Review Denny's - Wairau Valley

Maria-Theresa Kare-Ariki
We went there for dessert and chips and had a lovely time. It was quiet enough to have a good catch-up, yet it was quite busy as well. We were seated quickly. Our server was helpful. The restaurant is located at the bottom of Wairau Park and includes lots of parking, which is handy. When looking out the huge windows, we looked out onto a duck pond.

They've had a rough ride these last few months with low staff numbers, so service has often been slow and queues long. However, staff cannot be faulted for their care of diners. We visit often as they have the variety to support a picky family's eating requests and to support local. They never fault in greeting us, taking care of our needs and asking for feedback at the end. Although the pricing seems to have increased, this is usual for most businesses nowadays and I cannot fault their food either. We went again yesterday and was happy to see the Birthday Meal Deal still offered - yay!! Keep up the great work Denny's - you're 5star in my book! Sorry no photos, food doesn't last long enough in front of my gob - maybe next time!.. LOL

Can we take a moment to check out the huge size of the pork ribs for $35. I mean its huge compared to a few more places. They have the best food and the quantity is fare according to a person. Dont forget to try their milkshakes and desserts. Got a pretty basic ambience with ling tables and a poolside view. Staff is friendly and nice to communicate with. A definite to go

Nice and good there. Parking is a problem there. As the car yard next door is taking over all available parking. And the car yard has very very big cars. I came out and found my car was blocked in by another car. It was parked mm meters away from me. I had to go to the car yard to ask them to move thier car. It is not easy to park there now

Been coming here for nearly 20 years. Kids absolutely love it. I always have the salmon skillet. Desserts are great. It's a low key place, easy going.

For the price vs amount of food and being open at all hours, the restaurant is pretty standout. Only reason I give a 4 on food and service was my waiter couldn't answer/didn't understand my question about the size of the nuggets or burger I asked about. The manager and chef made up for it with politeness and a warm goodbye.

It's my first time to visit Denny's family restaurant. I was attracted by the ad on the roadside that $9 special lunch Monday to Friday. I have the BLT with curly fries and its wonderful. Fresh ingredients with yummy sauce. I personally don't like the fries but I'm sure other may love it. Banana smoothes is wonderful too. Staff are very friendly. Very good environment, next to the pond.

Saturday 4pm. Partner and I rocked up hungry as. Despite being sceptical from our last experience eating here about year ago. we decided to give it another chance. Customer service was excellent, warmly greeted and seated as soon as we arrived, by friendly female staff. didn't have to wait long for order to be taken. Food came out hot and almost correct. Staff apologized and bring out the missing egg from my premium burger. Didn't mind, glad they were transparent and communicated this with me. Curly fries were cooked to perfection, golden, crispy n crunchy. partner ordered the chicken Melt which was crunchy, tasty an delicious. Atmosphere was a little cold,. Could either turn ac off or up as it's already cold an was making customers cough n sneeze. We enjoyed our food and our dining experience. I would recommend this Denny's for anyone looking for a nice hot delicious burger or toastie, who knows we could potentially be back for another meal.

Denny’s food is my absolute favourite. The burgers are nice and juicy. Their curlie fries are full of flavours and the texture is bang on for me. For all chocolate lovers, I strongly recommend their hot chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding! Service, ambiance and hygiene is very professional.

I've been going to Dennys in Wairau Road since about the age of 3. The restaurant itself although it has been updated since then needs another overhaul but if you want middle of the road good tucker then this is your place.

Came here for my birthday and the meat was rather tough, not a happy evening 😒

Tried a Veggie burger and My Colleague had a lamb burger🍔enjoyed with crispy fries🍟so overall good meal for us☺️☺️

Favourite restaurant ever, been coming since i was a child. My go to order is their fettuccine carbonara and macaroon brownie for dessert, I 100% recommend.

You know what, nothing fancy but always a comfort place. Especially this one at Wairau park.<br/><br/>Good ambience, lake view, good service, clean, good filter coffee. What more can you ask for. Sometimes when we all use to the fancy cafes and restaurants, Denny's takes us right back to the good old days. <br/><br/>Nothing beats a club sandwich, endless coffee, hot fudge cake and good times with friends.<br/><br/>

Love dennys for their dessert esp macroon fudge❤

Loved the service tonight!!! Management was great, service was to our liking, atmosphere was balanced between leaving the house and not...LoL after lockdown it was sooooooo right!! Shared a beautiful meal with friends, food was hot, fresh, on time and delicious 😋 <br/>Because it’s Samoa 🇼🇸 language week.... Fa’afetai fa’afetai lava 👌🏽

HAH damn ok I was tryna make it through life without stepping foot in Denny's but ya girl didn't succeed. Came here with the bestie & the boys after a rough night. At 3am you'd think Denny's would be dead but there were actually a fair amount of people there. One of the guys and I went in to suss it out and the man made us wait for a seat like yeah there was a big group of us but c'mon they weren't that busy like we all squished around one table it wasn't a problem. I didn't get anything but I just stole everyone else's drinks. Ma main girl got a pineapple juice which was rank, watery and tasteless, The homie on the other side of me got a chocolate shake not bahd good soize he liked it, I personally didn't even bother, not a fan. A couple of the other guys got different flavoured shakes. Overall the vibes were good, music was on point, toilets & drinks were rank, not to mention the lack of staff and unenthusiam but it is what it is at 3am. Defiently good after a rowdy night. x

The quality of the food here really is more than you’re money’s worth. Service was great, food came quite quickly and staff were attentive. Enjoyed everything I ate, and will most definitely be back.

Best things: breakfast menu, milkshakes, dessert menu and curly fries. <br/><br/>Got the French slam which had yummy sausages, bacon and eggs but the French toast was dry and stale even with the maple syrup. The buffalo wings with sour cream and sweet chili sauce are pricier but a really good portion. First few bites were nice but after a while the sweet chili becomes too overwhelming. Curly fries are the best for $7.50 and massive, be prepared for a takeaway box. And the milkshakes are so creamy, thick and yummy. Generous amounts of ice creams used, never watered down!

Dennys is our go to for late night dessert cravings! Their hot fudge cake is always a winner and their milkshakes are delicious and good value. This time we also got the macaroon brownie which was nice but not worth $9. The hot fudge cake is also now $9 (use to be $8) and the portion size has markedly reduced which is a shame.

Waited almost an hour for burnt and cold food m

It was challenging to come this restaurant knowing the rate is very low but the surrounding view is very nice with a pond.<br/><br/>The seat is very comfortable to sit.<br/><br/>The waffle with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup was surprisingly tasty.<br/><br/>If some water was provided after eating this very sweet dessert, it would be nice and refreshing.<br/><br/>I thought it was basic to provide some water to customers if it's restaurant type.<br/><br/>The long black coffee tasted awful. The small spoon attached on the saucer was not clean so didn't use it.

Just wanted a cheap and cheerful breaky. Got seated straight away and waited .... and waited ... and waited. And walked out. No wonder other reviews are so dire
Shayne Archer
average tasting, overcooked, overpriced food. Worst place to eat in wairau.
Laken 010698
Yo this place is whack. Its pretty good when the place is dead (weekdays at lunch times) because the order wont take long. During busy hours, expect your meals to be cooked within 1 to 2 hours like wtf. Meal price are 'ok'. Ive been to multiple burger joints and I can say Denny's burgers are hella scams. No music, so all you hear is clattering of plates and people. Dishes were meh, most dishes offer chips to compensate the lack flavours in their food
Nae Nae
Staff were INCREDIBLY nice and prompt. Great conversation and they looked like hard workers. Food was lovely as well. This place is recommended🌟🌟

Love Denny's wairau valley since school days, open 24 hours and you can order anything anytime except alcohol. A great choice if you just want a low key, quick family breakie, lunch or dinner. One of my favs for sure
Matcha907
The food was alright although it definitely filled the belly. Service was quite bad. Staff are not attentive. Also we waited a while waiting for someone to take our order until we got up and went to tell them we're ready to order.

I was craving for pancakes and went to Denny's.  Me and my husband were disappointed.  The pancake is like a rubber. I hope you will improve your recipe.

I see that this place is a hit or miss for most people. We have been visiting this place for years now and I have to agree, food quality varies everytime. I mostly eat steaks, salmon, lamb, fish, etc because I'm a carnivore and do not want to stuff myself with chips and bread but it is kind of expensive for casual weekend brekkie. However, we still continue to come here for my hubby because this is the only place (as far as we know) that serves a savory french toast option. And it is a hit everytime for him because he only eats French Slam in here and they have a steady french toast going on. I also now have settled for Moroccan lamb or salmon. Steaks vary so much. I always ask for medium rare but have been served from rare to welldone throughout the years. Servers are friendly but they often get the order slightly mistaken such as vegies instead salads, double serving of maple syrup instead no maple syrup and extra butter..etc.
Chris L
Really bad food. Staff just doing their job. Average. Outdated decor. Salad is terrible probably soaked in oil ha more calorie than a steak being a bit extreme 🤣

I can see there are lots of bad reviews with this Denny’s but ‘touch-wood’ our experiences have always been a positive one. We are always seated immediately, food served as ordered and the family is a happy-tummy. This place offers a free meal on your birthday and also open late which is quite a rarity. Food is great value, big portions. Their curly fries is massive and it’s only $7. I think if you don’t expect too much, you would be surprised.
Jinky Jimenez Cruz
Perfect place to eat Breakfast especially on the weekends. Big portions. Love their curly fries, omelettes, free flowing coffee and their oreo pancakes.
Alex Woo
No phone order available for takeaways. I don't know why but a bit disappointed. Had to go in to order a beef lasagne. For a 22 dollar tag, the food was 2.5/5. Too small and I am pretty certain it was frozen.<br/>

Was there tonight for a catch up with friends.  Was not that busy, but the waitress is really in the job, checked our table 3 times during our stay for 1 hour around. The new Berry Smoothie is really yummy and my friend tried the Hot Fudge Cake, really good. Liked it. Place is very clean and relax feel. Sad we came early and didn't get their buy 3 burger get 1 burger free deal after 8pm. Maybe try next time. Thank you!

I and my children spent a lovely time in Denny's during school holidays. We enjoyed the environment. It was fresh, clean and tidy. The staff representatives were very polite and friendly. The pizzas were amazing, and the kids really liked them. We highly appreciate the staff's attention and the professional service provided as well as the delicious food. Undoubtedly, I would visit Denny's again with my family :)

Much better than Dennys in Manukau, menu almost identical but Wairau Valley has a few different options to choose from, meals came out quickly, staff were polite, store was clean & tidy, nice location too, ask for a window seat & you can watch the swans & ducks while you wait, I'd recommend the seasoned wedges with bacon & sour cream, big serving size & enough for 2 people.
Victor Trisnadi
A bit disappointing experience. Order for take away and kept waiting for awhile. After that the staff just give me the product without bag. And when I ask for bag, the staff frown.
Lance Tie
So you have to be careful what order from the menu, choose well and you will be rewarded with reasonable meal. Service is always good for us but defo agree with other comments on the dated decor.
Janice McCartain Dagg
Was driving around the area and stopped in here for dinner. Decor is dated but is along the same lines as the rest of the Dennys chain. Service was prompt. Between my husband and I we ordered the Spring Rolls, Garlic Bread. I had Patty Melt. My husband had a burger.<br/><br/>Highlights would be the entree they were tasty. I wasn't so impressed with my Patty Melt. It seemed smaller compared to other Denny restaurants that I have been too. Also it seemed to be a bit overcooked (the meat patty was burnt).  Still edible but not as enjoyable as I was hoping for.
Its Me
Yall just need to appreciate that they open all night long on the weekend.. I love it here just to chill sometimes eat fatty meals you can grab drinks or have some sweets. Just think of it as a extensive fast restaurant that open late with a bar (so they charge you more than McDonald's) because it actually is! And they are super good for fast food chains
Brooklyn
Came for dessert. <br/>Was clean and quite busy which is a good way to start!<br/>Ordered a macaroon brownie and soda pop. <br/>The soda pop wasn’t great, the macaroon brownie came swimming in sauce and had a really weird texture to it.<br/>Will probably stick to a choc fudge brownie next time.

On a cold evening, I actually fancied a warming soup and suggest for my partner to meet me there. He was already seated and told me there was a 40 minute wait. Very odd as the restaurant was empty...except for a massive tour group seated in the corner. Another couple walked away when they were told of the wait for food. I asked if we could atleast have a drink and happy to wait for food. All good! We were seated and brought menu's and decided to order anyway. Our drinks were delivered quickly and suprise suprise, food was delivered within about 10 minutes of ordering. Pretty impressive.<br/>I had the nachos which were ok. Missing a lot of meat and were quite dry with big chunks of green capsicum which were bitter sadly. Partner had the fish bites and prawn on skewers. Overall the quality of the food was average to say the least but really, you pay for what you get. Denny's isn't haute cuisine. It's fast and filling. Staff were super friendly tonight and fast so can't complain.

About 2.5 star: it’s a shame it’s not open 24/7 anymore just on Friday and Saturdays! Always get the French slam which is good and filling. Chips are average, Mocha’s well you can’t call it one! But the last time we went here they were rather busy, waited longer than usual for food and it came luke warm/ cold even though it was a sizzling hot plate!! But neither of us returned our food as we had waited long enough and didn’t snag to have to wait any longer. Prices have gone up a bit and some of the meals are not worth those prices for the quality and taste! If you looking for a reasonably cheap family dinner this is the place
Kaipara Bartlett
I found a hair in my first meal and I sent it back and the second meal they sent me had another hair, 2 hairs in a row.... world record. Do not recommend
Phoebe Vu
Good food but not open 24/7. Nice place to come. Staffs was ok. I love the way they made with potatoes. Prices maybe a little higher with the qualities.
Rachel Fenton
The food was below average, I asked for medium rare steak and got medium. You can only order a cheese burger if you’re under 10 or over 65... otherwise you have to order something else and remove everything you don’t want. Decor is dated and unwelcoming. We won’t be eating here again. The only bonus was the friendly waitress. Paying must be optional I guess as we stood at the counter while 3 confused staff didn’t know which one of them would be helping us pay. Not a great experience.

Went for a dinner and was so disappointed.<br/>The manager, who seemed like an Indian lady was shocking. Her attitude was definitely not right. She was rude the whole way through and was not welcoming. We also ordered sirloin steak and lamb steak, which was very old and smelly and tasted like water. It seemed to have been defrosted and not cooked properly inside. Only the outside looked ok. We have complained about this to this manager and did not get anything back except a frown on her face, with an angry tone. No apologies at all, whilst the other staff members came and apologised instead. However the curly fries was good. I totally do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Claudia Willis
Fantastic family restaurant we got the hot fudge brownie, Lovely service and always great food. Waitress Veronika was amazing!! Such a homely feel.
Brittney
The wait for the food was long. Our dessert came out before our main meals & when the mains came out, the server forgot to write down one of the meals. From what we did order (mushroom & cheese burger) there was only one mushroom in the burger. Poor service & communication skills on their part. An attempt to soothe the broken heart of the unfed was made, but the damage was done & there was no point in ordering again, otherwise, we'd be there all night. I will not be coming back again.
Dhananjay Apparao
Food was mediocre - but portions generous. The service not inspiring - but quite quick. Place was quite dirty - need a good clean. Was served coffee in a dirty cup! Good location - overlooking a nice pond!
Aaron Deo
Went there with my mates as my mate and I had never been before so expectation in the middle was a bit of a wait but it's usual when it's busy. Food was pretty good and desert was as well :)
Graham Upson
HAVE BEEN HERE SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS. VISITED RECENTLY AND FOUND SERVICE SLOWER, MENU CHANGED AND MORE EXPENSIVE NOW. MEAL WAS BLAND.
Nina
1.5 for the pancakes , large portion, fluffy pancakes. <br/><br/>Don't order anything else... the food smells off. <br/><br/>Else: <br/>Decaf is not fresh ... instant coffee<br/>The branch looks dirty <br/>It smells and is stuffy
JPK
Tried them for breakfast one Sunday morning. <br/>Coffee was served cold and then breakfast was served almost 20 minutes later. <br/>Breads were toasted and dried... Hard to eat.<br/>Omelette was not perfect. <br/>Below expectations.
Pras Haryanto
Absolute disaster. The food was a complete mess and expensive. Literally one of the worsts if not the worst dining experince I've ever had in Auckland.
Shane
I've been here a handful of times it has been mixed as in the food quality the prices are a bit steep. One night while waiting for our food we witnessed one of the chefs enter the rest room wearing blue latex gloves and retuned to the kitchen wearing the same gloves we felt so sick and left. HYGIENE ZERO :-\<br/><br/>
Wren
I went there with a family group because someone had a birthday and they give you a free meal on your birthday. They used to give you your meal free but now they only give you the cheapest meal on the table free. The prices for lunchtime are average, but the food is pretty awful. One of the party had a chicken dish and the chicken consisted mostly of fat. The previous time I had been there I ordered lamb shanks and when it arrived it was frozen around the bone. I had a meat pie another time and the pastry tasted like cardboard - I'm sure it was a frozen pie. My gluten free son tried to order a meal but each time they brought out his steak and potatoes they had either a sauce or potatoes with gluten in it. He gave up in the end and bought dinner elsewhere. (The mashed potatoes were apparently made from a dried potato mix.) Trying to be helpful I wrote them an email explaining how to improve their knowledge of gluten free, but never had a reply. I don't think they really care. The food and service has deteriorated over the years. It used to be reasonably busy but during the day there is hardly anyone there, which is an indictment in itself. Our family all agreed we won't bother to return, even for a cheap meal on a birthday.
Miao
Aha, kinda the worst service i have ever had in the restaurant... No smile, not even a 'thank you' from the waitress. Food is average taste, not bad. Aoli ssuce is a bit too sour. A shame on its way of doing business.
Liksya
My ultimate advice to viewers, read thru the reviews before coming.<br/><br/>Been here for our anniversary. We had Tbone and Surf and Turf.<br/>Flavor? AWEFULLY BLAND<br/>Price? Very expensive. Not worth it due to Bland food<br/><br/>But the worst of all is the Service? WORST STAFF in any Denny's restaurant.<br/><br/>
Lyvie
1 point for opening until late<br/><br/>-Unfriendly waitress.<br/>-Forgot to give me my water when I asked.<br/>-Prices are not decent for what you are getting.<br/>-Just eat somewhere else.
Sapphire Crystal
I'm surprised they still operating despite so many unhappy customers and negative reviews.either they not reading these reviews or they have a really thick skin where they don't give a toss about what customers think or how they feel.time to hand down the management to someone else who has a better knowledge of the business strategy.
Breeze Brown
I have been here a few times.... and all the people that work there put on a fake smile to serve you then walk away miserable they take ages just to serve you , and a long time to just come back and when you want to ask for something they say 1 min but more like an hour.... me and my partner showed up and the lady at the front saw us sitting there first , then some other couple just walked in and she goes to the front straight away and serves them before us. one waitress tried to rush my order. and others just pretend like they don't see that you want there attention ! leave us a card for our experience there on the tables but you can tell it doesn't get changed regularly because there is old food on it and for starters there's no pen to fill it out. 60-70 dollars for two people I get the same order each time and mine is always suppose to come with free coffee , however I went one time I got asked for the first time not realising it was part of the mealfeeling ripped off from all this time not being offered free coffee!!!
Shay Richardson
Depending on what you order, some of their food can be quite hit and miss. A rare steak will be a medium and sometimes the price can be a little high. But they do have really good service, friendly staff and a lovely view out over the lake if you can manage to get a booth next to the window. I'd highly recommend their honey chicken, absolutely delicious every time I've ordered it.
Greg Brown
Two words........food poisoning! That is all. Try at your own risk. I'm shocked to see this place averages a terrible 2 in score, as it's a 1 at best. If I could choose zero I would have.
Sam J Shaw
This is not a place I recommend to anyone. The food doesn't taste the best and just sitting down you feel uncomfortable. The atmosphere isn't very good. I like the 80's / 90's buffet house style they were going for but the place is very unhygienic. The service is not the best either. I would eat again here if I was desperate.
Brooke Tokana
Came here for breakfast. Was really quiet and the lady was nice. Hot chocolate was okay nothing special but what do you expect eating at a diner. I really like how there is plenty of parking at dennys too. I ordered the Crack a jack which was nice. Your standard kiwi brekkie. Wouldn't order it again though. Also tried my friends French toast. Wasn't that nice but you get what you pay for. Large quantity for cheap price. It's really pretty to look outside too.
Jessica
There are only 2 things on the menu that I like and that's the chocolate milkshake & the hot fudge cake. If I wasn't so obsessed with the hot fudge cake I would never bother coming here. But my god it truly is amazing. Only bother coming here for a lunch night run to satisfy your sweet tooth since denny's is open really late.
Gunji Otaku
Appalled to see so many bad reviews for this place. really ? <br/>I've been here over 30 times whilst living in NZ and have never had a bad experience! <br/>The menu is varied and has plenty to chose,  they mix a great Whiskey and coke, and they have the BEST deserts menu in the country. We've gone in just for desert at random hours of the day many times. 24/7 access to pancakes and cream? yes please.<br/>Lots of people complain about the service, mainly racist people with really bigoted opinions of people. <br/>The staff here have done an excellent job bringing our food, busy or not. they have Never mixed up an order (and given the 100+ orders my friends and family have made here that's impressive.)<br/>I personally order the lamb shanks, grand slam or one of the burgers when i go, often too full for desert due to meal size and taste, but if i could squeeze one in it would be lava cakes, or chocolate brownie. <br/>Don't be fooled, this place is cheap in price only.
Morgaaaan
I've come here probably a dozen times and the only reason I come back is because the food is simple, easy and taste good. Other than that, this place seems so moody all the time. One day we'll go in and have an awesome experience with some very lovely staff on deck. And the next week, we'll have staff serving that look like zombies, literally look like they have the hardest job in the world like they really don't want to be there. It's annoying bc they down the experience so much for customers, could do with some better staff! Some who actually open their mouths and speak to you.
Mrs Puddingcake
Pretty basic but sometimes that's all you need.<br/>Lots of parking, pretty clean and wasn't super busy when we went.<br/>Fairly average coffee, didn't have to wait too long, and quantity over quality. Generic and filling. We had the premium burger, omelette and grand slam. Desserts looked good but couldn't fit anything else in lol. Average but no doubt we will be back when we feel like curly fries.
Mike
Where does one Start !,Don't think the Heart Foundation would endorse this place nor the Health dept 2 adults and two kids dinning late lunch on s Sunday ,( all surfaces greasy and fabric on seats and carpets tacky ,and generally depressing decor !),hardly any one there ,,yet the initial service was slow ,and tardy ,they tried to fit us all into adult meals ,at those prices ,,until we asked for the kids menu !,all the food came out looked like it was pre frozen and microwaved and the spare ribs ,,was SPARE alright ,spot the meat!!,lathered in yucky bulk sauce ,salad was pathetic With it as well ,,the salads by them selves where only salads in name !,all shredded salad and not much else's ,yuk !,,this is a low rent ,place ,a relic from the past that hasn't transformed into a modern day Healthy option restaurant !,will not be even coming close to this dump ever again ....I feel sick even writing this review ,!,five star thumbs down !,<br/> <br/>
Sabrina Chae
I actually only come here for late night desserts when all other dessert places are either closed or jst too far away. Can't really complain much about the dessert itself, you get what you expect. The service can be better though. Glass of water shouldn't take that long. The servers always seems to be either depressed or exhuasted.
Lisa Reynolds
I haven't been here for some time and nothing has changed. The menu and decore are the same as many years ago.<br/><br/>When we arrived for an early dinner we were promptly seated. The service became slower as the Resturant filled up and the waitress apologised for the delay, when our deserts arrived.<br/><br/>I ordered the Chicken Fajita, because I'd had it before and liked it. The rest of the family had kebabs and kids nuggets with curly fries and drinks. The food was all OK and the Fajita was exactly as I remember it.<br/><br/>We had two apple pies with ice cream and the kids had single scoop Sunday's.<br/><br/>At just over $100, I did feel that it was overpriced and would like to see them introduce all inclusive children's meals with a small drink and desert.
Lovely Maralit
I like the buffalo wings and curly fries. The service is alright. Everything resembles American style. I think attentive servicing is needed.
Zena Cataleya
I ordered the chicken burger and was disappointing, The chicken is store bought and it wasn't worth it. Other places offer better burgers for cheaper. The staff was attentive at first but later on it took longer for us to get their attention.  I would not return, the food isn't worth it.
Joshy
Actually the poorest place ever... haha..<br/><br/>Went there last week, ordered some smoothies.<br/><br/>Smoothies were powdery and actually tasted like dirt.<br/><br/>After one sip, I couldn't drink any more of it, so politely asked the waitress if they can possibly taste it and see if its supposed to taste this shit.<br/><br/>She refused to taste it and said that 'It is home made, its a secret recipe and I cannot tell you what's in it, but I'm sure it's supposed to taste like that. A lot of people like this recipe."<br/><br/>.......?????????????
Toru Tres
Poor service. Woman at the door not happy to welcome us. Food are average and still no customer service when the lady serve them on the table. <br/>Checkout lady again, poor customer service and seems like she didn't want to be there. Im not coming back here ever again.
Shelbz
The food here is adequate.<br/>The buffalo wings are always good to have and the fettuccini carbonara.<br/>The food is the standard you could probably easily make at home.<br/>It's a good place to eat if your wanting home style cooking but can't be bothered doing the cooking tonight.
A Tale Of Two Tummies
Food ordered:<br/>Millennium Burger w/ Curly Fries<br/>Chilli Fries<br/>Fettucine Bolagnaise<br/><br/>Bill: $45.30<br/><br/>Big tummy: I've been to Denny's sporadically for like the past 15 years and I guess if I've learned anything during this time, it's that you really need to stick with what they do well (fries, burgers, desserts are the three things that come to mind). If you want a nice steak or quality seafood or something, why are you coming to Denny's? Go to a proper restaurant that specialises in those things.<br/> With this theory in mind, we tried to order things that are pretty hard to screw up and got more hits than misses. Firstly, the Millennium burger is great - it's two beef patties, heaps of cheese and red onion - it's basically a heart attack slapped between two greasy buns, but it's actually a really tasty burger. The curly fries that come with it (for $2.50 extra - which should be noted in the menu, not as a surprise on the receipt) are one of the things Denny's do sooooo well. Their curly fries are one of the reasons I bother going back. The chilli fries were sadly a bit of a fail. I've had them in the past and they've been good, but this time the chilli was ridiculously dry. Like you couldn't even scoop it up with the fries. The fettucine I was a bit hesitant to order, cause I could envision this coming out all kinds of bad, but it was okay. It wasn't oozing with flavour, and the side salad was seriously lacking in any semblance of taste (even with the dressing), but the actual fettucine bolagnaise gets a passing C grade. We were too full to order desserts this time, but past experience has taught me that the Snowball and Hot Fudge Brownies are crazy good. <br/>Service wise, Denny's was a bit of a letdown. It took aaaaages for us to wave down a waitress to place our order (I dread to think how long we would have been waiting if we hadn't flagged her down). We also had a bit of a funny moment when the waitress brought us our cutlery. She didn't say a word or even stop at our table. She just walked past, ditching the cutlery on our table without even breaking her stride. It was seriously like out of a spy movie where the dude subtly drops the goods next to the other guy while walking past. My girlfriend and I both just looked at other wondering what that was about.<br/>All-in-all, I'll inevitably return again just for the things that Denny's does do well, but it'll just be next time I'm craving one of their burgers or desserts. <br/><br/>Little tummy: I hadn't been to Denny's before, but my boyfriend warned me that they can be a bit hit-and-miss. He ordered the burger and curly fries, so I ordered the fettucine thinking that it'd be something somewhat safe to order. The fettucine itself was okay, though it was lacking in taste, so I needed to drench it with ketchup. The salad that came with it was super bland. It was like coleslaw but without any taste. The chilli fries were too dry and the chilli looked as though it had either been over-cooked or left out for too long. My boyfriend's curly fries were amazing though - like my highlight of the meal. His burger was also good (he gave me a few bites... okay okay, I might've snuck a few bites hehe), though I thought it could've done with some sort of sauce. The service was kind of lacking too... it took sooooo long for somebody to take our order. I want to come back to try the desserts, but I probably wouldn't come back for the mains again anytime soon.

The spicy chicken was not spicy which caught me off guard a little because on the menu it says it's spicy. The chocolate mousse looked out of this world. Literally

I used to love dennys back in the day so I thought I might check it out again, service was slow, the food was average. I ordered the picante burger which was just a standard burger with a hot sauce and jalepenos and ended up paying $24 for this and a milkshake which is ridiculous. I could buy this with better quality from somewhere like burgerfuel the price does not justify the food.. Went to leave and stood at the till for a good 4-5 minutes waiting for someone to serve us while half the staff blankly stared at us. For a place with such a great location huge disappointment.

Oh dear..not great..had pork chops..got mainly a thick piece fat, family's meals weren't great either..the price was reasonable though..reflection of the food i guess, shame couldn't finish meal though. Dessert however was great.seating ok service good..probly wont go back, that goes for city dennys. .same kinda experience.

Slightly overpriced for what it's worth. Orders Surf and Turf with medium Sirloin. Meat was dry and over cooked, certainly not medium! Service is mediocre at best. Waiting far too long for a simple meal.

decided to stop by dennys for a hearty late night meal. the service was good from the ladies and the food was served within 15 minutes after ordering. i must say some of the items are way overpriced given the quality - specifically the 27 dollar meals. the end price was the same as what we would have spent at a high end restaurant when including starters, drinks and desserts. the meals were a bit bland but given it's a family restaurant which needs to cater to all palates, did not expect very flavoursome meals. the chocolate fudge cake desert was wonderful. would return again for the desserts and curly fries.

For a Denneys this one is not too bad. The service is excellent and if you are craving American style food this is probably as good as it gets on the North Shore

Should be cheap and nasty but it not its overpriced and nasty! In wairau valley there are options a plenty but for some reason ended up here even stranger I ended up here sober. Denny's has a time and a place but it's generally not week day dinner. Way to greasy and way to expensive for a burger and chips . Average is a bit of a complement

Service is really bad and the food is way too overpriced for what is presented. The only good thing about Denny's are the curly fries and their chocolate milkshake. Other than that super disappointing.

I used to come here every now and then until I came across a cockroach in the most disgusting salad I've ever purchased - it also happened to be one of the most expensive things on the menu! It was a bland chicken salad that tasted absolutely disgusting. It put me off this place and I haven't been back since....<br/><br/>The curly fries and greasy desserts are the only thing I'll ever purchase again from here (AND ONLY IF I'M HUNGOVER WITH CRAVINGS I CAN'T DENY).

The only place on the shore where there are affordable curly fries. The other food is all very average. Tastes like what you would buy at the frozen section of the supermarket

Argh Denny's cheap n cheerful but can't quite replace Cob n Co, got good service from the staff but the older lady who takes your money well she could do with some hospitality training but she probably owns it. Decor a bit shabby but who cares when your hungry right.

We visited Dennys this evening. There was a large group of people with a number of children. The children were running and stomping around the restaurant screaming and playing hide and seek. When we asked if something could be done about it we were told we couldn't. Even though the waitress also expressed her annoyance towards the children stomping around. Other people in the restaurant also complained but nothing was done. Very unimpressed.

It was pretty horrible. Want a refund. Staff were rude. And my food was awful. Don't think I'll be back. Just let me down really. Got nothing nice to say about it.

Very good food - MY BURGER LOOKED LIKE THE PICTURE.<br/>Lovely service and friendly atmosphere.<br/><br/>We sat overlooking the pond and watched the ducks, which just made the experience a whole lot more pleasant :)<br/>

A good ol Dennys breakfast is just what you need on a Sunday morning. This Dennys has delicious smoothies and yummy fast food breakfasts. It is very basic, but sometimes basic is great!

Will never go back to this Denny's again. This was the worst meal we have ever had and I was so embarrassed as it was to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. Food over cooked, coffee cold, but the worst thing was the crockery was not clean. Visited 15.3.2014

Went to Denny's last night with family and won't be returning. Probably the worst meal out for along time. Even with a deal voucher a waste of money and time. Denny's needs a revamp to their restaurant which was filthy. Just look under the tables and on the carpet. Needs a new menu and chef. Staff just do their job and not very friendly.

A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!! Went to Denny's North Shore last night to celebrate Father's Day with hubby &amp; our 3 teenage sons, although it was busy as you can imagine...after waiting maybe 5mins we were seated at our table. We found the total experience from start to finish excellent &amp; an enjoyable night to remember. Our waitress was attentive &amp; patient as we all took a little while to make up our minds from an absolute delicious &amp; variety in menu. I went with the Nasi Goreng (like a light fried rice dish with shrimp &amp; chicken) gorgeous! Hubby had the Salmon Dinner- the Salmon was cooked to perfection &amp; also a lovely shrimp cocktail. Sons 1. a Fettucine Bolongaise &amp; a BLT- both of which looked &amp; he said tasted great! must have been there was nothing left behind on those plates Lol..Son 2. had the Millenium Burger&amp; fries which looked &amp; again must've tasted great! Son 3. had the Chicken Curry which came with side salad/rice &amp; a really yummy chrsipy bread which complimented well, oh &amp; plus a chicken burger, which again looked amazing. We also had the curly fries &amp; the Sampler- plate of crumbed deep fried chicken/seafood/onion rings/wedges, all the food was excellent &amp; served hot &amp; all within the same time with another waiters assistance which was amazing!!!Yes! we kinda went all out on this visit &amp; it was so worth it..there was extra food left over from our side orders which we were able to take home and given food containers a plastic bag to take them in. 2 Deserts- Hot Fudge Cake &amp; the Pancake Mone both left the boys with even bigger smiles on their dials Lol. A tip was given to our waitress when we left, we were so happy with our service from all staff involved on this evening. This was our first time dining out at Denny's apart from an early morning visit to the Manukau branch with my hubby after a big night out on the town, around 19yrs ago when we were visiting from Wgtn. We used vouchers as partial payment on this visit received from hubby's employer, no problems there, I did let the waitress know about this before we dined. 5 Stars..Cheers Denny's NS thanks for the great &amp; enjoyable evening!!! : ))

I visited Denny's North Shore in April this year, and was not impressed with the poor service I received after taking two buses from central Auckland.<br/><br/>To start with, the wait staff were sullen and unfriendly. One waitress mixed up my appetiser order, and, when the wrong plate was delivered to the table, said nothing, but picked up the plate and walked off with it. Where was her apologetic, "I'm very sorry about that, sir; I'll have the correct dish brought out straight away."?<br/><br/>When my onion rings did arrive, the manager brought them and, like her subordinate, said nothing, not even an "Enjoy your meal." My main course and dessert went well - and all the food was well-prepared - but paying at the cash register was a less-than-pleasant experience. The cashier seemed to have little or no grasp of English and couldn't explain what she wanted me to do. Unfortunately, this is a common theme at Denny's and hinders what could be a potentially great dining experience. I certainly won't be going out of my way to make a return visit to Link Drive.

We go to Denny's regularly for dessert. We always order the hot fudge cake, and I get the choc brownie thing with peanut butter in the middle. Their desserts are consistent and good, for a cheap dessert. <br/>Can't comment on their food, as we never eat here other than dessert, but too be honest probably won't ever eat a meal here.

Went to Dennys North Shore on Valentines Day for dinner. Wow, it was super busy, and after only a 10 minute wait we were seated.<br/><br/>The only sour note was the lack of a fork for myself, and no help from the wait staff.<br/><br/>The food was excellent, the service, apart from that one hiccup, was awesome, and we had a great night.

Not a good dining experience! Arrived nice and early, there were 5 in our group and ordered our meals. Waited an hour to be served..only to find that one of our orders had gone to another table and so only 4 out of 5 meals came at once! The other one still had to be cooked! (this is after waiting an hour) Needless to say, one complained to manager and this meal was not charged for. Sevice was appalling throughout the evening. We noted that guests that arrived and ordered after us, were served before us! The food once it did eventually arrive tasted ok, but not a good experience. Will we be going back? Ah NO!

Arrived and several minutes to be noticed and seated.<br/>Waiter walked passed table and dumped menus on the table and walked away. Food arrived approx 26 minutes tbh i should have gone to KFC. Restaurant was cuttlered with displaced furnature and had a glass panel sitting across from us not very tidy. Overall score of 2/10

Went to Dennys North Shore on Christmas day, we agreed to the $5 surcharge per person. I already had my breakfast at McDonald, only my husband and my son would be eating, so we were expecting to pay $10 surcharge. But I was told that I had to pay $5 surcharge eventhough I was not eating. We walked out straight away. This is crazy. Very dissapointed.

On Saturday night 28/06/14 I went with my family to Denny's for the first time, it was really busy, the food was a bit late but it was cooked well and tasted very nice. My son was being naughty due to the time we had to wait but a lady which appeared to be the manager brought over a activity sheet with a pencil to keep him busy, she also asked if we wanted the kids meal first which was excellent! When I went to pay our bill, I offered a $10 tip to her for her excellent customer service but she refused to take it and she said the best tip you can give me is if you come back to our restaurant again. I promised her I will return with my family again.......Excellent customer service and I would highly recommend this restaurant to every one - 5 Star service -

Very disappointed. Used to come to Denny's once in a while for fast and easy food. Gotten poor service the past few times and some of the portions are getting smaller. <br/>DON'T order the Super Bird sandwich deal if you are hungry..we were served 2 puny pieces that don't even add up to a whole sandwich. On top of that the waitress spilled half of our curly fries before putting it on our table. She walked away as if nothing happened and we had to ask for replacement which the manager was nice enough to bring over herself.
