Review Treasure Kitchen - Waitakere City

Yen Luong
A small and humble restaurant tucked away among many restaurants just outside of West City. We've only been here once but the food was delicious and will be back to try more items on the menu. We also noticed on the window that they have a sort of Special-of-the-day deals which we saw someone order and was well worth the price for what they got. Another reason to return.

great food. we ordered one half of the entree options and the nasi lemak beef rendang. The highlights were the tofu salad (refreshing), fried chicken (unlike your regular fried chicken flavour), and beef rendang (moist and tasty). Forgot to take a photo of the rendang since we were excited and hungry.

Had a fantastic dinner here! Nice quality of foods, warm hospitality, very decent owner couple. Normally I don't travel all the way to the West only for a meal. Today because of friends highly recommend I took my action. I am a southeast flavor lover, this one has something beyond my expectations. Fish rice noodle soup is amazingly cooked. Fried Gui Diao brings my memory back in Hawker centre in Singapore. Reasonable price, authentic Malaysian foods, definitely come back again for more!

Pretty good, above average but there's better Malaysian in town

Great Malaysian and indo asain food - 10 out 10. Would recommend. Great service and even greater food.

Ordered through Uber eats. Loved the curry puffs and the pork wontons. They were fresh and delish. The char kway teow was a nice big portion and delicious. Didn’t get to taste it as partner loved it too much to share. My Nasi Lemak curry was yummy. I just wanted an authentic Malaysian curry which this was but wayy too sweet for my liking. Will order again to try the rendang this time

I had the pleasure of dining at Treasure Kitchen, and I must say, the name truly does justice to this hidden gem. The food they offer is nothing short of a culinary treasure - each dish was a delightful experience for the taste buds. What truly stood out was the warm and homey service that made me feel like a welcomed guest. If you're looking for a place that offers both delectable food and a cozy atmosphere, Treasure Kitchen is a true find.

The food is great. They have daily specials that are reasonably priced. It's a casual spot with help yourself tea and sauces. This is on my shortlist of lunch places when eating out in Henderson.

The place was packed and we had to wait for a table, but it was well worth it. The service is wonderful and the food is superb! They have $12 specials that change daily. The menu is extensive while they have the usual dishes you might expect, there are also a few dishes that a just a little bit special like the Thursday special, fishhead soup.

Im someone that can be quite hesitant to try different foods but I really enjoyed the meal that we had tonight. What makes it better is the staff, they are friendly and have a good sense of humour.

I gave it a second go after a less-than-impressive first experience last year. This time though, I ordered the char koey teaw, and was I impressed ? Yes, yes I was. It was tasty, generous with ingredients (at $16.50 a plate, if expect it to be!) and service was heaaaaaps better this time - despite the busy lunch time period. It's got the chu char- which is always a winning ingredient!

This has been my favourite food place for months now!! Almost every week I go here to dine in with my dad because of how tasty the food is and how great the service is. The chicken and salted fish fried rice is my go to meal. I've had the same dish at other restaurants but no one does it the way Treasure Kitchen does. My mum and brother are both vegetarian and love this place just as much as I do! Both my mum and brother usually make changes to dishes to sit their diets, but the staff here are always so cooperative and we really appreciate that. The service is lovely - never had a bad experience! :) I ordered through Uber Eats once and a member of the staff had called me to clarify a few things in terms of my order. I can tell you for a fact that they are just as helpful and kind over the phone as they are in person. Overall, 5/5 stars from me!

The chicken, fishball, tofu laksa was amazing - the flavours were well balanced. If you like a bit of spiciness, add on their condiments available near the counter.

The pad thai was tasty but found it quite salty so we asked for extra lemons to counter the saltiness. However, still didn’t really take away the saltiness.

Iced coffee ‘kopi’ homemade beverage was quite nice and refreshing. We also tried the soybean with grass jelly and that was also good on the tastebud, not too sweet which is how I like my drink.

Nice ambience and friendly staff 🙂

Been here many times. Curry laksa has always been my favourite. The taste was so authentic like eating back in KL. My first time ordering their chicken satay. The sauce peanut was really fragrant and you could taste the aromas in your mouth. The chicken was really tender and juicy.

Went to Treasure Kitchen a few months ago with colleagues and ordered a vegetarian nasi goreng. This was pretty good, and I was impressed with the value (given the sizeable portion). Based on this experience, tonight I decided to order uber eats from Treasure Kitchen for my family. We ordered the vege mee goreng, vege curry puffs, beef rendang, chicken curry, and roti. Sadly, the only thing we liked was the curry puffs. The mee goreng was sweet and lacked any other flavours. The curries were also bland. Everything except the curry puffs was super oily. The items were also overpriced (about $16-21 per meal). The staff are polite and accommodating though, and we appreciated the prompt delivery.

Awesome food and the picture should say it all. Food was on point . Roti Canai with the chicken curry made my day

Called in at Treasure Kitchen in Henderson for lunch. Staff were very friendly and we were lucky to get a table. I'd recommend the Spicy Noodle Chicken. My only feedback is the door to the restaurant needs urgent attention. We were freezing cold during our meal. The door has huge gaps and was constantly opening and closing.

Ordered the Chicken Curry Nasi Lemak with the Salt & Pepper Soft Shell Crab. Chicken Curry was okay, but had a lot of bones and the serve size was smaller than I was expecting. The Salt & Pepper Crab was delicious and I would highly recommend as a starter. Interior was clean and tidy. Staff were professional. On street parking available along Great North Road.

Overall was average food lower then our high expectations since we have been to some other Malaysian restaurants in NewZealand which do offer from
good options for Vegetarian dishes.
I ordered Uber eats and got the spring rolls and chicken pad Thai. The spring rolls were amazing!! The pad Thai was ok, had almost no chicken which was weird. I would definitely go back and try some of their other stuff

If you really missed msia food you can try it out. Not the most authentic but menu offers all that you often have back home. Stop your crave for a bit at least.

Went there for the first time yesterday for lunch and had hainanese chicken on rice. Thr chicken was tasty and good portion, heaps more compared to other places i have been. The gingery chicken rice was yum. The chilli dipping sauce was yum as well and there's a sauce table u can get refill your sauce. I would highly recommend trying this place. Wish I knew about this place sooner :)

We were recommended this place so decided to get takeaways. I got beef rendang. By the time the order came home the paper bag was soaked with oil that had leaked out the container. The roti was also swimming in its own paper bag of oil. The rendang still competed with the oil. I think it could have been nice with only 10% of the oil. Points for the other halfs padthai that he thought was good.

Suepr delicious food! Had Hainanese chicken as recommended and it was really tasty! 10/10 no doubt! My husband had nasi lemak with samba shrimp and beef rendang and it was yummy too! Both were huge serving! We also had crispy chicken as entree and the chicken was so crispy but juicy! A must try! Definitely coming back to try other dishes!

Just tried on urber eats. Spring rolls are amazing. Thought the price of bbq pork fried rice was expensive until i saw how much the serving was! Bbq portions needed to be larger but thats personal preference.

Pricey but worth it. The food and atmosphere were excellent. Just what we needed on a rainy night after a storm. Dinner at 10:30 pm? No problem here.

Having lived in Auckland for 3 years now, I remember first coming to Auckland and finding it near impossible to get authentic Malaysian food. However now it seems there are so many authentic Malaysian restaurants popping up all over the place, which is great to see.

Ordered a Wat Tan Hor and Chicken Laksa, impressive service time as the food came out in under 5 minutes. Filling and flavorsome I really enjoyed my Laksa, my friend who had the Wat Tan Hor wasn’t too impressed with his meal though, however, this seemed to be the exception rather than the norm.

Overall I was quite satisfied with my experience and would recommend Treasure for those who are after some authentic Malaysian cuisine.

Showstopper: Hearty Malaysian cuisine

Overall Grade: A-

Got recommended this place by a friend. So I have been wanting to come here for a while. It's says authentic Malaysian and I know I can't base my review on everything but what I did have was just average. We ordered pork and prawn sui mai and they don't make it anymore so I don't know why the just take it of the menu or cover it. So then we ordered a mee gorang, stewed pork belly and round beans with mince and black olives. So when the mee gorang came out I thought we were at an Italian restaurant coz it honestly tasted like spaghetti Bolognese without the mince. It was made up of spaghetti pasta tomato base sauce a bit of chicken and a little tofu. So the beans came out and were overcooked till it had a mushy consistency...fail then our pork came out and this is what I was looking forward to. A nice tender melt in your mouth pork belly. Yep what came out was chewy pork which was cooked in soy sauce and 5 spice with celery thrown in there. So at least we tried it now but probably won't be back in a hurry. The best thing we experienced from here was the great waitress

You want authentic Malaysian food? Treasure kitchen is the place to go!! I would know because I am a Malaysian myself and is always on the hunt for good Malaysian food that reminds me of home. Had the best dinner here. My partner ordered the Nasi Lemak with beef rending. I ordered the Yong Chow fried rice, and we shared a vegetable dish - Sambal eggplant with minced pork. Everything was 10/10 and so delicious!! One out of the best Malaysian food out West. The uncle serving us was so friendly too. Will definitely come back!

They also serve Chinese tea which is always a plus to cleanse the palate.

Treasure Kitchen is one of the best go-to Asian cuisine place in Henderson. If you're looking for delicious fried rice, crispy fried chicken and scrumptious siu mai, this is definitely an option! Our favourite 'after-work' meal consists of their Yang Chow Fried Rice, Crispy Fried Chicken, Siu Mai, and Red Bean Bun. Definitely a must try!

It's a nice little restaurant with huge selection of menu. Malaysian is one of my favourite cuisine and happy to have first one in Henderson. We chose our meal from $12 lunch special blackboard menu. My friend's honey chicken was bit too sweet, as she said. My Nasi Lemak with beef rendang was good. Good kick of hotness but I was expected that rice for Nasi Lemak to be coconut rice. I will come again and try some more.

Such awesome service and absolutely delicious food. The restaurant is an A grade. Food was out promptly and complimentary tea provided.
Awesome to have a yummy Malaysian restaurant in the area!
Sambal chicken was perfect!

I've been there twice this week with different friends. The food is very good and the price exceptionally good value. I like the four season bean and beef rendang particularly though others in our group equally enjoyed their choices. This is a Metro 2016 Top 100 Cheap Eats awarded restaurant. If you live out west you really need to try it out. It has simple decor though pleasant, and friendly staff. My friends drove from Northcote to try it out and are telling me we have better choices in the west for great value good food than they do! It's well worth a try.

First time visiting this small Malaysian restaurant in henderson which is a two minute walk from West City Westfield mall. The food was amazing loved everything we ordered. The outstanding dish was the Skrewers and chicken curry dipped in with Malaysian Roti bread mmmm 😍. If you're around the area you must try it! The food is sucelant and beautiful!
The price is reasonable too. I will be back again

Came back had other dishes too!! Love this place!!

Went in for lunch on a wed morning, good prices for lunch menu. Ordered the hainanese chicken, chicken fried rice for mains and chicken satay for appetizers.
Chicken satay had good flavour and was quick to be delivered to the table, only downside was the chicken was slightly too stringy.
The hainanese chicken had good flavor and well cooked, the accompanied rice was also well done.
The fried rice was bland but they had a assortment of oils and sauces to jazz it up
Overall the pricing is good and the food is above average, i would defiantly recommend this restaurant

If there is any malaysians or singaporeans living out in the west, this is the place to go when you miss home. The food is good and the service is friendly. Even the server that serves you speaks with our local lingo. Jenny the lady boss there is super friendly, so much so that we became regulars there.
It is rare to find Assam Laksa in Singapore or Malaysia, and even in Auckland, and to be able to find one that is delicious? This gotta be the place. The Hainanese Chicken Rice is superb too. So are the Rendang Beef.
Treasure Kitchen
Treasure Kitchen
ShareTweetPinMail
Review by Alexia.

Treasure Kitchen, great name. And what a treasure it is, in an area of town that so badly needs it. There are a few hidden gems amidst the $2 shops and dodgy takeouts of Henderson’s main street, and Treasure Kitchen possibly shines the brightest.

Opened only a few months ago, the chefs are Malaysian but one has spent ten years in Thailand and has become pretty fabulous at that style of cuisine, too. The menu is a mix of south east Asian flavours and while I usually find that off-putting, in this case they seem to be good at whatever type of food they turn their hand to.

We ordered Sambal Prawns ($18.50), Nasi Lemak with Chicken curry ($14.50) and Chai Xin ($12.50). All were excellent. The coconut rice in the NasI Lemak was everything it should be – creamy, soft and coconutty, there was a good balance of ikan bilis and peanuts (hate it when places are stingy with those) and the sambal had depth and great flavour. The chicken curry on the side had a decent kick and the chicken on the bone was tender.

The Sambal Prawns were sensational and I can’t wait to get back very soon to have them again. A decent serving of prawns fried in a great sambal sauce and served in a lettuce leaf. The Chai Xin was bright, fresh, perfectly cooked and with a good amount of shredded ginger and garlic to give it a lift. Why do my greens never look like that at home?

On a whim we decided to order the banana fritters ($4.50) to take out as we left. Great decision. Light, sweet and drizzled with just the right amount of caramel sauce, we were thrilled. There may or may not have been a small tussle over the last one.

Treasure kitchen is indeed a treasure in West Auckland. It ain’t glam but it’s a pleasant enough environment to eat some really great food. Go immediately before everyone finds out.
