Review Macau Bar Kitchen And Lounge - Tauranga

"Wow, I think this is my new favourite eatery", I told my family, while still browsing the menu. This is the kind of food I love and it was excellent. I absolutely loved the dinner here and left so full I was uncomfortably content. It's a great atmosphere and the waiting staff were friendly and professional. Seems to have plenty of gluten free options available for Coeliacs which pleased my wife and food came reasonably quickly too. I will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu.

This place is so much fun to eat at. I love that it can be a sharing experience I just went with my partner and we picked 2 things off the menu each. Everything was delicious and great, I recommend trying the prawns. Service here is so good, really fast and they look after you so well. This is a favourite for us 😍

We walked in to this place for dinner on a Thursday night and surprisingly the place was full. The outside seating was empty considering it was a bit cold. However, the host was polite to offer us a table in the outside area by providing us blankets and turning the heater on to ensure we are warm. The drinks were spot on, the food we ordered : ginger prawns dumplings, khimchi, charred lao eggplant dip, everything was perfect!! The best part was the desserts : chocolate fondant and hot apple pear spring rolls..just delicious!! Loved the food, ambience and service .. great work team Macau you are AWESOME!!

Just gets better and better! It's been some time since we've eaten here and tonight did not disappoint. Tempura eggplant (a total winner) ginger and prawn dumplings and spring rolls an absolute delight for a shared starter. My main was beef cheeks and noodles... Yummy! My dad had the duck pancakes which were also delicious. We finished off the dinner with a creme caramel. Absolutely mouth wateringly good and excellent service. Well worth a trip into town.

Lovely meal, great service. We were accommodated as walk-ins at 5:30 on a Friday night. I would have paid the suggested tip except the waiter had forgotten our Korean fried chicken. We were impressed when he took our order without taking any notes. We had typed it into note on our phone to remember it. We will probably be back but we will probably ask for confirmation of our order next time.

We had the most phenomenal dinner and service at Macau, so much so that we went back the following night for dinner again. Every course was a taste sensation, the service was faultless and the cocktails were perfect. I could not recommend them highly enough

We had our wedding reception at Macau Lounge - it is simply the best venue in Tauranga by far. The location, the outdoor area and the inside ambience is so good. The food has always been great and our day was just perfect with a wide variety of dishes and amazing canapes to start. The team at Macau is so good we cant say enough about how great it all worked out.

🌱 Vegan review Although the menu listed 3 vegan options (dumplings, cauliflower and eggplant dip), cauliflower turned out not to be vegan, as they added cream or dairy to the recipe. On the other hand the jungle curry was vegan, though listed as vegetarian, which was a nice surprise. Ordered all 3 to share for 2, which was plenty 👍 - Eggplant dip with wonton chips - unusual and surprisingly awesome take on dip, loved it. The waiter offered more chips, which was very nice - Dumplings were good, nothing special, but a good medium option 🤷‍♂️ - Jungle curry - fantastic, lots of flavour, soft tofu, beautiful on rice, 5 stars, would come back for it 4 stars because i felt the wait staff were rushing us off the table, but i couldn't tell why, as we weren't told that the table was booked after us. They asked if we were done with the food 5 times although we were clearly still eating 😕 But would come again definitely, nice ambiance, easy to book, delicious vegan curry

A fabulous meal. Had the gold banquet and plenty of food and variety for four hungry people. Service was excellent. Definitely recommend and will be going back!

Food quality was excellent, service was very good & the waitress we had was so lovely & attentive. We got several dishes to share which worked well for us. It was very busy the night we dined with several large groups dining so the noise was quite loud but apart from that it was a very pleasurable experience. We would def come again.

This is one of my favourite restaurants as have had great experiences in the past (not sure if something had happened between wait staff and front of house? But waitress forgot drink order and front of house was a little frosty) the food was super yummy highlights were chicken curry, ceviche and desert.

Had an awesome banquet lunch here. Lovely choice of not so ordinary wines to match. Thank you to the smiling kind staff.

We returned after being away 2 years and found Macau is better than ever. The food is served on plates meant to share, some appetizer-sized and some larger. We had edamame, the kokoda, curried salmon laksa and the san choi bao lamb ribs. This was plenty of food for two people and it was all wonderful, but we have the say the lamb ribs, served boneless in lettuce leaves with a cashew caramel crust, were absolutely out of this world (thankfully someone told us to get these or we may not have noticed them on the menu). Macau is easily among the top three restaurants in the Bay of Plenty. It's also beautiful inside and the service is excellent.

Always a great experience at Macau, amazing food, very pleasant atmosphere, staff are very attentive kind and approachable. Highly suggest dining here if you haven't before.
