Review Trinity Wharf Restaurant - Tauranga

R Dickinson
This was a lovely experience from the moment we arrived. We were warmly greeted, given a table with a superb view, and treated to a free glass of bubbly to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was delicious - beautifully presented and very fresh. The staff were great - friendly, welcoming and responsive. Our waiter made an excellent wine recommendation. We'd definitely come back.

Had my daughters baby shower here today. At first we were disappointed that we were not sitting where we were originally shown, which was on the lower floor with the water view. However , the service and food were amazing, right down to amazing platters for the gluten intolerant guests, and the separate plate for my pregnant daughter. Although we thought of the guests, we forgot to ask for special food for my daughter. This extra forethought was something to be applauded. The reason for the four stars was because we didn’t get the view we expected, although we still had a view, and it may have even worked better than the original spot, as we were a little separate from other diners. Well done Halo, you impressed a lot of people today - keep up the good work 👍

This review is for the lunch/ brunch sitting. More a cafe experience, as opposed to the fine dining experience. WE. LOVE. HALO! Not only for the interesting menu options. Not only for the finest level of attentive wait staff. Not only for the world class, salubrious over the water setting. But ALSO because they now allow dogs!!!!!! YUSSSS........ Be sure not to walk in the front, hotel reception area, with your pooch. Ask first, and they will show you the side entry to bring them through

For a fine dining establishment there was a table next to us wearing sweatpants and a puffer jacket and 2 kids yet I thought I was under dressed in a tidy shirt and ironed pants. The food however was very good and came at a decent pace but the drinks were rather slow to be served even if they were cocktails. Great servers and a very clean and tidy dining room

Excellent food and service. It's expensive but the views and the food make it worthwhile to try. They don't have a separate vegan and gluten free dish but they were happy to get the chef to create something and they didn't disappoint. It really was a fantastic meal.

We stayed for the weekend at Trinity Wharf and popped into the bar for a drink before heading out to dinner.
The staff were polite and friendly and knew their way around the wine menu. A good vibe in the lobby of the hotel where we sat, comfortable seating and a fire place. Very nice.
Stayed at the hotel which was quite nice. Great ambience at the Halo Lounge, but my breakfast wasn’t good. Eggs Benedict had too much vinegar in it. Salmon didn’t taste fresh and the Service was quite average as well.

We stayed here over the long weekend and decided to try the restaurant out.
Beautifully set restaurant with a lovely view of the water and bridge.
We got a seat by the window which is our favourite seat.
We were greeted and served with such beautiful service through our time here.
We received a complimentary dish from the chef. It was Venison served on a Polenta tart from what I recall. Was really beautiful.

Entree:
• Banana Prawns
• Truffled Wasabi Abi Tuna

Mains:
• Market Fresh Fish
• Silver Fern Farms Lamb Cutlets

Sides:
• Polenta Chips

Everything was beautifully made and served. I had the Banana prawns and Market fish and both dishes were amazing. Loved the Prawns which was served with peri peri mayo and avocado. Everything worked so well together. The Market Fish was delicious, cannot quite remember the name of the fish but it was beautifully cooked, and served with pasta in coconut cream. The portion size was perfect, as the coconut cream sauce was quite filling but the amount which was given was just enough.
The polenta chips was lovely, however it was my first time trying polenta chips and I have to say it is worth trying.
I loved and enjoyed both my meals and I had also tried my partners Wasabi Tuna and Lamb cutlets. Both of these were delicious as well. The Lamb Cutlet apparently had won a prize so we really wanted to try it. It really was a fine dish.

Overall my experience here was wonderful. Service was great. Ambience was wonderful. Food was delicious.

Decent place and food. Restaurant is inhouse to the Trinity wharf hotel. Apart from the service which was a little slow, food on the other hand was good. Decor is bright with pleasing aesthetics.

Since we are staying here and hungry seemed logical to try this place. We ordered cocktails; a strawberry mojito and a chilli apple cosmo... both yuck. All I could taste was strawberry syrup and in the other one it was like they used Tabasco sauce in it. We didn't drink them and they did refund us for this. For entree we had BBQ banana prawns which wasn't great-prawns were overcooked. Seared Tuna was better. Both mains were better and hot. Fish was nice... abit small .. lamb loin was nice it was meant to come with sweetbread but we got told that they have none so will get extra veges! Mmmm ok. Also got polenta chips which were overcooked.

Went here with family and cousins. The view and the decor is very beautiful. The food was amazing and served in a timely manner. Everyone was happy with the food and the friendly service. Would strongly recommend it for those who are looking for a relaxed dinning experience.

Food was delicious but our dinner was very pricey! Staff was attentive and friendly but we didn't like the fact that we were told that they had no tables and expected a large group so could we please have a drink at the bar. Needless to say that the big group never showed and the restaurant was more than half empty... Poorly disguised fact that they wanted us to spend money at the bar before seating us .

Always reliable and offers the most amazing view across Tauranga harbour. Service sometimes a little variable - often the dinner staff are foreigners on their OE - but when you get a good one, it's top. Great range of food and wine choices. Nothing too adventurous flavour-wise but equally nothing to disappoint, and you leave having enjoyed a great romantic or group experience. Perfect when topped off with a night in one of the water-view rooms :-)

Very disappointing restaurant. Do not dine here unless you are happy to part with good money for terrible service.

On arrival we were told we couldn't have a drink at the bar first because they had other seatings after us. Place wasn't even half full and didn't fill up any further while we were there. You would think any restaurant would welcome the opportunity for you to spend more money!

Water was sloshed all over the table when poured in our glasses and not cleaned up - we had to ask. Drinks took 20mins to arrive and the bottle of wine was plonked on the table without a cooler and waiter walked away, we didn't even have wine glasses. Waitress came to take our order, had to ask her for some glasses, to open the bottle and pour the wine. Menu was very simplistic, not a large range, one side of A4 for entree, main and deserts.

The food was fantastic when it arrived, can't fault that.

Ambiance was awful, someone mentioned it's like a food hall - I agree. It's a square room, nothing special about it. Two large round lights on the ceiling. For some reason there was a long trestle type table in the middle of the room with a large bucket full of bottles of white wine down one end and red wine bottles at the other end. I wondered if it was a help yourself type scenario!

When we left we asked the same man who seated us why we couldn't have a drink at the bar before our meal since the restaurant was only half full and had continued to decrease in numbers, he was ready for an argument and started to lay into us about 'not wanting any delays with getting our order through'. Absolute rubbish. He was very rude to us.

Will never go back here and will advise others if they want to spend this kind of money, do so at a respectable restaurant which knows what fining dining and service means.

A lovely restaurant and wonderful setting, looking out on the water. We have had lunch as well as an evening meal at the Halo and have not been disappointed with either. Not the cheapest place to eat but very nice.

Just had Breakfast, excellent service from Bev, lovely view, nice sunny morning, very pleasant, be back again. Had Daughter and son-in-law from Australia with us, were very impressed with food and waitress. Thank-you Bev hope to see you and your service again soon

Went for dinner here on a Saturday night recently - wow. Amazing view, great service, friendly and helpful waiter. We had Australian banana prawns for entree, then steak for mains with potatoes, and vegetables. This dish came with these amazing blue cheese croquettes - delicious. The meals were very generous so we had no room for dessert, but it looked good. A wonderful night.

Three of us had High Tea last Saturday 2nd March at Halo's. We spent nearly 2 leisurely hours chatting over tea and and beautiful food. The sandwiches so fresh and great fillings. Loved the scones and the range of sweet treats was great. It was so good to have small servings of the sweets as so often I have find myself put off by the size of cakes, slices etc which are usually served in cafes. The service was great and we were well looked after. It is going to be our local spot when we want a treat or to treat others.

I booked a table with a view at Halo a day in advance for our 5th Wedding Anniversary thinking that it would be a really memorable experience.

We arrived there 5 mins early [7.55pm] ready to be escorted to our table, but of course..... they had lost our booking, which meant we had to wait in the lobby for 25 mins for a free table because they only had half the restaurant open that night. To top it off my wife's boss had tried to purchase a bottle of champagne for us as a surprise but was told that they can't make credit card transactions over the phone. Huh?

Anyway once were seated the service was good, the food even better, beautiful lamb shanks, and the atmosphere needed a little tweaking but was ok. There was only 1 kiwi working there so it kind of had a cool international feel, but was hard to communicate at times.

All in all a pretty underwhelming experience for a 5* restaurant, great for a corporate dinner while staying at the hotel but it's not gonna win you many points with the misses. Cheers JH

Went for lunch today.2 adults and 2 small kids. The service was really good. Lots of waiters and the kids got a coloring picture and washable velts. So thoughtful. Food was really lovely and the views are special. I would definitely go here again. Especially because the price of the food is comparable to a a far less luxurious restaurant.

terrible service terrible food!
this use to be a great restaurant and use to have amazing food. but has gone down hill in the past year. I use to be a regular for dinner and brunch but the food standard has slipped and the service is very uncaring!
had brunch there 6 months ago and sent my poached eggs back 4 times! they where hard boiled everytime! then came for high tea with some girl friends we got served our coffee and our food (which was pretty basic hightea compared to other restaurants i have been too for hightea) and then the staff never came back to us! there was a fair few of us so we were planning on having a fun ladies day and have some wines but no one came to us to ask if we wanted anything else or even remove our plates! so pretty annoyed we left and went to mills reef where we got fabulous service and had afternoon wines all day spending a good $1000 which Halo missed out on! we will not go back here it was terrible service.

Great views across to Matapihi and good food are the advantages of Halo, but all-in-all it's a little underwhelming. The price and the surroundings suggest something that the restaurant doesn't quite deliver.

On entering the restaurant it was hard to know where you were supposed to go have a drink as we were waiting for friends, its quite uninviting. However, despite the non existent ambience, the food was really great. The cauliflower puree was divine except the hapuku it came with was slightly overdone. Our friends enjoyed their meals too. The wait staff were friendly ")

Myself and 3 others had High Tea on Saturday afternoon 27 Nov. The first disappointing thing was that the food was not served on a tiered cake stand. When I questioned the waitress she said that they had run out of cake stands - the place was not busy and I had booked more than a week prior. To me a High Tea is not a High Tea if its not served on a cake stand. The food with the exception of the sandwiches was not of the standard I would expect based on the advertising. It was not fresh and we concluded that it was from the day before - or before that.
This was a special occasion for us and we had dressed up and were looking forward to a proper HIGH TEA - we did not get it. I could have got better quality from any number of cafes downtown for less money.
I emailed the Hotel the following Monday to let them know how disappointed I was, but as yet have had no reply at all (10 days later). I feel cheated - especialy as I know what others had for High Tea at the Sebel and what I got was very different.

Went to Halo for High Tea last week, the food was lovely and well presented unfortunately they were let down by their service..which was pretty much non existent after our food & drinks had arrived. It was early afternoon and only 2 other couples in the restaurant and there seemed to be quite a few staff - although none came to refill our water or ask us if we needed more tea/coffee. Very disappointing.

Such a great place to be with family and friends.

I had recently taken my family and friends for dinner here on a Friday night and even though the restaurant was full we were still greeted and seated by a young waitress ( Jenny ) who just made our night so relaxing, she is good at what she does.

The selection of food and price is what i had expected for a place as this and was not disappointed by the size and taste. It was De vine.
They had just changed there dessert menu and i had the valrhona chocolate brulee, i have been around the world and eaten in top restaurants and this was the best brulee i have ever tasted.

Compliments to the chef.
Thank you for such a good night and will be back soon.

Went on 19 March. Six adults. Excellent food and service. Some of our group have eaten in renowned restaurants in London and New York and claimed the food and service to be up there with those. As far as cost goes, including wine, we spent just under $100 per person and felt that we had value for money
What?
Quite expensive, and the food is more bent on appearance than flavour. Open, modern and airy restaurant lacks ambience; for the prices charged i would be looking for a more intimate feel. Halo is more like a food hall...

Dined May 2009

Really good food, large plates giving impression of not much food, however, very contrary, service was very average (had to request a wine list when the waiter asked what we wanted to drink and request another glass after almost 'flagging' him down).

Slightly disappointed in time it took - booked for 6.45 (after being advised they were fairly busy at 7pm - to get there and find they definately did not appear to be!), received entrees at 8 and mains at 8.20, however got free appetisers - I would think so with the price of the meals and the fact that all vegetables are additional!

Not cheap at all. $11 for a single glass of wine. $20 - $35 for entrees and $30-40 for mains - but tasty.

Would dine again if was not required to be anywhere afterwards and budget wasn't an issue ($320 for 5 adults who had entress & mains only with 2 glasses wine and 6 cokes etc).

Probably the only “real restaurant” atmosphere available in Tauranga. Well trained staff, professional presentation, excellent quality of food.
