Review Rye - Tauranga

Great options. Average price. Casual. Fast accurate service. Were massively accommodating to my friends egg allergy, the chef even prepared some egg free slaw especially for her burger. Meals were out very fast. Chicken burger was a bit bland but the rest was amazing and we would return to try other parts of the menu

The ribs are well seasoned but tiny bit dry. Chicken wings are nice and spicy. Spot on. Besides, homemade soda is better than I thought. Will be going back again when there is chance.

Lovely food. Great service with a smile. Good value for money. We had a nice meal here on a sunday..which means kids meals for 5 dollars and that is real value for money. Kids loved their burger. We had lamb and mash..which tasted great but was not as warm as we like it. And the gorgonzola souffle which was very tasty. Waitress was friendly and lovely. Lots of other nice items on the menu so we will go back and try some more.

Looks not good but taste was good!! I didnt expect that much before I got this, but steak was so juicy and yammy! If there is more vegetable and the other ganish would be better, but nice! Try steak!(pork rip was not really recommanded)

Amazing drinks, beautiful Food. The steak was tender and juicy. The wings were sticky and addictive, with a side of crispy criss cut fries and tangy aioli

Dine on an empty stomach and prepare for the meat sweats, this place is delicious. Reccomend the meat platter

Service was excellent and the food was some of the best I can remember. Had an awesome night out. I will definitely go back!

Well that was a pleasant surprise. I just popped in for a quick bite to eat after work. Ordered a burger and a beer. Boom! That was the best burger I have ever had.

What a cool place; amazing food, brilliant drinks selection and friendly helpful staff. I cant recommend this place highly enough. Try a mock-a-chino dessert. 😁

Wow! These guys obviously love and appreciate good food. Every dish we tried was on point - the flavour combinations were excellent. So many places these days use prepared food bought in and dished up on fancy plates, but not here. This is what dining out is all about. Make sure to try the fried chicken! Very impressed.

Went with my parents and husband. Service was good and atmosphere really nice. Most of our meals were great. One of us got the rye Mac burger which was a bit of a disappointment. Not much flavour to the burger and the bun was burnt. Would recommend this restaurant just not that particular dish.

Starter was to die for the aioli sauce was home made and was mouth watering. I wanted medium rear steak and I got it well seasoned, boys and girls new what they where doing. The Beef brisket fell of the bone the spuds for mash where the right spuds to use for mash. I would like to try the dessert but couldn't do any more after the steak we will be back guarantee. Service was great from the girls. Well worth the money.

Rib eye steak with Caesar salad and fries on the side. Amazing food. Amazing customer service, amazing environment to unwind and relax!!! A total recommend for anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion, a nice quiet dinner date or even a family outing with the kids. All here in the one place can all be offered.

Service was ave, I only got asked how my food was once when she had literally just put the food down and the table was seriously taking first or second bites. Better to ask that question mid meal or at the end of the service. Maybe I can train everyone because the food was horrible. I wish I had complained onsite but being with family I bit my tongue and held my dissatisfaction back. I wanted the 111 wings however I was told that it wasn’t possible as you had run out. So I opted for the buttermilk burger and on top of that the basket of chicken. Unbelievable. Don’t call that a basket of chicken. It was 3 thighs - dry and stringy as hell and I could have had 100x better at a fraction of the cost at any tiny lunchbar. Buttermilk fried? 🤔 not anywhere close to the buttermilk chicken I’ve had at other establishments that are up to par. The burger was absolutely terrible as well. The bun was 92% of the meal. With what seemed to me like one of those disgusting dry overcooked stringy chicken thighs was picked away from the bones and thrown in a mountain of bun with a slop of your coleslaw. My brother in law had the ribs which were very plain. My niece the buffalo wings, again highly plain and no heat whatsoever. My partner, sister and niece shared the platter which had its ups and downs. Drinks were ok but the old fashion over priced - Try 1/10 drink, 5/10 ice and 4/10 empty short glass. No need to respond, just trying to make other patrons aware they are better off dining elsewhere.

Outstanding, 111 wings are amazing good hit of heat but nothing severe, the ribs are best I have ever had, my wife said the chicken burger had the most chicken she had ever seen in a burger we will be back for sure without the kids though
I went with friends to Rye on Wednesday. Had a lovely experience. Great food and great staff.
I ordered a rye Mac burger with an extra pattie (3 in total)
It was deliciously made.
Visiting Tauranga for AIMS competition, so a group of 9 of us visited on a Saturday night. They easily accommodated us - possibly because there was an AB's test on that night and they don't have a screen. Having said that, it was to our benefit given our late booking. Staff were very friendly, although menu/product knowledge not very comprehensive for some of the staff members. Food was good - very generous portions and came out quickly. Will definitely come back next time we are in town.

One of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. Rye is so welcoming and calm inside! With its polite and attentive wait staff, it is a wonderful place to visit! The food is just as fantastic, with my favourite being the Waffles with Fried Chicken!

We will defiitely be returning as soon as we can!

Quick note: menu is different and has different prices too. Platter didn't come with jalapeno poppers or biscuits, it had mozzarella sticks and sourdough slices instead. Went here on a Saturday evening with a group of 7 reasonably hangry people - wasn't too busy at all with plenty of tables. Service was immediately very accommodating and friendly as well as patient as our group pondered their options. Prices are on the high side as is the case for many American style restaurants. We decided to order two of their $50 platters for the table, 20 chicken wings ($20) and a bowl of fries ($7). The platter was a delicious mixture of golden things with barely a vegetable in sight (unless you count coleslaw in creamy sauce). My favourite part was the hot and crispy buttermilk friend chicken and the amazing mozzarella sticks. Sourdough was delish - super fresh, but not a generous serving at all for all the sauces and dips provided. What we did have was amazing with the jalapeno butter though! I found the spinach artichoke dip to just taste kind of like jalapenos in cream, wasn't my favourite. Salmon was small but decently cooked. Corn chips were handmade and fresh. Pulled pork was decent, not as flavourful as expected or as soft and melt in the mouth as hoped.
Our chicken wings were little nibbles with lots of sauce, both the BBQ and spicy were a bit spicy for me, but the table inhaled them so they must have been good. Fries were nice -shoestring McDonalds style, but I didn't notice the garlic.Overall, a delicious experience. Not super filling for most at the table, just the girls were full - more bread would have been very welcome. Would recommend you check it out as the nights get colder as it was slightly pricey, yummy comfort food with a friendly ambience.

Haven't tried everything else on the menu but the fried chicken burger just wants me to go back for more. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great place.

Came here with family - 6 adults and an 11 month old baby. Really impressed with how well we were looked after. The Southern chicken and the Jalapeno poppers were a hit! The dark chocolate dessert was so good also!

Asked for salad without dressing - got salad with dressing.

Asked for a medium to well done steak - got a rare steak.

Asked for fries without garlic - got garlic fries.

Asked for chicken without mash and gravy - so instead of gravy on the mashed potatoes, it got poured on the chicken.

Asked if the fries are gluten free in case they are floured - got told by waitress fries are made of potatoes. That's great to know, thanks.

As a side note, it would pay to put a water filter on the tap for people that just want to have water because the water in town tastes awful.

My father who has lived in America for the last fifty years was disappointed that the food was not representative of American cuisine and there was limited American themed decor in the restaurant, excluding the American flag.

So many things wrong it was just easier to pay and leave. Had very high hopes, especially after seeing all the very good reviews, but was just left with a bad taste in my mouth.

I've been here 3 times, and it's been consistently great. This time around I ordered the pulled pork burger and grits, while my partner got into the special on wings. Didn't have room for dessert, because the burger came with an extremely generous amount of pork (maybe a little too much). The chips that came with it were also good, certainly not an after-thought. Great value, awesome service.

Came to Rye tonight because we wanted to try something different. Absolutely loved it - there's not enough words to say how incredible the food was, how great the service was, or how we left with the biggest smiles on our faces. My stepmum's a chef from Mississippi so we went in with high expectations and were NOT disappointed. The ribs fell apart at a harsh word, the pork belly was equally as perfect, and the crackling was light and fluffy and I'm salivating just remembering it! Everything was well priced and the drinks selection was amazing, with interesting descriptions of each spirit on offer. All in all we're stoked with the experience and will definitely be back.

Dined here tonight with three others. Service is excellent from the minute you walk in you feel welcome. The waiter was very informative as some things being American aren't always what you would expect. For starters we shared pontine & biscuits. Both these dishes were delicious & for me were the highlight of the night. For main I had a Philly cheese steak. The meat was beautiful & tender. I found the mustard a little overwhelming & the bread a little dense but I would say it's more of a personal preference than an issue with the dish. Others at the table had lamb ribs & pork which they also enjoyed. I like that it offers something a little different. I would defo recommend.

The layout is very open and spacious. The food however, is a bit lacklustre. It is
usual bistro comfort food. We appreciated the novelty factor as the set up is beautiful. The waitress we had was very attentive, to the point that throughout cutting my food up she asked if I was done twice.

Had the chicken salad. Was nice. Well seasoned, dressed well. Good flavours, didn't quite get the olives and not sure how I feel about the chicken being cut up.

Couldn't have asked for more, great waitredé! Perfect cocktails daze tax was my pick! Out of this world food meals are massive! Will be back! Thanks Rye!

Was average at best. Once we got our meals that was it... Had to go to the bar and order drinks while eating. Steak was under seasoned. Individual components of meal were nice but didn't really come together. Desert menu was lacking.

Lunch 27/5/2015
Pre-ordered for approximately 16
Good waitstaff who actually came and took drink orders and checked on us - YAH.
Rye Burger - under cooked pattie, very under seasoned and lack luster. Thank goodness I had fries !!!!!
Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger - drown in five difference sauces, so couldn't really taste it
Chicken & Waffles - burnt outside of chicken and bearly cooked inside, off putting
Jambalaya - Inconsistent. Our lot looked great and apparently tasted great too, however, different group from work had lunch the week prior and warned us off this dish as it was swimming in oil.
ALL salads - looked fab and got great reviews.
I won't be back here for lunch.
Sorry, but the burger was that bad.

Went here on a Saturday night. Was greeted by friendly staff when we walked in. Then our friendly waiter came and took our order. Explaining all the different options on the menu. We had a large hamburger and market fish. Both were excellent, large portions and great taste. Finished off with cookies and milk dessert. This was awesome. Would fully recommend going there.

Has an awesome American vibe happening, staff are super friendly and very accommodating to children, kids get pop corn, colouring-in and a warm welcome, the waiter suggested a cocktail and it was delicious, unfortunately the food was not amazing, definitely not lacking in quantity, they are massive! The Cob salad was way too salty, really couldn't eat much at all, and the fried chicken didn't really have much flavour happening, kids curly Frank was not a winner and fries not great either seemed undercooked or something. Can't see this place lasting to be honest, the quality of the restaurants around Tauranga seem to be at a much higher standard, maybe need to focus less on quantity and get the flavours right, most of the other reviews I've just looked at are all saying similar. Sorry we won't be back.

This is American vibes in a nice open space. Great service and the bar is on point. Potentially the only place in NZ to do Picklebacks, and points for making their own pickle juice.
The food is presented really well and almost makes up for it missing the mark flavour wise. Nothing was bad. But nothing we great either. Although I have a feeling the sandwiches may be the stars here and no one I was with ordered them.
Will definitely come back for a drink sometime and try a burger or sandwich.

So came here as had been told it had just opened!!! Great setting and bring American themed had to try ( as was there last week) any who staff where super friendly,
Very knowledgable, food I wasn't to impressed I mean I got a fried chicken my own fault I should have stuck with a salad as I don't tend to enjoy fatty food? But they said it was a popular dish any who was very very bland and the potato and gravely tastes like packet stuff.... The fried chicken was bland not like what in used to, my partner in crime had the burger they were happy but did mention was a little bland, I would be back but would try different options I'm sure it's amazing and I just choose the wrong meal, and would suggest maybe put some more flavour in the chicken herbs or something to give it some kick

Went here for lunch. So glad that they open for lunch now. Food was fantastic, just as expected, big portions, tasty and no apologies for it's rustic appearance. The staff were attentive and so friendly and looked after us with children so well. The $5 kids meal was fantastic and so cheap for what you get!
Finally a funky grill in Tauranga. Service great. Food excellent. My steak cooked to perfection. Tasty sauces. Fresh slaw. No complaints. Happy to return

The fried chicken. And the potato and gravy. Oh my goodness. So damn good.
Only bummer is the annoying flies and the music is way too loud.

Only popped in for a drink, however the service was amazing and the menu looks interesting. Can't wait to go back for a meal. Fantastic service and made to feel so welcome.
