Review Bobby's Fresh Fish Market - Tauranga

Orang Indo Jalan2
The best fish n chips in Tauranga. Better come early because the place so busy and popular, the fish so fresh and crispy also the chips really good. Plenty seat, the place clean and tidy. Good for family and friends. Plus you can see the harbour from there. I give 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you Bobby's Fresh Fish Market. Recommended!!

Fish and shrimps were so fresh and the batter was light and delicious. However, squid rings were not to our liking as they are not solid like most calamari, but more like squid paste made into ring shapes (at least that was how it tasted). Remember to bring cash if you are tourists, as they do not accept international credit cards.

Fish and chips is nice and hot. The serving is large, one serve of two peice fish andn large chips is enough for two adults.Unfortunately for one of my prices the batter was under cooked. Tomato sauce, Ranch dressing, tartar sauce, and lemon is also available to be bought separately.

The fresh fried fish is thin and crispy on the outside mixed with some herbs, and the fish meat is fresh and juicy on the inside. It is currently the number one fish and chips in my heart. The fries are also good, they are freshly cooked and hot. Delicious food and enjoy every moment of life.

Amazing, best fish and chips in the area, that's for sure. Great selection of fish, all cooked fresh. I had the gurnard and snapper, what a treat, so so good. And a great relaxed and local atmosphere, right down by the water where you can see and smell the sea, just perfect!

Best fish and chips I’ve had in 10+ years in New Zealand. As fresh as it gets, great batter and super friendly staff. A must for those visiting Tauranga!

A beautiful and casual location to appreciate the harbor while experiencing Fish and Chips at their best. Better in my opinion than Maunganui. An easy walk from Downtown Tauranga. This place can be busy so avoiding main meal times by an hour may save you a long wait. Being able to choose your favorite fish is awesome, and the service we experienced was friendly and helpful.

Lovely spot and so nice to see people sitting as a family to eat right by the shop. The food was on point. Fresh fish cooked perfectly with amazing batter. The tartare sauce was the creamiest I've had. Enjoyed by both adults and children.

Absolutely amazing fish! I have never had such a fresh fish in my live :) Don't forget to bring your own beer ;) and if you like mayo and not ketchup as me, good to have also your own :) Be ready for some waiting between 11:30-13:00, we were there around 11 and no line at all ;)

Best fish and chips in the world. I've been lots of places, and this is my favorite! I want to return to NZ just to eat these. I dream of them. I'm hungry now.

Over an hour wait for fish and chips. But the fish did not disappoint. Surprisingly not so greasy and I like how they don't put much salt.

First time to the Mount & the fish n chips were the best! Fresh snapper & the batter was delicious we'll definitely be back can't beat that 😁👌

Unpleasant environment, average food, super unfriendly staff, extremely slow service. Definitely not recommended. Will never come again. Fail!

Fish is absolutely a must have. Great customer service! Chips can be a little undercooked but understandable as the place is always packed. Would recommend to bring your own tomato sauce as they charge. Highly recommend for anyone living or visiting Tauranga to visit this place for fish and chips.

Really crispy and lightly battered fish and chips. However the fact that it was fried in 100% beef fats, with the flavour of it coming through pretty distinctly in the chips didn’t quite sit well with us, it got a bit too much after a few chips and we just had to stop. Fantastic mussel fritter though, and thumbs up for the very cheerful guy cooking and serving it. One thing to note, their taps in-store to wash your hands are boiling and scaldingly hot, which can get dangerous. I ended up having to leave the shop with soap on my hands cos I didn’t wanna scald myself further.

Came here this morning.
This place has to be the best fish shop I have eaten at. Ordered the fish, chips, battered sausage, and prawns.
Everything was freshly made and so good. The fish, sausage and prawn was perfectly cooked and I do see why it’s so famous here in Tauranga.
Would definitely eat here again when visiting.
Wonderful customer service as well.

The freshest most delicious fish and chips I’ve ever tasted! Would be considered expensive especially if you’re accustomed to $10 specials from takeaway bars in South Auckland however after taking a first bite, the price will be the last thing on your mind. Place gets packed so be prepared to be lining up for a while.

One of the best fish and chip shops in the World. Super fresh fish. The fishing boat docks right outside the shop. $6.20 for fish and chips more than I could eat. That is a great deal anywhere in the World.

The best fish and chips in NZ. Literally. People need to come in as early as opening time as the place is always packed. Spaces are occupied the moment the customers stand up. :)

Visited Bobby's during a recent trip to Tauranga and I must say that this is the best fish and chips I have had in a very long time. Needless to say, fish and chips was the order of the day for the rest of that trip. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who is in the area. It may seem a bit pricey, but compared to Auckland, the price was definitely worth it. Did not eat in though - it was always full when we visited. But there is a lovely stretch of waterfront next to the place with ample space to sit down for fish and chips. Staff were rather abrupt, but that is forgivable since they make great fish and chips.

This place lives up to its reputation. I had half a scoop of chips, a piece of fish (terakihi), and a paua fritter. The half scoop would be enough for two people. The fish was so fresh and meaty (oh, you know what I mean) and the batter was light and crunchy. The paua fritter had nice chewy bits in it instead of your usual commercial pappy ones. The chips were perfectly floury and crisp.
It's great because they had lots of accompaniments you could buy to enhance your dining experience: lemons, cutlery. These are things you don't often find in a fish and chip shop.
The staff were efficient but were really friendly and patient with a tourist couple who had loads of questions, so that impressed me.
I was on holiday from Auckland and it was my last day otherwise I would definitely have gone there for their fish breakfast (chips, fish, coleslaw, 2 eggs and two pieces of bread for $11).

To make the most of the last few summer nights in the Bay, we headed to Bobby’s Fish Market on a cheeky Friday night to try out their famous fish and chips. Clearly everyone in town turned out too because there was an hour wait to pick them up once you’d ordered. The fishing boat docks right next to the shop, so the fish is super fresh.

Funny place this one is.
The fish is great the chips good BUT
-The oil they use for deep frying smells from miles.
- The prices are high and a bit weird.
They don't supply cutlery they charge you instead so you have to buy them. No other options.
- Same story with lemon. You pay or no joy.
- The stuff (locals) rude.

So never again...

Busy popular place, I love seafood, we stayed in Tauranga for 3 days and we visited here twice. I can recommend the seafood kebab for $4. Only thing is everything was a bit too oily which I had read on other reviews. They should do crumbed fish for People who don't like too much oily batter which was the only down side. Friendly staff.

I stayed in Tauranga 2 nights and went to Bobby's fish market twice! The fish is really fresh and delicious plus, sooo cheap! I paid 6 bucks for the whole meal. Although the oysters I got were not so good and pretty expensive (3 bucks for 1). Definitely recommend to get the fish and chips! :)

Bobby's Fresh Fish Market is appropriately down by the harbour and, by first impression, is teeming with locals out for a good feed on fresh seafood. The only downside is that they don't offer crumbed fish, a personal preference of mine. Not to worry.
