We ordered our food, the staff were amazing. Had our drinks, food arrived, oh my goodness it was so so so delicious. We went to different cafes for a meal but we will be back wow thank you all for a fantastic lunch. Look at what they have on the walls, history, it was fantastic.

The staff were great, very attentive. We both got the steak med rare with mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked beautifully and the sauces both on the steak and potatoes were delicious. Would definitely go again for the steak or maybe a burger but personally I wasn't interested in the other options on the menu.

This is one of our local restaurants/bars and it's definitely a place to visit if you are coming into town. The food is great, the atmosphere is awesome and the staff are happy and friendly.

Having been to Redoubt elsewhere before, this was expected to be as good. Was not disappointed. Although quiet when we went, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. The food was tasty and portions were just right. A great place if you're looking for a bit of local sporting history, great food and a friendly chat.

Amazing meal and service! Was an experience superseding what you would expect from a corner pub in TA. Food was beautifully prepared and tasted amazing!

We were passing through on our way back to Taranaki and both felt like eggs bene. We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door and water was brought straight to our table. We ordered the Eggs Florentine which is very similar to eggs bene. I had fried chicken and my partner had bacon with his. Our plates were delivered to our table within 15 minutes and they were absolutely devine. The waitress asked how our meals were and we were back on the road in no time. I love the signed whisky bottles around the pub. I asked the barman who signs them and he said just random people who take the last shot. Pretty cool. Will definitely return to eat and drink whisky!

Nice interior, prompt lunch service. The fish dish I had was ACTUAL fresh Terakihi, 3 fillets and they were delicious and filling.I am very picky about Fish.My 2 dining companions different meals were superb also. It is a very popular place for good reason. Great menu selection, and though I have not been there at night, it is always busy.

After a meeting and feeling hungry I hunted down a place to get a decent meal in Te Awamutu and thankfully came upon this place. Walked in to a warm, cosy environment with funky music playing and a fire blissfully dancing along. Ordered at the bar where two lovely young servers were ready to help and assist me. Ordered a steak meal with a side of mushrooms and a good ol pint of Heiny. Meal came out quickly. It was plated simply but the flavour was fantastic, the star of the meal was definitely that beautifully well cooked medium rare piece of meat. I enjoyed every mouthful and the side of mushrooms went superbly well with my meal. After nearly licking the plate clean I had no intention of getting dessert but a guy I'm assuming is the manger swiftly came to my table to offer a dessert menu so I just had to taste what they had to offer. I ordered the Apple and rhubarb crumble which was devine! Although I would have appreciated a bit more crumble. After my meal I thanked the staff. My evening was complete and I left a very happy man. Totally recommend this place! Te Awamutu you are lucky to have this fine establishment in your midst. Get in there!!

A cozy place to dine, one of the busier restaurants in TA. For 2, we ordered a half pizza (butter chicken + poaka), chicken quesadilla, and pork croquettes. Even though nothing stood out for me, it was still quite nice. Pizzas had generous amounts of topping, but the butter chicken pizza didn't taste like butter chicken at all and was a bit under seasoned. The poaka was nice and smoky; the sweet BBQ sauce complemented it well. The pizza base was a bit hard. The chicken in the quesadillas were tender, it was well seasoned and had generous amounts of cheese. Sides of guac, sour cream, and salsa topped it off nicely. The croquettes were nicely crumbed, the potato inside was creamy, but the pork was a bit under seasoned again. The apple sauce, aoili and BBQ drizzle added extra layers to the flavor. We also ordered a tap beer and wine. The beer tasted very fresh, and I'm pretty sure they gave me 2 standard drinks worth of wine 😋.
I thought service was a bit messy though, the waitress was giving us weird looks as we ordered, kept saying we would need takeaway boxes by the end, asked me how old I was incredulously after I ordered wine, and then forgot our drinks order...
It ended up being around 85, but we probably ordered enough for 3 people, so not too bad!

For the price, the Redoubt is fantastic. It has a nice "pub" feel to it, with good-quality, fairly-priced fare. The steak was cooked to proper "medium rare", a rarity in NZ, and was very tender. The salad that my partner had was a proper-sized portion and quite delicious. You probably wouldn't take someone here on a date to impress, but for a place to drop in for a bite and a pint, you certainly could do much worse.

Regular visitors to the redoubt, like their new menu especially there pizza's which are really good value, my wife and I can't eat the $20 half between us. We look forward to their wildfood challenge every year, great place for a casual meal or to sit outside with a drink and people watch

I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy absolutely delicious food in an interesting, relaxing setting. We ordered and were stoked with the pork belly with portobello mushrooms on ciabatta, fish & chips, chowder, Wonder Woman pizza & a kids meal. All were yummy. There was a really lovely smoky taste in the pizza and nice bit of crispness in the pork belly. Five stars, yeah definitely :)

I have eaten many times at The Redoubt, it's my local, but just wanted to write again and add that the Redoubt continues to please us every time!
There staff have changed alot in the last few months but they are always very friendly, and seem to really love their jobs!
The food continues to be outstanding. They just recently were awarded a gold merit for there lamb and beef dishes, which I think were very worthy of this distinction.
Cheers and go guys!!

Myself and two colleagues were in Te Awamutu for work and were recommended to try the Redoubt. Walking in without booking on a Tuesday night we liked the cosy feel of what seemed a very nice bar, and expected we would get a good selection of bar/cafe meals. We were blown away by the quality, presentation and most of all the taste of what we ate.

We all opted for starters and mains - bruschetta and Thai mussels for my colleagues and corn fritters with prawns and rocket. All were so good that there were no offers of sharing!! My prawns had just enough garlic to be flavourful, without over powering the light and fluffy corn fritters (or offending the others in our meeting the next day!). The mussels smelt great, with a tangy spicy Thai coconut broth and the bruschetta looked very appetising (which I guess you expect in an appetiser!!).

Mains arrived after just the right amount of time for the starters to settle - pork-belly for me, with a smokey/mustardy sauce on top and a perfect bubble and squeak underneath. The pork was perfect - tasty, crisp outside yet still tender flesh plus a beautifully crackly skin! To my left, what looked like a perfect scotch fillet was being enjoyed tender bite by tender bite while to my right the Miss Piggy pizza (pork, bacon etc and very stringy cheese!) was being heartily devoured.

Deserts were ordered - not because we needed them, but because we simply had to keep tasting the fantastic food that was coming out of this kitchen! My cheesecake was superb, with the addition of a fresh blackberry sauce and presented with real style (cloud-like spun sugar adding a gossamer touch of sweetness atop the tangy tasty cheesecake!). The creme brulee was declared a champion, being a caramel rather than vanilla custard and the jersey cow also found favour.

Our meals were so good that the next night we regretted following another recommendation to visit Fahrenheit (where the ribs were great but the steaks seriously overcooked and the bruschetta unimaginative), so we headed back to Redoubt for desert and again were delighted!

Everything was prepared and presented with style and care, the tastes were perfect and the combinations of flavours could not be faulted. I was impressed, when I took the chance to thank the sous chef and kitchenhand, that such great meals came from what appeared to be quite a young team. These folk have certainly turned some great experience and real talent into excellent meals.

We will be back for more next time we are in Te Awamutu.

Thanks
Sarah

I eat at the redoubt tonight drove all the way from Raglan After waiting far to long for a meal I found the steak as tough as leather due to being killed in the pan. I asked for medium and well over done. My partners Murphy pie was cold. I spoke to waitress and she said What do you want me to do? Like what were my options Well I was hungry I was not going to wait another 1/2 hour for it to be done again and my partner didn't want to have his microwaved So I requested that she took it into consideration when paying. Discount NAAA Didn't happen due to the fact the chef never saw it it didn't happen I shan't eat or drink there and recommend if you are looking for a descent meal with good customer service go somewhere else even Mac Donald's

Have been for lunch and dinner, throughly enjoyed it. And a wise person told me if you go to a place and its busy with people eating then the food must be good. And well im happy to say we love the food and I've taken a few suppliers there for lunch they they enjoyed it also. So much so they always say lets go to the Redoubt for lunch. Well done :-)

This place is was a total let down from start to finish. The food was below what I would expect from a pub bar menu, (which isn't exactly high) and also over priced.

When our group asked for something to be done in regards to the amount of food we had been given, the staff were unprepared to help. In the end they were basically smerking at us, so we decided to leave and take our business to Cambridge.

Never again, and it's a shame that as a local I am not prepared to spend my money locally. Also this place charges extra if you want sauce, get real! Be warned diners, if you want decent food and more than basic service then I suggest you go else where.
