My wife Mary and I have been paying regular weekend lunch time visits for quite a while now, and we are never disappointed with what the Sugar Plum has to offer.
It's not just the glorious menu (the Buddah Bowls are just one of our favourites) and cabinet selection, but the warmth and welcoming from the happy team that hosts us.
We live in Waiuku so there are many lunch time options in the Franklin area to visit, but it's the Sugar Plum which we now regard as our regular 'local'.
We've eaten in restaurants and cafes all over the world, but the flavours, variety and service at the Sugar Plum rate as high as any. Thank you all. Steve Millington

Had coffee and cake for 2 this morning. What a cool little cafe. The staff were all very helpful and really friendly. Coffee was great and my ginger crunch was one of the best I've ever had. The Passionfruit cheesecake was pretty good too apparently. We're definitely returning here
The best cafe in tuakau let alone the whole Franklin region! Such a nice place with a great vibe to it, the food couldn't be better blows my mind every time, and the staff do an amazing job!
Awesome cafe, what a find in Tuakau! One of the best French Toast my kids have ever eaten! I had food envy, but my gluten free corn fritters where amaze balls too. Best hot chocolates we've had for a long time too, in a great cosy setting with friendly staff. Worth the trip to check it out!
Friendly staff and some delicious food. Sometimes it's the same stuff in cabinet each time I pop in and can get a bit boring but you can guarantee at least it's tasty.
Love dropping in to try their new creations though and will continue coming!

Had an amazing brunch at the Sugar Plum Kitchen this morning. I got the big breakfast with poached eggs. The size as huge and the eggs were poached perfectly! I enjoyed every part of the breakfast. I also had a Mocca which was also great, I always like when cafes give you jaffas with your coffee. Would highly recommend this fantastic cafe

A hidden little gem, tucked away on the rural fringes of Auckland, is the Sugar Plum Kitchen in Tuakau. Part of the Palms shopping complex that marks the start of the village business district, Sugar Plum Kitchen could be easily overlooked. Pity the fool that does just that as they could be missing out on some delicious treats. Despite being right next to the Main Trunk Line tracks, passing trains provide surprisingly little noise and the eclectic decor of the place (some regular cafe table seating, a leather banquette and some antique style couches and armchairs) seems to work. A book shelf trade & exchange and a community noticeboard provide that touch of small-town charm.
The kitchen menu is varied but relatively simple - where this cafe really shines is in the abundance of delicious options in the cabinet. It is incredibly hard to choose even between the sweet options, with savories also looking mouthwateringly good. I went for the strawberry tart and was not disappointed. Presentation was beautiful, served with a generous side of fresh cream. We also noticed a small fridge with chilled meals - ideal if you are out for lunch and stuck for what to do for dinner that night. The one disappointment was a fairly average flat white - the barista had been overzealous when frothing the milk. It's probably a snobby ex-barista thing to be disappointed in, but there we are.
Child-friendly with easy parking outside, smooth push-chair access and change facilities, as well as two high chairs available. There is also a small "shop" area selling boutique style goods that is definitely worth a nosey. On your way to Port Waikato or for a weekend drive, Sugar Plum Kitchen would be a great place to stretch those legs.
While I am writing this review months 6 months after our marriage we wanted to acknowledge and thank the staff for the fabulous catering, good quality food and great service that they provide for us at our wedding on the Discovery1 riverboat in Tuakau.
The food definitely met our high expectations. It was fresh and delivered on time. Sugar Plum supported us by providing a wait staff member for a reasonable fee and this young lady was very helpful and pleasant.
Everyone raved about the cake. Not only did it look beautiful but it was 10 out of 10 for taste.
If you are looking for catering for that special event we would recommend using Sugar Plum Cafe.

We went for coffee and a cake and were greeted by the sweetest girl who took our orders , she was very friendly and smiling and right away we felt welcomed.
We ordered coffees and a carrot cake for me and a cheese scone for him, both were exceptionally good, the cake was lush, moist and very carroty and the scone was fresh and cheesy, both had lots of love in them. A cool house music was on , a nice change from the boring music elsewhere and we loved it. The only criticism we had was the lack of atmosphere and ambience which can be easily rectified. The space is very big and there is a lot of light flowing from the many windows and doors so the bare white walls feel sterile and cold.
A dark color on some of the walls, such as the one they have in the toilets will bring the walls in and will create coziness. Few nice big plants and the same dark color on the green posts inside are all that is needed. By far the best service and amazing pastries would bring us back. Hopefully next time some attention to the decor would complete the great experience.
Cabinet food was amazing, so fresh and well presented. Excellent Coffee. Breakfast meal was great, especially the sausage. Owner was very friendly and very welcoming.
Absolutely a cute little cafe with one of the most refreshing food I’ve come across within Tuakau and pokeno . Although they did run out of some ingredients they recommended the Mussel Fritter and Chicken waffle , it was delicious! Fresh and Devine not to mention the coffee !I hardly write google reviews but this cafe is now going to be one of our Sunday morning places to go to . Friendly staff and just felt so cosy and a positive vibe , Lady at the counter explaining the menu was so good .

I was really impressed with Sugar Plum Kitchen. The only negative is there is little atmosphere - some music and plants would help - BUT the food counter looks amazing, the tea is of a high quality and the service polite and friendly.
I ate from the menu and from the cold counter and everything was good quality and tasty.
Really nice cafe with good food and a nice outside area for sitting. They had a "xmas special blend" option for their coffee and it was delicious.
We took our toddler here for lunch and they had childrens books for him to read which kept him entertained. He also loved seeing the trains go past.
