Review Bailiez Cafe - Te Anau

We arrived without reservation on a Friday night, and managed to get a seat for dinner. We ordered pork ribs, pan fried blue cod and seared salmon. The pork ribs was fantastic. The bones slided right off the meat, and the meat was soft and juicy. The cod and salmon were not as good compared to the ribs, since we had better fresher fish elsewhere. Overall. Presentation of the food was fantastic, and the service was good. Hence highly recommended to order the ribs if you like ribs.

Really unexpectedly good. We had a full day out at Doubtful sound and returned for a 4 person dinner here. Everybody was stoked with their meals. Including 2 with the mainland venison (entree) and the mussel carbonara. Very happy stomachs all round. The only critique was that I ordered the Venison medallion which was twice the cost of the Mainland venison but was virtually the same meal. Tasted great but in hindsight I could have saved $20 to get the entree.

The cafe/bar is very simple and cosy. We went for hot chocolate, and it’s one of the best in town. Decent prices and lovely services. There is parking right outside, but limited spaces. Toilets are located in the same building but outside the cafe. Only came for drinks, did not have food

This place is cozy and food is great. Staff were attentive and friendly. The lamb shank’s pretty affordable comparing to the average cost in NZ.

Friendly service… It was a cold morning.. I really need coffee as because me and my partner going to milford sound and cafe’s opening time was 8am but I didn’t know I went there around 7:30am I was looking at time on closed entrance door and felf sad then lady came out and asked me to come in and gave me coffee even they were closed….. I really thankful to her⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dined here twice. Cozy and ambient space, great on a cold night with the fire going. Venison was amazing, i had it twice. Lamb shanks were tasty too and steak was pretty decent. Vegetables were cooked to a mixed consistency but still fine. Overall a pretty good experience

This place actually served decent sized portions for the price! I think what’s hard is in town it’s hard to tell what’s good and what isn’t. Our bus driver Ray recommended this spot. The lamb shank was so nice and fell off the bone and they provided an assortment of veggies with it - cauliflower, broccoli, carrot, brussel sprouts etc. Only sad part was the steak and fries which are just decent and average. The steak being super super thin. But give this place a shot if you love cosy vibes.

Best place to eat in town. Fresh, clean and friendly! I ate the Venison and seasonal veg. Mwa!

Had the venison, and it was spectacular. perfectly cooked and paired so well with the puree carrots, roasted beets, and some kind of potato and cheese fritter. Also, the sticky date pudding was amazing for dessert! Staff were nice and attentive as well.

My favourite restaurant in Te Anau. AmazIng food, nice atmosphere, and friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommend👍🏼

Arrived late for dinner and no problems accomodating us. Great tasting food. Quick and easy. Wine was a great price too. Had Lamb Shank, kids chicken nuggets, Chicken club sandwich and the special spaghetti bolognaise. All were delicious 😋

seafood chowder and lamb shanks are really great!! Queen scallop has great seasioning, but with pesta, taste like a separate dish.

The service was lovely and prompt. I liked the atmosphere: was spaced out with comfy booth type seating against windows (was warm though). Enough space for multiple families with little kids to be themselves, and private-ish boothes to eat in as much peace as needed. Two fireplaces - one with seating. The lamb shanks / mash / broccoli was nice. The bathrooms were large, lovely, and clean (this place is attached to a function centre). And OMW the brownie for dessert was just what I needed. They had warm mulled wine on offer, unfortunately I need all my faculties in place so was not able to try at this time.

Really friendly service and delicious food! Also has a really lovely cosy tavern feel. I arrived quite late from Milford Sound and was so happy to take a seat in the warm dining room and have a great meal.

A random stop after a day at Milford Sound - we were rapt with our lamb, just hitting the right spot. Great service and comfortable booths. Highly recommend. Could not fault.
