Review Kwong Chow Restaurant - Tauranga

Always good value for money. The evening time visit gives access to the roast section which is where I usually select from. The veges, prawn and pickled veges are a must and some of the deserts I liked, especially the mango one and trifle. When the fried bananas came out as I was standing there I tried these - they good piping hot. No extra charge for the jasmine tea and we get $2 senior discount each.

Food selection is great, there is quite a few options from both seafood, sushi to full smorgasbord style chinese. The meats are really nice and for all you can eat we only paid $39 for an adult. Ended up having close to 4 plates. Would be a good place for kids or anyone. Atmosphere was only given a 3, but its because of the noise and crowds that this place seems to draw. Its not a place for a quite sit-down dinner.

OMG the food is amazing. Make sure you go on an empty stomach. So many yummy dishes, but save room for dessert.

I love this place! We went here twice while we stayed at The Mt. We did not need a reservation as we went during the off season. The food was fresh and hot. The dessert was my favorite, especially the pavlova and anzac biscuits, everything is homemade. The staff are lovely and remember repeat customers. The price is decent especially if you attend during lunch.

Such an awesome buffet restaurant. We went here today for the first time and we really enjoyed it. Their customer service is great, they're friendly and clear the tables very often when you've finished your food. Really enjoyed the variety and kids had fun too. Will definitely be back

All you can eat chinese buffet for 20 NZD. But I tried this one and itโ€™s so delicious but quiet expensive. It cost around 40 NZD. The have a strong wifi also. And the buffet itself is very complete. You can get all the appetizer, main dish, salad, and dessert as well as the ice cream. Nice park view outside of the restaurant. And you can find this place easily.

Nice family restaurant with all you can eat buffet. This is a BYO but tell the staff before you plan your meal. Entre salads bar, main courses, desserts and tea/coffee included for buffet. Value for money. ๐Ÿ’ท ๐Ÿ’ท ๐Ÿ’ท. Pro tip - try not to go crazy when you fill your plate but try bit of everything. Take your time when you eat and enjoy a tea or coffee with your meal to ease up the food traffic ๐Ÿ˜‚. Best time to dine is dinner.

Nice buffet restaurant and perfect place for big families. Reservations/bookings are required as Restaurant has limited seating for groups. Excellent customer service experience

First time there, and we were greeted with a warm welcome. Lots of food choices. However, the beef looked like it had been sitting in the blood juices for a while, so I didn't touch it.

I've been here 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Have brought different people each time. They also think it is an awesome Chinese buffet. The Staff are very attentive and easy going. especially for an island family, this place is the best ๐Ÿ‘Œ ๐Ÿ‘

2.5
Itโ€™s part of my parents tradition to visit Kwang Chow each time they stay down at Mount Maunganui and as I was visiting with them popped along to try. This giant venue has plenty of customers and offers a reasonably good value Chinese buffet. The food can not be described as good quality... but there is a good variety and plenty of fried food to appease the kids. I loved the pot sticker dumplings, and enjoyed the sweet and sour pork although this would no way be the best Iโ€™ve had. I did not enjoy the sushi but the fried banana and the meringue at the dessert station tasted pretty good. So many people seemed to enjoy so you might want to try for yourselves. Just ok.

We stopped in to grab a takeaway meal for our family of 4 for lunch - its $9 for a small container $11 for slighly bigger and $14 for a standard sized container - i think it's not too bad but not the cheapest for value . They have a buffet where you can choose what you want to have in there . Only downside was there was a couple of buses outside so it got pretty busy and everyone was pushing in so wasnt really a line as such - so was pretty hectic. The food was good but didnt rate the sweet and sour pork. The staff was lovely and place looked lovely to dine in. There's a place across the road with a park bench. Overall i would come back as i did enjoy the food and liked how you get to pick and choose.

Chinese takeaway food in a buffet setting. Popular for many families as a cheap go to for birthdays. Food is extremely average and what you would get at a Chinese Takeaway for a fraction of the cost. Great location.

Excellent Chinese buffet restaurant. (Need one of these in Auckland)
Great selection of food. Covers everything. Chinese, deep fried, roast meat, salad & dessert selection too. As well as homemade biscuits w tea & coffee. Favorite Banana fritters & trifle.
Early dinner dining from 430pm.

This visit is after 12 years of my first one. I wished to entertain my clients with some good Cantonese food in Tauranga. I specifically picked this restaurant as I did enjoy the food 12 years ago while my visit to Mt Manganui. Now the restaurant is doing buffet mainly. Our order was served pretty late. The dishes were tasted like made in a takeaway, but not by a chef in a restaurant. And we ordered 3 glasses of White wine. Surprisingly, the waitress brought 3 glasses of red wine along, obviously with no knowledge of sauvignon blanc. We were lucky enough after I pointed out the item in the list of white wine. Then she replaced the wine for us. 3 dishes, 3 glasses of wine, and 3 steam rice costed more than $150.

Kwangchow fast food in te puia
Has a little buffet in there but limited seating. People mainly got takeaway and I've never seen take away containers so big before
We ordered sambal fried rice (the biggest take away box which could feed two,too bad not much flavour from this. It's literally they just adding sambal to fried rice with chicken pieces) and the Singapore noodles (looks really oily with curry powder in it but not stingy with meat. It tastes a little sweet which is strange)
Food took about 15 minutes and they were busy but we went be back. Cooked simply and quickly and we didn't finish or really enjoy our meals. But you can't complain about the portion sizes

Not only is this good vaule for money.ย 23 all you can eat.ย Chinese food was fresh, cocked well and taste good.ย They even had Kiwi style food, chips nuggets if you wanted.ย They also had all you can eat dessert.ย Only thing was we sat very close to the toilet, but saying that they warned us and we decided to opt for the seat instead of wait.

Good selection of fresh food which is refilled regularly and yummy desserts. Service is great. One of the best buffet restaurants I've been too

Yum! All the usual favourites. Great bang for your buck. I loved the crispy chicken. My wife loved the noodles. We will be coming back and bring the kids next time.

We were supposed to eat in an Indian resto just beside this restaurant but we thought we'd give this a go first as there were a lot of people in this resto so it might be good.

It is a buffet-style resto where you pay a fixed price ($22/adult). There was a good selection of Chinese food and dessert, as well. However, I would rate the taste of their food quite low. I know being a buffet-style resto I need to expect quantity over quality but I would've expected tasty food. Some were bland and some were cooked differently compared to a number of Chinese restos we've eaten at. A few dishes were good though (Roast Pork, Vege noodles, Beef with Vegetables).

Service was great though. Staff were alert and always smiling.

Overall, I think this resto is okay if you just want to fill up your tummy and taste Chinese food on a budget.

First time back here in a number of years, although local family have been numerous times and whether it be for a quick lunch for 2 or a family birthday celebration, none of us have ever been disappointed. I took the opportunity to dine here again, when on a recent visit and I am so pleased I did. The staff are friendly and efficient, working their backsides off, consistently refilling dishes, cleaning down tables and buffet areas. The food was always fresh, hot and delicious. The restaurant was very busy, even tho it was only Wed night so I have no doubt that a reservation would be recommended if you intended dining on Friday, Sat or Sun.
Very reasonable prices for what is offered, only wish we had a local one here in Auckland that was up to this standard.
I want to thank you all for rekindling my memories of the past and would have no hesitation in returning on my next trip or recommending to others.
I know you have been there for many years and I wish you the best for many more prosperous years to come.

Often dine here, never have any complaints . Large range of quite superb dishes, hot food always hot, cold dishes always fresh. Never have any complaints, staff excellent. Reasonably priced, attractive prices for oldies, and oldies here are 60+.
Anyone not happy, here, must be very difficult to please. Will be going back, often. Highly recommended to everyone.
Richard
Anyone who complains about this restaurant will never be happy anywhere. This is seriously the best place in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui to eat, value for money hands down. Highly reccommend to anyone.

The Chinese food here was terrible, definitely unhygienic in the restaurant also. I have tasted delicious Chinese buffets before particularly in Gisborne - Kwangchow is no match the quality of their Chinese food is absolutely poor ! Even the Chinese in Bayfair is slightly better quality and taste. The experience was horrible crammed up against the wall with no space to move, super noisy because they obviously over accommodate and charge less to make you think you are getting a deal when really they just have a bunch of bad Chinese cooks serving you bad Chinese food. Also a health concern, the cooked prawns tasted as though that had been frozen and defrosted multiple times. Chinese food is personally one of my favourite foods but this place just puts a shame to the name.

Went with family and was super impressed with this yummy and reasonable eatery. Great variety of food in the buffet, excellent professional service and nice place. Especially loved the lemon chicken and fried banana with caramel sauce :)

Great fast family food!
Went before going to the movies with friends and a load of kids!
Great asian buffet; like the special xtras for dine in - great buffet desserts - top tip keep it simple - can't go past banana fritters and icecream with choc sauce :)
Only suggestion is would have liked some ginger and spring onion sauce to go with the charsui pork and fried chicken and rice....
Great prices too - $20 an adult and $1per year for the kids.
You have to book - it was completely full all night - saw people being turned away

Tonight while with my 11 year old step daughter we went to Kwang Chow in the mount, had great meals there in the past which makes this next experience very bizarre & no less scary.
We just wanted takeaway tonight so made my way around the smorgasbord and was told I wasn't allowed this part of the smorgasbord to which I said I paid the highest rate I should get full run of the smorgasbord & said this is bullshit! Granted this was out of line of me to say, but then the waiter yelled at me across the room yes this is bullshit! I walked away, gathered the rest of my meal & stepdaughter and then crossed paths with my friend again where he waved excessively saying goodbye, goodbye! At the top of his lungs at me, I took this moment to ask him if he acts this way towards all his customers? This is when he took his right hand and placed a knife in it from the plate in his left, you can imagine my surprise after 5 minutes in a restaurant I now have a waiter aggressively holding a knife towards me then in shock I asked "are you holding a knife towards me?" to which he said "yea yea I am!" I then I swore at him and told him that he was out of line grabbed my stepdaughter and left.
I'm now left to wonder what to do? Boycott? That's a given, tell others? That what I'm hopefully doing now, call management? Or god, I was just threatened with a knife by a waiter at kwang chow! Should I ring the police? Needless to say I will never return to this Buffett restaurant & will never speak well of it either.
Boycott kwang chow!

I have been going here for years with my family and it is always a good time. The buffet food is of a high standard (for buffet food) and everyone loves it. The staff are friendly and have gotten to know us quite well by now. When busy it can be a little loud and it gets hot near the back of the restaurant, aside from that we have had a lot of good memories here.

One of the highlight when we visit Mt Maunganui is to dine at this restaurant. We love the quality of the buffet food, the variety of dishes are also excellent. Great value for money, we always leave feeling satisfied!! Efficient service means the staff members are constantly on the alert to clear up our empty plates, and the kitchen chef continuously monitor the buffet table to make sure dishes are always topped up so food never runs out. Highly recommended. The bonus also is how clean and hygienic this restaurant is. Definitely our favourite restaurant!

Ive been about 6-7 times over a number of years and go for the all you can eat . Good for big groups not for couples!

Not fan of smorgasboard dinning but I have to say the food was always fresh and well prepared here. With the food being replaced constantly which is usual for smorgasboard.
Service was attentive even though the pace was packed on the night we went and I never saw anyone take a break in the 2-3 hours we were there.

In general the Staff are friendly and it is well priced

I Have eaten at Kwangchow Many times, and each time is fabulous, very friendly staff, delicious, definitely edible food, and AMAZING desert, I Love their Brandy Snaps and Pavlova! Mmm. There wide variety of food is excellent, ranging from Chinese noodles, to sushi, soup, and deep fried. And of course excellent puddings! I Recommend strongly to anyone thinking about it. it's an excellent place to dine.

From a previous visit we found the Food to be reasonable. However, I am sorry to say that on our second visit the service was unfriendly and rude, and on my Birthday - Boohoo! The young women at reception made clear we needed to be out by a certain time. Then the person acting supposedly as the evening manager, abruptly asked my wife where we were sitting, without a greeting or anything. Then he proceeded at volume to let everyone know that they were 'very busy!' - with the implication obviously directed toward us. When I expressed our offense at the service, and that we would forthwith leave, and not return, there was not expression of apology at all. Rating would have been 'Good' is the service wasn't appalling We will not be returning.
