Review The Mayfair Cafe - Upper Hutt

Jusus Almighty
Awesome rustic style and the old theatre seats, corrugated iron and lights were a cool touch (I like shiny things). Staff were great and left the right amount of time for us to view the menu before coming to take our order. Food was great! I had the hash stack and loved it. Bacon was cooked to crispy perfection. Toilets were nice and clean and there is also an area outside if you smoke. Will definitely be back.

Group of 8 for lunch. I had booked the table by the fire and staff were accommodating friendly and helpful. Great seared salmon, sauce was devine. All my group enjoyed their meals, I would highly recommend.

Great breakfast at Mayfair. Friendly smiling service and great coffee. We are return customers and definitely will come back

Highly recommend the eggs benedict. Partner had the big breakfast. Coffee is great. I love that they've kept a few things from the old movie theater.

Don't be fooled by the size of the door to the establishment. Once you walk through the door, it takes you down a short corridor and suddenly the cafe reveals itself in its entirety. Great space with upstairs and outdoors dining. Friendly staff. Very good portions and great value for money. And Keto friendly items as well. Would easily return again. Highly recommended!

The atmosphere at the Boiler Room was relaxing as usual. It is such an interesting atmosphere. The Vegetarian breakfast was delicious, with a delicious gluten free option. The Big Breakfast was filling and delicious. The coffee was delicious. I love the coffee from the Boiler Room.

The owner is a young man reviving a business he bought in June this year. We ordered the seafood platter, Cheesy garlic bread as our entrees and Gourmet Beef Burger and Buffalo Chicken Burger for the mains. Absolutely ticks all the boxes for me and the wife! We’ll be back for sure!

Love this cafe. It has a real retro vibe. I love the message on the mirror which can almost be a nod to 2022. The team were super friendly. Really glad that we stopped in here to have a coffee and some breakfast on our way through to the wairarapa.

This is my second visit to this cafe this week. Delicious food and coffee. Amazing homemade hollandaise sauce....had to stop myself from licking my plate 😋😋😋

Mayfair Cafe is located in an old movie theatre and the decor is movie-themed to match. Good food including a brunch and lunch menu, counter food and homemade pizza. The coffee is ok and our service was friendly. Nice surroundings to enjoy a long lunch.

Had my birthday brunch here earlier in the year (just going through my camera roll and found these now) and hands down the nicest eggs bene ive tasted so far. All the family loved their food and we've all been back a couple times since. Lil tip: check out grabone or groupon before going if theres 2 or more of you going, they usually have good discounts on there for here 😁

A little older than old school however it's still a good place for a coffee and eggs in Upper Hutt.

Mayfair Cafe is always a must when we venture over to New Zealand and our old stomping ground. It is a faithful place you hope will always be able to find and enjoy the atmosphere and experience 😍

The Mayfair Cafe is very cool. The food and service are very good. If you can I strongly recommend eating upstairs. Definitely a unique cafe. I highly recommend dining here.

What an amazing find. Quirky cafe, nice atmosphere. The food and coffee excellent. Mayfair Hash stack with chefs own hollandaise sauce amazing !!

We really enjoyed our Father's Day lunch today, the staff, service and food was excellent. Would definitely recommend dining here

Delish food friendly staff great atmosphere

Breakfast was really good and coffee was nice. My only little negative feedback was too much hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict

It was ho hummm.....staff not friendly, no smiles. A place with a superb play area for children, surprisingly had no breakfast menu for children. I made up one that consisted of scrambled eggs, cheese kransky & a salad.... I know, 3yo was not thrilled & a waste of money. It’s like the man behind the counter didn’t hear or see my daughter & the chef went with what he had. The staff just had no oooomph, I see them advertised on lots of sites, I’d be back if I heard the service had improved. <br/>I was really disappointed.... the menu on here is really old, prices are different and not all items are on that menu.

Was disappointed today with the service. Drinks and food orders were taken- 30minutes to receive a can of coke and a ginger beer, over an hour to get one serving of waffles and an eggs Benedict. This would have been understandable if they were busy or if we had a warning, but when we asked how much longer our food would be we were told it’s coming now (waited another 15 minutes) when we received our food we got Luke warm waffles and hard eggs. Little bit disappointed that we were not offered a discount or anything. Lucky we had a grab one voucher. This is one of our favourite cafes too

went for dinner last night and were very disappointed not only with the food but also the service, with only 1 waiter working  at the time of our arrival, with at least,10 other dinners seated and waiting ,we were told that our entree would be 20 minutes.<br/>Then when the mains finally arrived, the Pork Belly was dry and chewy and very small, also the Teriyaki Chicken was  dry and the rice was hard and under cooked.<br/>Then when it came to the desert, they had run out of everthing.so the only choice left was ice cream sundays, when they arrived ,only had 2 very small scoops of ice cream, one jaffer on top,no cream or any other type of topping that generally comes with a sunday presentation was poor.<br/>From the time we arrived, to the time we finished our meal it was just under 2 hours for the 3 course, not good enough.<br/>Definitely will not be giong back

This place takes ridiculously bad to a new low. It was a Tuesday so rang ahead to make sure they were open and booked 5 people for 6pm. Phone number wasn't asked and didn't offer it up as it's a pretty casual small town. Turn up and get told they have music on and don't do food on Tuesday nights.

I’ve been here for breakfast and brunch years ago and it was always good. Unfortunately I went here with a friend last week for dinner and it wasn’t good. <br/><br/>The staff were very polite and friendly, nothing wrong with the service at all but the food was disappointing. <br/><br/>I tried prawns, calamari and had the lamb shank main. The lamb shank was so tough it was hard to eat and the mash it came on was lump with bits of unmashed potato in it. The entrees were ok but didn’t taste fresh. <br/><br/>Overall service was lovely but food not good :(. <br/><br/>

Mayfair cafe thought to be Upper Hutt’s finest,<br/>Today that’s not the case the shabby chic shacked up cafe has not only left a bitter taste in my mouth but has also got me experiencing PTSD, as I look back upon this terrible breakfast experience, from the furniture looking like stage props from a local primary school and the seating set up like a year 7 dance I was already disappointed. This continues throughout my breakfast experience with the poached eggs being over cooked the bacon being burnt and the toast looking like they had just got it from the local countdown, on the other hand I thought the sausages were wonderful until I got to my third chew by then it started to taste like the old groggy furniture surrronding me. If this doesn’t dissuade you to avoid Mayfair this was only the start, on top of the food tasting worse than I can cook there was a suggested 40 minute wait that then turned into an hour to even get our curly fries (tasted great, price wasn’t) and to top it all off the overpriced undersized milkshakes had minimal flavour and one even without the syrup flavouring just milk and ice cream couldn’t make that at home could ya? 3/10 wouldn’t recommend pay the extra gas and go to the city a wasted night in town would be worth more than the brekky. ( also no mints)<br/><br/>will update when I’ve tried the lunch.

Went there for breakfast today, was very disappointed! We had the big breakfast and the hash stack. The bacon was so over cooked and incredibly salty that it was inedible, and there was no butter for the toast. We were also charge $8 for a very small pot of tea, which supposedly for 2 people. When we complained about it, he said sorry but made no attempt to amend the situation or provide a discount. Won't be going back!

Nice cafe in the centre of Upper Hutt set in an old movie theatre. <br/><br/>Always always always get the Hast Stack here for brunch, it is absolutely delicious and great for those who love an eggs benny and also hash browns, simple and delicious and eggs always cooked properly too (no half cooked eggs here!)<br/><br/>Great coffee as well as friendly staff.
Kerryn Yeats
Lovely food and coffee every time I go! Different areas to sit in too. Love the staff they have, very accommodating. Would highly recommend to anyone

I've been here twice now and loved both times 😍 staff are very friendly and catering to exactly what we want and the atmosphere is great to I love the decore from top to bottom and the food is absolutely wonderful at reasonable prices defiantly a special occasion brunch or lunch great work guys 💜💜
Cheeseburger
Got the classic brekkie - I like how there is a "small option" which was more than enough for me. The scrambled eggs were just lumps but the portion of mushrooms was generous. There was not enough butter for the toast however I didn't think of asking for more at the time, which I probably should have done. Overall was okay.
Christian
An interesting cafe in a old movie theatre. Colourful and spacious. Food was with reasonable price however the fish I had was a bit fishy. Not a bad choice to grab a coffee.
Heather Logan
For starters.. I enjoyed my mango smoothy so much. Exactly what I wanted. Great curly fries. <br/><br/>The place has more potential, could have movies going on the wall instead of just being a theme. But, enjoyed the food. Good service!
Thomas Basil Perry
Eaten here twice. First time I had completely tasteless fried rice, second time had a quesadilla drizzled with Thai sweet chilli sauce. Still trying to get the taste out of my mouth of this very strange combination.<br/>

Would not recommend this cafe at all went there for Mother's Day brunch booked in with plenty of time for them to organise extra staff there was a 45min wait , but to wait for a terrible brunch is not acceptable, bacon was burnt , meal was all cold , pancakes were so dry and like rubber totally revolting which is a Shame as this cafe used to be lovely before it was taken over .... will not be coming back and will let others know how revolting it was and like we said wouldn't even given the food to our dog ...... 😬
Vicki N Don Spackman
We chose The Mayfair for what was supposed to be a lovely brunch with the family for Mother's Day. Well I certainly would not recommend it to anyone. To start with we were told it would be an unacceptable 45 minute delay ( we had booked in a week ago) which should not happen, they had plenty of time to organise staff. The breakfasts, well they were terrible. All of the food was cold, bacon burnt, tomato dried up, presentation disgusting, pancakes dry, fish bites for a small child uneatable<br/>!!!! All round bad experience, not recommended!!!!!!!!<br/>

We frequent the mayfair as i have a son so the added bonus of a play area is fantastic (wish other places had this!) The only grumble i have would be the lack of things on the new menu the old cesear salad was fantastic so its a shame to see it removed and in place is a pre workout and workout menu. The big breakie is great value for money (you only need the small as its decent size) just a few more options would be good.
Tony Wood
Oh dear, first time back with the new owners. The lambs fry was superb before, perfectly cooked, quality ingredients. Now it used cheap Bacon bits, the red wine sauce was some salty stuff i guess out of a packet, the liver was like sawdust. Atmosphere had gone too. Sorry guys you are losing the trade this place once had I fear.<br/>Tony
Rachael Ayling
Come here often as I like the private atmosphere and quick service - they do perfect eggs, pasta is always good and their nachos are great, happy to keep coming back.
Sean
Sitting at Mayfair as I write this review.<br/>The menu is a touch on the expensive side in general, but the food is of low quality.<br/>Me and my partner ordered the hash stack, which looked sad. 2 Store bought hash browns with 3 rashers of bacon, egg (free farmed@?), some salad leaves, and the most generic hollandaise sauce on planet earth.<br/>Only plus about this place is that they allows dogs in the outside area. They also have water for the dogs but it looks like it hasn't been changed in months due to much algae and leaf build up, so in the end we used a human glass and gave her water from that.<br/>Place is definitely becoming more and more run down, with little care of the premises being apparent in the sheer a number of uncleaned bird poop left on the outdoor furniture. Have some modicum of professionalism people and clean up the place! It's not hard.<br/>Service was good however.

Came here today with a friend for breakfast/brunch. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and I really liked the big space and decorations and whatnot. I ordered the small blueberry pancakes, and whilst I really enjoyed them, I was left disappointed as it was just the one pancake - I think it was slightly overpriced, therefore, because of the small portion size. However, I would come again to try some of their other food!

Always have a delicious meal here. The staff are a bit average with their overall friendliness and the ice chocolates could be improved but as I said the food is great! The atmosphere seems kind of dull and dark good for a rainy day not so much when it's sunny. The food is quite over priced but your getting a great meal out of it
David Rangi
Great stuff had a lovely hash stack here recommend to everyone, great ice chocolate all it needs is bigger meal proportions for the price but other than that fantastic
Frances Thompson
We had dinner here on Saturday and found the service & food to be excellent. I had the pasta special which was divine, rich & creamy with lots of flavour.  Our 6 year old son ordered meatballs & pasta and loved it.  I tasted it and it was delicious.  My husband had lamb shank (plus an extra shank) which was also very tasty, although he felt there was too much sauce.  We will definitely be back and are happy that the new owners have improved one of our local cafes so much!
Joe Taylor
Food was really yummy I had a large all day breakfast, Service was very prompt and professional, its an old picture theater done up which gives it some unique characteristic. Complamenty water and condomints to complament your meal which is really nice. Would be great to have some free Wi-Fi , other wise a perfect place to have a coffee or a meal.
Seán Martin
Hidden gem on main street, looks small from the outside but really opens up into a big funky space, excellent coffee & outsdtanding poached eggs with hollandaise sauce!

Love this cafe. The staff are friendly, professional and very helpful. The food is fantastic and it has become our favourite cafe in Upper Hutt.
Annie Huntley
The music here is Good if you're into old school music. Their yellow curry special gets 2 thumbs up from me 👍🏻👍🏻 not so spicy but there's an option for that if you want it to be

I was very disappointed by the meal i received from this establishment. I ordered the hash stack, said to be the locals favorite according to the menu. What i received was bacon that was half raw, an under cooked fried egg and soggy, oil filled hash-browns stacked on top of limp iceberg lettuce, including large chunks of the hard white bit. This was topped with a practically no-existent and tasteless hollandiase and the added bonus of a short, curly hair - that was certainly not ordered. <br/><br/>Overall the meal was inedible and i was left puzzling over how badly cooked packet hashbrowns, one egg and some cheap bacon could justify the $16.50 price tag. I highly suggest if your considering going here, don't waste your money, save yourself the future stomach ache and go somewhere that knows how to cook.

I discovered this place in 2002. The atmosphere & food were fantastic, the staff friendly & attentive. So I became a weekly regular for a few months until I moved out of Upper Hutt. I went back with a friend a year or so ago & was disappointed. We stood at the counter for a good 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged. There were 3 or 4 assorted teens doing who knows what behind the counter, but only one seeing to customers, and he was really just dealing with coffee orders. There were a few patrons seated at tables reading newspapers & having coffees - possibly people who worked near, as it was 8:45am on a weekday morning. Strangely, we went in thinking we could have breakfast. We were sadly mistaken. When we finally got served we asked for menus. The response was that the kitchen didn't open until 9am. At the time I thought of several responses, but before I could answer my friend said "Right, thanks" and headed out - so I followed. The correct response, little boy, should have been "Of course, here you are. The kitchen opens at nine but please feel free to take a seat and peruse the menus till then. Would you like something to drink?". But I guess the response we got is typical when you put a 17-year old boy with no life experience or any clue of customer service behind the counter. I am very weary about setting foot in the place again. <br/><br/>Went back March 2014 - a vast improvement in service (no acne-faced teen behind the counter this time). I had the eggs Montreal with toast & jam, and a pot of English Breakfast tea. The pot of tea was tiny - I got two cups out of it which came way before my meal, so I didn't get to have a cuppa with my toast. The toast was 4 huge pieces of bread accompanied by two pre-pack butters (needed 3) & a small but substantial pot of jam. The eggs Montreal really did not need lettuce - fresh baby spinach would have been better. I ended up discarding most of the lettuce. My partner had the porridge with rhubarb - it was a large bowl but lacked salt & the rhubarb was quite bitter. It screamed out for brown sugar, banana & a few shots of drambouie! He also had the eggs benny - again with lettuce. It doesn't work with lettuce guys - it smacks of cheap! He also said the moccacino was fairly bland. We will go back, but only if we can't be bothered driving all the way to Miramar to go to Chocolate Frog. <br/><br/>My husband's point of view: <br/><br/>"My first time here, though the missus used to live here 12-odd years ago claiming it was exceptionally good back then, however she stopped returning the day she turned up at 8:45am and was told she couldn't have a menu because the kitchen didn't open until 9am. This place used to be a cinema and there is a lot of paraphenalia around that reflects this; a museum to days of old. It is a very cool environment to be in. We were warmly greeted, and throughout we received very good service from staff who seemed to care about what they were doing. My partner had her obligatory English Breakfast Tea which she was very happy with, and my coffee was to an acceptable standard. We ordered the porridge with rhubarb and an Eggs Bennie with bacon and an Eggs Florentine. Both were good, though the use of standard (read cheap) eggs is noticeable when having recently had free-range. The hollandaise sauce seemed to be home-made and was quite exceptional. If it's a bought one, then I need to know where from! The only moment that raised eyebrows was the copious amount of lettuce hiding under the muffins. Lettuce? On an Eggs Bennie? New one on me, and I've had a few. Was this a cynical attempt to make the breakfast appear more substantial on the plate than it otherwise would have? Either way, it didn't work. However, they were generous with the bacon so all was quickly forgiven. Aside from that, no issues and next time we're in Upper Hutt around feeding time we'll be back. <br/><br/>ps: and they use a real sugar dispenser! Hallelujah. Not a bowl of sugar sachets to be seen anywhere. I've just upped my Presentation rating from 7 to 9 because of this." <br/><br/>June 2015 - see photos! A perfectly acceptable plan B when Cafe Romeo is closed, Yum!

the food was a bit disappointing, my plate looked good but tasted  bland, enjoyed the smoothie and coffee was good ......not in a hurry to return

I love this place! You go in and it feels like you've escaped and are no longer in Upper Hutt. I go here very often and although slightly pricey, its my favorite place for lunch and a coffee.
Harvey Watts
My wife and I visited Mayfair last night and the first thing we noticed was how cold the cafe was. In the past there had been a nice open fire burning to make the place cosy, but not last night, so we kept our coats on throughout the meal.<br/><br/>We had lamb shanks and fried pork belly. In both cases the meat we nicely cooked, and the presentation of the food was nice, but flavour-wise the meal was a let-down. Both meat dishes were served on a vegetable mash which was a bit overpowering; a better balance of vegetables would have made these more appealing. Because of the cold room temperature, we ate our meal as quickly as possible and departed.
Brooke Wood
I have nothing but good feedback about Mayfair. This has become my go to place. great food, great atmosphere and the most amazing customer service. If you ever go there ask for Roshni. One of the best waitresses i have ever had. So efficient and her customer service is incredible! 10/10. Thanks to the customer service and excellent food this has become my regular Friday night restaurant. Everyone go and check it out!

I've recently visited Mayfair Cafe and I was quite disappointed, I have had many great experiences here before but I would say standards have most certainly dropped and prices increased I was shocked to find out a toasted sandwich very simple, cost a ridiculous $9.50 all over our meals were very average coffee not the best and I do not think I will be returning here with my family again.
Jess Dougherty
I'm not sure what's happened to Mayfair over the past year or so, but it really has gone downhill. the coffee is still fantastic, but the food is extremely average.<br/><br/>I ordered the eggs benedict with bacon, side of hashbrowns. Now the hashbrown ($2.50) was just one, and was from a packet. Normally in a cafe you expect the hashbrowns to be made onsite and not just your average Wattie's one toasted. By the time my food arrived it was cold, the bacon burnt and one of the eggs had burst. Another person in my group also ordered the same and their eggs weren't runny but cooked through. <br/>Another member of my group ordered the hash stack, which sounded great on the menu but again the hashbrowns being store bought and toasted let it down.<br/>The "half" big breakfast was small, the sausages were random cheese kransky (we think), burnt and dry and the bigger breakfast had just one extra sausage and a bit more bacon. Still a small portion of eggs (maybe a palmful if you were lucky).<br/>The service was OK, we were served by four different people who were friendly but it would've been nice to have one wait person who knew our orders. And for some reason some of us were given dinner menus instead of the brunch menu.<br/>I guess basing it on all of my previous experiences there, it really has changed and not for the better. Although the coffee is still excellent, I wouldn't choose to eat there again.<br/><br/>Very good though that they were basically the ONLY cafe in Upper Hutt open on New Years Day.
Garry O'Keeffe
Our family used to come here about every 3 months but never again. The standard has really plummeted!<br/>For Brunch, my wife ordered a Caesar Salad which is not a demanding dish for a chef or cook to prepare, but what sort of cook would include a lettuce stalk with it?<br/>The Lambs Fry &amp; Bacon was positively the worst example of this dish I have had the misfortune to taste - drowned in a thick catering BEEF!? gravy on a mountain of Packet mashed potatoes, there were two miserable slices of lamb's liver with a few slivers of bacon so small I thought they were onions. The flavour of the Lamb's Fry was impossible to discern - how any decent cook could come up with a dish like this is beyond me - a total insult.<br/>I informed one of the staff of my disappointment but by his reaction, obviously couldn't give a toss.<br/>Never again!!
Johann Go
A mediocre cafe lunch experience, with no significant highlights.<br/><br/>The cabinet food took an excess of 10 minutes to come out, which is rather long considering the cafe was not busy at all. The food was also heated unevenly with some parts cold and some parts warm.<br/><br/>The food itself was not too bad; tasty with acceptable portion sizes. <br/><br/>Despite this, I do not think that I will be returning to the establishment. There simply aren't enough positive reasons to draw me back.
Pete
As a regular visitor to Upper Hutt and Wellington from Melbourne my sister recommended Mayfair Cafe as a good place to take Mum in her wheelchair for lunch.<br/>This was my third visit this year and, the best one yet.<br/>I have raved to friends back home about the Hash Stack, which again was great, not greasy or overlooked, looking good with a good amount of sauce it accompanied my large Feijoa Juice perfectly.<br/>The service was way quicker this time but the staff were as friendly and helpful as on previous visits. Maybe a bit on the pricey side but, well worth the visit for sure. Good coffee, great ambience and something for every one makes this a define place to eat when here, thanks
Sandi
We used to come here often, but we believe their standards have dropped. Visited recently on a Sunday for brunch. Big breakfast was not as nice as they used to be. Sausages had all burst and looked dry (I wouldn't serve that to customers). French toast was nice - 3 large bits of bread but only two measly pieces of bacon. Although they weren't that busy when we arrived, it wasn't clear whether we should order at the counter or table. Went to the counter and was told a waiter would come to the table!

This is one of the most unique places we've been to as the old Mayfair theatre has been transformed into a unique café setting with plenty of character. The staff here are flexible and can modify your drink or meal order to suit any dietary requests which is always something we appreciate. Recently we came to dinner on Pasta night and loved the vegetarian pasta so much that we came back on Saturday night to sample the regular menu. The lambshanks must be a popular dish as there were many people enjoying it! The service we experienced there was top notch, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal soaking in the atmosphere in a cozy table beside a warm crackling fireplace on a cold winter’s evening. This place is also perfect to come and enjoy a tall delicious glass of iced coffee on a warm summer‘s day.
Erin Reale-Key
Please remove the "country ham and vegetable" soup from the special board!<br/><br/>Looked like slop, thick with stringy grey bacon hock meat and gristle. contained so much barley that it had absorbed most of the liquid. was all mixed up with hard chunks of carrot and celery. I think I tasted a bit of pepper but that was the extent of the flavour.<br/><br/>Waitress took away several plates from the table, but left the soup bowl. We mentioned that we would not be finishing it. bowl was left, no questions asked. <br/><br/>Cake on offer was average, tasted freeze-dried from the cabinet. <br/><br/>Upper Hutt is in danger of scaring away all cafe-goers from the region. All that's needed is a bit more quality-control!
Jan
Went into the cafe today, and wow was I impressed!<br/>Such lovely atmosphere and beautiful decorations. With such friendly and happy staff, makes for an amazing dining experience.<br/>Ordered the hashstack (my new fav) was absolutely delicious!!<br/>Partner had the frenchtoast which I sneaked a taste, yummy!<br/><br/>I highly recommend the Mayfair Cafe, enough to say best cafe in Upper Hutt by far!!
Woolfiedesu
The atmosphere is quite interesting, but the food is awful. We waited 45 minutes on a weekday for lunch, and the cafe was not busy.<br/><br/>Pasta of the day was overcooked, and the sauce was out of a can I'm sure, as it had that preservative taste you can detect if you never eat prepared or packaged food.<br/><br/>The hash brown stack was soggy, and the mushrooms were revolting. They were burnt and tasted bad!<br/><br/>I can't recall ever having had such an incompetently cooked meal.
Sarah Whiteman
My husband and I enjoyed Mayfair Cafe so much we have been every week for the last 6 weeks!<br/>The staff are friendly, professional and willing to go above and beyond, special mention to Talia who has really looked after us everytime we visit.<br/>The food is superb, very consistent and we can't fault it. We have been to many restaurants over the past 12 months but Mayfair is now by far our favourite.
Andrew Feely
I originally gave the Mayfair a 5, as it was our favourite regular brunch place a couple of years back. Since then it's been a bit hit and miss. We still go every couple of months, but have had a couple of pretty average meals more recently.<br/>
Chelle Robinson
Went to Mayfair for brunch with my partner, ordered, got a terrible coffee and beer, waited 25 minutes for our meals and decided to leave..Went to pay for our drinks and were asked why we weren't paying for our meals? We advised they never arrived to which they responded that they were ready now...we didn't want them so paid for our drinks and left....bad service, bad coffee.
Pip Graham
Mayfair is possibly the nicest cafe in terms of interiors in the Hutt Valley, however the service is terrible and the food and coffee is hit and miss.
Joy Roxas
I've always loved the atmosphere of Mayfair and The BoileRoom. I Had my birthday dinner party here with a set-menu organized with their staff, the food was amazing with great portions. The staff was very kind and responsive to any requests needed for setting up the place as well as just communicating with my guests. The important thing for me was that my friends were happy with the food and the setting and they definitely enjoyed the whole night. I love the unique twists on certain meals in the menu, making them a little bit more exciting to try. <br/><br/>Definitely a hidden gem in Upper Hutt city that everyone needs to check out asap!
Maurice
Went unknowingly on a new menu night, with a few minor improvements could be excellent. Keep away from doors on cool evenings
Shayna
Always a great place to eat. The coffee is great and my favorite dish which is eggs Benny is always delicious. The staff are friendly and the cafe has a great feel to it, really cool decor and a lovely fireplace.
Tony
Great food support by an incredible range of wonderful &amp; new beers makes this a local favourite.<br/><br/>The chef seems to go out of his way to deliver an experience the diner will appreciate.<br/><br/>The decorating is interesting with its local history &amp; there are often special tasting sessions that are worth getting along to.

Rob and team - thanks so much for the past year of spectacular dinners! My husband, myself and our friends have enjoyed a number of spectacular meals this year, and we have loved creating special menus for our get togethers, and the food has always been amazing! We will definitely back in the new year for a night out!

Has this place changed hands or cooks? I went there with my daughter yesterday as was hanging out for their usually fab caesar salad. Daughter ordered hash stack which is her fav - disappointed much!! 1 soggy hashbrown does not a stack make! My caesar tasted and looked like someone had tipped the last of a packet of brought croutons and crumbs all over it. It was served in completely the wrong type of plate, it was a horrible mushy mess. At $18 I expected better!! My girls and I choose to go there for catchups and gatherings.....! Eating out is a treat and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect consistency. Yes we told 2 staff when asked how our meals were. Whether they do anything about it we'll never know.....<br/><br/>22 Jan 2012<br/>Just want to provide update. Thank you Rob for your offer. Glad to hear you're still there. I accept that my last dining experience was a glitch and that you're still one of the best cafe's in Upper Hutt. Thank you again for your response.
Rachael
Went to the little restrant out the back of Mayfair which I didn't even know was there (boil room or something like that) very small and cute, perfect for a date as it's dark and lit by candle light, had the steak and have to amit it was one of the best I've ever had, shared a very yummy cheese cake with my friend as it was large enough and both had a coke, bill came to $40 each which is great for a steak that tastes like gold. Place could be a bit warmer though.

My family and I often go to Mayfair to have brunch and dinner. We also use the facility to celebrate special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. I am very happy with the place and food. Great ambiance and very good service. They are always making sure if you are okay and treat you with respect as well as feeling special. Thanks Mayfair. Keep it up!
