We tried the online takeaway option in Taupo. Great easy experience, value for money with generous portion sizes. We ordered the Rib box. Only inconvenience was having to go pick it up instore - haha!

Showed up late notice with no booking and was catered to by staff. Service was lovely and top notch and the food was amazing. My wife had the salmon which she commented was delicious and my steak was cooked perfectly to my liking. The garlic ciabatta bread went down a treat as well.

We went for the Boxing Day dinner. The food was amazing. The staff was very friendly. Although we haven’t made a reservation the team helped us to find a table and managed to get the food ready as early as possible. Food was great and portion size was filling.

Ignored on arrival by maitre de and nearly walked back out after a wait, then sat us at a table by an open door without being asked if it would be ok. But glad we stayed as the Waitress was awesome (and closed the door) and the food was great. We will be back.

FOOD was spectacular! Got the Pork and the Crackling was to die for. If you know me you'll know I love a good cracking. Only complaint was that It was a bit crowded and seats were really close to each other. However - I can understand that given how nice it is.

Love the taste of homemade garlic bread 🍞. The rib is so yummy as well. Food comes fast and cooks in a nice way.

Our server has been amazing. As I ordered low dairy, she has checked with me every step of the way during the preparation of our meal. Excellent service

Super evening with the usual massive portions of food. We were five at the table. We enjoyed Redneck Ribs (enough for two), salmon, teraki and chips and Rockin Ribeye. Washed down with bubbly and beer. Go Lonestar!
Fooooood
Service was goooood!!!! Food was gooooood!!!! Booked a table with 27 people and definitely a great outcome. Food didnt take long at all, staff were polite and made sure kids were fed before anyone else.

HIGHLIGHT - Ribs!!!

Very busy and packed with people. I loved how they had free range chicken and such a range of yummy food. There was a long wait but only because they were busy and the staff checked up on us. Was getting hangry but I think it was worth it. The positives was the food was SO GOOD!!! But the fish was very greasy as people could tell from the wet piece of paper that got jammed inside it. Some salads were in bowls and others scattered, but overall a good dinner it was.

Food is great but service is really bad. Couldnt get our order right. Asked a staff if they had malt vinegar said no we dont. Then another staffed helped me with that and got it for me without telling me its additional. The concern here aint the cost but the fact of not being told that there was a cost for vinegar. The staff that served us was trying her best but had her mistakes which is normal messed up thing is they didnt assist her. The bar staff i did not prefer coz hes an idiot

I came in when all the 'Halloween deco' was up and it looked very well done!

The place is well located and the bar is a presentable environment.

I didn't venture deep into the restaurant but assume it's a standard 'lone star' landscape.

Still doing great entrees and I purchased a few vouchers for a gift. They sorted these out for me quickly and presented them in a good little card slip. Very helpful Lonestar!

Have been here twice and it is the best Lone Star in my opinion! The deserts in particular are great, the food in general is value for money. Great staff and service too :)

Had my daughters 21st dinner here last June, and it was really good, it was a busy Saturday night, but their service was great.
Meals were beautiful, couldn't fault it really. Would come back again.

Busy busy busy, Lonestar is Lonestar you always know what you are going to get if you are a repeat customer and it will taste the same every time and be presented the same every time it's called consistency and Lonestar should pride themselves on it because they never fail! Front of house staff although busy as heck (iron man weekend) you guys did a flawless job big pat on the back. (I know hospo work hospo and live hospo :)) never disappointed apart from the fact that our waitress finished before we did and we weren't able to give her tip to her in person (we hope you got it)! All in all great as per the norm thanks guys :)

Had the worst stake ever, could not eat it, told the staff and was told it was fine. Cold chips and old salad. No taste in the so called sauces. Very bad. Will never go back and cost $72. But the beer was ok.

Called to book a table and was told it was not necessary just come down in about an hour. Turned up and was told rather rudely we should have booked and it would be at least a two hour wait to be seated.

Not an acceptable way to conduct business, reading others reviews seems this is par for the course for this place, recommend avoiding.

Took clients here for a dinner. Service started well downstairs. We moved upstairs. Drink orders took a long time as the drinks had to come from downstairs. 1 meal was missed off the order, unfortunately it was the key clients meal. By the time the meal was cooked everyone had finished. When asked if we had to pay for the late meal it was abruptly taken from us by the owner with no explanation. When I questioned him about it he told me he didn't have time for me. Very embarrassing. Would not take people here again.

As fans of the Auckland Lone Star restaurants, we thought we should try out the brand spanking new restaurant in Taupo.

We dined with friends as a group of eight on a Saturday night between Christmas and New Year (peak season). We only had to wait about 40 minutes for our table (although I'd put our name on the list earlier in the day).

The food was great - the only complaint from the group was that there wasn't enough sauce on the ribs. The desserts were absolutely amazing!!!!!

Service was okay, except for the wait on ordering drinks. We were seated upstairs (which has an amazing view of the lake, by the way) and even though there was a bar located on this level, for some reason our order had to be prepared downstairs. That took a really, really long time, as there were loads of people waiting in the bar for their table.

You can see pictures of our meals and more details of our experience at http://celestereviews.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/a-lone-star/.

Second in restaurant at 5:00 ordered and was told 10 minutes later the kitchen did not open till 5:30. Got our entree and son's meal after a long delay. After waiting my steak finally arrived at 6:10 and it was cold. Complained to the waitress. Got the same steak back with no cutlery and was now medium well had ordered medium rare. When asked how our meals were, complained about the time and cold food. Response "sorry about that". Dined at Lone Star since it opened and this was truly terrible. Complained on their web site not expecting a reply and my expectations were of course met.
