Review Kuku Restaurant - Upper Hutt

My friend had an issue with her burger but very quickly the staff attended to her and solved it. My 2yo niece approved of the kids pizza and the cheesy garlic bread. I got the Keto Salad and it was good , was just missing a kick - added some hot sauce and it was yum. The dumplings are juicy and really yum flavour. Only thing I would say - they have a beautiful selection of sharing type foods but platters are limited - either $28 for Snack or $70 for Main. Would be nice to have platter sizes and prices and a selection of what can be chosen for that price to be able to enjoy more of what is to offer. Overall we enjoyed our experience, huge portion sizes and the lovely staff. Will visit again for sure.

A great spot for our group of 20+ in a semi-outdoor/covered area. Some of the food was great (pizzas) but the chicken burger bun was very stale and chicken overcooked. Also don't recommend the fried chicken as it's just tiny off cuts of pieces of chicken the size of a 50c coin. A great spot for groups though and awesome selection of drinks.

Awesome service, the most incredible soft tacos I’ve had in my entire life I had the chicken ones Definitely worth the money Got filled up on a whole heap of starters instead of a big meal Delicious cocktail 🍸 Went for dinner after seeing menu online while looking for bubble tea , which is also amazing from this place 10/10 recommend

Ordered through doordash. Pretty good food. We loved the dumplings and pork belly bites. A bit heavy handed with the cheese though! Both on the loaded fries and pizza. Couldn't see or taste the peperoni but it was there somewhere.

2021-11. They have lost their authentic South African taste. I usually have Ribs with a traditional basting. They have change it to a sweet taste. Not nice and does not suit the food anymore. Every thing has changed, even the salad does not taste the same. - 1 star. 2021-10. Had a great rib and chips. Real authentic South African flavor. 4- star. 2021-05. Had a pizza this time round. I will leave it a 3 star but should have been demoted to 2 star. Crust was very very hard, too much pepper on the seafood one, there was also hardly anything on it. Did not enjoy it. I have been many a time here but bought burgers and other fast food / junk food without any regrets. 2023-01-28. This time round I went back to my original order of Ribs made to the original recipe of 2020 and was not disappointed. Thus the upgrade from 1 star to 4 stars. It was very good and they have redeemed themselves. Why not 5 stars- well the bench we were sitting on was damn uncomfortable. If you go try and use the chairs unless they have updated them. Still a good place for some food. We had great staff, very friendly and decent, which would have gone to 5 stars.

Awesome staff. Very friendly and patient. The food is always great, on the very rare occasion there is a bit of an issue but nothing major, I must emphasise that this is VERY rare. The atmosphere is awesome as well, love the portraits. My favourite one being the avengers portrait before the toilet. I highly recommend Fermented!

Table for 8 reserved. We had a private room to ourselves. Great service with friendly staff. The pork belly was a little bit tough but apart from that all good.

Excellent addition to the Kereru brand and to Brewtown! It’s been a long time coming and the Kereru team has made an exceptionally good effort in pairing food with their beers! Best of all their new monthly limited releases are on tap! The outdoor seating is masterful and creates a clean and cozy atmosphere that will no doubt beckon brave souls even on winter’s nights. Inside matches the subtle style and quirkiness of Kereru - good, clean taste! Head straight to the bar for a peek at the craft beers on tap. A broader range of Kereru’s classics are available by the bottle so you can taste their wide range from scotch ales and goses to moonless imperial stouts! Don’t let the simple menu deceive you! This kitchen has a different point of view on food and shows it. The South African influences are obvious and awesome. Meat is cooked with more skill that your average medium rare making for a memorable mouthful to accompany your beer! The prices are all very affordable ranging from $16-$22 for mains! Lastly the staff are lovely and professional. Quick on their feet and genuine in their interactions, they’re kind to the line diner, and tolerant of boring customers’ dull stories. Go here if you are a beer aficionado and expect it to become a regular date. The meals make for good adventures to take on alongside the monthly new releases!

Had our son's 21st birthday here. Room was just right to hold 50 people. Gavin and staff were very helpful throughout the event. Food was great with the platters and pizzas. Thank you all so much.

The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating to our requests. The cheese on the pizza wasn't the best and the Pork belly was a bit dry. But the rest of the food went down a treat. I also recommend the bubble tea

All our meals were nice and nicely presented. Staff were friendly, but there were a couple of confusing situations; one was before we arrived when my partner phoned ahead to confirm we could bring our dog (we could, which was great!) but, the staff member couldn't find my booking (which I'd confirmed) so took my partners details. When we arrived my name was clearly written on the table reservation sign. The second confusing experience was when our order was being taken, the staff member seemed unsure if meals that were noted as GF on the menu were GF; one of our party is celiac so it has to be GF. Also, the venue itself didn't seem to have a clear theme, e.g. two headless Chinese warriors at the entrance (one with a head inside), the artwork inside was a mix of cartoon and pop-art style and then as we left we noticed in the outside area there were dolls in bird cages (a spooky vibe), but also outside there were black and white retro (from the 50's or 60's) photos on panels... so, several different styles.

We had dinner here while checking out Brewtown for the first time one Friday. They had lots of food and drink options to choose from, including plenty for those with dietary restrictions e.g. vegetarian. Heaps of beer options to choose from being Brewtown also. We were super disappointed that the whole of Brewtown closes at 9pm but did enjoy our time at Fermented. Recommend calling in for a beer and a bite to eat, particularly the jalapeno poppers or chilli chips, both a win.
