Review Prah Ta Pang Restaurant - Waikanae

Ngaire TeWhaiti
A small, tidy, popular restaurant, on the Main Rd in Waikanae, heading north. First time eating Cambodian cuisine and I can honestly say, it was very, very nice. Full of flavour with succulent meat pieces and fresh vegetables cooked to perfection. Can definately recommend this place. We will definately be returning, next time we're in town.

Very good food. Highly recommend. We had the fish cakes for entre; seafood curry, stir fried straw mushrooms, and spicy mussels. Yum! Definitely coming back for more.

Delicious food and reasonably priced with quick service. No credit card option now tho

The food is amazing. Atmosphere probably depends on what customers are in. Would highly recommend

Been here a number of times over the last 15 years, - the food and service is so good! It's a small but busy restaurant that looks after it's customers.

Excellent Cambodian food, recommended by our accomodation host. The stuffed chicken wings, beef salad and seafood curry were all beautifully prepared and tasted wonderful. The restaurant is simple but pleasant and our waiter was friendly, unobtrusive & there just when we needed him. A hidden gem of a restaurant.

I had my favourite D6, a medium hot curry with vegetables and three others in our party followed. We all thought it delicious and the cost of drinks was much more reasonable than other similar restaurants in the area. Thoroughly recommend. Later A group of us went to Pray Ta Pang again before the cinema and had as much fun as the last time. The food for all six of us was excellent, again, so I can say it is consistently good and we shall go there again.

Always amazing food and service :)

Dined on a week night. The service was good and meals all came out in timely manner. I couldn't fault the food. It was fresh, flavoursome, fragrant and the meals felt light and not greasy or heavy. My fellow diners seemed happy with their meals also. The ambience and decor are dated, but if you value amazing food, good service, incredible prices and supporting a family business...then you should check this out. I believe they do take-aways as well. Is licensed and also BYO with a small corkage fee.

Our kids have eaten here many times and rate it highly. This was our first visit and we were impressed with the quality and value. We will definitely be going again

Lovely seating arrangement, clean and tidy.. friendly staff. Food was nicely served and was in good quantity. Great for tasty takeaways. Appropriate charges on food.. I loved my dinner.

Food is great. Don't expect a second bottle of wine to share between the couple though. My wife and I got refused after two glasses each during the pre-order and entree. Had to make a case for a third glass each. Embarrassing and unnecessary. The manager does know the Liquor Licencing Act. I'd go back, but I'd check whether. or not they've changed this policy when booking.

Food is really nice, only issue is that its a family run business so you do wait a little, if you can live with that then worth the visit.

Awesome. Very plain immaculately clean restaurant but wow!! The food was awesome. I'm going back and more than happy to recommend this place. They do takeaways too.

We had a wonderful meal tonight. We shared a lovely starter of Roti with Peanut Sauce. I had the Beef Cha Sach Svay Chan Tee which was amazing. Jo had the Red Curry which was also nice. Lovely food and great service. Would definitely recommend.

Our favourite takeaway because its delicious wholesome food.Ā We keep a menu at home and always ring through. Its always hot and full of wonderful flavours. We try to work through the menu but my wife does keep coming back to Cambodian pancakes!. Very basic as a sit down venue. Much better to take it to the river, beach or home in our opinion.

Love this restaurant. Relaxed and without frills. Regular go to after the movies. Food is always yummy and hot. Service friendly and quick. If your after tasty food that is affordable and your outing is more about the company you keep, then give this place a go. Itā€™s a gem in the rough.

Sadly I canā€™t give this restaurant a positive review. My partner almost passed out from heat exhaustion no joke, I had to take him home half way through his dinner.

These guys also have two extremely loud, old air cons that pretty much make it hard to think let alone talk across the table. The waiter was nice. The food was piping hot and if Iā€™m honest the rotiā€™s peanut sauce was lovely, but we both felt our food was lacking passion. We felt like there was no mum in the back of the kitchen, quality checking for flavour.

A friend told us this restaurant was amazing and cheap but we paid about as much as another restaurant we went to in the same area that weekend, yet we bought drinks the night before as well. We didnā€™t feel like this was a ā€œget what you pay forā€ thing. The price was what we expected for the style of food on offer.

We left feeling frustrated that we had taken a chance on this place.

Great food however we always have to wait a long time for take aways, 20 minutes plus. I would suggest ringing to order in advance unless you have a lot of time on your hands! The food is cheap but yummy. I love the vege red curry.

So disappointed! Turned up at 7pm. Was not acknowledged for 25 mins. Drinks finally cameĀ 40 mins after being seated. But only one drink.Ā Had to ask for the 2nd drink which then arrived another 10 mins later. 1 and a 1/2 hours later still sitting there waiting for any form of food. Walked out!

Always fantastic. I have never had a dish I didn't enjoy. Stuffed chicken wings and the pancake are family favourites. Keep up the good work

Delicious. Regular takeaway spot. Meals are always fresh and light. The Bo Bun is marvelous. Never seems to be very busy. Staff could be a little friendlier

Fabulous food however we had to wait for such a long time for our mains and others who came in after us were served and leaving by the time ours arrived. Friendly service but could do better. Definatly will go back tho. Lovely fresh flavours

Recently got a take away meal here. Not knowing what the food was I popped in for some advice on choice of dishes & asked when I should ring to order as I had to pick my husband up from Paraparaumu airport. She advised me to pay then & ring them as we left the airport (10 mins away). We did this & the order was just brought out of the kitchen as I walked in.
The food was delicious and very fresh tasting. Will certainly eat their food again.

Great food as usual. Have just about worked my way thru the menu now. Friendly and efficient staff and excellent value.

Really nice people, we get takeaways from here sometimes. I like the Bo Bun (noodles, pork and veg with little pieces of spring roll in - yum!) Last time we tried the Cambodian pancakes, they were good. The prices are really reasonable and the portions good, with fresh ingredients.

Our first experience of eating at this restaurant was very enjoyable. The food is fresh, full of flavour and very reasonably priced. The woman who runs it was friendly and interesting to talk to.

Stuffed chicken wings.....Mmmmmmmmmmmm.
Egg drop soup! Wonderful.
This eatery is cheerful and relatively cheap. Food flavoursome and more-ish.

We are really lucky to have such a lovely restaurant in our little community. The meals are always consistent, very tasty. The favourite is the red beef curry. Don't go past this one, you wont be disappointed. Good price too.

Simple decor but really tasty food. Consistently high quality cooking, much better than most Wellington restaurants. Very reasonably priced.

We have been dining at the restaurant for several years and thoroughly enjoy the cuisine offered. This family restaurant goes the extra distance to make diners feel important and to provide a level of service second-to-none.
