Review Curry Workz - Upper Hutt

Graeme Wooller
Very tasty large meals which are value for money and fairly priced. The entree platter for two is only $18 and almost a full meal on its own. A good selection of vegetarian options and alcohol drinks. The service is always excellent as is the location with plenty of free car parks 😀
Joanne
Good food and generous portions. Will definitely return. The decor is a little bit dated and the front counter could use a glow-up, but the restaurant was clean and immaculate.
Peter Kinley
Very satisfying. A good filling meal with no reason to fault it. The decor is bad. It's old and in places looks like it's from a Vietnamese restaurant not an Indian restaurant. And it's worn. But on the positive side it's clean, really clean, and it even smelled clean. Nice service and good value for money.

We celebrated a 50th birthday here, the food is always great, staff really helpful and atmosphere very conducive for any event. Highly recommended.

Regular customers, the food along with the staff are excellent from the very first dining to now, three years later.

A go to for Indian in Upper Hutt. Fast, friendly service! Delicious curries! Highly recommend!

Have been here a couple of times and have been very impressed. They opened early to accommodate us and gave our little girls a free drink. The curries are excellent, lots of nuance and not just your usual run of the mill selection.
Michele Cozens
This has been our favourite Indian restaurant in Upper Hutt for over 5 years. We eat here on a weekly basis and enjoy the food as well as the warm, welcoming, smiling faces. We love the food with a good range to choose from.
Aaron Orr
Great prices, great food selection and one of the few places to have real food on the kids menu instead of the usual deep fried stuff.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. We ordered the non-vegetarian banquet, which was a bit 50/50. The butter chicken was the best, but the rogan josh wasn't flash. They have a huge menu, will probably stick to vegetarian dishes next time.

Curry Works is a great restaurant. We have had a function there and Hahindra and his family were great hosts. I would recommend them any day. The food is awsome always our go to restaurant even if we just want takeaways.

Past this place many times but went in on Saturday night. Not busy but the food was excellent. Lovely customer service as well. I asked a question and was answered straight away with an explanation. Definitely be going back there.

I ordered (takeaway) a Chicken Vindaloo (Indian hot), I like my food hot so I asked if they could make the Vindaloo hotter than Indian Hot, they said that they wouldn't feel comfortable serving something so hot, but instead of leaving it at that, they said they would give me extra chili sauce on the side, which I thought was awesome, and that extra chili made it perfect, I have had it twice in the last couple of weeks and will have it again soon, the garlic Naan and coconut rice were also great, this place should be way busier especially with the great service and compromise.

Great food nice people would recommend

Went here a couple of years ago and had an amazing experience. This time it was average. Food was alright, nothing special. Asked for hot, but wasn't spicy at all.<br/>Kids enjoyed the spring rolls. Service was quick and friendly.

So yummy one problem is we ordered by phone a kids size butter chicken for a child and they gave it to us too bloody spicy hot!! Only once its happened i dont think they understood the sizes or what we were saying. But usually really nice 😊
Jessy Gray
We had takeaway. Was really nice food and fast service. Just something to work, my partner asked about sizes of a couple of things and the lady, who was very lovely, seemed unsure of her answers. So we ended up having to guess amounts of things we were purchasing.

Everything was great! From being seated as soon as we walked in the door to making sure we had everything we needed. The service was great and the food was even better
Steve Bird
Had both take away and eat in. Good selection of meat, vegetarian curries, usual starters and Indian foods. Nan breads are soft and fresh - would highly recommend - good friendly service. Good selection of drinks and reasonably price to boot.

Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad ever since the restaurant changed owner ship it has been a bit of a hit and miss with this place some times it’s really good and some times it’s shit give it a try and see if u hit it on a good day or a bad day but the place is usually tidy but staff need a bit more training.

Great service , Amazing friendly staff always walk away feeling satisfied. Can handle large bookings and run smooth. Had many large bookings and always find the food comes out well. The coconut chicken is my fav at the moment.
Joanne Hunwick
Beautiful food and excellent service. Highly recommend. Reasonably priced too! Would certainly go there again especially for the butter chicken.

My Favourite place in Upper Hutt to get Butter Chicken! If you go here you MUST get the Roti Chanai it is the bomb. No one else does it but it is sweeter than a normal Roti. The Mango dessert is also very scrumptious. It is always a pleasure to get takeaways and dine-in. ☺️☺️

If I could rate this lower than a one I honestly would! Had the displeasure of ordering take away's from here.. The butter chicken was literal sh*t!! Watery with massive chunks of tomato in it. The rice was hard, and the nan bread were all burnt. This was a -5 and I'm so annoyed that I wasted $40+ on garbage!!! F**KING DISGUSTING.

Good night went there with friends for our Christmas party great night food was good and service was good. It's great it's a BYO so that helps overall great experience

CurryWorkz is my favorite Indian restaurant by far. The service is great, such friendly and helpful staff. They always go the extra mile - sometimes even delivering my takeaways to my car if it is raining instead of me having to come back in. The food is cooked to perfection and they have a great range! So flavor some and addictive. Top Indian in Wellington, in my opinion.  :) Thanks CurryWorkz for all of the lovely meals.

My wife goes into this eatery with her mother and a couple of friends every Thursday for lunch. I join them when I can, and would rate this place the best Indian eatery in Wellington easily. The staff are friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, and courteous. The food is good quantity wise, and great taste wise. They also go out of their way to accommodate special requests. Since the arrival of the new manager the standards have gone up, and the menu is always under review. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Indian eating experience

Really great restaurant. Went here yesterday with my wife, and it was absolutely delicious. We had an entree and mains. I had the chilli chicken, hot. It was hot, but not over the top. I've had hot food before at other restaurants which was way over the top, felt it hours later. But this was spiced very well. Yes, it was very spicy, but it did not burn for a long time. So, very good in my opinion.<br/><br/>The hosts/owners are amazing, very friendly and caring.

One of the best Indian food in Wellington. My all time favorites are Reshmi Kebab in starter and Chicken Saag in mains. Excellent service staff with good knowledge of food.
Aimee Francois
I ordered a rogan josh and aloo paratha bread to takeaway- both were delicious! Generous serving of lamb that was tender and the sauce was very tasty. Service was great and will definitely visit again

Curry Workz is one of the best Indian Restaurants I've been to. The food is exquisite and the service is excellent. I am always so pleased with my decision to go there and I have not been disappointed yet. It is definitely my go-to dinner place.
Brett Childs
This restaurant was recommended by an Indian colleague. He suggested I ask for my food "Indian style". An excellent suggestion. Our server was confident, conversive, and knowledgable. The food was amazing, and some of the best Indian food we have had. I recommend the Upper Hutt Curry Workz to anyone who wants sublime cuisine.

The food &amp; service is authentic &amp; welcoming. The flavours are exceptional and I've always been pleased with the dishes I've chosen.<br/><br/>The staff have always been pleasant &amp; always check that we're happy with the food.<br/><br/>I like my curry medium/hot &amp; they always deliver. The "Indian hot" is very, very hot!<br/><br/>We will keep coming back - it's a genuinely great place to dine.

Didn't enjoy at all. Butter chicken tasted like a can of tomato sauce had been poured over chicken, naan was nice.<br/>Wouldn't go there again! Wouldn't recommend anyone to go there either!<br/>There were hardly any chicken pieces in my main, which wasn't satisfying at all,
Monica
We went in mid week - was a quiet night out dining.<br/>Food was much better than expected and service was excellent and very attentive. Even when it started getting busier. Nice relaxing atmosphere.<br/>Only thing I could fault were the poppadoms - not quite what I expected
Corinne
We're from Scotland and visiting Upper Hutt for a week on our travels. We found Curry Workz a great place to eat. The food was excellent and the service fabulous. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

The Only place that's Never let us down. We love Curry Workz! Eating In, taking away, and now they Deliver (can you imagine our joy when we found that out?). <br/>I mean if I really want to stretch I'll say once.... 3 years ago there was too much coriander in one of my Butter Chickens. But seriously, that's the worst I can say. The service is friendly, but more importantly it's genuine, and in no way obsequious. They remember who we are, even if it's been months between visits. When I challenged them to make one dish as hot as it could go for my tough as nails partner, oh boy did they deliver! Honestly, my partner and I try to be easy going and forgiving in society when things go wrong, but Curry workz have always delivered the best food and service and never given us anything to forgive. They're Brilliant!

I love Curry Workz. It has a loyal following of regulars and I often recommend it. My favourite naan is the garlic naan, and there are so many delicious curries to choose from. I always look forward to going back.
Robyn
Great food but also great service. We're vegan/vegetarian and the owners are only too pleased to oblige/discuss etc. All reasonably priced as well. It's our favourite Indian restaurant.

Went there for lunch today. It was good and very reasonable price. THe service was excellent way better than Little India in Upper hutt.
UpperHuttDiner
Me and my partner eat here often and it never fails to please. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and accomodating. Lunch meals are a great size and price. My only criticism would be that the pappadoms are priced a little high.

This was the best Indian food we have ever tasted in NZ. Food was very authentic, no-nonsense and very original. We feel it tasted better than some of the 5-star hotels even in India. Good spice mix, vegetables cooked to the right levels, sumptuous portions, and courteous service. All other Indian restaurants here sell sub-standard food compared to this. Curry work simply stands out, and by the way good news for vegans - the Naan here does not have egg in it, and they do not mix non-vegetarian with vege curries. Even the Lassi was so authentic Punjabi.. We wish to return to this restaurant often..

This is The greatest Curry house I have ever been to. The food is very authentic tasting, the staff are friendly and the service is fast whether you are eating at the restaurant or having takeaway and the staff are always friendly. I eat here at least once a month and i have not once been disappointed.
Shane
Well...wasn't this the great have!<br/>Ordered online on the website and got the banquet...pay $26.50 and save $60 it says...<br/>Picked up the order, and it's pay $53 and get $26.50 worth of food!<br/>Butter chicken had a fruit chutney taste, rogan josh was more like a grogan josh.<br/>Will never go there again!

We would NOT go to Curry Works again. If I could have had my way, we would not have visited that place in the first place as I knew what would happen. We had to call for the waiter to order the drinks as the staff did not observe that the men emptied their glasses. We had to wait over an hour before our main meal was served. We were told that the tandoori had cooled down which was the reason for the delay (but the take away orders went on time). Asking why the take away customers received their order before we did, we were told because they ordered a main meal (but so did we). Then we were told that the tandoori broke. Two of us were waiting for our naan bread while our friends had theirs. We were told that we couldn't have the naan as the tandoori broke down. I was offered a roti which I don't like and my friend did not get hers at all. Then another waiter came to bring one naan. When we told him that we were told that the tandoori was broken and we couldn't get our naan because of it, he said he didn't know anything about that and the tandoori just cooled down.<br/>The meal was nice and MY naan was fabulous (the best I ever tasted in fact).<br/>The staff apologized and offered us 10% discount and a free desert. We had to decline the desert as it was simply too late. When it came to pay for our meal we got one bill which then had to be broken down as we wanted separate bills. Although the waitress used a calculator, we had to argue about the bill as she didn't get it right, over charging one bill.<br/>To summon it all up - the meal was good but the service leaves a lot to be desired. This was not my first bad experience in this restaurant but it was the last as we won't go there again.

We echo the comments below...will continue to go back time and time again

Curry Workz has always been one of the best Indian Restaurants in the greater Wellington area. It recently changed ownership we, my wife and I, were are little apprehensive as to if it would retain the high standard of authentic Indian cooking. We visited it last night and can honestly say that it has not only retained the quality food and service but it has done what we thought the impossible and surpassed it. The Lamb Vindaloo, Lamb Korma and Naan Bread would have to be second to none. Also the entree of onion bhaji and the shola kahab were also up to expectations. Servings are generous with ample lamb in both dishes. Service could not be faulted, friendly and efficient. Upper Hutt has some 8 Indian restaurants and there three that are very good and would surpass most if not all of greater Wellington Indian restaurants. But Curry Workz has headed them all off and for those lovers of authentic Indian food a trip to Curry Workz is a strongly recommended.
