Review Stripe Cafe - Titirangi

Maree S Boucher
The hidden gem of Titirangi <3 I’m a little obsessed with this cafe, so much character and great vibrant energy! Food, coffee, service and atmosphere is really just mesmerising, you just feel at home. I met the owner and he has such a love and passion for people and the hospitality industry. Thank you so much for an enjoyable breakfast Stripe team. This will be my new local hotspot!

I've been here a few times now and I would go back. Always a good feed, prices are reasonable, service is friendly & welcoming. Thank you for the food.
Henry Purdie
Good coffee and a nice quiet atmosphere. The hot brownie is also nice

Great service staff and food at Stripe Cafe. Nice outdoor area to relax and enjoy your food in. A mistake with an order was quickly rectified. Parking is a mission, esp on weekends, but a little walk never hurt anyone. Highly recommend!

I've been wanting to come to this cafe for ages, and I'm glad I was able to do so today. They offer great cabinet food, menu items, and a long list of both hot and cold drinks. The lady was very friendly and helped me decide on which of the goodies to try. There are little nooks of seating inside and outside, so it makes you feel a little bit secluded from the rest. They have a peaceful courtyard with a play pen for the kids. The only downside is that parking is very limited near the cafe. There is parking a bit futher away

Giving 5 stars because I can’t do 4.5 stars. Some of the interior could be touched up, like the cobwebs, the missing toilet button, the walls having scuff marks. But that stuff is really easy to look past when the food and location is so good, and the staff so friendly!

Bacon Benny and Chicken burger tastes nice, and shoestring fries are delicious. The portion's OK. New York cheesecake is dense and cheesy. Just the table surface is not even, so my coffee tipped over a bit while dragging it.

Went to Stripe cafe for breakfast. Found the cafe on google and thought we would give it a try. Atomic coffee was bomb, the food was amazing - I got the corn fritters and my friend got the eggs Benny - all beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Highly recommend, such a cute little cafe, oh and with lovely service! 🥰

Wonderful little brunch spot. Beautifully prepared all day breakfasts, freshest produce, perfectly balanced flavours. It's a great spot for kids - it has a little sand pit and the outdoor, covered dining is lovely. I had lunch with my Grandfather who having lived local for over 15 years hadn't heard of it! Must be a hidden gem.

Really cute little place, a bit scruffy inside but don't let that deter you, the food is delicious and presented beautifully, with perfect portions, not to mention the coffee is amazing. The staff are lovely. Thanks to the whole team ❤️

Best eggs Benny I've had in a while and great coffee! Loved how the coffee's came out in cute cups and saucers!! Got a parking spot right outside too- will definitely be back to try the other menu offerings 😍

Great spot. Puppy friendly Superb eggs bene Great coffee

Always love going to Stipe for a cuppa and bite to eat. Only comment would be that Stripe get a bit of pride and get their Cafe sign and general building maintenance done as detracts from an other great cafe experience.
Jaya
Loved that it's it's dog friendly and had a covered area outside so when it rained we stayed dry. Friendly staff and good food. Only downside was my French toast could have been a larger portion :) but maybe because it was super delicious

Went for lunch, the food was very nice, had a big breakfast type. The place was not that busy but friend say its really busy in the mornings we were about 1pm.
Peter Borman
Had early lunch here today and it was very good. Burger was good, our vegan attendee was happy with thier meal. Portions were generous.
Sophie Wright
Always look forward to coming here, food is always tasty and generous portions. Staff are friendly and there are plenty of nice places to sit indoors and outside too.

Our usual go to place for family catchups.
Good service, good food and above all super dog friendly.
Never disappointed and worth a shot if you’re out west :)

Been here a few times and always had amazing food. Super hungover this morning and got a takeaway eggs Benedict and it was to die for ! Little separate container for the hollandaise too and eggs were perfect ! Really chuffed 👌

Finally went here late one weekday afternoon. The ordering at the counter bit caught me out so after I figured that out (it had been a long day!) I ordered a mango smoothie & the mushrooms on toast. The smoothie was a delicious mix of mango & coconut. The mushrooms on toast came out with two pieces of sourdough. You get to choose the type of bread, I was so tired the only type of bread I could think of was sourdough. The mushrooms were in a lovely white wine horseradish sauce, it was really tasty but it needed more seasoning. Overall I’ll probably pop in at quieter times as I imagine it would get super busy at the usual brunch times.

Best eggs benedict I've ever had. Hands down. I was very impressed. Not to mention the place is super cute. I love it. I wish I lived closer to it. Hehehe
Vegietariyum
Food ok, toilets looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for a month. Staff brought menus to table but had to go to counter to order! One of the orders which was only Scrambled eggs, took 25mins!
Lucyeatsakld
Had the vegetarian big breakfast, was nice but a bit bland and underseasoned, apart from the spinach which was super salty. Loved the hashed potatoes! Good strong coffee and super cute interiors
Emma Raven
Super tasty meals, the decor is a bit average but if you’re there for the food you won’t care. Spot on taste wise in everything I’ve tried from baked goods to eggs bene. Friendly staff too.
Teanawhorskey
The hash cakes on both the stripe breakfast and the eggs benedict were amazing; nice and crispy

Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Also one of the smoothest iced coffees I have had in a long time
Wawman
Their beef burger was well seasoned, extremely juicy and bun-meat ratio was superb! Definitely a must order. We had waffles as well, had an Asian twist to it (bubble waffles), loved the the combination of mango, blueberries and apples, though serving size could be improved. :) Friendly and approachable staff :)

Came here for late lunch with the family. The kids pasta was disgusting.. I tried it. It honestly had no taste. My daughter did try to eat it. We also had a chocolate cake, that was horrible. I had salad.. That was nice. My a partner had the burger and fries, he said it was good. Scones had no flavour as well. So some things are nice, but some things I know to avoid, if we go again?

Came here late in the afternoon. I ordered the loaded wedges it was great no complaints there. My friend ordered the French toast, it was a very small serving size for the price she paid and she did it was an average taste. Otherwise the staff were friendly the decor was awesome and they have a lovely outdoor area with a sand pit for kids and also dog friendly.

Came here 23.8.17 got the beef burger with a side of fries and aioli and it was absolutely delicious service was great and I'm definitely going back the only reason I didn't give a 5 was that the aioli didn't taste that great. Can't wait to try out three rest of the mean over time 😊

What a neat little cafe in beautiful Titirangi. A house-converted-cafe so naturally it has a very homely feel to it, the choice of decor also reinforced this. I ordered the french toast which was served in quite a creative way the outer layer resembled something of a muesli bar coated in oats or something, it gave a nice contrasting texture to the inside which was almost a cake-like consistency, quite moist & soft; garnished with fresh fruit & coffee flavoured mascarpone. The gingerbread latte was an item on the menu that immediately caught my eye and tasted exactly as the name suggested, like gingerbread in a warm milky, frothy form. I must say I quite enjoyed it all. A unique variation on a dish we all know & love without being excessive or too flamboyant

Great food and ambience. The menu shown on Zomato is not correct. Delighted to see an eggless cake! It tasted awesome too. Would definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Visited the cafe on a Saturday for brunch, we were a party of 5 so we made reservations ahead. Upon arrival we were greeted and shown to our table. The decor was warm, cosy and charming. I ordered The Stripe, poached eggs were perfect and bacon not too oily. The Mochaccino was good, I find the mug charming.

Wanted to score a 5 but the staff forgot my order when everyone's meal was already on the table but I didn't have to wait too long and she was apologetic.

We'll be coming back...
Bubbly Peanut Butter
Went there with my partner and we were both surprised about how lovely the decor is. You would never expect, it would be a cafe from the outside.

The mocha was a bit too sweet for me but my partner loves it. I guess it's about personal preference.

Heard from a friend that their Eggs Benedicts was their signature dish. And... It was one of the best I ever had in Auckland!

Definitely will go back there and recommend you to have it a go.

Thanks Martin (chef) for this experience.

This is one of west auckland's gem! This cozy modern cafe didn't disappoint our morning appetite.

You wouldn't know that this house is actually a cafe from the outside. They have some seats in the inside and also an outdoor garden area.

They have a range of delicious cabinet goodies you can choose from which they will serve with some sides. And also a simple but promising breakfast menu that is worth ordering.

I have ordered the salmon bene and I was surprised that instead of using bread they have used a potato fritter as the base. This was perfect that goes along well with everything. My mochachinno was also perfect- not too strong and not too chocolatey.

The fluffy pancake is definitely one of the dishes you should order! Pancake was fluffy and just cooked right. Not too dry. And the generous fruits topped it off.
Highly recommend this place. Will go back

Really quiet and comfortable place to have lunch, people working there were very nice too. Had BLAT because beef burger is all sold out, enjoy the bacon and Turkish bread. The size is really big and I couldn't finish the whole plate.
Shane
Popped in for breakfast, nice outdoor seating, great coffee, food and service. Prices fair and today's paper to read. We would go back again.

I came here with my mates prior to our hike in whatipu since it was pretty close there. I love this hidden gem! (Hidden for me since I'm not from waitakere) the cafe is pretty cute. Nicely coloured green. It wasn't that busy that time around 8.30am so we sat at the bench by the door and window. They served heaps of cabinet food and also menu food. I have ordered the stripe breakfast and a large soy flat white. The herb potato cake was soooo good! I didn't think I could finish the whole meal but I did! And I was overly impressed with the flat white. Since I drink it with soy, most flat white I get to drink has large chunks of milk afloat like it has curdled quickly but this time my flat white hasn't done that so I am so impressed and I really enjoyed it! I would love to come back there again, maybe for my next hike in the waitakeres :)

Visited on Mothers' Day. A woman who was possibly the duty manager seemed a bit under pressure (blurting out "the kitchen's closed" as soon as we arrived and giving us one of those strained "retail smiles" as we left). Prices are freakin astronomical and although the quality of the food is fine and it's Titirangi, darling, it doesn't justify the price gouging. $9.50 for a very small bowl of chips - holy heck! Asked for no disposable items with our order...a straw arrived with my husband's smoothie (and the smoothie was pretty average tasting, according to him). When you're paying these kind of prices, customer expectations will be high, and sadly, our expectations weren't met on this occasion.

Our experience here had some hits and misses. After a hike at the Waitakeres we found this Lovely cafe tucked away in a side street. It has outdoor courtyard seatings, perfect for summer. We sat indoors in a booth by the window. Noticed the cushions were slightly run down.

Food wise, my friend ordered a cabinet sandwich and was not impressed. They did a donut and bacon dish which looked really pretty but was wayyyy too cinnamon(y) for my liking. On the other hand, my smoked fish croquettes were delicious.

Ice coffee was yum. :)

This place is awesome, a friend took me there a few weeks back and the coffee and food was so good I had to come back again. The food is as good as it gets and is made with love, you can taste it!

Even the hot choclate had hand grated chocolate sprinkled all over - such a nice touch.

Mmm cant wait to go back, well done Stripe!

Beautiful little cafe off the main street beautiful food, fresh and very well presented, great coffee and a cabinet full of tasty treats which will leave you wanting more, would of posted a picture of the food but it was gone ! A must try if you are in the area

What a delightful cafe in the middle of Titirangi where you'd never expect a cafe. Great take out coffee and will definitely go back for a meal. Our ginger loaf was cold like I prefer but it was dry and crumbly in texture although the flavour was great; I didn't care too much for the icing but that's a personal preference. The service was excellent and as mentioned would go back for a sit down meal which has been recommended.
Love Food
Good place for lunch with confort atmosphere,
Nice yummy food, cheese cake and coffee.
I am pretty sure most people enjoy having meals in stripe cafe.

I really enjoy coming to Stripe cafe on a summers day and sitting in the outside garden area - which also has a sandpit if you have children (beware of the wasps that often frequent outside). Stripe is quite small, so come slightly ahead of peak dining times to nab a good seat as it can get quite busy.

I come here not only for a sunny spot to hang out, but also for the really good food on offer. The food is beautifully presented, there are some interesting dishes on the menu, the portion sizes are generous, and the prices are reasonable. I would recommend the lemon and oatmeal hotcakes which are filling and delicious! And they also have a few tasty gluten free options at the counter.

Overall, a really relaxed and summery little cafe which serves food that will leave you full and satisfied.

Have only stopped in on my way to work but today I had a sit down lunch and it was really yum, only let downs were the price to "make your own" basic eggs on toast, with glutenfree bread was really getting up there. Also $2 more for free range eggs when I really believe they should be standard!!

I could move into Stripe. Awesome location, lovely atmosphere whether outside in the courtyard or beside the cosy gas fire. Great coffee and super range of cakes etc. I guess they have great menu food too but I haven't got that far yet. Next visit ...

Absolutely loved my black sticky rice for breakfast. Looked beautiful also. Cute atmosphere. Amazing cabinet food Only reason it's not a 5 as some of our table service was a wee bit slow! Otherwise happy with this place.

We ordered the Eggs (Free Range), with mushrooms and tomatoes as add ons - these came in generous portions. The toast was a lovely natural grain (home made?) bread, and came as a lovely thick slice. Our coffees were also excellent. I always enjoy coming to this cafe which is doggy friendly, as you can sit outside with your dog after a nice walk, and breathe in some fresh clean Titirangi air. Def will be back for coffee and cake, as the cakes did look rather delish! Stripe is just down the hill from Lopdell House beside the Titirangi Fire Station, or over the road from the Titirangi RSA.

Was good I've had better eggs Bene and not the biggest meal. Enjoyable enough just a bit pricey, I had the stripe breakfast was a bit different with the potato hash cake and no bread. I think something on the side not just the small slither of bacon would be nice, perhaps even just a little salad leaves or fried mushrooms? Really friendly staff though and nice venue.

YOU MUST CHECK THIS PLACE OUT
I searched Zomato for cafes in Titirangi and STRIPE CAFE popped up!!
OMG how did I not know this fabulous cafe existed!
The owner Don is a lovely woman, we got talking about cakes and cheffing, something we both have in common, my two friends and I were all very impressed.
We had the Big Stack, the Stripe Breakfast, which is a better size for the girls hehe, and the Montecarlo salmon bene on potato rosti.
All delicious.
Great holly, eggs cooked to perfection, delicious streaky bacon perfectly cooked to crispy.
Yummy sausages, a hard find in nz we travel to Dublin a lot and irish sausages are to die for.
So we have a very high standard on the good ol humble sausage!!
And OMG.... finally.... we have found a cafe that HEATS their plates (a real pet peeve for me as no one seems to do it theses days!!)
Great coffee and the earl grey tea was presented nicely, a very sassy looking cake cabinet too.
So good, we had to do take away on sweets as we were too full after breakfast.
Will definitely be back lovely staff fast service quaint venue.
TICKS ALL THE BOXES well done guys the best place we have eaten at in Titirangi by far.
PS Just had the decadent chocolate cake and Ohhhhh my!
Yup its amazing!
Just like the owner Don said it would be. You can tell that only the best ingredients have been used, and that it was made with love, just like my baking.
It really does show when someone has a true love of baking.
Cheesecakes for dessert tonight but I did have a little nibble and yup as good as it looks.
Have always enjoyed stripe. Never had to wait long, always enjoyed my chai and breakfast. Staff are friendly,
Sometimes they have seemed rather stressed but that's working in hospitality at times ! Love the cute little brick house also
Donna&Shane
Great little cafe.... Much nicer decor than what it was before .... Breakfast is yummy... Although I prefer inside as not fussed eating outside with the amount of people that have a need to bring their dogs as well (I have dogs too but they prefer to go to a park !)
Valeria Sergueevna Perejoguina
Really good !!! Big portion meals, amazing coffee ( with hazelnut ) and everything fresh ! Friendly and good atmosphere :) close to everything in titirangi really recommended !!!!

This place is so good I do not want to write a review about it, keep it a secret, its that good ! Actually, great is a better word !
Ideal for the gluten-intolerant, their version of French Toast using Banana bread is beyond exciting, its unbelievably good. Coffee was perfect, outdoor setting is private and staff are so friendly. Go there, on second thoughts, don't go there, cause I like it being a secret :)

What a great place to pop into after our loop walk to French Bay today. I asked if they crush the ice in their iced coffees and they immediately said that they could do that. And they arrived in tall glasses and tasted of coffee instead of the fake vanilla coffee flavour that so many others use. Delicious. Then the girl came and asked how they were. I replied that there was just one problem - the spoons provided did not reach the bottom of the tall glass. So off she went and returned with a long handled spoon. Great service. My friend and I will certainly want to return.

I came away from Stripe feeling disappointed after a long anticipated visit to give one of my locals a go. We went with Miss 7 y.o and after a long wait for coffee (this was after we were told food was a 40 minute wait but coffee orders wouldn't take long), they served our coffee first while Miss 7 y.o looked longingly at our hot drinks waiting for her one to arrive. Food finally came and we had to scrounged around for the pepper to add flavour to a bland eggs bene. The brioche French toast and the kids crepes were thick in a sugar syrup which is not a healthy way to serve adults and especially Children's food. Meals are on the higher price range for brunch and coffee was ok. Seating is cosy but other than that, staff were friendly.
Chloe
I have been there before and the food was alright but this time I ordered the waffles and they were cold and rock hard the texture was like eating a ginger nut it was so horrible I will not be going there again .

We regularly go to another local cafe for breakfast, but thought we would try something new last weekend and give Stripe a go.

Sadly we had a terrible experience. Stripe don't do table service, which is fine - but its polite to mention so on the menus so one doesn't waste 20 mins waiting to be served.

Once I did manage to try and order, the waitress was rude when I queried the lack of vegetarian options on the menu. She told me I would need to make up my own dish from the sides listed, if I was not keen on the sweet options. When I pay for breakfast I dont expect to have to patch together a meal from side dishes. It also seemed outright silly to ask customers to pay $2 extra should they want free range eggs, free range is the least I'd expect from a cafe charging $28.50 for a big breakfast.

But the worst came when I went to return to my table after placing my order - the waitress said she would need to hold a credit card before cooking our meal. It seems she did not trust a young family with a baby not to do a runner on a Saturday morning! It was at this point we gave up on the place, cancelling our coffees and headed back up the hill to Vevo, and appreciated the varied menu, friendly service, and meals a good $5 cheaper.

Stripe does have a beautiful courtyard space, I will give them that - but its not enough when the service is down right horrendous.

Let me explain my 'average' rating.
I actually like this place more than the stars suggest.
HOWEVER...
1) Your barrista skills need to improve. Serving lip burningly hot coffee may be acceptable for the rushed executive on their way to work needing something coffee flavoured that will still be warm halfway down Great North Road. BUT, you should know better. At the correct temperature and pressure your fresh coffee beans will have their flavours and oils extracted correctly. This will also lead to a pleasant mouth feel. Currently your coffees are too hot, have the mouth feel and taste of Greggs instant coffee. Your milk texturing is good. As a result you have a great looking coffee that is low on taste and texture. Please ensure your staff receive some barrista training and use freshly roasted beans (ask your supplier the roast date and use unopened sealed bags within a few weeks of this date). Good cafes should not be producing rubbish coffee these days.
2) Out the back now looks a lot tidier. HOWEVER, you have heaps of fresh sheep poo as your top layer in your planters. As a result I enjoyed my recent visit surrounded by lots of flies and the background odour of poos. How about applying some mulch on top of the sheep poo so your customers don't have to imagine your café is on a rural farm?
3) Food. For the last 2 years your menu hasn't changed. How about adding in some seasonal changes? Since you are also in the catering business you should know you need to make things exciting for customers. Prices are too hefty for the quality on offer. And charging $2 extra for organic eggs is silly- at the prices you charge I would expect them to be organic.
4) Service. Usually quite good. But room for improvement. Please no thumbs from staff resting in my food when the plate is brought to the table.
Overall a nice addition to the local scene. However I don't like being surrounded by poos and flies and I become agitated when cafes don't produce great coffee and let teenagers play make-believe barristas.

My favourite place for coffee. Have had some good food here too :)

I particularly like the flavour shots added to my mocha, peppermint or mayan spice!

Be sure to say hi to Artie for me when you're there.

Cheers Stripe!
Chris
Great coffee, lovely staff, great baking and awesome sausage rolls! We haven't tried the meals yet but will be returning for sure!
Gina Mitchell
This cafe has a relaxing courtyard surrounded with native plants that is perfect any time of the day. I really like the regular staff who work here (sorry don't know their names) but the guy is really nice and remembers what we order and always seems pleased to see us. Great coffee and fast service. Food is always served the way you like it if you have a preference (ie my mum has a thing for hard poached eggs). Also recommend the blackberry and ginger tea <3

Well set up. Possibly a little cramped inside but great outdoor space. Food is standard. Coffee is above average. Food is good to above average. Staff are young and generally friendly which gives a good energy.

Great spot for a cafe. Food is good but lacks conviction. Staff are friendly, coffee is good. Just a bit pricey for my liking. Doesn't justify what arrives on the plate.
