Review Long Beach - Waikanae

Roberta Rea
Great place, delicious vegan options and friendly easy staff.
Megan Greig
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere was great - certainly helped by a sunny day and lounging under an umbrella outside in the warmth. Service was efficient, friendly, and fast. Food was delicious. Would recommend - booking would be a good idea as it was really busy.

Cosy and classy place close to the beach. Loved the vibe, the food and the team especially the lass with beautiful eyes that looked after me and my friends, from accommodating us earlier than the reservation to the drink choices. Also, the lad that has done the best Margarita for me. Thanks, guys and see you soon.

Great first time experience at Long Beach Tavern. The service, food & atmosphere were very good. Highly recommended to anyone undecided about going here.

The staff are so friendly and attentive! Out in the garden at night in winter under the heaters was lovely. The food was wonderful. Loved the vibe of this place

Best location in town. I really want your lemons from the tree. They're really big and look juice but I didn't pick them to be honest! I enjoyed my pizza, chips and flat white so much

Very enjoyable late lunch at Long Beach Tavern. It was around 2pm on a Monday yet was still relatively busy when we arrived - a sign that somewhere really is good! My boyfriend had the Piccante pizza, I had eggs on toast with herbed mushrooms and we shared some of the twice-cooked chips. All food was well presented and tasty, I’d happily return here when I am next out in Waikanae and would certainly recommend giving it a visit if you haven’t already!

Absolutely divine food. A couple of vegan options including a vegan dessert. The cocktails were the real stars of the show. Service was excellent, I highly recommend

Every time I go the food is always incredible. My personal fav is defo the Buffalo magarita it is incredible. The twice cooked fries are supreme. The iced chocolates are humongous and delicious. All of the pizzas are amazing. Good for dine in and takeout, but they sadly don't deliver yet. Sometimes, the service isn't quite on point, but to be fair, it's only usually a long wait when it's super busy.

Even though there was only two vegan Main options (that my partner and I shared), Both were amazing!! and I definetly could have eaten twice over. I forgot to take photos, but here's an already devoured pizza 🤗. (Actually we came back and ate it all again and I took photos). Thanks team!

Had iced coffee with all the works, very nice in a hot day. Sweet service. Thanks 👍🏻

Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Really loved the food, service and the atmosphere. Staff are friendly. We didn't wait long for our food. Great job team Long Beach

I'm reviewing Long Beach Café but Google directs me to Long Beach Tavern which is next door..... Big breakfast was ordered & it is a BIG brekky! Seems a bit weird to me that they are unable to swap out any of the foods like bacon or sausages, but you can always add extras in. You can have your eggs fried, poached or scrambled with the big brekky. Vegan pizza looked a bit skinny on ingredients to me but it was consumed gleefully. Fish & chips - generous portions of hot crunchy deliciousness served with a small salad. Lovely coffee. This place looked to be wheelchair accessible. The staff are brilliant - welcoming & responsive but be warned that they won't let you swap ingredients on their listed menu.

Hands down coolest place, great service and amazing food!

Nice pleasant corner cafe adjacent to the beach (but no direct view of the beach). Great food well prepared and presented. Good friendly helpful service. Eggs Benedict would be a great addition to the brunch menu but that said the eggs I had were excellent. Highly recommended we will be back

This cafe is so pretty and has wonderful service! The food arrives quickly and it’s very close to the beach, so you can always go for a walk along the beach after lunch or before dinner! It’s also close to a playground, so if you are looking after kids, or like me, you have the babysit them, take them there after! The kids I was looking after loved the playground. The food is absolutely delicious, but takes quite long to arrive, so don’t go there for lunch if you’re in a rush to go to places or have a meeting, because you’ll likely be late. Although it takes long, the food is so worth the wait. It has a beautiful atmosphere, it’s clean and perfect for going by yourself, on a date, or with your family, a stunning cafe with a beautiful setting, right next to one of Kapiti’s most iconic beauties - Kapiti Island.
Hope
Great experience here. Had to sit outside on a cold day because it was so busy - but it ended up being really enjoyable and not cold at all. There’s outdoor heating and blankets. Absolutely delicious food! The service was excellent and chilled.

Being from Auckland so I'm bound to be critical about an out of town cafe. Perhaps at least NEVER give anything full stars: Allow for even a Ritz quality experience, room for improvement. However after asking for an Americana from the hot little barista girl and getting exactly that, my generally facetious Aucklander ego was left hanging. I sat outside near the amazing bohemian style vege garden that they supply their kitchen with enjoying the excellent americana and ordered fish and chips. What came was what you expect, fish and chips plus a salad made from some of the plants growing right there. The fish was fresh, the chips hand cut and crisp and the batter not semi transparent. You know, fish & chips. It might have been the beach atmosphere or it could have been the cone I had in the car before, but I had found my place. A place with home crafted beer on tap, friendly staff , great coffee and a menu written in English. Next time I will try a more healthy one of the options they have on their menu or just order something with Brussel sprouts when their plants out the back are harvested.

Getting sucked into "wedding madness" is very easy when considering your special day. After booking in with a specialised wedding venue, my (now) wife and I decided that it wasn't really us and that we needed to stay true to ourselves. We wanted to get married in a chilled out, homey setting in Waikanae (where my wife grew up) without it costing the earth. With a intimate guest list of around 60, Long Beach was an obvious choice. With its location right next to the beach (great for photos btw) and a leisurely stroll away from local motels and rentable bachs, it seemed incredibly convenient for allowing attendees to really enjoy the evening without having to drive back home. Planning the proceedings with Kiri from our home in Melbourne (via email/phone) was very easy and a no-fuss matter, even considering the special dietary requirements needed for a handful of our guests. On the night, Kiri and her team delivered a fantastic, 10/10 experience. The restaurant looked both quaint and rustic with white table clothes, flowers on the tables and the fire roaring in the background. Even though we had brought our own speakers, the sound system was plenty loud enough for a "good boogie". Kiri and her staff looked after all the guests brilliantly with a top class menu, awesome food and alcohol/drinks. All of the guests commented on how great the food was, how friendly, attentive and helpful the staff were throughout the night, and just how much they enjoyed the evening. All-in-all, I'd highly recommend Long Beach to anyone looking to get back to basics of getting married - where the dining/dancing space, food, music and people are what make or break a wedding. I have nothing but the utmost appreciation for Kiri and her team for helping to give us the most memorable night for my wife, myself and all of ours guests for many years to come. Great job guys! You rock!!!!

Just had a lovely evening at Long Beach. Sat outside in the courtyard till the sun went down and the lights come on. Beautiful food - pizza was amazing! The Raspberry Drop cocktail was just delicious. The wait staff were super friendly and nothing was a problem. A super relaxed evening. Thanks Long Beach.

What an amazing place! Crisp fresh vegetables from Long Beach's bountiful garden and delicious fresh snapper, served quickly by our friendly waitress - you really have created something special down at Waikanae beach, Todd and team!

My family and I came in for brunch (group of 10) and ordered a variety of meals many coming with poached eggs.. the food looked amazing coming out, only issue is our eggs were all over cooked.. we informed the lovely staff on that day to which they quickly took care of the situation and emerged not even 10 minutes later with 12 perfectly poached replacement eggs with an edible flower next to them as a nice touch.. The food was yum! And having fully redeemed themselves with the eggs, we were so happy with our experience we returned the next day with 3 more friends joining us! Again a big group to cook for and all our meals were delicious, and the coffee was great too!! I must mention Kiri our waitress too, we had her on both days and this girl deserves a pay rise! Her service was outstanding, friendly, welcoming and efficient, she anticipated and took care of our every need.. lovely lovely girl.. Thank you Long beach for your hospitality. We will be back. x

Well after going today for my mums bday with my grandad it was going ok i looked passed the fact that i had to ask for another mug because mine was dirty i was really put off halfwaly through my meal when i found a long black hair in the batter of my fish! When i made them aware of it yes i did get an apology but the annoyed looks i got from a few of the girls that worked there i didnt appreciate i didnt feel comfortable asking for a new meal but they didnt go out of their to fix the problem either. First and last time i got there. So glad i spotted the gross hair before i ate it.

The food is always delicious. The staff are super friendly and the setting is perfect if you love gardens and the beach. Our favorite place on the coast for a meal or a beer/wine.
Laura Unasa
Oh definitely one of the most special places on the Kapiti Coast. It's family, it's food, it's life and it's garden. Oh the goodness that grows and comes from this place is something special. Unforgettable!
Shar McArtney
Had dinner with you tonight, and wanted to compliment you on the fabulous, attentive and friendly service, and lovely food. The vegetarian special was yummy and I really like how this changes regularly. Partner was highly impressed with the steak too! We've eaten here often and always enjoyed but tonight was thank you!

Delicious food. Lovely staff. Gorgeous garden. Great beer. I'd go so far as to say this is my favourite café in the Wellington region.
Brian Mccarthy
Akways good been a few times now when we visir friends and family in Waikanae. Staff are always friendly and accomodating and food is always fresh and tasty. Selection of wine and beer is ample. After a great meal take a walk on a great beach across the road
Rachel Liu
The best pizza ever!! Gorgeous desserts, super friendly staff, amazing atmosphere! Highly recommended! :)
Octagon Pie
Always my go to after a walk with my friends and our dogs at Waikanae beach! Fantastic outdoor seating area out back, with the option of heated benches if you are feeling cold!
The BEST part about this cafe though is their incredible pizzas!! They are honestly... so good! And to top it off, the service is always lovely and there is one waitress who just loves seeing the dogs, so thats always a highlight :) highly recommend.
Taleen Kassabian
Took a long time to receive drinks, longer to have anyone take our order and even longer to receive our food which arrived cold. Other silly annoying thing was none of our toast came buttered so it was dry and bland. Just feels like yet another beachy hipster place trying too hard.
Georgia Stuart
Always a treat dinning at Long Beach. Never a complaint. Food alway fresh and hot and tasty. As always had pizza and chips, which did not disappoint!

OK, so sorry for doing this, but I hope that it is constructive and helps the business to improve, I've never, ever left a bad review before, but really, I was so not impressed by our lunch today. Firstly, maybe renaming it 'Long Wait' might be helpful. It wasn't that full, the (over familiar, just be friendly and do your job, that's enough, truly) waitress made some excuse about poached eggs taking a while, at lunchtime...really....a poached egg!!?? We were c;early waiting for the hen to lay the egg....and then my main gripe, OH MY GOD how, just how do you F**** up a pumpkin salad, that was quite an art. Pumpkin slimey goop, smeared over a very small pile of spinach leaves, with maybe half a teaspoon of wet fetta bits intermittently smeared between the orange goo and a few stuck together slices of radish with no discernible tasting dressing. Really really poor food, and really overpriced, if you want to charge Wellington prices and play with the big kids provide value for money at the least. Oh and there are cobwebs and dead flies in your ceiling blinds.
Postcards From Peta
This is the place to be in Waikanae, for breakfast, lunch or dinner or even just coffee! Owned by locals, run by locals, this place feels like the heart and soul of Waikanae beach. All the food is great, coffee is great, beer is great!. See this in the app
Stacey
3 of us popped in for lunch today, our waitress was a little rude (she even told off another waiter right next to us in the middle of the cafe) and we waited a long time for drinks and food even though they weren't that busy. I wouldn't recommend anyone order a chai latte as it just tasted like warm milk. The only redeeming factor was the food was nice, not sure any of us would return here though.
Amanda Jane Adams
Total let down. We booked earlier in the week for fathers day brunch and requested a window, were seated in the centre of the room. The waitress was rude and had a bad attitude! The menu was disapointing and uninspiring and the food itself was only average. I could have made exactly the same thing at home for a fraction of the cost and without the dirty attitude from the blonde waitress. We couldn't get out of there fast enough!! I will not be returning, EVER.

Yummy dinner here last night. Cheese board starter was awesome with the mushroom pate being the standout of the night. Staff were hard pressed as only 2 out front with an almost full restaurant. They did an excellent job. Being rushed off their feet yet keeping a smile and taking the time to make sure everyone was looked after.
Jennie Gutry
Love this place and the whole story behind it. They serve the best coffee - Flight - from Wellington. The grow much of their own veg and herbs in the garden at the back of the café. They make all the baked goods in their own bakery and they brew their own beer in the brewery they set up. Love how these youngish people employ 30 people now between their four businesses. City quality food at the beach I reckon. A treat to dine at.
Trish Elise
Would be great to have any service!! Only way to get it after initial service was to go up to counter. Wait staff didnt even look to see if glasses empty or food wanted!!
The Food Snob
We popped in here for afternoon drinks and possibly food. We found the place to be unnecessarily pretentious, and the service really stuffy. The wine selection was excellent and the menu did look great but we didn't hang around after one round as it was really pompous feeling. The place is very clean, very well laid out and the staff look tidy and are professional but the air of this place made me feel like they were too good for us. It's just the vibe of it. I'd never go again purely for this reason.
Kerry
The food was delicious, atmosphere was great, drinks were good, but the service was absolutely shocking.

The level of rudeness amazed me. I felt bad for the staff because it was clear they had no pride working for this cafe. It would be beneficial for management to reconsider who they are hiring onto their team as the frontline faces of their company.

I would never return to this cafe even though the food was fantastic. Service is just as much a factor in the experience as the food is. I would also make a point to never recommend this cafe to anyone else due to the awful experience.

I have read a few other reviews on this page and I feel sorry for those who also experienced something similar to what I saw and heard. No one should be subjected to that kind of behaviour and be paying for the bill at the end!

The positive of the day was that the presentation of the food was beautiful and the taste matched.

I hope you all consider what kind of message you are sending to the surrounding community about your company name.
The Cynic
got given a warm iced chocolate, asked for a replacement, got given a warm iced chocolate with two iced cubes in it. at least they tried. my girlfriend got given a latte that needed sugar to mask burnt taste. nice place and helpful staff but wont be back.
Paul Stone
Good is always on point. But the staff are never happy. If you sit close enough to the kitchen you can hear the chef screaming busy at his staff. Will not be back to give this twat any more of my money.
Jennie Gutry
Great food- very gourmet for the price. Tuna, salmon and fresh fish all delicious. Great atmosphere and service. Lucky Waikanae Beach. Love the garden to table idea and edible flowers were gorgeous.
Philip Reeve
Dinner stop after a long drive homeward bound to Wellington.

The place was humming so we ended up sitting out in the garden which was lovely. The kids explored the kitchen garden while we waited for food.

Pizza's were all devoured and were declared delicious.
Tanya Hawkings
I'm sorry but this was rubbish. We had a booking made and no table to sit at only a bar table bench which my arms stuck to the table they were soo filthy and they didn't bother to seat the woman when asked to and then didn't serve us... We waited for 20 mins and walked out. There is such a thing as too casual and I think the word is lazy booooo
Our favorite place to grab a drink and a bite in Waikanae. Best craft beer menu on the coast, awesome pizza (and chili oil omg), and great staff.

Hmmmm. We were on a road trip north over Labour Weekend, and popped into Long Beach Café for brunch on the way through. We'd initially tried to go to the Front Room (which is a firm favourite), but they had a hideously long wait with food, so we popped next door to Long Beach Café. Following the experience we had at Long Beach Café, I can see why they had a number of free tables, whereas the Front Room was bursting at the seams! In all fairness, the food we ordered at Long Beach Café was great (creamed vanilla rice, and their big breakfast with everything); the coffee was good, and the young waitress who served us was just lovely ... it was just the rudeness of a couple of their staff that's made sure I'll never bother going back. As we were in a hurry (and I'd made that known when we arrived), after we'd been seated and waited for a bit, I'd popped back into the restaurant to grab a couple of menus so we could get started and at least figure out what we were going to have. Well. How VERY dare me?! I hadn't realised there were two doors to the courtyard - I'd popped in one door, while our lovely waitress had gone out the other one (I mean - the door is marked "toilets", so I hadn't realised it also doubled as a second entrance to the courtyard?!). I asked the surly girl making the coffees if we could please have a couple of menus, and got snapped at out and was ordered to go and sit down, as a waitress was headed in our direction [*stomp* *spit* *snarl*]. Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me?! (a) I'm not 6 years old; (b) umm, customer service anyone?; and (c) I can see why this particular individual is assigned to the coffee machine and not front line service (someone get this girl some Evening Primrose Oil, PRONTO). If we hadn't been in a rush, and I hadn't needed to feed my nephew, I would have walked out immediately, on the back of that interaction. Long Beach Café - you do so many things so well, but when you're in a customer service industry AND you have such a strong competitor right next door (where our experience that morning had been the polar opposite - the Front Room front counter staff immediately welcomed us with a warm smile, and advised they'd love to seat us, but that there would be a huge wait on food), just remember - I have a CHOICE where to spend my $40 on brunch ... your food is great, and your lovely young waitress helped balance the experience out, but such bare-faced rudeness and the bad attitude was enough to make sure I won't be choosing to spend my coin with you again!

Food is amazing always come here when visiting my parents!! One of my favorite places to get pizza!! Fantastic service everyone is always super friendly took my oma out for lunch two weeks ago she's in a wheel chair and they made special arrangements for her and were super helpful!! I have nothing bad to say about this place!!
LucyGoosey
I've been to Longbeach many times, it's a great spot for lunch in Waikanae - I am quite the regular over the summer months. I love the seafood pizza here; they are generous with the toppings, the salmon is fresh, and the prawns are big and juicy - de-lish! Their twice-cooked chips are also amazing. I have ventured out a couple of times and once I ordered their seafood chowder, which was also delicious. The food is very good here and they make a mean LLB! I love sitting in the sun in the patio area. The staff here are always very busy but they are friendly and attentive. This is a very popular café and I highly recommend it if you are in the area.
Steve Norman
Overpriced food about the quality of pub bar meals at twice the price, nearly an hour for our meals to arrive, small portions of fish n chips, greasy fish, luke warm chips. Our teenage kids went to the dairy for something to eat after leaving. Fish n chips at the takeaway around the corner was way nicer, cheaper and faster service. Staff were OK but under pressure I think. Wouldnt go again.
Chelsea Carlyle
Yummy pizza really enjoyed it. litrle garlic loaf was yum, well cooked and just the right amount of garlic. lemon lime and bitters had a good amount of bitters. overall good enjoyable night.
Saraya
I love this place! Every time I am in the Waikanae area this is the place I come. Great coffee and great pizza! This place is relaxed though still top quality with awesome staff! See you again Long Beach!
Jenni C
Went here with a large group - 6 adults and 6 children ranging in age from 1 - 15. We were there early on a Saturday night (6pm) The food was good but was slow in coming. We were however seated in the "bar" area so while it was relatively quite when we arrived we soon had people standing around our table drinking and the noise made conversation impossible. I left with a headache (and I have 3 pre schoolers so am used to plenty of noise). Next time I will definitely request to sit in the eating area and refuse to be seated in the bar
Richard Howell
Visited this morning with my young family and was very disappointed with the service.

The young waitress was friendly but lost our order we were left sitting at our table and after 20 minutes spoke with her to no avail.

Even after the reminder nothing arrived!

She came over and then asked who took the original order which surprised us as she had.

We left never having had any food and with a half hearted apology 45 minutes what a waste of time.
Mike Manning
Have been to this restaurant 3 times in past 2 years.

The variety on the menu is ok, but a bit biased towards pizza's which is disappointing.

Overall however this restaurant is reasonable value (apart from the pizzas) and the food is very good quality.

Staff while we were there were also very good.
Would give it 4 stars for brunch or lunch, maybe a bit less for other times of the day.
Bryan
Called in for a meal New Year's Day ...staff very friendly and helpful but meals were disappointing. Pork Belly was the size of a domino with a small amount of salad. The steak was also very small and thin with next to nothing with it under the heading large plates? Well the plate was large but it just didn't have much on it...you could see most of the plate!..for the over $30 price in a non table clothed establishment they don't deserve a review!
Pizzas were good along with the chowder.....
I think a review of the menu and presentation giving value for money is over due. Sorry but very disappointed with an over priced meal.
Jason Crowe
What's up with the scrawny short guy who seems to have an aversion to customers?? In 15 mins he managed to be rude and insult us several times.
Don't waste your time, the food and service is better at the restaurant next door.
And Mr curly - it would be nice to feel you appreciated your customers' business. Hopefully you'll get that and we will have an opportunity to visit again.
Bill
Excellent thin crust pizzas and great (hot!) chili sauce to accompany. Very good selection of beers and wines together with good coffee. Friendly staff and relaxed beach atmosphere. Seating outside as well as inside. A real mix of customers. Plenty of parking nearby. In essence everything a casual restaurant/bar over the road from the beach should be.
Kirsty
Love this place .. has a cool vibe and they work super hard to please.
It is great to pop in and just have a coffee and a yummy scone or casual pizza but they also serve fabulous food from an extensive and tasty menu with a focus on local fresh produce.
Staff are super friendly, well drilled and efficient.
Lots of nice touches make Long Beach our favoured local pit stop!
Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing the new renovations!
Mia Blignaut
Went here last night for a birthday celebration and was amazed by the good service and food.
Our table had the steak, pork belly and different pizzas - WOW - it was great.
My compliments to the chef, staff and owners!!!
Marguerita Harris
A new chef @ Long Beach has created a real buzz - the menu is FAB - I'd recommend the pork belly, it was melt in the mouth. The prawn entrees juicy and punchy with chilli and garlic. This is my new happy place!
Graeme Harris
My wife and I went to Long Beach last Friday night. It was busy and we hadn't booked but managed to get a table.
The new Chef has really done a great job revamping the main menu. The food was fantastic.
Entre of seafood on skewers in a piece of driftwood - perfectly done. I had the Angus eye fillet that was also perfect and my wife had butterfish that was superb. We've dined a lot in Wellington and I have to say this was right up there with the best. Congratulations.
Debbie Miller
Went to Long Beach for lunch today with a friend. Service was appalling, ordered a cheese scone, a pie and a saugage roll. After 10 minutes my cheese scone arrived, I had to ask 5 minutes later when the pie and sausage roll were coming, got told that I should have said I wanted them at the same time, sorry, if not specified by me, the customer, the food was to come at the same time. After that, was not asked how the food was, was talked about behind the counter with stares, and was not spoken to after that. Will never go back and will not be recommending this place to other friends
Dean Coe
Went down for a family birthday and very disappointed.
The fish and chips were very small for the price and the chips were cold about eight of our group ordered pizza and all were disappointed there was very little fillings some pieces had no filling at all and tasteless, for the money we spent it was very poor overall we struggled to find anything nice to say about the meal at, would not recommend
Laura
Best service I have had in a very long time. Our waitress Emily was very knowledgeable about the menu, made suggestions and recommendations so we took her advice.
We were all only there for desert, but the food was fantastic. Emily asked us for our thoughts once we had finished the meals and when we gave her some feedback for one small improvement she took it straight to the chef. She was energetic, had great people skills and a delight to have as our waitress.
Yet another fantastic experience at the Long Beach!
Kerry Marshall
We were extremely disappointed in menu, meals and service when we visited last week. Having had a completely different experience only three weeks prior, we could not believe it was the same restaurant. We will not be going back.
Andrew
Would not go back, service was appalling, wanted to order the steak, and swap the potato mash for fries (which are same price on the extras menu) and the waiter said NO. So instead i ordered the cheaper fish n chips, which was worse than the fish n chips you get at a fish n chip shop.

Waiter had a bad attitude and was quite forceful, i.e. picked up our empty drink and said "I'll get you another one" with out asking if we actually wanted another one.

So not a pleasant experience at all. Would not go back again.
Margie H
It's a fave and while a few months ago were afraid it might be going downhill - we had a lovely meal there recently. Maybe they had a dodgy chef for a while. Anyway - last weekend it was back to what it always has been, a place with enjoyable food, great wine and beer list and friendly, efficient staff.
Charlotte Hinksman
**Don't go here today -Boxing Day - you'll be disappointed**

I have a policy of not writing negative reviews without having given my feedback to the manager in person first and at least given them a chance to respond. I'm afraid this has been one of those times where I gave my feedback quite fairly and it wasn't received well by the owner and was negatively reacted to. This is a shame as it could have gone differently.

These guys are the only establishment open in Waikanae today and they don't have enough people on, or good enough infastructure, to handle the demand they're clearly under. We saw people leaving for the same reasons we weren't happy. We waited 40 minutes for the coffee and fluffy we ordered, and our croissant was given to another table who arrived after us, but got their order before us. The biscuit we ordered was wrong and the one that eventually arrived was not very nice. The compensation we were offered was not being charged for the food that we didn't receive and was wrong/ not nice. This isn't good enough, I'm sorry.

Here are some suggestions that would make things easier for everyone, staff and customers alike:

- if there's a long wait for things like coffee please tell us before we make the decision to sit down. That means we are making an informed choice. You might lose a bit of custom but at least you won't be dealing with unhappy customers and therefore reviews like this one.

- if you're going to be the only place open in town, please don't use this as an excuse for a bad dining experience, like you did today. Fair enough you were busy and clearly struggling but this could be avoided by making sure you have enough staff on, as you must have predicted how busy you would be today. If you make a decision to be open, make sure you execute it really well by having who and what you need to cope properly. Being the only place open is not a form of compensation to your customers.

- you could also put on a limited menu on a day like today rather than your full selection. This would make it more efficient for the chefs to pump out meals quickly. Perhaps more counter food also available would have made things easier.

- have people there soley focused on getting the coffee made and wait staff for just delivering coffee. Most people want coffee and this was your biggest delay today. Your wait staff were rushing around like blue-arsed flies and this could be avoided if you had specific coffee runners in addition to wait staff taking orders and delivering meals.

- if a customer is unhappy just acknowledge it and offer a decent compensation. That would have made a world of difference to us today.

We are really disappointed in today and your reaction to us. I feel like I was fair and not angry or rude. We've lived in Waikanae since 2012 and have been regular customers of all your establishments. I'm aware it is fairly slim pickings in Waikanae but there are other choices and I'll definitely be making some other choices after today. I feel sad about this but not sure what else to do.

I hope the rest of the day improves and that your staff get paid at least time and half for the difficult job they had today.

Charlotte.
Ray

My favorite food and coffee spot in Waikanae.
Great coffee (homemade marshmallow and little bikkies a definate winner!), good wine list, friendly and efficient staff... And very yummy pizza.

Long Beach is my family regular we love it. The food is always fresh and delicious and we have never been disappointed. I love the homemade marshmallow and so do my kids. A very laid back atmosphere with first class food. Recommend to all.

Went with others this evening. Paid $45 for a very average bottle of wine. I could have brought a much better one from Countdown for $15.

I ordered the steak meal. $30 for a bit of steak (which was quite good however), some over salty chips with a bit of garlic butter and salty sauce was quite crap. When asked about my meal I said it was overly salty and others at our table also said their meals were very salty.

The fish'n'chips that others ordered were just that (plain old fish'n'chips) and for the price a ripoff in my opinion.

Dessert was average and not worth the $14 it cost.

We will not be dining here again and would recommend others to steer clear.

It has been awhile since we purchased a pizza from Long beach but this Sunday we decided to have a treat. I don't know what could have happened but it was the most tasteless pizzas we have ever had. We will be back hoping that it was just one bad night as they were so good before. Hope the chef on the night reads this!

After having a pizza here a few years back and thinking it was quite good, I was very much looking forward to having dinner here last night. Unfortunately, last nights experience will see an abrupt end to my visits there. I did not have a problem with the service of the actual venue but the food was an absolute let down.
The pools of grease at the bottom of the bowl of my spaghetti bolognese was very off putting and the bland, tasteless dish was enough to prompt me to write this review. The other person in our dinning party that also had the same dish did not finish all of hers as she could not bring herself to bare the taste any longer.
Someone else had the fish and chips and that was also very oily. The fish itself was nice and tasted very fresh but the batter and the chips were ruined by the amount of grease.
And the pork chop special on the night was disappointing as far as portion was concerned with only one pork chop that looked like it was fresh off the BBQ.
With the total coming to just under $100 for 4 people, I did not see any value in this meal and left with a very sour taste in my mouth (both literary and metaphorically).
I rate our experience at a 1.75 stars out of 5. Our meals came out within a decent amount of time but the food really did not make for a great start to our night at all.
I will say though that the pizzas that we saw coming out did look good.

This cafe/restaurant has had its ups and downs over the few years we have lived in Waikanae. The present owners and chef have done a fantastic job. Turning a very ordinary cafe into a first class eating experience. This has been achieved by quality, trained staff, an enthusiastic chef that takes pains to cook and present high quality meals. The menu is quite limited but our party had no problem selecting what they wanted and all were highly complimentary. Great ambiance summer and winter. very popular. Highly recommended.

My wife and I consider Longbeach the best, and only restaurant on the Kapiti coast worth going to. The food is fantastic, and always of the same high level of quality even when the place is bursting at the seams. The wait staff are attentive and enthusiastic to help if they can. The drinks list is extensive and the staff have a great knowledge and are happy to make recommendations. If your on the Kapiti coast, Long Beach is definitely the place to go!

My husband and I visit this restaurant often. The last time we went we had great, friendly service and an amazing meal. We both ordered steaks and they were cooked to perfection and were absolutely beautiful. The best steak I have had at a restaurant. The chocolate dessert was to die for as well.

We have been here several times and its fabulous. Great food, an excellently diverse and interesting wine and beer list (which supports local producers). Last time we had a buffalo mozzarella entree which was wonderful. The tuatara beer battered fish is the best I've had.

Pizzas here are excellent.

Sorry to hear that Rhianon had a poor experience. Longbeach is my local cafe where I meet a large number of friends at least weekly. I have found the staff overwhelmingly pleasant and helpful, the food excellent and the wine list outstanding on the Kapiti Coast for its variety. The staff are knowledgeable about their wines and are happy to discuss it with you. I would give it another try on another day Rhiannon, I'm sure you will not be disappointed again.

I do not recommend. This was a very unpleasant dining experience. Service was shockingly poor, food was incredibly disappointing and knowledge of product was nonexistent. I was looking forward to a wonderful meal based on other reviews, however I feel I was very let down. I will not be dining here again and I will not recommend it to anyone.

This is the second time that we have eaten here but the first time under the new ownership. My husband and I arrived and we were greeted by friendly staff and asked where we would like to sit. We had good friendly service. We both ordered the steak his medium and mine medium rare with vegetables. Our wine turned up which was very pleasant which we enjoyed before our meals turned up. When they did we were VERY impressed the presentation was just impeccable, hubby even loved the vegetables and commented on how tasty they were which must be good as he is not overly keen as he is mainly a meat man! Both our steaks were cooked to perfection which is quite rare as I do not seem to have much luck with medion rare, either it is too rare of over cooked for my liking but this was melt in your mouth steak and tasty vegetables. Our only complaint was that we were too full to fit in a desert, so will have to save until our next visit which we will take the children to try the yummy looking pizza's!! Overall an excellent visit with one of the best steak meals that we have eaten in a very long time and very friendly staff. We will definitely be back!

With such favourable reviews regarding everything from service, venue, food quality and ambience my expectations were understandably high. The Café is nestled in a lovely setting. Beach front and oozing with vibrancy. My visit was at lunchtime. The café appeared busy; I thought that this café was going to be a ‘winner’. The service was prompt and friendly. There was plenty of sumptuous sounding food on the menu.
I ordered the Chicken Salad and my son ordered the cheese pizza.
The presentation of the food was above average. The Chicken Salad desperately needed more seasoning; it should have been bursting with flavour. I could see the mayonnaise, but couldn’t taste anything that elevated this ‘chicken salad’ into a ‘superb chicken salad’. I’m also not accustomed to the croutons being served as torn up pieces of white sliced bread.
My son had the ‘kids menu’ cheese pizza. In his words “It doesn’t taste of anything”. The pizza base did look ‘home made’ which was pleasing to the eye.
I can’t really fault the service and the toilets and restroom area was very clean. My culinary experience was let down by the ‘average’ food. This Cafe 'could' be something very special !!

This place has success written all over it. Nestled in an idyllic settling of Waikanae beach, Long Beach impresses every time with their fine coffee, balanced wine list, exciting food and impeccable service. I recommend L.B. to anyone looking something special yet not contrived.
