Forgot to take a pic before eating so actual portion size is bigger than the photo. Really really good Jjajangmyun and jjambbong. Also their tangsuyuk is the best in the shore with a perfect ratio of batter and meat. Reasonable price and great portion size. I was not a big fan of this place when it was in Wairau Valley in the past but now I am a huge fan. Taste of menu has improved a lot. I highly recommend their gochu jjambbong.

Our family comes here at least a few times a year I feel and it's always been good plus had something for anyone. Me, in particular, I naturally love any of the sweet n sour or spicy fried chicken or pork. First time I had ė°±ģ„øģ£¼ baekseju too! Guess I'm living to 100 now šŸ˜

Good place for Korean Chinese cuisine. The 3 in 1 sets are great options for two people.

Thought i would not be able to find this yummy korean seafood noodle shop again as it closed its Wairau shop. Happened to try the Northcote shop and yay!!! Missed it sooo much
Hyunju Kim
All the dishes were fresh and we had a delicious dinner.

Amazing food especially if you like jajangmyeon. These guys moved from Wairau to Northcote. Same owners, same good food, same kind service. All my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the food here.

Food is yum and a cute place, highly recommend to try..

Sometimes you don't want complicated or overdone. Harimgak is the place for a few simple noodle and rice dishes done to perfection. The staff are nice and friendly as well which helps with the fresh ambiance sorely missing from many northcote eateries.

Family owned business with tasty food, orders do take a while but quality control is fantastic!

Great restaurant for your black bean noodles. Food is nice and quantity is ample. Price is okay. Plenty of space inside. However, parking is very limited. Make sure you don't park in other stores parking as they might tow you.

Best Korean Chinese style food in Auckland. I love the deep fried sweet spicy pork and prawn. Also the noodles are tasty.thanks

Delicious and authentic Korean rice and noodle dishes. Suitable for any number of guests. Must try their seafood options especially the ones with the tangy black sauce.

Nice food

Reliably good tasting food, I do enjoy their prawn dish and black bean noodles, but I wonder if they use MSG in their cooking? I mean, the thirst I feel after dining here is intense.

I love noodles! This place has one of my fav Korean style Chinese noodles of all time! JAJANG MEN: Black Soya Bean paste noodles! Not forgetting other Korean noodles if you love spiciness like me!

Wonā€™t come back again! The food portion was way too small and we waited for ages for our food. The taste was pretty average and we felt sick afterwards.
Andrean
We came with high expectations and we went home feeling disappointed.
The noodle was too soft and the black bean sauce was average. The only thing that we liked was the sweet & sour pork.
We won't come back, thank you.

Got some Black bean sauce takeaway and it was pretty much a glob of jelly from using too much starch. I can't believe it. I should've bought some instant sauce from the supermarket nearby instead.

Korean food is almost synonymous to table top gas-powered barbecue grills, it might be good in some ways but it takes the limelight leaving other Korean dishes in the dark. There are many great dishes that the Korean cuisine can offer and one way to find that out is by dining in to a Korean restaurant that does not offer Korean barbecue.

We ordered the two people set consisting of noodles in black bean sauce (ģ§œģž„ė©“), and spicy seafood noodle soup (ģ§¬ė½•), and deep fried pork w/ sweet sauce (ķƒ•ģˆ˜ģœ”).

I absolutely loved every part of every dish, the flavours were just absolutely perfect. Amazing value as the set was only $34 for three dishes to share between two people and the portion sizes were definitely more than satisfactory. Superb service and I canā€™t wait to come back again.

The dishes they have are sort of Koreanised Chinese dishes. Back in the 60-70s I guess, Chinese migrants in Korea invented(?) for Korean likings. My advise is before you come here donā€™t expect itā€™s Chinese restaurant instead itā€™s just another branch of Korean cuisine. You might be able to enjoy better :)

Came here at lunch time, hard to find carpark. We are seated immediately and ordered 2 people set menu plus fried dumplings. Food took a while to arrive but taste delicious. The jjampong is the highlight along with spicy chicken and the dumplings. The jjangmyun quite nice too. Canā€™t fault the taste and value of money for $45.

I always come here for their sweet and sour pork and trust me when i say they really have the best sweet and sour pork. Although over the years the serving has gone smaller, but that doesnt stop me from coming here cos the sweet and sour pork is just soo yummy. Staff is friendly too especially the lady owner.

You will see a lot of Chinese rather than Koreans here. No wonder.... We have ordered set of deep fried chic, Jjajang Myun and Jjambbong. There is no veges or other ingredients on deep fried chicken (ź¹ķ’źø°) other than small pieces of chicken and barely see onions and veges other dishes too!
Menu price isnā€™t reasonable when you compare food quality with other Korean-Chinese restaurant.
Never revisit nor recommend this place.

One of my old time favourite Korean/chinese restaurant.

Consistently good food. Could be a bit of wait for dinner if it is busy. But once it is on the table, normally nothing left to take away as it is too tasty. Lady owner is super friendly.

Overall nice food with good service. Tried the spicy seafood noodle, deep fried chicken with sweet sauce and combination vegetable and seafood.
Definitely will come back!

I loveeeeee this placesā€™ Jajjangmyun!!
If thereā€™s nothing you want to order here, thatā€™s something you have to order!

I came here and we ordered 2 large Jajjangmyun, Mandu and soup to share, it was very filling.

Downside is that the waitress didnā€™t speak a lot of English, so there was difficulty communicating, but she tried very hard. ā˜ŗļø

I personally like their black bean noodle and spicy noodle soup so much (despite all the Korean haters they got lol) I think their food is super good price is reasonable and portion is okay (but then again I don't eat much) maybe you could ask them if you can get extra large serving ? (In Korea normally you would be able to but not sure if they would)

I often get takeaway from here since the service is fast and the food is good. I finally decided to dine in today since I was in Wairau.

Service: 8/10
There werenā€™t any workers when we first walked in. You can click the button on the side to get their attention and they immediately come. The food was served within 15 minutes.

Food: 7/10
I got the combination fried rice and black bean noodle. The portion of fried rice was quite small compared to the noodles. I usually order the black bean noodle and these noodles were up to standard. They werenā€™t too salty even though there was a lot of sauce.

Ambiance: 7/10
It was quite dark inside and had a calm atmosphere. There was a lot of space and made me feel quite comfortable.

Overall, one of the best korean Chinese restaurants available on the shore. I will definitely be returning whenever I crave some black bean noodles.

Great food great service. Came on Saturday night and surprisingly it was not packed, quickly seated by a friendly waitress. We ordered a combo for two people which had vege noodle, black bean noodle and fried sweet and spicy pork for $34. The food was really good, I have no complaints except I wish there was more! Surprisingly the seafood noodle was really good, you could really taste the seafood and the flavours were spot on. The jajungmum(black bean noodle) had all the right flavours but it was a really small portion and the sauce was a bit watered down for my taste but it was still a solid 4/5. The sweet and spicy pork was 100/10, it was so crispy I was in shock and the flavours were perfect( it is not too spicy for those who donā€™t like spicy food.) overall great place, just wish the portions were bigger as well finished everything and could eat another bowl of noodles.

"Life is good! Life is good! I can finally 'have my cake and eat it'.

That was my actual expression when I saw the 2-in-1 bowl of black noodles and spicy seafood noodles option. Finally, a restaurant who knows their customers (like me).

The black noodles are good, but not the best I've tried. Spicy noodle is of good heat to my liking..they tend to be super spicy elsewhere.

Fried dumplings are average - skin is slightly too thick. In terms of portion, the large black noodle's serving is massive!

Overall, very friendly and warm service. Will go back there to try other dishes.

P/S; I'll give A+ for cleanliness

Portion sizes are a bit smaller now but would give dumplings/jajangmyun/tangsuyuk/jjambbong 4/5 stars. Very clean and tidy with great service.

The jjajiangmyeon, sweet n spicy chicken, fried dumpling are soooo good. I love going there when I crave for Korean comfort foods. One of the downside is they get really busy at dinner time and the waiting time can range from 15-45mins but good food takes time right

Omg! I ordered at 4.48pm for takeaway and they said it'll take 20 minutes. I could understand that since it was their break time and kitchen start again at 5pm. So I paid and left to mock around outside. And after 20 minutes, I came back and still waiting. More people came after me, but some of them already got their food. I waited for another 10 minutes to see maybe it takes longer to cook the sauce. Till my partner came and a bit annoyed because he waited for more than 30 minutes in the car. I asked them where is my food, and the lady just said 2 more minutes. At the end I've wasted my time 45 minutes in total when some of other dine-in customers already ate their food.
What a 'great' customer service I got. So annoyed!

I love Harimgak! I go there regularly with Korean friends and have always had a good time. Service is friendly, and the younger staff members speak English perfectly. I like that you can choose the size of your main (regular or large).

Their menu has a good range of traditional Korean items and some more Chinese-inspired dishes.

The fried pork pieces with sweet sauce was amazing, and a pretty big portion for 'medium size'.

The jabchaebab was a bit spicy for some reason and didn't come with soup. It was tasty and filling though.

The only warning I'd give is that service can be a bit slow even if the restaurant's not full; on a regular Saturday night we had to wait 30mins for 5 dishes.

I was in the area of this restaurant try to find food and never notice this shop. But I'm so happy that I never missed out trying this restaurant and what surprised me is the price is so reasonable and the portion of the meal is satisfying my stomach. Really happy to found this place in Glenfield and for those living here should come and try if you never been here. I tried combination fried rice with seafood and a set of 2 pax lunch set if not wrong is called chicken in spicy sweet and sour sauce come with 2 types of noodle. With this 3 person meal not exceed 50 dollar. We are so surprised and never step in wrong. Wish to try other food in the menu in other visit to this shop. Thanks!

I came here for lunch one Sunday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised at how awesome the food was! We ordered their jajangmyun, chicken and beef tang soo yook, jjambbong and this noodle dish that was tossed in a thick tomato based sauce. I'd recommend ordering their jajangmyun (black bean noodles) as it seems to be their specialty (lots of korean customers there were eating jajangmyun). Try it with a dash of soy sauce and vinegar or you may find it a tad bland! The texture of their noodles was my favourite part! Chewy and springy yet soft and melty. They were kind of like udon noodles but better! The jjambbong was a notable dish too - flavoursome, not too oily and very hearty. Can't wait to try all of the noodle dishes on their menu!

I went there a few days ago with a friend. We ordered a 2 person combo with hot and spicy chicken for the main shared dish and I had the seafood made-to-order Jjajahngmyun for noodles. I asked the noodles to be "al dente" as I like my noodles to be on the chewy side but what I got was half cooked noodles. With this particular dish the sauce is made to order and is served in a separate bowl as opposed to Ā normal Jjahjahngmyung which is premade and is served poured on top before they come out, but they didn't give me enough sauce so the noodles became drier and was not as flavorsome as it should've been. I was already a bit annoyed because at the time the restaurant wasn't even busy but the service was really slow and I had to wait so long and ask many times to get the things I requested. The portion of the main chicken dish was too small for me I thought.

This was actually my first time trying Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles)! this noodle was so tempting, then I decided to try it šŸ˜‚ The taste is amazing, it is sweet yet close to perfection! The black bean paste is so thick and you will need to cut the noodles bcs it is soo long! Interesting! Would definitely come back since not many places in Auckland that offers Jajangmyeon :'D
FOODFANATICJIMMY
I would say one of the best Jjajangmyun places in Auckland! Love the service, great good!! If you havent tried 'jjajangmyun' (a sweet black bean paste based noodle dish) and 'Jjambbong' (a spicy seafood broth based noodle soup with veges and seafood), come to this place. Their sweet and sour pork is just like the style that is served in Korea. For larger parties (5-6 people), try their $140 set menu which is kind of like a degustation menu, a bit of the most popular dishes! (Caution: some flavours of the dishes may be unfamiliar (for example the 'yangjangpee' and the 'palbochae' which are included in the set menu). Some of these are seafood based and in the case of yangjangpee, there is quite a strong wasabi based sauce so watch out! But overall, great value for money, is filling and most importantly tasty!

My family and I always walk pass this restaurant since we always go to the other two korean restaurants next to this one. Our friends recommended us to try this place so we thought why not?

Food was decent it's very home cooking. Especially when you can actually order halfnhalf of two different dishes so you get to try both at the same time. I ordered some dumplings, spicy soup noodles and black beans noodles. Staff are friendly and attentive. Their dishes are reasonably priced but I personally prefer korean dishes that come with side dishes so I probably won't be in a rush to come back.

Delicious Korean Chinese food. Jjajangmyun is a go to with the fried pork. A little bit pricey I must admit but a great family restaurant to go to

Korean Chinese fusion. Simply brilliant.

Must try their spicy seafood noodle and sweet sour pork. Noodles with black bean sauce is good also.

Can't find food like this anywhere but here.

Situated right next to the restaurant Haroobang, they both serve 'Korean-styled Chinese food', they share a lot of dishes but with their own specific tastes.

The food is very good with generous servings and flavoured wonderfully. The interior is plainer than Haroobangs although I would say the furniture beats it slightly.

Overall it just bareeeeeeeely loses out to Haroobang, which makes for a tough decision considering they are both situated right next to each other.

Iā€™m not really sure if you would call it fusion or just Koreanised Chinese food or just straight up Chinese owned by Koreans. But hey who needs labels I want to eat.
Itā€™s a big-ish restaurant with an upstairs level. I thought the place looked pleasant with its wooden furniture and chandelier and some of their decor. Staff were nice and quickly brought us tea when we got there.
They also have a button on the table that you press to call the staff (no need for waving around). Food came relatively fast.
One of the dishes I liked was the sweet and sour pork, Itā€™s in the middle of sweetness spectrum for me when it comes to sweet and sour meat dishes.

More on: http://sweetsandbrains.com/2014/05/05/harimgak/
