Review Waikino Station Cafe - Waihi

We arrived to hear the final call for the last train to Waihi - very nostalgic. Enjoyed a very tasty bacon and egg pie recommended by Barry one of the friendly 'guards'. Our dogs were able to sit next to us on the platform while we ate lunch adding to our enjoyment.

Ordered a salad and enjoyed it on an outside table while listening to bird songs. Food was average, the young waitress was bubbly and lovely. The building of the station itself is just marvelous with lots of historical stories.

Lovely cafe, conveniently located inside the station. Awesome flat white! There is a warm room inside with tables and seats and outside seating as well. Plenty of options to eat, ice cream, fizzy drinks and other refreshments. There is a large car park just in the entrance and bike racks. If full, you can park just across the street. From here, you can walk up to the museum. Worth a visit to enjoy and relax a little.

Magic well done team. We even got "Old Farts" Gold card discount. And a great brunch. Another well done.

I have never been here before and I have to say it was a great experience. The main barista was extremely friendly and accommodating, even though he was run off his feet! We didn't eat but the food looked delicious! Our dog was welcome and water and pats were provided as part of the experience! We will be back!

Stopped for a coffee on our way back from Waihi. The barista was so friendly !! We talked about LFC and The Beatles. He even came to our table to top up my husband's coffee. Would certainly stop in again and can highly recommend this place. Thank you for making our day a pleasant one 👏🤩

Historic cafe that makes you feel like you've gone back in time. Good food, great coffee, and friendly service complete the package. Highly recommend for a stop, even if the train isn't running.

A nice place to go after a walk through the battery. The only suggestion I have is a nicer tea maybe. I love Twinings at home but when you're paying $5 a 10c teabag just isn't strong enough. Corn fritter was delish though

I went a little too late so cafe was closed, but the exterior is so unique! Definitely need to come back for the train ride and food!

Stumbled upon this unique cafe which also has a train station. The train does operate from this place. The price and schedule is up for display. The train ride is meant to be a fun ride especially for children. The inside sitting arrangement looks like a train compartment. The menu is quite comprehensive for a cafe and decently priced. We ordered a Kumara Slice and a Spinach and Feta Roll. Taste wise both were ok. But the experience of sitting on a train station platform and having this meal was quite an unique experience. Also there are few props kept on the platform just to get the experience of a train station. A 5-star worth cafe just for this unique experience !!

A nice spot for a quick bite during your hike or bike along the river. Reasonable opening hours too, it doesn't close to early.

Took a train ride from Waihi to Waikino Station and had a lovely brunch at the cafe. I had a ham panini with ham, cheese, pineapple and apricot chutney with a long black coffee. It was absolutely yummy! We also got a few baked goodies (peanut brownies and ginger slice) out of the case for the road and it was clearly homemade, very delicious! Adorable atmosphere and lovely staff 😊 strongly recommend

Been here while on a spontaneous get away from the city adventure weekend.
On our way back to Auckland we needed to fuel up our tummies.

Spotted this cute little place, which seems to be family run with sweet smiles and lovely ladies.
The meal portion was huge, for a reasonable price and the ambiance was GORGEOUS - all vintage and rustic with the most perfect touch of visual history and written pieces.
Was a very good brunch idea!

YUMMY!!
Visited several times over a couple of days. Yummy food, bit pricey but delicious...good service especially from Raewyn. Coffee disappointing though - only luke warm and pretty tasteless. Still, it was an interesting place to visit. We travelled here on the first train (10am) from Waihi, and had plenty of time to walk to discover this interesting Karangahake area before returning to catch the last train at 2.30pm back to Waihi.

Did the Hauraki rail trail and finished at the Waikino Station Cafe!

Wow - wonderful friendly team.
Great food.
Good setting.
Not badly priced!

We rocked up about quarter to 4, and your team was happy enough to make us coffees & serve us food with a smile, and didn't push us to leave when you started to close up. Thanks!

Check it out :) We will be back to do the ride again, and will finish at your cafe again.

Called in while travelling past by car.Went on vintage train down to Waihi and back then had a nice snack at he stations cafe which is decorated with interesting relics and photos of the stations historic past which was well connected with the old now defunct Victoria stamping battery. Very ambient!Good modern cafe selection on blackboard menu. Our party of four enjoyed our selections and the prices not too bad. This cafe is fully recommended especially for a Sunday outing where you can enjoy the vintage railway and good food.Have been there twice and will return.
