Review Olive Grove - Waikanae

Cute little cafe we stumbled into after not seeing anything for miles on our drive down to Wellington. I had elderberry tea and potato wedges and they were both great. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

Wow, what an awesome Café 👌. I'm so glad I called in this mōrena for breakfast. Service was excellent, kai was even better, and the kāwhe, perfect. Mango Smoothie was very tasty and amazing. Atmosphere was really ka pai, sounds of a busy kitchen, and looking at all the cabinet kai, it sure was. Hum of quiet conversation, with pauses of silence for quiet reflection. The breakfast and lunch menu looked amazing, and a ka pai variety of coffee's, tea's and juices. Stacks of ka pai seating throughout. Well worth visiting, definitely recommended.

The original Waikanae Cafe with great savouries and cakes at affordable prices. The latte is good but takes a while, so sit down and relax. Can recommend the bacon and egg pie with chips and bacon.

The place is super spacious and has really comfortable chairs. I had an afghan and strawberry milkshake and oh my word, the afghan is a generous size and very delicious, don’t be fooled by how small it looks in the photo! I can’t wait to visit again and see what other tasty food/drinks they have. The only reason I am giving a 4/5 rating is because there were two tables that hadn’t been cleared the entire time I was there (which would have been about 30mins). There were a few customers but the staff didn’t appear to be run off their feet, so I would have thought that maybe the tables could have been cleared then? Although it’s possible they never noticed? However I have never worked in the hospitality industry so I have no idea how it works. Overall, the uncleared tables didn’t cause an impact because there weren’t many customers at that time.

Called into Olive Grove Cafe around 1.15pm today and found an appealing array of options available for us to select from. The operator was learning the system, but the staff member helping her was great, and our order was quickly processed. My friend enjoyed the Lasagne, I had the bacon butty with a side hash brown, absolutely lovely served on a whole grain bread with relish and excellent coffee. The service was great and the staff cheerful. It's definitely worth pulling off the expressway and entering the shopping centre. No problem with parking.

This has to be my favourite cafe in Waikanae, every dish I’ve had off the menu if delicious and the cabinet food is tasty and offers a great selection. The staff are always willing to go above and beyond for any special requests. Highly recommended

Initial impression was the place is dated and well overstaffed. On taking our order the sour lady who took our order didn't greet us just simply said "breakfast has finished I suppose I will ask if they can do one for you" with that she walked away and came back and said "ok what do you want" - not a good start. We ordered the big breakfast and eggs Benedict. It came out quickly which was Good, my partner said the big brekkie was ok but lacked any real flavour in the ingredients, I had the eggs Bennie which was served on an under toasted roll that had been cut in half and was very sweet (did not eat this), sauce was ok, eggs cooked well but bacon was under cooked. Average at best. Whilst eating the many staff behind the counter stood about eating and drinking in clear view of the diners - not professional at all. Will not be returning - service well below par and food very average.

You are welcomed here by friendly staff, who really care about your dining/drinking experience. They will happily serve you their free trade coffee the way you like it best, and their cabinet food is very tempting each day. There are ample tables, and lots of reading matter if you have come to just chill out. The rest room is so spacious you could take the push-chair in if you wanted to...and under the large mirror there is a shelf to put your bag. Very convenient. (So many rest rooms are like stall! without room to swing a cat!)I have heard that their late night bar is just as welcoming after a hard week! Try them, you won't be disappointed.

----- 30 May, 2009 -----

The staff at the Olive Grove are very friendly, very helpful, and very quick. These people really care about you. The food in their "ready made" cabinet always looks fresh and inviting, and they take on board any special request you might make. AND their rest room is spacious and clean.

In my opion I feel that there must be sour grapes upon the bad reveiws for this cafe...
I have visted this cafe twice in the last few weeks and have found the place inviting ,I am in the customer service industry and to get a five star reveiw is extremely rare from a customers point. The toilets are clean the food fantastic and the staff over whelmingly friendly .. And my advice is to try Olive Grove Cafe and experience this for yourself I absolutely loved it!!!!!

I agree with Evelyn, after the departure of Doreen Aldrich the olive grove cafe' deteriorated, when i visited the cafe and paid for a rather disgusting burnt coffee i felt like i was in an op shop, i don't know why they decided to bring the gift shop and mix it in with the cafe because it looks horrible! I think i have allot of people behind when i say no one ran the cafe better than Kevin and Doreen Aldrich...they had integrity, style and standards!! Olive grove is not olive grove anymore, it's more like a junk shop!

Loved it here myself. As others have said, wonderful friendly staff - all strength to them. Tasty food and enough of it to feel fed. Great paintings - interesting for a change. And I felt relaxed here - nice laid back almost mediteranean feel to the place.

Whenever I drive up to Kapiti Coast, I can't resist stopping at the Olive Grove Cafe, Waikanae. You know how everyone has their favourite spots to refresh themselves. This is it folks the well kept secret in Waikanae Mall. There's a well thought out spot for the little kiddies all you tired Mum's. The food and drink excellent, I especially recommend any of the muffins or scones, my personal favourite the savoury muffin, the kids love the large selection of slices. I think the gracious staff there go the extra mile with service, always chirpy and helpful, and to top it off I've bought trinkets as presents as there is a selection of gift wares and some local artwork on the walls to ponder to admire. Great decor you have your choice of outdoor or indoor seating at tables or a comfortable couch, and relaxing music, Waikanae must feel spoilt. Guess what there's more! I recently discovered the Olive Grove cater for events and has a bar license so I'm looking into that. I gave them 5 stars!!

I have been to the Olive Grove many many times and have never been disappointed. The service is great (the staff have great customer service skills) and the food is fast and delicious. About all you could ask for I think. Well done Oliver Grove.

I to have eaten at the olive grove cafe and have found the food to be very yummy and well priced, as for the staff I have never seen them to be unpleasant ever. I highly recommend the olive grove if you wish to dine out in waikanae.
BEST BACON AND EGG PIE this side of the north pole.

Are you serious. This is at best a sad, tragic mishmash of a place. Service lousy, food worse, coffee overpriced and feels like a junkshop. The carpet smells funky. Slaps of desperate.
