Review Litte India - Upper Hutt

Sreeram Nattath
Best south indian food i have had in Wellington with Kerala and Tamil Nadu food. The parottas are freshly made daily and they are yummy with the Non Veg Platter and Mutton Chettinad Curry. The people were so kind and they prepared food even in their break time. They served food quickly even after an unexpected big group cane in to order a lot. Madras and chettinad curries are a must try with kerala parota. The non veg platter was medium spicy and they also have a kids menu.

We haven't been to this restaurant for years since it was Little India but thought we'd give Curry Leaf a try after our usual changed hands and the food there is not very nice. So glad we did! The food is delicious and the service top notch. Have since been back a couple of times and it was just as good. I hope others give this place a go as we would highly recommend it!

Most amazing Mattar Paneer I've had I'm a very long time, and the staff were lovely. Will definitely be back!
Tracy Price
Mix platter, butter chicken, bhuna chicken, aloo gohbi, chicken kahdi, mango chutney and various naan/roti. All beautifully flavourfull. Good selection of wine. Strongly recommend and look forward to going back. Plenty of vegetarian options if you're that way inclined too.

Hi all curryleaf was the first time I dined in i had a great experience great service from Arun heaps of smiles and the food was even superb I enjoyed it so much would highly recommend it to all pleas visite this place if your out looking for a beautiful place to go for lunch or dinner so welcoming and also the most comfortable chairs I've ever sat in

We went to Curryleaf for the first time today and was very impressed by the food and the courteous service and smiles. All Indian restaurants in Wellington serve the exact same menu, but Curryleaf offers some real authentic and delicious curries. Arun, the manager recommended Paneer Mushroom Pepper curry and it was absolutely tasty. If you like the flavour of pepper with perfectly balanced Indian spices, this is your curry. Another unique curry we don't get in Wellington is Navratan Korma. It was delicately flavoured, done with a lot of expertise, care and love. Loved the food, loved the service. Will certainly go back. Thank you Curryleaf team for the lovely dinner.

There are big flavours to be enjoyed at Little India. Great selection of meat and more importantly vegetarian dishes. I had the palak paneer (a personal favorite) soft freshly made breads with a good selection to choose from. All the usual sides and add ons. A great place to enjoy man's favorite dish - curry - highly recommend

Consistently amazing food and I always want to come back to try another meal on the menu. Brilliant flavours and wonderful recipes on offer.
Neat Eats
Have been here twice now and would go again. First time I had the palak paneer which was fine, but not amazing enough to order a second time. Went for the Amritsari Chole and malai kofta - so good, especially the Amritsari Chole which I really enjoyed. We ordered the coconut rice instead of plain and I think that is definitely the way to go. Would order both of those dishes again. Service wise, I think they are keen to please and things seem to run smoothly. Food was out quickly and nothing forgotten.

Great value, great staff, consistently great, will definitely be back! One of the best curries in Upper Hutt! Highly recommend the Biryani but the curries are also very good!

I an my Husband dined here on a Thursday night the atmosphere was great quiet friendly clean. We found it very relaxing an calm. The food here was excellent great chicken korma could of been a bit Spicer but I did order a mild korma. My husband had a hot prawn Vindaloo an said it was the best prawn vindaloo he has had. The Nann bread was beautiful an our starter was Tandoori prawns which was also very beautiful. Over all I an my Husband enjoyed our experience here very much an would eat here again any time thank you for such a lovely experience

Absolutely loved the Chicken Jalfreze until our recent decision to become vegetarian and so we are now working our way through the vegetarian options with great help and advise from the super friendly, polite staff who know us by name and always take the time to ask about our day.

This used to be our favorite indian place to eat sadly not any more today my husband and i went to little india upper hutt for a lunch meal I ordered my usual chicken kadia my husband ordered lamb madras and we ordered 1 onion bhaji for a entree Our plates for our mains arrived first so i had to explain to the lady who was serving us we ordered onion bhajis first then minutes later they arrived. then arrived 1kadia lamb not ordered 1 rice and 2 nan breads I called the lady over and explained again what we ordered and she said the other curry was coming i said i did not order kadia lamb it was chicken i ordered she just walked away. My husbands lamb madras arrived 10 minutes later with hot rice by then both nan breads were cold and hard uneatable I did not eat my lamb just the gravy as i do not like lamb curry, no apologies were given. But when i went to pay he said he would charge me for only one curry and the bhajis. I said okay as i dident eat my curry. he charged me $21 dollars. over charged me as the lamb curry $11 and bhajis $6 50 total $17 50 would we eat there again NO

Probably the best naan I've had. The chicken kadai was also really good. Nice setting, open kitchen was really cool and staff were very friendly.

Some great Indian food! Good and cheap lunch specials and they sponsor the Upper Hutt Rams Rugby! They make all the Indian classics and if you tell them to make it hot they will!
Paul Black
The best Indian restaurant in Upper Hutt. Friendly service and consistently great food. Our family eat here most weeks and particularly recommend the Sagwala and Jalfrezi.
Judy Shore
Beautiful meal as always. Lovely atmosphere, warm and welcoming. Friendly staff.
Definitely recommend to my friends and take my visitors there when they visit.

I honestly love this place! Little India in Upper Hutt is the best! I go here so often that they know me by name, and my mums name too. They also know my order of by heart lol. Being vegan there are a lot of places I can't go to, but I know I can always rely on little India to make me a lovely curry! Awesome staff, food, atmosphere, everything! This is my go to restaurant every time. Thank you so much :) :)
Lyn Mowles
We have been here twice and each time we have received excellent service. There is an extensive menu with staff willing to provide advice on food matching and heat. Our latest meal consisted of samosa, lamb dhansak with jeera rice and malai kofta with plain rice. The servings were ample for two people. We will definitely go again.

Best service and friendly staff! Vishal is a great laugh always! Defiantly best chicken tikka in Wellington! Always a great atmosphere! K & P

Great lunch service at a great price Our first choice for a midweek lunch. Been there a number of time and it seems to get better each time we go
Isaac Malthouse
Nice food, nice ambience, nice service (not to toot my/our own horn), and of course a nice and accommodating place to work. I recommend Little India to anyone who wants a nice place to have a tasty meal that doesn't break the bank in a comfortable environment.

Loooooove this Place! This little india do the best curry in town and the service is always great too! Try the malai kofta, it's fantastic!!!

Freya Oliver
Not only do I love their delicious, well presented, and large selection of food, I also really enjoy the atmosphere and the manager who comes over to chat and makes the experience more personal and fun. Plus their mango lassie cocktail is amazing! I've already recommended Little India Upper Hutt to my family, hopefully they spread the word. See you there :)
Simon McCash
Without a doubt the best Indian food you can get in the Wellington Region. Not to mention fantastic waitstaff, great service and an all round great atmosphere to the place. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and family. Thanks again Little India Upper Hutt.
Glamer 34 Vlietstra
Excellent service. The manager Vishal is really welcoming, engaging and knowledgeable. Food is always fantastic. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner!
Mike Thompson
We eat here often and after eating at many Indian restaurants over the years (nationally and internationally), I rate this as the best I've tried. Everything is fresh, flavoursome and the service is always excellent. Try this place, you won't be disappointed.
Sam Limmage-Werner
Always the best food and service! :-) I enjoy coming here a lot. The food is exquisite and the vegetarian options are also well worth a try!
Trish Carson
Just got back from what was THE BEST Indian food I've ever eaten, starting for the Platter for 2 ,the Samosa were light and full of flavour as were the other 3 morsels on the plate. Mains we had the Mango Chicken and Chicken Korma ,usually we'd have expected to feel uncomfortably full after Kingfisher beer and what we'd eaten but the portion size was perfect and we couldn't stop nodding our heads at each other and saying how good the food was ,fresh, beautiful flavours and we are now converts to our new Upper Hutt Favourite restaurant. The thing is we usually don't eat India BUT NOW.... woohoo can't wait to take the parents along to enjoy it with us.
Rachael Ayling
Great service very nice friendly staff, the tikka masala is always perfect, i place my order, give my little one some lunch and then my meal is served so pop bubs into the play pen and enjoy my meal, couldn't ask for better.
Mark Duncan
Value for money, you don't get any better than the little special at lunch. The mango lassi always tops of an incredible meal. And to make it all even better, the staff. Extremely friendly fast and great at their job.
Alan
We had to wait for about an hour between starters and mains. During that time no one asked if we would like any drinks. Once our meals finally arrived one of the hot curries was barely mild.
Once we complained they did at least take 15% off the bill, which is why this isn't a one star review.
Rick Stapa
The best Indian food in Upper Hutt! Four of us went this New Year's eve and everyone was very impressed with the quality and flavour of the starters and main courses. Very friendly and good service. Thank you.
Mayah Johnson

Love Little India Upper Hutt! The food is always great, excellent vegetarian options ( best dal makhani anywhere ) and friendly staff. Plus they have loyalty rewards which is fantastic for those with a curry addiction!
WOW, the food at Little India is superb!!! I find the lunch special is excellent value. Whenever myself and friends go there for lunch we are warmly greeted, recognized by the manager Vishal who always is happy to see us. He remembers my friend Steve always has the chicken Tikka Masala " hot " and i can never decide because every dish i have had is great. I get Vishal or the lady that serves us to recommend something and i have never been disappointed.
Great service, great value, great atmosphere and great food.
If you love prompt & tasty Indian then Little India is hard to beat!!!!
Aaron

Very good food. The other reviews who say the food is not consistent are out right wrong, I've eaten here 100 plus times and the food is always delicious. The manager is very friendly and talkative. Some of what wait staff are not particularly good at interaction but I suspect it could be a language barrier as they are friendly.
Little India at the Upper Hutt Mall is a fantastic place to go for an easy dinner, we love it. The food is beautiful and always freshly prepared to taste. The staff are always very helpful and friendly and can't do enough to make you feel welcome and special! Perfect ambience , great food at very reasonable prices. Top restaurant - you must go there:)

Fantastic food and awesome staff. What more can you ask for? They know us on sight now and the effort your chef has made to get the right kind of 'hot' spice for our fussy Director has been phenomenal. Thanks guys, will see you again real soon. - The BBITS Team

Literally the best restaurant in Upper Hutt, unbelievably fast service considering you restaurant experience. Topped off by their awesome staff, not one of them has ever made the meal less than perfect. 5/5

We are fortunate that this is our local Indian Restaurant because I believe it to be not only the best Indian restaurant in Upper Hutt, but also best we have tried in the wider Wellington area. Very flavoursome food and friendly service. I should qualify and say that we only eat vegetarian food so I can't comment on the whole menu, but for vegetarian food I recommend it highly. With so many great choices ordering is always a challenge, but I find the Aloo Gobi particularly excellent, with subtle flavours and perfect consistency. Great beer selection too.

Absolutely in love with this place . Perfect ambience , perfect food , perfect place for perfect company . I was lucky to go at this place on weekdays ( on weekends its full ) . Not so pricey , generous quantity . Loved the kebabs and perfectly cooked koftas ! Better than restaurants in India !
Dave Lemonby
Very good service. The lunch specials are amazing value. Have only ever got takeaways from here but have never been disappointed. Very clean and tidy inside.

Easily the best Chicken Tikka Masala out of all the Indian Restaurants I've ordered from. I also highly recommend the Butter Chicken and Lamb Pasanda.

Reasonable good food. No complaint about the food quality.
But the manager (owner) always shows an unfriendly face.
Let us to feel like someone owes him heaps of $. I thought he only did it to us for some reason in the beginning.
Then we just realised later that he almost never smiles to any customer?? Never say sorry when taking plate away or does not even say thank you when we paid our bill.

I don't' get it. Who would never smile at all in service industry. All people try to spend money on his business when walking into the door. :( I don't go there now unless my wife really wants to.

Little India is a spectacular place to dine in for either Lunch or dinner. The service is always top notch and by far the best Indian cuisine in the Upper Hutt region. I strongly recommend trying it out!
Lynne
I have been a regular diner at Little India for some time now. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal there. The staff are amazing from the manager to the waiters to the chefs. They are always super friendly.
I thoroughly recommend Little India for a lunch time dining experience.

I'm mad about Little India's food! I will actually get a craving if I haven't had it for over a wk (I know, right)! Nothing beats the entrees at Little India, this is 1 area where I think they're really miles above other Indian places - they taste crisp, fresh & yummy (I recommend their paneer aloo tikki)! I visit this locale if I'm shopping at the Mall & come in to grab some lunch - I love how you can sit at the outside tables when it's warm outside! I think the restaurant's design is neat, it feels a bit 'different'. I also have to give a shout out to the staff at this Little India - they are fun & entertaining! I've had a real laugh with girlfriends there for a couple of birthday parties - the Manager turned the music up & customers (+ staff) joined in on some Bollywood inspired dancing (not that we were any good)! I have a few friends that live in the area & they said it has become popular with the 'local crowd' - usually a good sign in my book! ;)

great view and nice location. after dine in you can go for shopping in mall. best part about restaurant is photos which are very nice. real taste of indian food you can get in little india only. taste is same whether you are dinning in lower hutt, upper hutt, wellington and porirua. staffs are friendly.
Rasha Taylor
The food here is top class, service is great, flavors are fantastic, I love having lunch there, the setting is great and they are very accommodating on busy days. All in all it's a fantastic place to dine
Scott Puddick
My wife and I are frequent visitors to the Little India restaurants around Wellington and love the service & fantastic traditional Indian cooking. The lunch menu is great value and beats any takeaway fast food outlet in town, the flavours and fresh cooking are second to none. The staff are very friendly and getting the right heat to our meals brings us go back every time, I would recommend Little India to any food lovers who want great food & great service.
Steve Brattle
My family and I have had the pleasure of dining at 4 x of the Wellington/ Hutt Valley Little India restaurants over some years

Because we live in Upper Hutt the Upper Hutt Mall restaurant is the most frequented by us.

The food :I feel that the average New Zealand European has acquired the taste of Indian flavours and can identify different flavours from different regions.

Little India food is defiantly my first choice by far.

The décor : It shows that Little India spend a lot of time and effort to give their restaurants that world class presentation.

The Staff : we have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly

Community spirit : we have seen that little India supports community and charity events on a regular bases

Cost : I feel that you can have a good night at Little India for a very reasonable price

I would not hesitate to recommend Little India to my network of friends to choose Little India when looking for a dine out meal
Nish S.
Swift service; not once in 2 years has there been evidence of rudeness, poor hygiene and slow service, even in the busiest of hours. Staff have been consistently welcoming, even when customers are indecisive about what to order from their fantastic menu. Such a service equates to pride.

good food good service, not always consistant but very tasty. great for parties if visiting, reasonably priced
