Review Zara's Turkish Cafe - Upper Hutt

Olivia Townshend
Ordered a kebab meal and it was the best kebab I have ever had. So filling, lots of meat and the chips were so crunchy. 100% would recommend!

..Always welcoming here! A smiling face and careful attention to your order. My wife and I have been coming to Zara's for years and it is always good food, clean premises and friendly attention. What more could you want? Rodney and Vikki King.

We ordered food..( mine was beef/ chicken salad..)the serving was so big..and it's really delicious.Even their kids meal serving is big too.. It's a bit far on where we live and it's small place but its worth it to go back.

Best kebabs in all of Wellington and great service. The chicken Lovers Pizza is exceptional. I also had Tiramisu which was amazing as well. My favourite place to eat out!

Great spot in the upper Hutt for delicious food served by friendly staff. Excellent for carry out or work lunch outings. Our kids love the food here as well.

Healthy and yummy European turkish fast food, good service and reasonably priced. The pizza selection is well worth considering

Along with usual doner kebabs and Iskenders, Zara's sell pizzas, desserts, coffee and tea, vegetarian options, and open faced burgers served with oven baked Turkish bread - these I can't wait to try. Update: the open-faced burger was served on a standard burger bun, not Turkish bread as advertised. The patties are thin and don't look like anything special. Very disappointing 👎 still for $18, the meal (see photo) is still a good deal. Unlike other Turkish kebab cafĂ©s in Wellington, Zara's large doner kebab is actually a large and worth the $13 price. Everything else on the menu is $20 or less. Very busy night, but customer service was never rude. So far the only Turkish Kebab Takeaway in Wellington I want to return to.

Good and delicious kebabs. My wife and I have tried chicken donor kebab, enjoyed it very well. The sauces are really good. First time I enjoyed a kebab in wellington. Would recommend it. If you are looking for dine-in, reserving a table would be a good idea as the place is quiet busy. The staff was very friendly. Definitely I will visit again to try different items in the menu.

Best Adana kebab and mixed grill I have ever had in the whole Wellington region❀ I really recommend the chicken yavo as well very tasty and can not be found anywhere else. Would 100% recommend this restaurant

$42 for 2 meat on chips and a baklava. Prices have gone up and just aren’t worth it. So disappointed they only had chicken, no lamb or beef. The chips were sad and soggy. Only upside was that everything was hot and at least the baklava was yum đŸ€·đŸŒâ€â™€ïž

Really good sized Iskender meal for the price and the chips were crispy. The chicken, however, was dry. Despite that I'll be back.
The Mad Diner
Not the best kebab shop I have been to, but not the worst either. It will do in a pinch, if you want a kebab in the Upper Hutt. Typical offerings, nothing newsworthy though. Lots of vinegar in their sauces which really put me off.

Great value. So fast! We had kebabs and they were big, fresh and delicious. The hot chilli sauce hits the spot without being bitter. We will definitely be stopping here again on our way through

Service is very good quick and friendly. Food is even better and good value. The iskender meals are great value huge portions so make sure your hungry. Hot chilli sauce hits the spot

If your in the mood for Turkish this is the spot! All the classics from falafel through iskanders. Meat and chicken is good and they even have a venison option. Its a family run restaurant that serves the community well.

Amazing food. Succulent chicken. Hot chilli sauce has good heat. Dips all delicious and tasted really fresh!!!!! We had a mixed donar, a chicken mezze, mushroom donar and a kids meal of chicken on chips.

Disappointed... arrived last night to order a meat lover's Turkish pizza only to be told that pizzas are not available due to no staff.. there were at least 3 staff working so i imagine nobody was trained in making the pizza. pizzas are on your menu so should really be offering them during your trading hours. I'm a loyal customer who comes in nearly every week but last night I was left disappointed.

Went there for my mom's birthday and loved the food. The seats are a bit uncomfortable and the setting is could use a lot of improvements BUT The food is AMAZING. Had the mixed grill kebab meal 😍. The portions are generous good for sharing with friends. Definitely recommend buying different dishes and sharing them so everyone tastes everything. It has become my favourite take out place in Upper Hutt.

Amazing Turkish. You must try the chips! The pizzas are amazing, the kebabs are amazing. Really nothing you can fault about the guys. Ownership seems to change hands often but I can't really comment on that and haven't noticed much of a change it quality.

Delicious kebabs, always made to a high standard. The chips are amazing, definitely grab some to share between 2 as the seasoning on them are uber addictive.
Top kebab shop.

For a top quality take away this place hits the spot both kebabs and iskanders are great.

Chips are awesome with some special salt on the chips that really lift the taste.

Lots on the menu so many more options than a Normal kebab shop.

I came here yesterday with my boyfriend for lunch. I ordered the garlic prawn pizza and he got a beef combo. His food came out in 5 minutes, and tasted delicious. The pizza, however, took a while and by the time it had came, I was already full from eating his chips. The pizza tasted undercooked and there was way too much cheese on it. There was only about 2 pieces of prawn each slice and I ended up only eating about 3 pieces of the pizza. I did feel guilty leaving an almost full pizza, and I feel like I had wasted $15. I will return but for a Kebab.

They don't skimp on servings, sauce or seasoning! Slightly pricey but worth it for the amazing and tasty food, very clean and plenty of seating. Huge variety of things on the menu and the only Turkish restaurant in Upper Hutt, great and friendly customer service, highly recommend.

Very clean, nice service and the kebabs are one of the best Iv had. The kebabs are full to the brim and very tasty. The fries are very large but with the paprika seasoning and the oil they use for the fries are great!

Very nice and clean inside. They have a monopoly on Turkish food in Upper Hutt at the moment though, so prices are a little steep. I have found that the food here is consistent, which is good. Once you've had it, you can expect to have it exactly the same again.

Nice place, nice staff and really nice Turkish food. Downside is the price as that is a little on the high side. I would recommend this place though as it is friendly and good quality fresh food is served.

Very great place, we don't have any other Turkish competitions in the Upper Hutt area. Based on Main Street which is very central.

I went today to grab myself and my Partner a meal pick up as we were a little hung over.

I ordered the chicken iskender meal and got my partner the mixed meal. Both came to 38 dollars and we both cannot finish the meal as they completely fill the plastic container up.

Food was delicious and just what we needed.

I recently went to Zara's for the first time and I got the chicken salad - it came with chicken, lettuce, tabbouleh, carrot, onion, red cabbage, a dollop of puree'd beetroot, yoghurt dressing, and hummus. The food itself was OK.The only thing is it was very over-priced for what you get, ($14.50 for a chicken and beef salad, $15.00 for a lamb salad), particularly when compared to other items on the menu, and especially when you think about what $14.50 can get you elsewhere, or what you can get elsewhere for much cheaper...I think the salads are worth about $8-9. Although the salad was OK, I won't be going back and paying these prices.

ordered the mixed dip plate for $12 and was presented with five pieces of thinly sliced bread & four dips that appeared tohave been poured out of a tin. had to ask for extra bread, which they didn't charge for as it was from the 'burnt bits of bread' container
$11 for a large chicken kebab which had lettuce, carrot & a little chicken
all in all disapointed & won't be going back again

Very nice food, but after they got a phone order wrong, we took to going in to make an order. I think 4 out of 5 times, they STILL got it wrong. I went without this evening!

Zaras is a fantastic place to eat! Great prices, fantastic food, but more so, the wonderful customer service that we get every time we go there. I would recommend to all to try them.. they never let us down =0) thanks for the great food
Dani
First time I tried since the old owners, well I didn't even know there were new owners actually. I had a chicken kebab with cheese, garlic yoghurt and hummus, it was the best tasting one ive had. The rest of the menu looks great too next time looking forward to trying the chicken pizza.

Really pleasantly surprised. Very clean restaurant/takeaway with reasonably priced meals considering everything is fresh and tasty. I feel confident recommending to friends and family as the meals have been consistent.

Delicious vegetarian kebab options and a variety of food in general. The servers tend to be quite good at listening to dietary requirements but depends on the day/server. I'd recommend watching just in case!

We are regulars now that we discovered the beautiful home made pizzas - with a great turkish taste. The base is made on on site and the toppings are amazing - I would recommend the chicken pizza - forget Pizza Hutt and Dominoes - these pizzas are fresh, health and filling and only cost $13!
The mixed kebabs are so moist and tender - highly recommend.
The new owners under the name of ZARA are professional, friendly and very quick
Highly recommend

I had not been back to Arzum Kebabs since the new owners took over recently so I thought I would give it a go with my daughters on the way home from Swimming last night. The service was great and the people friendly with the revamp of the shop inside looking great but the Kebabs were not very nice and I don't think I would go back. I ordered 2 regular chicken kebabs, with lettuce, carrot & cheese for my girls. When they got home to eat them they remarked that the kebabs had skin & hard bits in so I checked and we got approx 10 pieces of chicken skin & rubbish in each kebab and they were very oily with the paper bags and foil covered in the oil. I am sorry to say that the new owners are doing the same as the old owners and not using good quality chicken and including skin and other bits which made for a yukky kebab and we threw them out. Very disappointing

I love this place - especially the Iskanders, which are amazing. I especially love the fact that no two Iskanders are the same. My partner and I order the same think but he gets different salads than I do - love it.

Tonight we got a wood fired venison Turkish Pizza - amazing, no more Hell Pizza for me. There guys rock and I would def. recommend. The pizza was hot, crisp and fresh, cheesey, meatie, tomatoie, herbie...we got takeaway and it took no longer than 10 minutes to be ready.

Very friendly staff who remember you when you come back.
Lisa Pompey
I love kebabs and these are as good as I've had anywhere else!
Rob Van Proemeren
Well if you like kebabs this is the place to go! My wife and me have been quite regular customers, starting off with the previous owners when the place was called Arzum's. Good value, friendly staff, and best of all it's a no-nonsense fast way to enjoy a good meal out. Zara's is popular with the locals, if the steady flow of customers is anything to go by.
We both enjoy a good kebab, and for years that's all we had. In recent months we've been trying their pizzas, and whilst it may be a Turkish café, the pizza is just yum!
No doubt we'll get around to trying the rest of the menu in due course.
