Amazing food, service & restaurant - definitely deserves a 5/5 :) after a long day of driving from Queenstown back to Timaru on Saturday, 14FEB15, we didn't yet have a dinner reservation organised for the night, with a recommendation for my BF's friends (locals) it was decided to try out The Oxford. From the moment we walked in, the staff were so welcoming & accommodating, especially since we didn't have a booking! We were guided to our table - very elegant decor throughout the restaurant & heart-shaped chocolates awaited for us on our napkins. The dinner menu looked very moreish – I couldn’t wait to order! My goodness what an excellent choice for dinner, from the moment our meals arrived, we knew, we were in for a special treat tonight – I had the Venison, served medium rare with roast portobello mushroom, beetroot, baby spinach salad, pomegranate & hazelnut dressing and my BF had the Grilled Ribeye, with roast potatoes, onions, green beans, crisp fried egg, steak sauce – our meals were superbly delicious; I swear I could of had another serving of my meal, as it was the best venison dish I’ve ever eaten in my life! Dessert to share, was the Pavlova with fresh strawberries & cream (no kiwi fruit, as I already had my sweet Kiwi man sitting next to me). It was delicious too, no debates won on who first invented the Pavlova – the Aussies or the Kiwis. Sadly that night, I didn’t take any photos our my meals (yes, I’m one of those people that take food pictures), I wish I did, so I could’ve upload them to this review, but as it was a romantic night, the iphone stayed hidden in the handbag. Overall, I was so glad we went to The Oxford for Valentine's Day dinner - my BF & I had such a lovely time together - looking forward to going there again & again next time we are back in Timaru :) Thank-you for a wonderful night!

Visited at lunchtime on Monday. Not many eateries were open on that day. Quiet and comfortable place. Fast service. Food was exceptional. We ordered a salad with squid and chicken schnitzel. Will certainly visit this place again when travelling through Timaru. Thank you!

Arrived without a reservation on Saturday night but seated in about 20 mins. I had the venison and it was fantastic! One of the best meals I have ever tasted! Carol had the prawn and salad entrees as a main and was similarly impressed. Highly recommend!

You are in Timaru and want the best food you had in ages? Then go to The Oxfort! Went there twice back to back for dinner and it was fantastic. Do not miss the desserts, especially Crème Brûlée. Everything we got was really tasty. If you can, make a reservation.
