Review Thai House Express - Upper Hutt

Fantastic eating experience, everything was tasty and cooked to perfection. Staff were super nice and efficient. Large servings for the price. Interior is modern and clean.

Pad thia and roti was really good, unfortunately the alot of my noodles were stuck to the take out container, over all great food and definitely will be going back to try more.

Compared to other Thai restaurants in the Wellington region this one is good value, tasty and has great service. Mains are between $12 and $17 and entree $6 to $12... Note since the above review the restaurant has changed ownership and the main meals and entree's have gone up 20%. A meal for two adults with an entree main and coke each is about $60.

Aroy Thai Eatery in Main St Upper Hutt provide generous servings of basic, but tasty, traditional thai street food. The staff were welcoming and the prices reasonable. Atmosphere was different to a tradtional thai restaurant, but that reflects the nature of the food and did not detract from the experience. Definitely would go back.

Roti and veggie springrolls were amazing. I had duck and partner had chicken friend rice. The sauces were great. The peanut sauce was best I had. I'm happy we went in and didn't care about reviews.

Loved my duck noodle soup My Laughter Club friends had a farewell dinner for a departing member. We also recorded 1 minutes laughter to mark World Laughter Day after other customers had left. The owner was very patient and kind, as we left pretty late and he had to wait to clean the dining area. Kudos to this kind man!

Fabulous staff who didn't hesitate to ask if we wanted to share as we only ordered one main and one side. Very kind and as always great food

Good ambience. Good service, fast and warm. Nice table and seating. I found food to be mildly sweetish... Otherwise one of the best Thai restaurant in the town. Try phad Thai and yellow fried noodles, awesome.

First time eating here. Fairly limited menu but nice staff, good food and prices about I would expect to pay for mains.
Karen Mackey
Good prices can't fault them. Great choices of entrees and mains. We eat here when we want something quick and easy and food is always tasty. Size is always generous and also presented beautifully. Only deal with staff at counter and when food arrives so have never had problems there either. Its a great little place for eating in or takeaway and quick place to go for meal before movies. Not a fancy place but it is clean.

Fod is what you would expect from any Thai restaurant . 2 people $95.00. Situated in the middle of Cuba mall, very lovely and warm restaurant. Staff excellent.

I was way overcharged.

I ordered the sweet and sour fish and got charged 18$ for a little amount of food. When she said it I was a bit confused but I just thought maybe the price had changed and I’m not the type to argue. I later then checked the menu and it said $16.50 which is still very dear. Normally for this dish elsewhere I would pay $12-15.
Definitely won’t go back and will also let everyone I know know not to go, because you’re gonna get ripped off!

Tax dodgers..... please see the article in Stuff. Another reason not to support this business. It would appear that this has been happening for some time, please see the following quote from the article.

Many of the businesses traded under some variation of the name Thai House Express. Despite the growth of the businesses losses were consistently declared over the years the charges covered.

The article is called:

Thai restaurateurs' $4.4m tax dodge alleged in hiding cash sales

The food is delicious. Unfortunately my experience with the stuff is they are rather rude and unfriendly. One time I rang to make an order and they said they were not open for another 20 mins and I asked why their hours on the website had not been updated to new hours and she hung up on me me mid sentence! I wish they would at least force out a smile and be less abrupt / work on customer service because the food I really like it's a pity about customer service and puts a negative taint on the whole experience . This is the first negative review I've ever written I'm not overly fussy but this I felt needs to be said and I hope they read this and take it constructively because I'm sure they wouldn't want to offend their customers and may be unaware how they can come across. Only gets 2 stars because great food but service is just as important !

A poor imitation of a far superior establishment, Aroy Thai of Wellington. I only say that because their items and delivery are very similar. Not much flavour in anything I have ever tried here though. Nice to be able to get a bowl of Thai soup in a hurry, if you have a cold though. Lots of food service items repurposed, I prefer a bit more authenticity to my Thai food.

Nothing polite or friendly to say about this place,
Absolutely disgusting service and average overpriced food I’ve never been treated so poorly at a restaurant- 100% do not recommend

Worse customer service i have almost ever experienced. Will never spend money at this place ever again!!! Grumpy lady behind the counter treated us like we were scum or something!
Food was very nice but prices have gone up and have not been updated on here so was surprised when I went to pick up my food and it was more expensive than I thought. Other than that I was happy

Ordered satay chicken, as well as the satay kebabs. Food was okay, not amazing, but worth the low price. The service was friendly and prompt. Would go back for another lunch.

Great Pad Thai, very generous portions. Very large selection on the menu. Will definitely be back again to try more of the menu! A very good lunch option!

Food is cheap and yum, comes out at the speed of light. Lots of variety. It's well decorated and pretty quiet, so it's a great place to chill and have a meal.

Good average Thai take aways,I would rate them a 4 but their spice levels are really inconsistent. I normally get medium anywhere. But sometimes their medium is very very hot

Called in and ordered deep fried chicken with vegetables. I was offered rice and declined. Wow the meal was good, chicken was not greasy and the variety if vegetables was impressive. I counted around 15 different types. Well done Thai House Express.

Have been a few times food is always out pretty fast and usually quite enjoyable...staff are friendly they offer free water and its fairly clean and tidy

Hit and miss. Some stuff here is nice while others are just downright disgusting. Everything is microwaved since it's about being express. This is oaky for some meals, but it makes other meals taste disgusting.

My workmates and I pop in to Thai House Express frequently and the service is always wonderful. There's a great range so we can always find something for newcomers (even those scared of spice) and the food is always beautifully prepared and presented. Good sized portions - it's common for us not to be able to finish it all! Perfect if we're short of time too - food is always fast and fresh. Bathrooms and serving area alike are always spotless and clean, with options of comfy puffy booths or tables if preferred. Definitely one of our favourite locals.

Love this place they are super efficient and delicious and great pricing.
Not often you can find a place with all three normally only two :)

Ordered a medium spicy fried noodles and beef noodle soup. I understand all places are different and yes I can handle a medium spice. But I couldn't handle this spice. I couldn't even finish my meal let alone start. The chilli flakes were huge and super spicy I couldn't even taste what I was eating. Meat was completely rubberie. Service was excellent but highly doubt I'll be back

We went to thai house express for our anniversary lunch, an found the service was friendly, the serving if the food was fast. Our meal was awesomely beautiful an delicious, we use to travel to wanganui to have a meal like this! Definitely recommended.

Don't ever write reviews, in fact this is my first one. My wife and I just had dinner at this restaurant and we were both incredibly dissatisfied with our meals. Service was good and prompt, and the prices were cheap as far as I'm concerned for a Thai restaurant but that's where the positives end. Actually there's only one negative, the food.
I had the duck learn with rice and my wife had the roast duck with rice. Both meals were large but while hers was edible but not enjoyable mine was disgusting and inedible. We left feeling ripped off. Especially since when we do eat out we normally eat Thai food as we have never not enjoyed a Thai meal. I guess there's a first time for everything.

I got takeaway from here tonight and ordered the spicy noodles with prawns. Prawns cooked perfectly as were the veges. Service was great, friendly and efficient. We were ten minutes late, so shows they know how to treat the food. I will return 😊
Got takeaways from here for dinner tonight and the flavors were super good, as was the service. However, the chicken in my curry was quite rubbery as was the meat in the other meals ordered by those I was eating with. I ended up only eating the vegetables.

Service - excellent
Food - excellent
Value for money - well you can pay twice as much for a plate of bland tasteless muck over the road in the traditional thai restaurant or you can have excellent here at half the price
Recommend - definitely as regular here for good Thai food

We had takeaways from Thai express Upper Hutt this evening, and the food was fantastic! This is the best Thai food we have had in years, I will certainly be dining here again :)

I think this is an Aroy off shoot? Not 100% sure. We stopped here for lunch after a trip over the hill to the Wairarapa. We are not ones for expensive cafe food and prefer a lunch that is enough for a dinner, this place ticked all the boxes.
Miss11 had her chicken satay and enjoyed it, Mr had the chilli paste chicken and ordered it hot) and I had the chicken laab. We also had curry puffs and roti.
The portions were huge and a main meal. I gave a portion of mine to Mr. He enjoyed his main but declared it not hot enough, there was chilli on the counter so he could have ramped it up. My laab was huge and lovely. It had the lettuce underneath and some veg on the side. It had a good kick to it.
All of the food was lovely. We left feeling glad we didn't go to an expensive cafe but stuck with our gut instinct. We will be back when going for walks around the area, far better to eat here than take a picnic.
