Review Fishtail Restaurant And Bar - Twizel

Decent food, and one of the few places open in Twizel on a Monday night. Fairly expensive for the portions - prices have gone up a lot (look at old menu photos). Friendly staff (including a very young chap doing his best).

What a wonderful place to eat Indian food. We took a chicken biryani and a butter chicken. Both plates were sooo tasty (and spicy but we love that). The staff is really friendly ! Thank you !!

Four of us ate two nights in a row at Fishtail in Twizel. All of us have been to northern India several times, and two had lived in Nepal for 2+ years as Peace Corps Volunteers. We love Nepali and Indian food, and can be particular as to the quality and genuineness. Fishtail Restaurant in Twizel exceeded our hopes high. H and H, the manager, Hemant, and the rest of the staff were welcoming, friendly, and competent. Highly recommended for great and genuine Nepali/North Indian food.

One of the best Indian Nepalese food I had tasted. The naan was absolutely mouth watering and the other dishes also took me by surprise! Ate there two days in a row.

Very pleasantly surprised to see Indian/Nepalese food in Twizel. The food was delicious, authentic Indian and everything we tried from the chicken biryani to the Garlic naans and Curries were made fresh to order. Also has a bar with wine and spirits. Restroom facilities and plenty of parking available. Highly recommended.

Food: Unbelievably delicious venison curry. If you are in or around twizel, it’s a “must eat”. I could go on and on about it and it still won’t do justice to how good it was. It fed my soul. Service: Friendly staff. Amazing service. Other restaurants nearby were already closed and the duty manager and kitchen staff at Fishtail went out of their way to fulfil orders for everyone even though they had to close too. I appreciate you all, Santosh and team! Thank you for a memorable experience :)

had two delicious dinners here a week ago. on the first night we ordered the lamb briyani and the aloo gobi. both dishes were fantastic, especially the briyani which was so flavourful and contained very tender lamb pieces. on the second night we had the palak paneer and the goat curry - both excellent as well and really authentic. we also really enjoyed the pleasant service from our waiter who was very kind and attentive. he also gave us some travel tips and told us which trails we could try at Mount Cook village. this is a must visit for anyone stopping by Twizel!

This place is a godsend. We made an impromptu 65 KM drive down from our accommodation in Mt Cook to this restaurant in Twizel after realising there were no viable dinner options in Mt Cook, and this couldn’t have been a better decision. The food here is so good I could cry. We ordered the butter chicken ($24), the lamb shank ($28), the vegetable jalfrezi ($21), one plain naan ($4) and one cheese and garlic naan ($7) to share between the two of us. As we had just finished two walking trails on Mt Cook and it was also pretty late by the time we arrived, we were starving. The food was incredible. Every dish was amazing. The lamb shank was cooked so well and fall-off-the bone tasty. The butter chicken was creamy and delicious. The vegetable jalfrezi was, and the naans did the perfect job of soaking up the curries. We even got a serving of basmati rice to go with our curries. Service here is really good as well. The restaurant team were welcoming and gracious even though they were really busy. This is definitely a restaurant we would recommend to anyone visiting Twizel.

Excellent service, very friendly staff. Well presented place. Busy evening but we felt welcomed and looked after. Food was great, mild curry was definitely very mild so if you want a bit of a kick go for medium!

Best Indian food I've ever tried. Very tender chicken, delicious fish masala, awesome rice. Everything was top notch. And the vibe is chill and laid back. They were closing at 9, we came at 8:50, and they still welcomed us in. Great experience.

Could have been a bit more spicy and a bit more creative with the spices. Tastes a bit boring for Indian food. However the only place to get food on Monday in Twizel (why?).

Ordered takeaway on Monday evening in November. The restaurant was full as most other restaurants are closed on Monday. Notified the waitstaff of a nut allergy and they made sure we understood which options were safe to order. Each dish when it arrived came with its own separate rice which was fantastic. Spice levels range from mild to hot to "Indian hot" (I am not kidding). After ordering a bunch of mild dishes we requested an "Indian hot" lamb madras which was about the same as the medium, definitely not as spicy as the dishes I've had in India... perhaps they were playing it safe after observing so much careful consideration of mild VS medium! Chicken tikka masala, chicken saagwala, Kedai paneer curries were cashew-free as expected and delicious. Fish tail lamb curry was tasty and flavourful. Cheese and garlic naans were great. Happy to report no allergies were triggered and we even had leftovers for breakfast so happy to give this 5 stars.

Love the place, we were a group of 10 people who came at a short notice, and they were happy to accommodate us! Food was great and the manager Lixma was helpful. Would recommend

I've been coming here with my partner to eat the lunch special (Butter Chicken) $15 and Teka Masala lunch special $15 both with Nun for the last few months and we have always been welcomed to dine in and eat. The customer service is friendly, preparation time is good timing also, no longer than 10 or 15 minute wait for the food to be ready. The rice and butter chicken is always set to a high standard, the presentation is set nicely and tastes great, with a variety of different spicyness (asked when ordering) from no spicyness to really spicy.

We were initially sceptical about the reviews at first but the food was quite convincing. Highlight for us is the Naan that was quite crispy (would have been better if everything was consistently crispy!). We also had the Butter chicken and Palek Paneer and our own regret was not increasing the spiciness level. Go for medium and above! The restaurant has limited seating and it is recommended to reserve. We were walk-in customers and were lucky to have seats. Overall, this is authentic Indian food that delivered according to expectations.
