here on Mussel Mondays $13 per pot! The thai sauce is actually really good! Mariniere sauce was a little underwhelming but the mussels themselves still tasted great. The chunky fries were delish and fried well! We got the mushroom fritter and it was very colourful and filled with all sorts of vege but underseasoned. Heads up, you can’t use zomato in conjunction with the daily deals! Great beers on tap too!

Have been here for breakfast and dinner and both times it has been great. The staff are very friendly and it is in a good location in Takapuna. Food and drink options are great and you can often nab yourself a cheaper drink or meal if you go at the night times when they have their daily specials on.

Massive portions! Great pub food and surprisingly bright and well lit interior. Went on a Sunday and me and the girls were able to have a great catch up without the pub craze of a friday or saturday night. Best of both world.

This is our second time dining at this restaurant. As with the first time, we are very pleased with the quality of food and excellent service. The prices are also reasonable. We requested for a cola beer and although it was not on the menu, they served us with a delicious cola beer. We love the joyful ambience and good music. One of the best restaurants in the North Shore.

Came here for a birthday dinner with a friend. Food is great but the highlight is definitely the service. Waiter was very polite and attentive.

Great dinner night out with the girls celebrating my friend’s birthday. Friendly service and very accommodating. The food was delicious and good portion sizes as well. The steak was slightly burnt but we didn’t make a fuss. <br/>We couldn’t finish all our food as we’re not really big eaters. We used the 3 course meal with wine for $199 GrabOne voucher for 4 people but a 2 course meal would have been enough for us. Would definitely recommend this place and use the GrabOne deal, good value for your money. <br/>Thanks again team!

Best place for a sneaky date. Great atmosphere, excellent live band (after 7pm) and of course DELICIOUS food. We ordered Beer Batter Fries, Vension Bruschetta, Pulled Pork Sliders and Buttermilk Chicken Tenders. The Vension was definitely the stand out dish for the night. Will be back with the family.

Used our gold membership at this place. We ordered the chicken Parmesan and pork cutlet. They sent out the wrong dish (pork belly instead of cutler) but it tasted great so we didn’t mind! They offered to give us a drink on the house due to their mistake :) <br/>The food was really nice but I think for the price, portion sizes are a bit small. Great service and entertainment (live music on fridays)!

Went here for dinner tonight, with voucher. A really nice experience, could of done with a few more skins for the price, but overall.. Yum! Got the chicken parmigiana with fries and side salad. Wish I could of fitted dessert... Not sure why some reviews are not nice?? Would happily go back again. Thanx.

Had been a bit apprehensive given other reviews but were pleasantly surprised. Meals were tasty (ribs and mussels) and of good portion size. I really enjoyed the accompaniments with the ribs. A tad overpriced but we had zomato gold which made it worthwhile. Reasonable large brewery beverage selection.

I had been here when they first rebranded and the food was so so. Came in today with my son for lunch.. he had the master burger and we shared the pork belly and nachos.. his burger was pretty good.. not a home made pattie but not bad.. the pork belly however was sooo dry.. and honestly tasted old.. the nachos were tragic.. barely any topping..store bought guacamole.. just very underwhelming.. the guy serving was fabulous.. despite the fact on a Saturday lunch was running the bar and restaurant single handed.. sorry to say the food is just not that good<br/>

This is the third time I have been here and we have had a lovely meal each time. The staff are very friendly and efficient. <br/>The chicken Caesar salad was excellent and would also recommend the pie. <br/>

I ordered a farmhouse pie. The mashed potatoes were buttery and met my expectations. The beef and bacon were drowned in thick gravy, which mixed well with the mashed potatoes. Everything seems to be great and I would have given a much higher rating if they had learnt how to cook peas properly. To my biggest shock, there were some raw peas!!! The timing for cooking peas is important. Their chef should try harder next time!

I live in local area and visited this place was first time on Sunday dinner. The place was almost empty, I had Fish Pie $22on the menu.<br/><br/>My fish pie looks like hospital meal. I had thick mash potato top layer, well almost mash potato this pie, and I could not find any FISH in my fish pie. I had some chunk of mussels bottom only. I unlocked Zomato Gold, so maybe they did not give me any fish? I felt very sad.<br/><br/>Even one meal is free, I was not happy. If you have to pay $22 for this, think how you feel. One staff was there, but he did not greet us at all whole time. I read other reviews, I think I was unlucky for the meal and service. However once was enough. There are many eating places this area.<br/><br/>I tried to attach the my sad hospital meal fish pie photo, but Zomato website did not let me do.

We went to Master & Apprentice because they offered Zomato Gold 1+1 on food. We chose the 500gram rump steak which came with crispy onion rings and delicious beer battered chips. We were absolutely blown away by the amount of food and how well everything tasted. Best beer battered chips I have ever had! The staff were really pleasant and often checked up on us. Definitely value for money and even better if you are getting one meal for free. Highly recommend!

We had a last minute meal here recently.  We wanted a home cooked style meal as we were missing english 'pub grub' and got just what we wanted with their tasty Casserole and also the Beef Pie both were delicious, hearty and warming.  It was served piping hot with plenty of veges and was really tasty.  The price was the top of what I would expect to pay, for pub grub style food but I did see that they do offers throughout the week for other things.  We will definately be returning soon. Service was friendly and prompt too.  Only thing lacking was salt and pepper!.

Nice setting, we ordered 4 tapas. My favourite out of them being the pulled pork sliders. 🍔 the other 3 were just the run of the mill bar snacks but fast service which was nice. 3/5 stars from me.

Friendly staff 1 star + location 1 star, total 2. Went here in a Sunday morning, only seen a few ppl (3 tables including us), waited for almost one hour. Everything on the Meat platter was dry and salty. Been given one cup of coffee for free, still not enough to offset the time and money wasted. Was my first and last visit.

A good thing about this place is that it is fairly consistent- consistently average. Went here for dinner with a friend- I had the gumbo and my friend had the half-rack of ribs. Both meals were a bit on the smaller side than expected; and they were both ok. Not amazing and not disgusting. Service is pretty good and they have decent beers on tap as well. An alright place for an uncomplicated meal.

It was the first time I went to this place and the food was amazing. The ribs there is good and perfect with onion rings, I ordered the half rack ribs, and that was more than enough. Perfect amount for one person. Love the place would visit again!

Was walking down hustmere road and thought me & the bro would check this restaurant out, but it wasn't a pleasant experience ❎.<br/><br/>Been here a few months ago and the portions were shocking for the amount we paid + the food took almost 40 mins when it was literally just 2 small dishes that we ordered.<br/><br/>We ordered the prawns and they were not cooked & tasteless. Love the food. Crew members are really polite and I like the ambience, very relaxing. There's always room for groups of diners. Looking forward to visite this place again.

I’m giving this place a 5 star simply because the only person I saw working on this particular Anzac Day was doing a fantastic job , doing the bar , taking orders, serving food , working the till. Kudos to the kitchen staff as well as orders came out in a timely manner ( very important when you have kids) . Nice setting and menu reads interestingly tasty. The 2 for 1 tapas ( Thursday specials) are good, so I recommend them. The Takapuna area is a nice town.

We came here on a Thursday night and really enjoyed the 1/2 rack ribs and Thai mussels (especially on zomato gold!) Staff was very friendly but weren’t that attentive. We had to seat ourselves which was fine but was hard to get the attention of the waiter when we were ready to order. Overall a good experience and will come back!

Came here on boxing day as it was one of the few that was open so good on them for working then! Ordered the ceaser salad and I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. However the service was not too good, there was only one worker for the whole restaurant and as it started to load up for lunch people were waiting to be seated and for their orders to be taken for a while. The wait for the food wasn't impressive as tables that had been seated after us got their food before us. Everyone at the table had finished their meals and my Mums still hadn't come out which was odd as it was a simple meal - chicken tacos, it ended up coming 20 minutes after our table got cleared and she didnt even want it after the wait. However this could all be just because it was boxing day and the meals were actually decent.

On the plus side the waitress was friendly and efficient and the braised lamb salad was very good. Unfortunately the so called porter pie was not a pie but a casserole with a bit of pastry draped over it The mashed potatoes were served in a tin dish and were luke warm. To add insult to injury they did not have the Leffe beer, my main reason for going. Sorry guys, not up to your usual standard.

Got grabone voucher to try out this place. Food is good, bar pub style. Their platter is massive, rump steak with mushroom sauce was cook to liking (med rare) and mussels with thai curry sauce was tasty. Party of 5 eaten all these and we are happy chappy. Make sure you book so you get to be seated in the dining area rather than the bar area.

We had early lunch on a Sunday & there were very few customers around. I had the 350 gm rib steak with mushroom sauce, coleslaw & fries. The fries were not crunchy & the meat was very tough. The Quinoa was not available. Food was pretty good! the beef casserole is a must try.<br/>The grazing platter is definitely enough for atleast 4 people. even the regular size was large enough.<br/><br/>Service was slow but that's because there was only once staff on the floor that night and I felt sorry for her. Why is one person covering the whole floor?? surely this place can afford to have more than one staff looking after 20 or so tables. Shocking.

Been ages since we went out on a date! <br/><br/>Kicked it off with deep fried squid and onion rings, which were very good. Followed up with nachos and falling off the bone ribs. I have to say the ribs was awesome! Helped along with a bottle plus a glass of merlo! <br/><br/>The night was perfect!

Although the selection of sauces were not as much as they had previously, the white wine sauce is still good. Other than that, there isn't seem much that is appealing in the menu. Hmmm, where to start. Have been here a number of times, service is very spotty. Usually, when walking in the door the staff scatter rather than greet customers. Doesn’t make you feel very welcome. Beer selection is ok, look like all one breweries range. Staff seemed knowledgeable about the choices. Food was disappointing though. Ordered a bunch of dishes to share. Onions rings for $10, this was 5 small battered rings, at $2 each they are taking the p**s. Chicken wings with blue cheese dressing and celery, the dressing was more mayo than blue cheese, couldn’t taste the cheese at all, and the celery was two extremely thin short bits that looked like they had been fished out of the bin. Didn’t even see the celery at first as was so small in the basket, if you are going to include the celery as one of the main ingredients on the menu, don’t treat it as a piddly garnish. All dishes were disappointing in size.<br/>Lots of choice in Takapuna, no wonder the Elephant Wrestler is always busy.

My husband and I popped by for a quick dinner tonight, the decor, music, atmosphere, service was 10 out of 10 but the meals we had were very very disappointing. The steak was dry, over cooked, very thin and the parts that looked ok were so full of joins we weren’t able to cut it. A small warm salad and a mountain of chips....ate what we could but We Left most of our meals behind and left feeling hungry

Went for a quick meal and drinks. Ordered onion rings, cajun chicken burger and the shitake mushroom & cheese fritters. Firstly the food came out pretty quickly. Everything tasted amazing. Would definitely return for the food. The staff were super friendly and there was a great atmosphere.

This place is awesome- Fantastic food, tasty, great portions. Lovely decor - my group ordered - the ribs,the t-bone, steak,fish tacos, chicken tacos, calamari,duck fat potatoes, dessert & kids meal. Only let down was we Had to ask the staff for the free kids sundae and free kids drink which comes with the meal. A def must order is the knickerbocker dessert 👌🏽

I was looking for a place on Hurstmere road for some dinner for my 14YO daughter and I, before a show at Bruce mason. Master and apprentice looked inviting and not too noisy, nice ambience, we chose to sit outside on a warm evening. Good selection of pub+ level food and craft beers.<br/>The pulled pork burger I ordered was delicious and with the side fries perfectly filling. My daughter had the fish and chips, mainly because of the mushy peas, which she loves for some reason. She enjoyed it.<br/>The service was good, efficient and pleasant and we had our meals finished within the hour we had available. Happy to recommend.

If you like your food hard and dark brown, the platter here is perfect. Methinks the oil needs to be changed. When cutting the squid it shot off my plate like a bullet! The nachos could have been delicious if not soooo hard - the thought is here but the execution is not. There were 6 people dinning at the time yet I had to go up twice to get drinks and a sauce that had been left off the platter.

Visited on a busy Sunday evening, service was excellent and staff very friendly and knowledge of menu and specials was very good. Had 3 mains and 1 entree as a main all came out together and the food was fresh and well presented, offered some feedback on request and the response was good. On the whole a great experience and we will return<br/>

Dined here on Tuesday night with a party of 5. Very slow service, we had to ask for the drinks we ordered twice, as they never came to our table. The food was nearly an hour wait, 4 out of the 5 us ordered steak which were pretty much burnt and had no taste to the side of mushroom sauce it came with. Not worth the price at all, I’ve been to better Takapuna restaurants that serve better steak and at a much more decent price. Won’t be returning.

She came over asked about how the food was going, came over again asking if we needed anything else, even walked over to us with extra napkins when she saw me sweating like a pig.<br/><br/>Overall it was a good experiance and I am definately going there again.<br/>

I wouldn’t know never got to try it

Best part of my night there was the mocktails we had! They didn’t have a menu for them so they asked if we wanted something sweet, sour or fruity and we would get a drink that tasted amazing! Would definitely go back again!

Popped in on a Sunday evening as my friend saw a sign advertising roast beef! We decided to share the meal. The beef was slightly charred & over cooked. The few veges that were on the plate were nice. It didn’t quite hit the spot though, we missed the whole roast potatoes & gravy & Yorkshire pudding experience we’re used to having in London...

Took my family for a Sunday brunch outing. Ordered our drinks which arrived late and my chai latte was cold. I advised the staff and they made me another one which wasn't hot either. We ordered the avocado smash with poached eggs, salmon with risotto, fish and chips and the chicken burger. Very disappointed with our meals. My poached eggs were not soft and runny (resembled a soft boiled egg), the salmon was over cooked and lets just say it wasn't up to the standard that you would expect from m&a. We had to force ourselves to eat the meals. I definitely shared my disappointment with the staff. I would think twice before booking in.

Went there with a friend on wednesday evening- so disappointed! We went for cider- they ran out of the only cider they have on tap. Service was very poor- our server- who might have been the manager as she wasnt in uniform- couldnt crack a real smile or make eye contact. The food was also very disappointing- flatbread with figs, goats cheese and prosciutto- turned out to be drops of fig jam, flecks of goats cheese and slivers of prosciutto smothered with cheese on a really thin wrap. The chilli fried chicken tasted good- but the portion size was pathetic- handful of chicken goujons for $15! Give this new kid on the block a pass.

We went as a group of 7. The food was pretty good, everyone at the table enjoyed their food. Only downfalls was the waitress was quite grumpy and there are pretty boring vegetarian options

Pop over for lunch. The place is quite spacious and looks nice. Customer service and food was okay. It was about time to grab a grabone deal and decided to dine at this new establishment. To share, I ordered the grilled squid and the pork ribs, and the 'master board' as the main. As you may expect in such an establishment, the portion sizes for both shared items was not large. The squid had a nice kick to it which worked very well. The ribs were o.k, a bit too conventional for my taste and didn't find it too interesting. For the Master board, one of the main things I remember is that the food was 'salty.'<br/>I still remember having a few cups of water later on due to the after effect. There was an ok mixture of meats accompanied by condiments and breads. Without the breads, (consisted of sliced baguettes with cheese and flat bread), the whole system would have crumbled. <br/><br/>In terms of service, both the waiter and waitress was extremely friendly. They looked after us very well. However, it did seem like they were having trouble locating the tables with the food. Possibly having a numbering system with the tables may resolve the issue?<br/><br/>Overall, it was an ok experience. I will give them another try and all hopes are on their mains and dessert menu.
