Review Siam Thai - Taupo

Leskin Lambert
I ordered a tasty Prawn starter which was accompanied with a fresh salad and tasty sweet chilli dipping The chicken and rice dish had a variety of vegetables that were well seasoned. The service was friendly and the food arrived hot and quickly. I highly recommend this as a great all round value for money dining option.

Tasty food and a reasonable price. Service was like home and made us feel so chill and rested for our holiday.

We stopped by in the pouring rain without reading any reviews and were pleased we did! The food is delicious and packed with flavour. We often have Thai and this restaurant stands out above the rest for flavour. As I write this the chef is preparing herbs in a pestle and mortar - so very good and fresh! I had the Pad Plik Tai with chicken (photo) and my girlfriend the Gaeng Garee Gai with tofu.

Food decent between takeout and restraunt quality. Just on the restraunt side. Service great they are authentic thai and friendly / smile. Serving size average, lots of chicken which i guess is good. Overall happy 4/5 no inbetween so 5 star it is thanks. $6 beer is good

Perfect Pad Thai, full of flavour, good little kick on a cold day. Spot on service which came as a surprise since service in Taupō is pretty poor at best. Good proces too. The only thing I could fault, it was a bit cold in the restaurant, turn the heating up! Overall, great experience. Will be back soon

Really great takeaway! And they use those new biodegradable bags! The pad thai is very tasty! Be sure to ask for cutlery

Two of us shared a portion of pad see ew (pork) and green curry (beef). Portions were good, and the green curry was delicious! Pad see ew was tasty too, but noodles were a little overcooked.

Siam Thai is some of the best Thai food I have had outside of Thailand. The food is very authentic and incredibly delicious. The staff make you feel so welcome, making for an all around great experience. I always get one of the curries as they are out of this world!

The flavours were good and the ambience felt more welcoming than most Thai restaurants (including ones I've been to in Thailand), but we did leave a bit hungry after two mains and an entrée - maybe that's the point in being 'street food'? I'd still go again if we're back in town and in the mood for noodles or curry, but I'm writing this to remind myself that maybe we need to order another main to share. I guess that'd at least give you more things to try out. (I also need a bib haha as the crunchy dry garnish noodles were long and led me to splash curry over my shirt in trying to get my mouth around them even when broken up. Oops)

Excellent service, delicious food! And they let us hang out in the restaurant, even though they were closed, so we could keep warm whilst we waited for a taxi.

A small restaurant but with good Thai food, we'll presented. Portion is a bit small though.

Good fresh and tasty food and portion sizes. Would have liked more chilli in curry but otherwise excellent.

When visiting Taupo, search for Thai food and Google Maps recommended restaurants. Overall, it was good, reaching our expectations. Because there were a lot of resvered that night there wasn't a lot of attention from the hall. Food were excellent

After reading the reviews of Siam Thai on other platforms we expected to get a good meal.  While the food was OK, the service and speed of the kitchen was terrible.  It took close to an hour to get two main dishes, and then one of them was wrong (and hence inedible for my daughter).  We asked for a replacement dish of vegetables and 15 mins later it still had not come.  Finally, my five-year-old asked to leave. The problem was very clear - the restaurant was totally understaffed (one server, and three in the kitchen).  In addition to trying to keep twenty plus people fed at the tables they do a lot of take-out, and quite clearly the take-out takes preference.  We will never go back.

Food delicious but an hours wait with a 2yo was almost too much. They seemed to be doing takeaways and we had booked for a time.  Too busy to take our order- makes my husband declare he will not return. Chicken cashews nuts and the curry of the day with prawns were  nice.

Taste authentic but portion is a bit too small for the price. Neat dining environment centrally located although it's at the middle row of the town's shops cluster.

$40 later we felt like we'd been robbed. I would rather have gone to the supermarket bought a carrot and 300gm of chicken and cooked a stirfry myself - it would have tasted better and been cheaper.

A great variety on the menu and tasty food. Something to suit both of us. this restaurant was suggested to us by some of the locals (we were in Taupo for the weekend) and it was great. Simple decor and dining - street food - so quick and easy. Delicious.

Good fushion food at a good price. Portion was a decent size and not too big to leave me feeling stuffed. I also like the mini salad they had on our rice. They had plenty of interesting dishes and I would love to come back to try it.

This has got to be one of my favourite restaurants in Taupo. Very unassuming little cafe but has some of the most delicious and unique Thai dishes you'll find anywhere. It feels like you're getting home-cooked, authentic delicacies prepared especially for you. Go there!
