Review Dixie Brown's - Taupo

Great night here. The customer service was on point staff were very friendly and our order for 5 was at our table within 10 minutes. I was very impressed with such efficiency and every meal looked so delicious. We didn't get to the dessert menu because no one could eat anymore so that's a 10/10 for me. The only downside about this place is it seems quite small with minimal room to move especially where the bar is situated.

We had dinner last night here and breakfast today too. It's amazing!! Service was great, super friendly and helpful waitresses/manager. Steak and chicken salad was delicious. One of the best steaks I have tried in NZ and overseas. Hot chocolate was very impressive with real chocolate in it, worth it!! Will definitely come here every time I'm in Taupo :)

If I could give 4 and a half stars, I would. It was literally only because we had to ask about drink orders twice. The table next to us also had to ask. It was also slow ish service, not necessarily bad because it let drinks and food go down but it did get to a point where we started looking around for service. Besides that, the staff are lovely, there's a great atmosphere and the food was perfect! I'll definitely be going back. The prices are a little high, but the portions are decent and the quality makes it worth it. The cocktails I would say are the only items not worth their dollar, but they're not terrible, just more expensive than most. Highly recommend you book a table, even on a Monday night it was full and they had to turn away 3 or 4 groups just while we were there. Last but not least, the garlic and onion mashed potato is the best mashed potato I've ever had, definitely recommend any dish that comes with that.

Great food. Highly recommend the bread and butter desert. And the cheese cake.

The meals here were fantastic (my pork belly was slightly tough) and our girls loved the milkshakes. Service was very slow and we waited a long tine for our drinks and garlic pizza. I think this is due to a shortage in hospitality wait staff. They were also very busy.

Went to Dixie Browns twice over the last year. First time we were stopping through from Wellington and just looking for a family meal. We stopped for pizza and some mains. The desserts looked good but we had to keep going. I kept the place in mind for a trip back with the kids again. The next visit things were much busier and it was difficult to get a table, a bit of a wait on food but otherwise good the only thing was we thought we saw a donut in the dessert cabinet, ordered a donut and it turned out to be a cheesecake. They were very busy though and mistakes can happen (they don’t do donuts at all). All good. The strawberry shake definitely was a hit. I enjoyed the pork belly and the tequila chicken. The peanut butter brûlée was great and the cheesecake was actually great though the person who ordered the donut doesn’t like cheesecake 😅🤣

Another fantastic meal at Dixie Browns. Such tasty dishes. Wish we lived closer so we could come more often. Such great service from their friendly staff.

My family and I visited Dixie Brown for the first time recently by accident on the 19th of Jan and I am glad to say it was a very good accident indeed. Before I get to the good part of our experience, unfortunately there were some negatives. As we entered in, our family was forced to enter into the restaurant again as they could not check our vaccine passes at our table. The waitress then took us around and we got to seat at the exact table we chose at the very beginning. The unfortunate part was that the family at the next table had their vaccine passes checked right at the table. There was some obvious discrimination there by the female staff. Also, its very difficult to get service at the table, and we were not given any cutlery or serviettes with our meals. Please bring the cutlery along with our meal. It also would be recommended to have some type of service device on tables as it is very challenging to get service especially during peak times. Now to the good parts and there is more than one! Our main server George was absolutely amazing, we experienced some great customer service from him. He was attentive, friendly and talkative. He is a perfect example of what excellent customer service should be and how it should be exhibited. Now to the most important part... THE FOOD!!! We initially went in thinking we would order drinks. We had the Irish coffee, Death by chocolate, lemonade and ginger ale. The Irish coffee is highly highly recommended by my Mom and Mom just wants to go back for more. All their drinks, spot on. We then had a look at the menu and decided to order some deserts. We had the cheesecake and waffles. One negative was that the dishes were too sweet, the syrup on the waffles would be better on the side rather than pre-poured on the plate. Just so the customer can choose the amount they want. The cheesecake was to die for, also very sweet but definitely worth it. At this moment we were having such a good experience we decided to look at the dinner menu. Let me tell you, we would have regretted making that decision if we had walked out after the desserts. We ordered the special that day which was the Lobster tail and rather than eye fillet we replaced it with the fish. Excellent no complains there, highly enjoyable and worth it. We also had the BBQ chicken pizza, it was smokey, it was cheesy, it was crispy. Again very highly recommended. This place is definitely recommended for anyone who visits Taupo even if its for drinks.

Last ones late at night and still service with a smile. Food was quick and excellent because there was no one else there and we were hungry. Can't comment on the 'atmosphere' because there was no one else there. Just what we needed at that time of night. Thanks Chef for perfect food and so quick.

after the good experience I had in Mount Maunganui, I decided to let my friends to have a try on Dixie Browns since we’re in Taupo today! all of them were satisfied with their food especially what I recommended (pork belly). The portion were pretty big, even they can’t finish 😆 there is table available outside but not sure why the waitress never let us choose whether we want to sit inside or outside, she straight told me that I need to wait for 45mins. So I asked whether can we just sit the table outside, since there are few tables not occupied.

Girls weekend in Taupo, thought we'd check out Dixie Browns & I'm so glad we did. Beautiful meals, drinks & atmosphere. The service was phenomenal! We arrived earlier than our booking time. Lovely lady at the door welcomed us and found us a table even though it was a very busy Saturday night. Sachim was also amazing with excellent service, patience and overall kindness. The porkbelly was divine and the girls absolutely loved their meals too. We appreciated you and your team looking after us and will be back again.

Lovely atmosphere, apart from the loud rap music that was playing. Omlette was over cooked rubbery. Smoothie could have better presentation. Apart from that lovely place ☺️ A Delightful Experience a hidden gem that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The cafe offers a fantastic variety of food and beverages, each prepared with care and attention to detail. The menu boasts a range of delicious options, including fresh salads, hearty meals, and delectable desserts. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to provide excellent service. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, is the perfect spot. I highly recommend visiting this charming place for a delightful culinary experience.

The best chicken fettuccine I have tasted. Burger and pizza were also superb except for the dry scone.

Good was amazing work a great selection. There is a kids menu which was ok, it was done on an activity sheet and came with crayons. The spot the difference was near impossible to do. The kids meals were priced well and only 3.50 for a traffic light drink was great. The atmosphere was overall great and most of the music was nice except for when Sandstorm by Darude came on. The food was delicious some and good sized portions. Now the Fancy Shake, that is amazing, at $17 I was expecting a good size and it didn't disappoint, I shared with my daughter which worked perfectly, Definately recommend trying one.
