Review Mr. Illingsworth - Te Atatu

Great vibes in Te Atatu. Outdoor area is really nice on a good day. Food is always fresh and full of flavour. Highly recommend the raw coconut fish it’s a highlight. Also very pet friendly in the outdoor area. Will definitely be back.

I've had the pleasure of visiting this place on two occasions, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my experiences. The food platters and individually prepared dishes are exceptional, making it perfect for sharing with a group of friends or family. The drink selection is impressive, offering a wide array of flavorful options. However, if you're planning a romantic date, it's worth noting that this place tends to get quite crowded and noisy. That's because it's a popular spot for groups of people who are here to have a great time.

A great bar and restaurant. The food and hospitality is always the best. Plenty of parking and there is also an outdoor dining area.

Really nice place. 1st time there and the service was amazing. Super friendly staff who looked after our table of 18 well.

Dinner options are fantastic, generous portions, drinks innovative, very attentive staff. The only issue is the kitchen can't handle big crowds in my opinion hence it's a long wait for the food to arrive. The staff do let you know that it's a 30 min wait though. Suggestion: order the mains when ordering the starters

8 of us went tonight and we were all impressed. Great waiters could not do enough for us. Food very high standard large portions and very hot. Would go again. Thankyou

Good first impression. Will follow it up. I think owned by the trusts west Auckland. A nice location. Good atmoshere without people. Outside feels cozy. Staff are attentive. Only tried a pizza. Not rating this as i need to do a starters mains and desert in one sitting. At the moment...really good. Doenst feel like it would where thin anytime soon.

Not going to lie. Only went here as sugar grill was full. Nonetheless was a really nice experience. Food was super and brought out really quick. Staff are very friendly too. I don't know if I'm just old now that I'm passed the tender age of thirty, but the gangster rap music at 12:30 on a Friday afternoon was a little loud and didn't fit right.

We organised our daughters 21st birthday dinner on the 10th of June for 18 guests and we were so happy with food, friendly Manager and the staff that made us feel comfortable and provided us a superb service. We had special vegan meal done for our daughter which was not in the menu but the manager Mathew went out of his way to make a special vegan meal for the birthday gal, was commendable and sufficient. We live locally so it was convenient for us and to support our local businesses is our first priority. Thankyou to the Manager and his awesome staff for making our event an awesome one.🥰😊🙏🙏🙏🙏

Good and nice place to relax. However the food took more than 40 mins to come out of the kitchen. I had Chicken Breast which I think was great (as pictured). The eye fillet was good but small in portion. Family members weren't full enough after that meal.

Stopped here while on a bike ride. It had a good atmosphere. I liked the menu which was well priced. We got good service and enjoyed the food.

We love Mr Illingsworth. Food and service is always great. Particularly love the fish tacos, cauliflower and raw fish.

Update: Recent visit was much better. We used to go to this place a bit as it has good staff, range if drinks and a nice relaxed atmosphere. However, the food as really gone down hill. The chicken was basically an out of the box crumbed chicken with a slice of ham and cheese on top. Definitely not worth the price. The chef really needs to take ownership of this and sort out the menu. If it changes we will be back, otherwise just for drinks.

Had a nice lunch here, pizza's and pork belly. A little kids area, so they were happy! Nice friendly service. Would definitely go back, nice and local also.

Great tapas- we got the pork belly, fried chicken, cauliflower, fries, meatballs, raw fish and a pizza. All generous sizes and prepared well.
We had 2 small babies with us and staff offered a high chair and were very kind when we knocked over and broke a glass.

Came here tonight for dinner and the food was so good! I got the fish and chips and my partner got a spicy meat pizza, polenta chips, broccolini, and fried chicken and honestly everything was so good. The fried chicken was seasoned really well, not greasy and enjoyable to eat. The spicy meat pizza was really good too. The fish and chips was awesome, the beer batter chips were sooo crispy and crunchy and the fish was so soft on the inside and the batter was just right.. not greasy, oily or falling off the fish. Everything had really good flavours I was genuinely surprised that I enjoyed everything! I really want to commend the chef for such good food! Will definitely be making Mr. Illingsworth our local now! Highly recommend!

Our favourite new local :) We love a trip to Mr Illingsworth.
The staff are wonderful - all so friendly, and were really good to us and very apologetic one night when they were absolutely run off their feet and our food took a long time to come out.
The food is really nice - my favourites are the prawns and the fried chicken. But everything is delicious! Except for the desserts.. They need some work.
It's a great spot for a drink and some nibbles on a sunny Sunday arvo, or a dinner out. Fair warning though - it gets VERY busy on a Friday night.
You can't book a table unless you're a party larger than 12 (I think it's around 12), which is a real pain as I would hate to plan a function for a group of say, 8 (our usual), arrive and not have a table confirmed and then not be able to get a table for that number, so I have been reluctant to bother going at peak times with a large group for that reason. But, they seem to feel like they don't need to offer a booking service, so what can you do..
It's located in the new "Point" building on the Peninsula which over-looks the Countdown car park, so, don't expect to be going their for the view, but it has been such a great (and much anticipated) addition to the area.
Our bill always seems to add up pretty quickly.. But, it's a great spot nonetheless, especially if you're a local. My family were some of the first people to build on the Peninsula (or Tat North) roughly 70 years ago, so I love and appreciate the history behind the name as well :)

Some of the food was great, other parts were horrible and inedible. Was not happy with the service especially when told they had screwed up a few times. Had high hopes and they definitely were not met, will not be back.

Awesome staff here and the fact that they are so passionate about their craft really does show. Me and my family loved it here from the entrée, the mains and then the dessert 👌🏾 Keep up the great work guys.

It was our first outting to Mr Illingsworth and we weren't quite sure what to expect. We were a party of 5 for Mothers Day and are all seasoned restaurant diners so our standards are high. We started with the shared starters - the spicy cauliflower bites and pulled beef croquettes. They were absolutely delicious and obviously all made fresh by the kitchen. Big thumbs up from all of us. But the best was yet to come. The eye fillet was a visual feast and perfectly cooked, one of our party had the pizza and found the thin, crispy base and topping was freshly made by the restaurant and faultless, while the fish and chip orderers on our table easily had the best fish and chips any of us had seen or tasted. Beautifully cooked fish in crispy thin batter, and the chips are just the best ever.

Mr Illingsworth is a tremendous addition to Te Atatu Peninsula. The food is 5/5. The service was great. The staff are friendly and efficient. We will all be back. Thanks for a great evening and Mothers Day.

First time here and tried pork belly bites for entree and eye fillet and donuts for desert . Good food and good service and reasonable prices

Nice venue, staff were very pleasant. Cocktails were made very nicely. Outside is okay, right next to another cafe so can be abit distracting but I had a really good experience here 👍

Yummy food, nice service and only a short wait for the meals. We ordered a pizza, garlic bread and prawns and were very pleased to receive them all at the same time after only a short wait. All three items were full of flavour and very enjoyable. We weren’t sure why the waitress brought us tomato sauce considering what we ordered, maybe that is their normal process to place a bottle of sauce in he table after a customer has ordered.

The staff were brilliant, especially the one Maori bar man , who sorted out the beverages. The desert and food was exceptional ! The ambience was very nice , the only thing I would recommend is for the customers to choose a time where it isn't that busy ( we went 6:00 pm Friday night)

A great local not trying to be anythjng it’s not! Always good food and service, great drinks selection and love that we can sit out in the sun. Worth a try!

Staff are fantastic, can't fault them at all. Friendly and attentive.
Ordered the Tat North cocktail which was quite sweet but I liked it. Tiger Prawns starter was really nice, good flavors and cooked well. Had the doughnuts for dessert which were also quite tasty, served with a dollop of icecream which I could have done with a bit more of.
This place seems rather busy on the weekend, so perhaps be prepared for a longer wait time and maybe book in advance.
I'm not personally a fan of the big screens playing the sports but I get why people might like that.
Overall pretty good, would come back.

I'm interested in places where the menu offers something different or more interesting than the other local places. Unfortunately this is neither.

I had ordered the pizza, roast potatoes and battered fries, accompanied with a cider and cocktail. The drinks were nice and refreshing, as with the potatoes and fries they were delicious and flavoursome. The pizza though it was good, the cheese was quite solid when it had come out and the cherry tomatoes were a tad unripe. The atmosphere of the restaurant was friendly along with the staff, and the decor was stylish also. However when I tried to visit again with my two sisters, I was informed after getting seated, having already decided the food and drinks (15 mins total), that they do not serve minors unless with their legal guardian. They never told us before being seated nor have any signs of a sort posted on the premises, so that was an unpleasant finding. So overall, excluding this incident, I would come back again but clearly not with my minor siblings and avoiding the pizza. Hence why my rating, 3.5-4/5 😊

The (much needed) new kid on the block in Te Atatu Peninsula. Having just made my second visit, it seems to me they are doing pretty much everything right. It's a Trusts-owned venue, with a reasonable drinks range and an American bar/diner kind of vibe. Some outside seating, and very kid-friendly. Food and service have been top-notch for this type of venue, and I haven't experienced any of the delays others have mentioned, though we weren't there at peak times. So far, well executed and seems pitched perfectly for the Peninsula, which was in real need of this kind of venue. Likely to become the local regular for us.

We came here last Wednesday for the first time for dinner. We had the ribs entree, side of vegetables, fish and chips and the scotch fillet. I really enjoyed the ribs and side of vegetables, my husband said fish and chips were OK but excess oil on the fish brought the dish down and my friend enjoyed her steak. I would come back for a second visit.

Really lovely staff. Very nice and can't fault them. The kids pizza, hard to get wrong, was okay. Then we waited. And waited. Then the fish and chips arrived. Not great. Burnt batter. Burnt taste. Then the steak and chicken salad arrived. Steak only barely warm, chicken salad very nice apparently. Again, lovely staff. Kitchen needs to seriously lift their game.

Great night on the Friday before Christmas, great atmosphere, very busy, food great, service good, part of order sent to another table, was sorted and the chef came to apologise. Will be back.

Came here on a Thursday night after it not being open for long, it was super busy had to wait for 15 minutes for a table. Would recommend to book. Nice decor and lots of space, doesnt feel crammed or loud. The waitress we had was super friendly and helpful! The food was pretty good, had the chicken burger without the bun, which was nice. prices are up there but the food is worth it. Would come back.

Mr Illingsworth is a wonderful restaurant. Staff are very friendly and the menu is good! Their Espresso Martini is the best cocktail that I have had for Years! Keep up the good work!

This is the new local pub in Te Atatu. Hubby and I went tonight and really enjoyed it. We had the fish and chips and buttermilk fried chicken and both were delicious. It has a great atmosphere and the service was top notch.
The only drawback was that parents were allowing their kids to run around the place like it was a playground.

Our first time here but it certainly won’t be our last! We enjoyed the garlic flat bread and ribs to start, very moorish and cooked to perfection. Mr 5 had the kids fish n chips and my wife had the adult size. Awesome amount of fish and nice beer battered fries. My chicken burger was very tasty but could have been bigger. The cocktails and mocktails we tried would keep is coming back on their own! Overall a great addition to the Pen, IllingsWORTH a visit!
