Review Plateau - Taupo

We first dined at this beautiful restaurant in Feb and we amazed at the food and service. We came back 2 months later and the amazing waitress Barbara remembered our names and what we had ordered 2 months ago. We don't see service like this in NZ these days. We ordered the smaller plates as we wanted to try out their range of food and it was great. Particularly loved the Cerviche. Would recommend this place and would go back again.

Amazing experience! The atmosphere is so classy, cosy & comforting I love the ambiance and so did the whole family! We were lucky enough to have the function room which was so perfect because we were a big whanau w/ 2 babies so we were able to have privacy without being a hassle to other guests especially with my son heading into his “terrible 2 stage” 💀😂. Again lovely cosy relaxing environment. The food was delicious majority of us were full of the entree. Very fulling and full of flavour many thanks to the chefs. The cocktails were so yummy and creative many thanks to the bartenders & the staff were very attentive, service was very fast, drinks were always topped up thank you to them too. We absolutely loved this place thank you for having us 😊

We couldn't fault this delightful restaurant. From the booking process to the farewell it was simply an excellent experience. Tables are spread nicely so you don't feel like you are dining with others. Our waitress was excellent, friendly and informative. The menu has a great variety to surely suit all tastes. The meals beautifully presented, and the flavours simply adventurous. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this excellent establishment and we certainly look forward to our next visit.

I looked online for a decent restaurant and was delighted to have dined here. There were decent vegan options for my partner (not always easy to find good vegan food) and the desserts were absolutely fantastic. My fish dish was good and I loved that the dish included clams. Although I did find the pickled veg overpowering. I would happily return.

Wonderful food and service. We went for my mother in laws 60th and they really made an effort to make it special. A small plate and a large plate are ample food for one person, or you could do a selection of small plates and share. The chicken dumplings in a chilli oil were delicious! I found my slow cooked beef rib to be a bit too salty for my taste, but the lamb shanks were spectacular, and everyone at our table had a lovely meal. Well worthile a visit if you're in the area.

I have eaten here a few times and enjoyed their excellent menu. The staff are friendly and helpful. We didn't book a table prior, so the front of house team made a table up to meet our needs with no pressure. Generally, when I eat here, I will always select fresh fish 🐟 including trout if available. This visit included a large seafood platter for two and a great selection of beers🍻. Thankfully the seafood was not deep fried in batter! It was lightly cooked with perfect dips, sauces, fresh chilli, coconut broth, and limes. Nothing beats freshly cooked seafood from Aotearoa at very fair prices 👌 PS forgot to mention the desert was outstanding and a pleasure to view 😀

Where to start ! The ambience was lovely! The service is 100/10, very efficient, kind, funny, and she did an amazing job (well done!) The seafood and snack platters were amazing and just the right amount to share between 5 people. Between us we had the steak, the calamari and prawn salad, the pork and the venison.... followed by the desserts. This is an superb place to share a meal. The food was to die for, mouthwatering and filling. The flavors are sensational and the ingredients very fresh. Definitely will be dining here again. Keep up the awesome work x !!!!!

Didn't take photos of all our food. But this place was sooooo delish! Make sure to book if you Wana eat here. We walked in and got 1 of 2 bar leaners left and then so many others walked in after us and got turned away because they we so packed! Presentation was fantastic, short wait even though really busy and loved all the food we tried. Would definitely go back again.

Service was excellent. Food was amazing, no complaints, every bite was a mouth sensation. Yum. Cocktails made to a high standard. Delicious.

I went for a bit of a walk while I was in Taupo and part way through I was keen for a coffee and a bite to eat and coffee. I stumbled upon this place and was drawn in by the decor. The menu was tapas and I ordered two that looked good but there were a few more I would have ordered if I had a group. Both of the dishes that came out were excellent. Would be keen to come back for a dinner at some point. A great find!

I don't know what I was expecting but this was near perfect. Just all around great food, great atmosphere, great cocktails, and at a great price. I hope you enjoy it as much a we did.

Was in Taupo for a night traveling between cities for work and liked the look of this place from the outside, so decided to wonder in. I was happily greated and quickly seated. The food was amaaaaazing, i love a good steak meal and Plateau did not disappoint. In a time where hospitality is lacking at times in this country, i was beyond satisfied with the service, it was quick, friendly and gave me a sense of beloing. The older lady who served me was awesome, along with the 2 younger ones working the door and bar. Touching back on the food, i rate the Steak meal as one of the best I've ever eaten, on Par... if not better than Charlie Noble in Wellington 👌🏽 Thank you again for the lovely experience, if i am ever back in Taupo, i know where im going, 10/10

Booked dinner here due to good reviews and did not disappoint. Service friendly, quick and attentive even on a busy Sat night. Food was of exceptional standard and did not disappoint. Had mostly sharing plates + ragu and all hit the mark and then some. The gin cocktail was refreshing and the desserts well worth saving space for. Highly recommend xx

Had a beautiful, delicious dinner at Plateau tonight, Venison capachio sooo very tasty would definately recommend, Beef Ragou would come back for and tasty chicken and ginger dumplings. Definately recommend Plateau we would come back to Taupo to come again Ella our waitress was awesome very pleasant and attentive 😃

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Everything was perfect. The pork belly is to die for! Very talented chef. Atmosphere is beautiful and the service and staff are awesome!

Went here for my mom’s birthday. Food was delicious and yes, locally sourced, but it didn’t seem very NZ, aside from the pavlova. I think it’s just that, in this more global culinary world, everything is just a slightly different « contemporary » cuisine. That is: There was the usual steak, rack of lamb, pork belly, beet salad, roasted broccolini, fries... Things you could find at many other « contemporary » restaurants around the world. This was probably one of the nicest restaurants in Taupo; just wish they had a better view than say, a parking lot, a McDonald’s, a Burger King, and a little bit of the lake. I think the McDonald’s actually had a better view of the lake!

We had a lovely experience here!! We were looking for a restaurant with good seafood. Hit the spot with this pick. Started with a seafood platter and finished with some more oysters 🤤. Excellent service, really good food :) Highly recommended!!

We dined here for a celebration dinner . Excellent service and delicious meal. Finished off the night in front of the fire with desert and ports. The eight of us will definitely be going back.

We dined at Plateau Restaurant tonight and we were very satisfied with whole meal and friendly service, it also has a great atmosphere/vibe to the place. We had garlic bread starter and thought that there was enough for 4 or 5people at least, and was very tasty. The Pork belly starter was just sooooooo delicious cooked to perfection! Kids had spaghetti and meatballs and i have never seen them all devour a whole meal so fast, they absolutely loved it. Mains and side dishes were good sized meals and so tasty, steaks cooked beautifully. we totally ordered more than we could eat as were too tempted by the menu choices, but totally had to order the desserts! They were HEAVENLY! especially the chocolate torte, the caramel under that was Just amazing!, We actually had to stop the kids from trying to lick the chocolate sauces off plates it was that good! We will definitely be returning there next time we are in town. highly recommend.

Had dinner here new years eve, we had no booking and they managed to give us a outside table which was great, the service was very good and we all enjoyed our meals, they seem to have a nice bar/restaurant flow going on... works well.

We have eaten at Plateau many times over the years and always come away satisfied, but this time we were disappointed. It seems that they have merged their bar and restaurant menus, which has had the effect of downgrading the standard of the meals available in the restaurant.<br/><br/>Two entrée, two mains and a bottle of Chardonnay cost $149, which we thought on the high side for the current standard of food.

From the outside we were excited to come and have dinner at Plateau Restaurant, we had a table for four at which we were greeted and served very quickly. The food on the menu read better than it was, overpriced and pretty average. The waitstaff although friendly kept coming over and filling our drinks up after every sip which became quite intrusive. We started with the garlic bread, again average, small portioned and over priced. The coffees were good, although the beans tasted slightly burnt, the meat for all of our mains was cooked perfectly but the rest of the meal was a let down. We were tempted to try dessert but decided to go somewhere else for it. Wouldn't go back again..

Very pleasant, really nice food, service alittle slow and had to keep asking for water, they weren't that great at noticing that your glass was empty.

Don't be deceived by pub-like atmosphere! The food was actually pretty good, and service was amazing! We were all impressed, and really enjoyed our meals here!

I got to Taupo every year &amp; never knew this place was open during the day until my last visit &amp; I'm glad I know now! Fast, friendly &amp; attentive service from knowledgeable staff. One particular wine we ordered they had run out of so was offered another with the bar manager recommended &amp; it turned out to be better than the one we had originally ordered &amp; is now a staple of our wine rack! Looking forward to coming back this year &amp; trying more off your menu :)

Yum Yum. Once you have had this food you want more and more. My partner and I went with some friends we each ordered a different dish and each of us could not fault the tasty food and great service. We have being telling everyone about Plateau, as we all know its hard to find great food and great service. Worth every penny.

My partner and I got a deal voucher to eat here for lunch. It was a fabulous deal and very cheap for what you get. It was warm and inviting with friendly attentive staff who even make sure your water glass is always filled. I had the fish pie and my partner had the fish and chips. My fish pie was the best I have had in a cafe. I highly recommend it.

I came in with my partner on a Friday night and although the restaurant was busy, the staff were very friendly and did everything they could to sit us as quickly as possible and have our food out as soon too. Food was quite delicious. Beef was done tender and medium rare, just the way my partner likes it. All in all, a fantastic experience. Will definitely come back again, most probably with friends.

We ate at Plateau recently and found everything fantastic. We loved the winter menu and the staff were so friendly. Our meals were perfect and we didn't have to wait long even though it was pretty busy. Dessert was mouth watering. Thanks Plateau we had a great night
