Review Halong Vietnamese Restaurant - Waitakere City

Phillip T
Very good value for money. For what you pay for, you get a good portion in return. Especially good for late night dinners. Tried quite a few dishes now, and no complaints. All decent sized dishes with flavors that match. Always a favorite when I'm in the area. About 25pp

Great food. Good portions relative to price. Wide ranging menu. Casual vibes. Nice & clean. Service was great. 2 mains both with rice, a side of veges & 2 of the specialty drinks cost us $75. Left full & happy. Great place to catch up with friends - didn't need to book we just walked in.

We recently visited Halong for my Mother's birthday. The food was great, however I am on a keto diet and feel they didn't have other options like salads to accompany the meat or had to pay way more for a side of Bokchoy. I ended up eating my family's garnishes with their meals as I was still hungry. Service was really good but they did forget 2 dishes so we had to remind them and they bought food out as soon as asked. A very popular place as people were going in and out collecting takeaways and having a seated meal. My kids loved the fried rice, dumpling soup and chicken wings.

We had a beautiful dinner tonight with our NZ family! The only downfall was the hair my wife found in the wonton soup đŸČ🧐 But the staff replaced it and took it off of our bill (free) Flavourful and tasty rice noodles combination wonton and also the pork trotters! Authentic Vietnamese. 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Quickfire service and awesome food. This is a favourite quick lunch stop for us. Good sized portions so you'll never leave hungry. Reasonably priced too. Some of the weekday daytime clientele are 'interesting' - but mainly families and and the like in the evening and weekends.
Lilian Monaghan
Food was so good and the portions were big. Fast service and friendly staff!

As my daughter always says: if all other places fails, Halong prevails!!! Food is always great and wait time is never long!!! Staff is always helpful and attentive to our needs! It has and will always be our go to place if we are unable to decide where to go and eat!!! Never disappoints!!!
Areta Taihuka
Food was ok n service was good though there was an issue with our payment as he didn't give everyone of us, who had paid, a receipt, so accused us of not paying for a meal and it took 20 minutes to sort it out, which was hoha đŸ€Ș

Favorites for my family are lemon grass chicken on rice & soup options, most of the entrée menu, beef stew on rice & soup, pig trotters on rice & roast pork on rice. Fast service, good customer service, fresh food & yummy dish options. Reasonable prices for the portion of food you get.

Definitely not authentic Vietnamese I must say. But if you are looking for a fusion of Vietnamese and Chinese food, it’s pretty good. The restaurant is spacious and clean, I like the relax atmosphere and the fast service. The beef noodle “phở” has a very similar taste compared to authentic one, if you would like to try some authentic Vietnamese here.
Piers Kwan
Simple set up but the food was fantastic. The beef soup had generous chunks of beef and the noodle salad was delicious. Serving sizes were more than adequate.
Jan Thompson
Consistently tasty food, ready in minutes. Love the beef stew with a generous helping of their chilies (one of the free condiments offered on each table). Super warming food on these colder days if you enjoy Asian style cuisine.

Great spring rolls and good value for money

Porkchop for lunch - unfortunately I can’t join @Denny Setiawan for lunch here but he managed to takeaway this yummy fried porkchop. Next time I will definitely go there to try another dishes.

Our favourite spot for vietnamese! Food is always fresh and fast at a great price. I regularly order the lemongrass chicken on rice but the wonton soup is also a favourite of mine. A nice place to go with a few friends and sample the menu, the fact it's usually always busy is a testament to how good the food is.

Everyone had been craving KFC, McDees..etc...over the lockdown period, whereas I've been 'dying' for my absolute favourite Halong mouth watering cuisine

Eat. The. Pork. Chop! It's great, it's amazing. It's a must! Hands down best I've ever had, seriously đŸ˜¶

Our 1st time trying this place thanx to a subscriber & oh man they did not disappoint. We luved the spring rolls with the lettuce & the lemon grass chicken was delicious!
Violet Sakura
Loved their food and the prices were quite reasonable, the service was great which made a big impact on our experience, the staff were all respectful, smiley and quite cute! definitely a all time favourite of my friends and family❀❀Can't wait to visit again.

Favourite Vietnamese eveeeer! I love Halong! We always come by here for dinner! The best pork and rice! Duck and rice! And chicken and rice! Yum! <br/>

Best vietnamese restaurant in auckland. My landlord invited me and my family to this restaurant and after that we always come here to have vietnamese noodles. My favourite is Pork Chops with egg noodles - dry. #halongvietnamese #noodles #foodie #foodporn #restaurant

Stunning service by the team at Halong. My friends and I come here all the time and we’re always absolutely amazed by the quick turnaround provided by the staff under 4 minutes (attached). The food arrives very fast and is fresh. This place is highly recommended and is THE best Vietnamese restaurant in Auckland.
Aless
One of my go-to restaurants when I want, both, a filling and cheap meal. Service is very quick and the meals are delicious! Highly recommend!

Yes yes yes, I love Halong. It is my GO-TO! I have been coming to this delicious establishment for around 15 years and still crave it.<br/>It’s Vietnamese good is soooooo good<br/>So fast and great pricing<br/>It is way better than the so called “best” Vietnamese our in otahuhu!<br/>The menu is very extensive and they cater for annoying patrons like me who now and then don’t eat carbs.... if you’re this way inclined- ask for a vermicelli bowl but with salad instead of the noodles... it’s YUM!<br/>
Sam Song
One of my favourite places to eat at! Haven't ordered a lot of the dishes, but what I've had, I've loved! My personal favourite dish is the spicy pork chop fried rice. Absolutely delicious :)

Simply wow!<br/><br/>Crispy pork done properly where the outside of the pork is crispy well the fat in the inside melts in the mouth. No this isn’t your fancy dining experience. You come here for one purpose. That purpose being some wholesome food at a relatively budget friendly restaurant. <br/><br/>We picked up a meatball pho with crispy pork and noodle soup. Our meals came out in record time, and we were stuffing our faces within 15 minutes. <br/><br/>Showstopper: Crispy pork was fantastic<br/><br/>Overall Grade: A-

So I came to halong for Good Friday it was a steady night and wasn’t all that busy. People were friendly arriving and although my family were annoying at ordering he was calm and new what he was doing. But one thing I had a problem was with we asked 3 of the waiters to bring us water and none did so. We ended up having to get our own in a fridge which was rather annoying. <br/><br/><br/>The food on the other hand was pretty dang good! The spring rolls were great and guys YOU HAVE TO EAT IT WITH LETTUCE!! It is amazing. <br/>I ordered the pork chop and lemongrass on rice and it was great!!! The drinks were not very good it needed to have a more acidic or fruitier taste to it. It was just super sweet and that’s it! <br/><br/>Thank you Halong will probably be back again <br/>

This place has always been my family's go-to for every occasion. The pricing is pretty decent for the portions of food that you receive and the food comes promptly after ordering. The food itself has never disappointed, and all the rice dishes come with a complimentary soup thats delicious! The sauces that come with the meat and entrées go well with them and there are a variety of traditional asian drinks to choose from the menu. For a family of 4, it only costs ~$60-70 which is relatively cheap for great tasting food. If you want more bang for your buck, Halong is the place to go :)

Our go-to place when my wife and I are craving for Vietnamese food or just really hungry! Quick to serve the food and they're really good and tasy too! Good serving size and price is just right.
Tommyzo
Food is always served super quick yet super fresh and tasty. Price is reasonable. Wide variety of selection is available. Nice to have a menu with all the photos for anyone who isn't so familiar with Vietnamese food. Overall 5stars!
Bianca Ratima
Cheap and cheerful. Good tasting food at foodhall pricing. Soups noodles and rice dishes. Token Vietnamese spring rolls and starter options too

Booked this place in advance for a gathering of 31 people. When I arrived lady serving us was shocked to hear we wanted to sit altogether?? Which I found weird. Because thats why I made a booking in ADVANCE. The same lady serving us rushed to take our orders making it so confusing when all the orders came out and she couldn’t keep up with who had what meal. The guy helping her serve our food had earphones in the whole time and mumbled most the orders. Got most of our orders wrong brought out sooo much extras that WERENT ours and then overcharged us by millions. When we brought it up the at the end the lady quickly swiped my dads card and waved us off. So rude. Lucky my dad was nice and didn’t care too much. Food was average, little more on the bland side. Will not be coming back here would probably go to hansan restaurant inside new Lynn mall next time.
Aneta Chadderton
Service was fast and efficient, I was highly recommended Halong by a family member that goes to Halong every time they are in Auckland. Was sadly a tad disappointed as the flavours were slightly lacking for us compared to other vietnamese restaurants I have been to in Auckland. Portions were big and we did enjoy the springrolls. Unfortunately found hair in our meals â˜č
Joe Broseph Hurst
Ordered duck with pho. With duck on the side. Duck came out very cold had to send it for heating. They gave me pork pho just by assumption but I'm not a fan of pork? Could have specified or asked..
Ashleigh Allport
Favourite place to get a hot fresh meal on a cold night. Super fast and great service. The pricing is not bad. We love the lemongrass chicken and can't go wrong with the wontons and spring rolls, nice and crispy not soaking in oil.
Crystal
Come here all the time with my family and friends. Good place to catch-up with friends. Food is delicious and prices are reasonable. Portion sizes are also good sized and very fulfilling, I would recommend this place to all! Love the choice of music too đŸŽ¶
Misavour
Cheap, casual and super fast. If you’re looking for something no fuss and you’re not too worried about getting the full on Vietnamese flavour experience than this is a good option. Nothing wrong with this place, it’s tasty enough to have a cheap night out but don’t expect to be blown away. I come here every now and then when I can’t be bothered cooking and feeling like Vietnamese rice noodle salad with spring rolls.
Trent Thomsen
The food is good and very well priced. I went with my wife, sister and brother in-law, and we all enjoyed the food an service although the mains came out before the entrées and we were left waiting for a couple if dishes before we could eat. Otherwise a very pleasant experience. Worth a visit if you have never been there.<br/>
Kchuth380
Went there the first time today and I must say that I was not disappointed. I had the wonton noodle soup which was absolutely delicious. The spring rolls were great as well. The portion size was just alright for me.The service was quick and friendly. I would definitely visit if was in the area again .
Hangrygirl
The portions here are small compared to other cheap Vietnamese places (meat wise) they put hardly any meat on the meat and rice dishes. Spring rolls are tasty!! I wouldn’t come back here but it’s a good cheap eat I guess and the service is always quick
Jgurl
Great service. As soon as we were seated we were given menus and water. Theyre serving size is less greater than the portions of meat they provide at Hansan on the meat and rice dishes. <br/><br/>Menu prices have updated too.
I_like_pickles
Not the best Vietnamese I've had. It is owned by Chinese people do not that authentic. The prices are your average prices for Vietnamese. I personally wouldn't come back here, there is a Hansan in New Lynn mall which is slightly better. <br/><br/>The service was good and the food came out fast. They had condiments but the chicken was too dry and lacked flavour.
Jaws The Tastler
Portion is good at the pricing. not the best Vietnamese taste but good enough for the neighborhood. Service level should be bit more polite when customer is trying to give answer to the question.
Gnxsta23
Always a good feed from here!! Had dinner tonight takeaway we ordered over the phone for pick up, never disappoints Lemon grass chicken with pork chop on ginger rice and fried spring rolls 10/10
Praneal Badal
I have to concur with other reviews on the dryness of the meat and the lack of sincere stock flavor. I had the beef stew and egg noodle with deep fried chicken as a side. That deep fried chicken was great.  Make use of the sauces to add further depths of flavor. Nice portions so go hungry. The offering of a sorry looking side salad of sprouts  was replaced as requested with a fresher option. Friendly staff, neat place requiring hand- paper dispenser in washroom.

This place has been in New Lynn longer than the competition at brickworks. Nice to see they have tidied the interior up a bit since my last visit a few years ago. <br/>We had to seat ourselves and were served water straight away (which was much needed as it was hot as hell inside)<br/>Ordered crispy pork rice noodles, roast duck rice noodles and spring rolls. <br/>All arrived super quickly, (how they do it so quick? I dont know!) The stock in the soups were much tastier than ones I have had at other Vietnamese restaurants yet still needed the added flavour and spice from the provided sauces. The pork was a little dry but once put into the soup added some hydration enough to eat. The spring rolls were my favourite part so crunchy and served with super yummy sauce. <br/>The servings were huge and I couldn’t finish mine. <br/>B was very pleased so we will be back!

Im a lover of lemon grass chicken noodle soup so I visited Halong for my vietnamese fix. I ordered bbq pork chop fried rice, lemon grass chicken noodle soup, and the vietnamese deep fried spring roll. Prices ok about $35-40 for two mains and a side for two people. The restaurant was clean and service was fast. I liked the fried rice however unfortunately it wont be first choice for vietnamese food
Josephine Ogle
It's not a pretty place but if you have a cold, their beef broth soup will fix you right up. Great food served ugly. If you're not pretentious and want something that just tastes good, these guys will sort you out.
Hyeon Sung
We got beef pho, dumplings and beef fried rice. Iced coffee tasted like korean coffee ice cream. Dumplings were so crispy and fried rice was great too. <br/>

By far the best Vietnamese food place ever! Definitely my go to whenever I’m feeling like foreign food! Always amazing time after time. They certainly never disappoint. Have been coming here for years and will continue to do so. Love it so much! Btw their spring rolls and fuckn bomb!!!!!!!!!
I'm A Foodie
We've been here several times. This time I came here with some friends. There are always enough seats in this restaurant so u don't need to worry about no seats. I ordered fried spring rolls vermicelli and pork chops with lemon grass chicken on rice. The food is always tasty.
YuYu
Visited here today for my first time. The restaurant was pretty empty, only one other couple. The food came out fast but the girl serving had terrible customer service. No smile, quite rude and just seemed like she didn't want to be there. The iced coffee we also ordered was hot?! Food was quite average and spending $40 for two people, you can definitely get better food and service elsewhere.<br/>Was not a great first impression and I wouldn't recommend this place based on today's experience.<br/><br/>2019 update: came here again and ordered Hainanese chicken rice and it was amazing! So much flavour and the portion was quite big. Service was a lot better when I came this time as well.
SL
Tidy but plain decor<br/><br/>The best lemon grass chicken for only $12<br/>I got half pork chop and half lemon grass chicken this time around. <br/><br/>Friendly staff.
Jeffie
Just came in for lunch and had the chicken rice noodle soup. It came out fast, it was very tasty, I really enjoyed it. Ambience and service is standard.
Ravi
The customer service service is awesome with a good location. The atmosphere is perfect for dining in. They have a quick service. We were surprised at how fast our orders came through. Two of us friends ordered roast duck on rice. We absolutely loved it.
Charmaine
Best pho I've had in Auckland recently. The stock is more beefy than other places, and the noodles are actually translucent! <br/><br/>The deep fried wontons here is so light. Sometimes when you order this elsewhere, the skin is so hard that you cut yourself biting into it. Not here. It's so soft and light but still so so crunchy. The filling is so soft and enjoyable too.<br/><br/>My new favourite Vietnamese place in Auckland.
Meah Hivana Tulisi
Service was really good and the food came out really fast! Food is nice and affordable. Love the feel of the place and would defiantly come back again soon.
Pooja Karan
My partner and I come here just for the lemon grass chicken. The pork belly is always too dry. The spring rolls are lacking flavour. That is why we stick to the lemongrass chicken. Dont expect much from staff when u go here
Aimee
Duck was amazing! And loved fried spring rolls. Would recommend the lemongrass chicken or pork chops on rice to anybody, this is must try if you are ever in the new Lynn area.<br/><br/>Will definitely be visiting again!
TheMʌverick
Yeah nah. Food is average at best, prices are set a bit higher than other restaurants that offer similar food. I mean the pork on rice is $12 and what you get is a container filled to the brim with rice and thin slices of dry and brittle pork meat. You can get the same dish for $10 & $9 at BBQ Hut and BBQ House who are by far superior. The thing I've noticed with this place is that their quality in food tends to diminish if you're ordering takeaway, dining in however I saw a huge difference in quality for some reason. Nice location though
Blackpearl
They serve the best pork chops on rice everrr! It'a our favourites in Auckland, and we always make sure to order their wontons too, it's just sooo yummy! I don't know about their other dishes because I've always order their pork chops whenever I come here. Just can't resist them hahaa.. don't ever change the recipe please!
Benedict Uy
Stopped by for a late dinner and had the pork chops and the special beef egg noodle soup. The pork chop was nice and crisp and had nice flavour. It was quite disappointing that the beef noodle soup wasn't the same. The soup was quite bland and the noodles a bit overcooked and soft. The beef and beef balls were ok.<br/><br/>Service was quite good and the meals came out really fast. I was also quite surprised how busy they were considering it was a Tuesday evening. A nice place for a cheap meal but it may be hit and miss.
Charles
i dined in, ordered a lemon grass chicken pho (soup) and the meal was delicious. a week later (yesterday) i ordered the same but take away. unfortunately i got food poisoning and cant keep anything down :((<br/>the atmosphere is really nice and has fast/top service. they even have free tea which<br/>is a mega plus when it comes to vietnamese restaurants. maybe just dine in :/

Came here with my family last week. We ordered 3 main meals. We were served straight away and our food was out within 10minutes. Reasonable prices and very friendly staff
Miura Elikana
This place is clean and has standard seating arrangement. The service is fast and friendly. I ordered the Hainanese Chicken which was enjoyable. My cousin ordered the combination meal which he devoured. He said it was full of flavour but thought the sausage was strange. My brother ordered the wonton soup and was pleased it had plenty of wonton. This place was good but I feel the food was pretty standard. It's reliable service and food.
Vinmanrules
In my experience the good was a little average and tasted bland. Nothing I ordered excited the taste buds. I would give this place a try and your results may vary.
Anne Cook
Been going here for years. They are just fantastic. Negatives.... NONE. Positives ...YUM. Love this place and their food. Had many celebrations here. Always great service. Thanks guys
Nathalie
All my friends seemed to love this place however for me it's very average. Simple cheap eats restaurant and menu is great lots to choose from it's a mixture of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. Quality of dishes was average. We ordered vermicelli noodle and I'm pretty sure the noodle we got were not vermicelli as the texture was very similar to spaghetti. Despite the food staff are great and service is prompt. If you are into cheap eats and not to fuss about the food then this place is for you
Charlene Weaver
I came here tonight for the first time with my mum and we both really enjoyed our meals! Inside is very clean and tidy and the menu is super affordable. <br/><br/>Typical of any other Vietnamese restaurant there's hoisin, sriricha and chilli sauce on each table, plus a small bowl of complimentary spring onion soup with each meal. We ordered the spring rolls to share, lemongrass chicken and pork spare ribs on ginger rice (instead of white), and the crispy pork with rice noodle soup. <br/><br/>The spring rolls were great, crispy on the outside and not too oily. I loved the lemongrass chicken, they use chicken thigh with the skin on, so the chicken is tender and juicy with a crunchy skin. I also like how we were able to swap normal white rice for haianese/ginger rice which is so much more flavourful. I liked the rice noodle soup however I can see why some people would find it quite bland, it did taste similar to the broth of the free soup, however I personally like my soup light like this. The crispy pork was so crunchy and moreish. <br/><br/>At only $12 for a main, this place is great value for money and offers very tasty Vietnamese cuisine, definitely worth a visit.

Just arrived back in Auckland and tried this resto because of friend's recommendation. Ordered lemongrass chicken, pork chop, fried rice, all good in taste and very generous in portion. Did try the pho and its very nice. Recommended and would love to come back.
Lana Maria Lazarevich
Great price, great food - average location and aura but it's one of our go-to's when we want an honest meal that's not too naughty. Pork chops and bok choy are always 100% amazing.
Stephen
Really great little place, cheap, fast, clean and friendly. We ordered soup, chicken curry, 2 servings of fresh spring rolls, wontons and drinks for $45..there was only 2 of us ans totally full ans still food left over. Would recommend to all...will be my go to place for a good bowl of noodle soup
Mikey Led
This place is always busy and I think it probably because they have massive portion sizes. I usually have their Beef and Rice Noodle Soup ($11) which is always nice with a good broth.
Ethan Liaw
Food here is like your normal home cooking dining out. Food serving is generous and price is very good. My pork cutlet and lemon grass chicken on A VERY large serving of rice and it even came with soup for only $12.50!! <br/>Gf had lemon grass chicken with rice noodles. The soup base was the same as my free soup; so she wasn't very impressed by that, as it just taste of artificial chicken msg. <br/>Would def come back when I am too lazy to cook, food is above average but nothing to rave about.
Natasha Walsh
This is one of my favourite places to go for a quick dinner. The deep fried egg noodles are my favourite along with their spring rolls. The orders are always out so fast and the staff are always so welcoming. Everything I have had here has been delicious!
George Sio
I love this place, I can all ways trust Halong to provide my Vietnamese fix, don't be fooled by basic decor, the quality of food is where the money is. I recommend Starters with bok choi and chicken wings or Spring rolls and for mains you can never go wrong with the Lemon Grass chicken on rice :) also try the lychee drink.
Rita Beckmannflay
Great food every time. Can order online or just turn up, tables seem to be available but usually always busy and a quick turnover of visitors :)

Woweeeeee this place is a little gem! Located opposite the big McDonald's off the busy streets of new Lynn. <br/><br/>A sign so bring you can see it glistening from miles awaaaaay, inside are hungry Vietnamese food lovers chowing down some authentic foods.<br/><br/>Now i haven't had much Vietnamese in my time but when the opportunity arose to eat here I was so excited. <br/><br/>I ordered the crispy pork on rice, it came within 19 minutes of placing my order to be exact. At first I was like ugh ? Has this just been re heated or what? Damn was I wrong. <br/><br/>Everything tasted fresh and had so much flavor, the pork was crispy and soft and melted in my mouth like butter. The rice was fluffy and beautifully place on the plate like a cloud. <br/><br/>If you can see in my photos there's a picture of a yellowish bottle at first I thought it was mustard (strange I know, like why would you put mustard on rice?) this bottle is the key to every sauce, idk what the hell it was but it was so good!!! That good I wanted to take it home with me haha jokes. <br/><br/>The service was great, lovely little Vietnamese ladies who bring out tea. I'm not to sure what the soup bowls were? I would have loved more vegetables but that's Algood the mountain of sauce made up for it. <br/><br/>I love this place!

I've never left a restaurant review before but I felt absolutely compelled to after eating here. One of the worst dining experiences I've had.<br/><br/>We ordered 4 items:<br/>- Raw Beef Pho<br/>- Hainese Chicken<br/>- Pork Chops with Rice Noodles<br/>- Hot Milk Tea<br/><br/>All 3 items were appalling. The beef tasted odd and the soup full of MSG-like flavour. The chicken was extremely bland and tough, probably boiled for hours with no seasoning. Rice was average. The "fried" pork chops were the worst, a fake bright red exterior and a thick, chewy, congealed layer beneath. We had to remove large thumb sized piec s of this  unappealing substance from a few pieces of the pork.<br/><br/>Definitely not freshly fried either, no crispiness, texture or flavour. Literally received our food within a few minutes of our order too...and even the tea was watery and it definitely wasn't Vietnamese style.<br/><br/>We ate a few bites and left, not because of the taste but we were genuinely worried about what they had put in the food. It all tasted very odd.

I chose this restaurant to take visiting relatives to.  I love Vietnamese food and this place seemed to have a lot of good reviews.  How, I do not know!  It was appalling.  Having been to Vietnam and eaten in many Vietnamese restaurants around the world, this was the worst I have experienced.  The food was beyond bland.  We ordered one of my favourite dishes, Lemongrass chicken on rice.  It had almost no flavour. We also ordered Beef vermicelli and Roast Duck on rice.  The duck was full of bones and the beef was completely void of any flavour.  We ordered fresh prawn rolls and fried spring rolls also. They were passable, but the dipping sauces were again flavourless.  <br/><br/>Although I can use chopsticks, my relatives could not and asked for cutlery. It was a mission to get them a fork each.  We also asked for a plate each to put our rolls on and were met with "a plate each?" It took ages to get the cutlery and plates.  Sharing dishes should always be brought out with plates for the diners as well. <br/><br/>A waitress walked by with trays in her hands and poured someone else's leftovers down my sister's leg and over her feet and then on a second pass by dropped someone's used serviette on my sister.  <br/><br/>The toilets weren't adequately separated from the eating area, or from the kitchen either really.  They need to put another door in to seal off the toilet area.  <br/><br/>If you want great Vietnamese food on a budget, head into Saigonz on Beach Rd in the City.<br/><br/>However, I'd be happy to pay more to get flavoursome, fresh authentic Vietnamese food and good service and go elsewhere.  Le Vietnamese Kitchen on Ponsonby Rd is 1000x better and only 20 mins from New Lynn.  <br/><br/>Wild horses could not drag me back to Halong in New Lynn.  Appalling.  I only rated it 1.5 (not zero) because the food came out in reasonable time and the price is cheap.
Graeme
The food is great and the price is good. The service is fast even though it's extremely popular. I would recommend the any dish with the pork chop or lemongrass chicken and the deep fried spring rolls are a must.
Amy Katherine Jones
I ordered lemon grass chicken vermicelli it was extremely tasty and for such big portions they have very reasonable prices, very happy with my order :-)
Adi Wardoyo
I had lemongrass chicken on rice. It was just so so. Service was fast. Price was oke for the size. Have not try the pho though. The place was clean, crowded but not full.
Sterling Ruwhiu
Come here often with family, and its always been fast service and yummy food. I just had lots of dental work done, and its hard to find good food when eating is painful!Ordered the lemongrass chicken egg noodle soup, and was extremely satisfied with the quantity and price ($12). Best of all, it didn't hurt my teeth in the slightest. Thanks for the tasty meal :)

I've been coming here for yeaaars and it is honestly one of my families favourite places to eat. The meal is relatively cheap and you get your meal really fast. There is a very short waiting time for your meal yet the food is so fresh and delicious. I've never experienced any problems here and I do go a lot! I highly recommend this place.
Casey
Really good food . Price is great for the portion's you get which are really generous. Service was good and food came out fast. So definitely be back again.
Claire Emily
so cheap and meal portions are huge! Really good food and it came out extremely fast. Around $12 for each main- worth coming here! Sunday night wasn't busy at all, large seating area. Great food and staff
Holly D-T
Love this place! My go to is the crispy pork on rice and the coconut nectar drink. I have been here a few times for a sit down meal and takeaway and been happy every time!
Prashant Patel
After waiting 15 minutes , had to remind staff to take orders still no luck, finally walked out after 30 minutes. Food smelled nice, pity couldn't taste it. The organisation looked chaotic. <br/>

Can't go wrong with this craving satisfaction after a basketball game. Too bad I had a migraine so I wasn't able to finish my meal. But still good. Soup was awesome, the service was quick. Not like I needed to expect a 5 star service after watching one if the waiters dance around with her phone and showing her workmates even though she saw me trying to call her to order. Turned me off there but the food was great!
Seamus M.
This place is really good if you want a taste of real and only Vietnamese dishes haere mai over to Halong.<br/><br/>Use to come here a lot but then prices went up and the portions went down.<br/>They're still good, with fresh ingredients.<br/><br/>Update: very nice! still the same yummy and delicious Vietnamese dishes. Love their beef stew! Their wanton are the best soft crunchy deliciously good, and Spring rolls! Esp their fresh rolls.
Supreet Kaur
I'm so glad I found this place. It's cheap, tasty and really fast! The lemon grass chicken with vermicelli and salad makes for a pretty filling and healthy lunch. Their dine in service was a bit slow the first time I went there, as the waitress forgot I was a new customer and didn't bother to check in until after 10 minutes of my seating. Since then I've done take away which is faster and more convenient.
Sukumar Goswami

Very speedy service. However, feel as if its mot freshly made as you order. Instead all prepared before you step in hence the fast service. Also, because of the temperature of the food. I ordered crispy pork on Vermecelli and like my food to be hot food like any dinner meal instead was told that they couldnt. Fair enough and just ate. Got takeaways just recently and found a hair in my meal. Far from pleased. Quality isnt that great but for cheap and fast food then that would be a go to.

Have eaten here many times and just keep coming back.  Speed of service is amazing - second to none. My daughter loves lemon grass chicken, and I usually have pork chop and chicken on rice. <br/>Dishes all served with a side of sweet sauce, and a bowl of fish soup, keep up the great service guys!!

Cheap and cheerful - popular little restaurant where the food is always tasty. Nothing top quality but it hits the spot when you're looking for something quick and easy. Been here a few times and no complaints so far. Good stuff guys :)

We came here late last night because it was the closest pho restaurant that closed late. <br/>Noodle soup is the perfect dish at the moment since the weathers been so cold recently. <br/><br/>I ordered the stewed beef egg noodle soup. The price and portion is amazing!! <br/>My friend got the combination seafood egg noodle soup. The broth smelt and tasted soo good!! The clear broths came with a generous helping of fried shallots/garlic (?) either way it was delicious. <br/><br/>The service was so so but I can't complain, we did come in quite late but left before the chased us out.

Pros: Cheap prices, food came fast, quite spacious, large portions, pretty good food. Cons: Average customer service, food decent but there were a few strange things - bones all through my duck meat (watch out if you've got kids!) and noodles were a bit undercooked. It was also really cold, I was shivering in my jacket!

This is our local Vietnamese restaurant. The price is very reasonable for the amount of food they serve. Tonight we ordered the Vietnamese pork spring rolls and the lemon grass chicken egg noodle soup. As the waitress let us know that they had run out of egg noodles she offered an alternative egg noodle; the only difference being the thickness. The spring rolls were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! The only let down we'd say is the atmosphere as it is quite bland and the interaction of the staff with customers is minimal. Despite this however, we continue to come here for the affordable Vietnamese food!

The Mr and I came here for a quick Friday night dinner.  Menu was extensive, although I wouldn't say it's authentic Vietnamese food.  I had vermicelli noodles with lemongrass chicken and the Mr had a spicy rice noodles.  I would recommend the spicy noodles.  Service was super, super quick and meals were cheap and plentiful at around $12 per plate.  The restaurant was very clean (A Grade food rating) had basic furnishings and spacious.  A great eatery if you're looking for a cheap ethnic meal.  I'll be coming back.

Halong is probably the only place at the moment that my partner enjoys their duck dish. However, last night we both ordered chicken meal each (surprisingly). Order was lemon grass chicken and fried rice with chicken. I completely loved the service from the staff, it was quick with smile. My only reason for not giving them full 5 rate was because of the restaurant environment. Felt a bit cold and empty, even though it was quite busy for Wednesday night. Maybe they should decorate the place with plants and have some paintings on wall or something. The place is very clean but because of the cold, we took the food home to eat. Again I still recommend their food though.... Totally love it.

It is close to where I work, if I don't feel like having fast food or bar food, it is a good alternative.  Every time I go to a Vietnamese restaurant, I almost always order beef or chicken soup noodle (known as 'pho') for even comparisons.  Sadly, the beef noodles don't taste as fresh, and the beef is in thicker cuts.  Good on them for being MSG-free, even when it wasn't openly displayed. Having gone there during off-peak hours before I go to work, the service isn't too bad.  I was the only table, and some are on their breaks anyway.

If you are looking for a quick eat, this place is def recommended. Their food has a standard that is always consistent. Tastes the same every single time. The pork chops are an old favourite and a must try for anyone on their first visit. Service is typical Chinese/Vietnamese takeaway. It isn't bad but it isn't like five star so don't expect much as their price is already so cheap anyway.
Manic Diner
Dined here with a friend yesterday. I ordered the crispy pork on rice while my friend tried their soup. Service was super fast, like right after we ordered it pretty much. The crispy pork seemed twice cooked though but still very tasty. My friend loved her order. Their napkins were by way of a tissue box at each table which I found interesting. If you love Vietnamese food that's value for money then this place is worth a try.

Eat here on the regular. Good price, good food, quick service. Bit of a language barrier between customers and staff but they really know there menu so it usually is fine.

This place is where I come for late dinners or brunch when I'm out west. It's filling and affordable. At times I would be served tea, at times I just don't get served tea. (When half the restaurant is being served tea) apart from that, the food is tasty and well recommended!
Lisa
Vietnamese food here isn't very authentic but it's a pretty low key type of restaurant so if you're looking for a cheap ethnical meal it's a decent place.

Good, tasty Vietnamese food, as you'd eat in a café in Viet Nam. The décor isn't flash, but the table settings come with the same pickled chillies and sauces you find on every table in that country. Particular favourites here are the duck noodle soup and the lemongrass chicken. The beef noodle soup is as good - often better, actually - than the pho served at pricier Auckland establishments (it would be perfect if the sprouts and lemon wedges that accompany it were joined by some mint and fresh greens). Well priced too. We eat here often.

Good place to have dinner If your too lazy to make your own food at home. Highly recommend the bbq duck on rice with lemon grass chicken and also the beef soup with rice as well as the wonton soup.

Been coming to this place for yours and consider it a great local.<br/><br/>Standard viet menu and full of flavour. Price is cheap as chips and you get your moneys worth. Also food and service is prompt, really good when you are super hungry.<br/><br/>Great 'go to' out west if you cant make your mind up know what to eat as it wont disappoint

A well, positioned restaurant, good Vietnamese food and good value.<br/>Always go there if I am in New lynn.<br/>Recommended.

Been here a few times. Most times my meals have been pretty good, aside from duck dish coming out very dry. I am absolutely in love with their spring rolls, the dipping sauce is just amazing. <br/><br/>The food is decently priced for what you get I guess, fair prices.

The food was reasonable and good value for money, I thought. However, the service was appalling. Although I realize that the restaurant was busy the wait staff didn't "wait", just dropped the food off in passing. If we wanted anything we had to loudly hail a passing waitress. There were tissue boxes on the table and no serviettes. We had to ask for extra plates so we could share the meals and when they came they were plastic. I don't think I have ever had such inadequate service. I won't be back.

Actually, this is one of the most popular restaurants in New Lynn. Sees more customers then any other establishment in New Lynn.<br/><br/>Food is great value for money. Which is why we are regulars there.<br/><br/>They do have a great selection to choose from, but having been amongst the asian community for near 20 years, I always B Line for their soup dishes, I always order mine with rice noodles. <br/><br/>Walk out feeling full and satisfied.<br/><br/>Great food, great selection of food. Interior needs an upgrade, service is a little chill, but overall, I came to eat :oP

We had a take away prawns on rice tonight. The portion was big, it consisted of 5 prawns, rice and 2 lonely circles of fresh cucumber. Even the portion was big most of it was just plain rice. Prawns tasted nice , unfortunately it wasn't many of them, quite disappointing overall...would not say that it was value for money

Good was decent, good portions. There is much better Vietnamese food out there though. <br/><br/>Also, the service is rude. They should work on that.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a cheap and tasty meal. Ordering deep fried spring rolls as an entree is a must! Service is quick and you will leave full and satisfied.

Nice clean and tidy place. We use to like this place and the food was better last time, maybe they have change their chef recently.<br/>We went there today, but the noodle soup are toooo oily, we have to ask for a spare bowl to spoon out the oil floating on the soup, guest what, it was about a small bowl of OIL that we get out from 2 noodle soups, i guess they got their oil cheaper than water. And the lady who serve us, said, "Oh, a bit of oil is tastier" thanks but this is GROSS! we will not go there again.<br/>

A great tasty lunch. Very quick service, when the restaurant was half full of happy diners, mostly Asian which I believe is a good sign. As a European I found the Vietnamese meals tasty and appetizing, and rather substantial, and the price very modest. Clean, unpretentious decor, their speciality is obviously the meal. Recommended!

Used to be one of my fav place to eat in new lynn area until i served by a rude female waitress, food wise still good, hence the 3 stars, will i go back? Yes, just hoping not to be served by one particular person as i found the others are great, just my bad luck. Food wise, luv the wonton soup.

Very tasty food. Quick service. No problems.

Halong vietnamese restaurant has a lot of tables, and the food is quite cheap! Around $8-$15 a bowl, and the appetisers are quite cheap. But don't expect the spring rolls to be like the ones you're used to, they're Vietnamese, after all!<br/><br/>Service is a bit patchy because the waitresses are running around a lot of tables.<br/><br/>An interesting variety of drinks but not that much in the dishes... Pretty much noodle dishes or rice with chicken, duck, Chinese BBQ pork. <br/><br/>It is good for people who like Asian food but aren't used to sharing dishes! Also good for lunch.

Found this cheap eat in the heart of New Lynn. A menu consisting of the typical vietnamese dishes at $10-12 for mains with an extensive Vietnamese dessert drinks selection. <br/><br/>We ordered the fried wontons, lemongrass chicken vermicelli and pork chops vermicelli (also known as 'bun' ) Unfortunately, my stomach couldn't wait for photos of the wontons but they were delicately crispy, decent sized and accompanied by a lovely peanuts tangy dipping sauce. <br/>Despite nearly chipping my teeth on the bones of the pork chops, the vermicelli noodles were chewy/soft and the salad was fresh. I would have preferred a bit more and finely chopped salad - so it tangles in the noodles thoroughly but the flavours were sufficient and the overall quantity hit the spot. <br/><br/>Having traveled to Vietnam myself and practically 'ate' my way through the country, I've had my fair share of pho, bun etc I would definitely come back here again, just to try the pho!

Halong us a great Vietnamese restaurant and is located in New Lynn, west Auckalnd. We've had meals here for years which is proof of how nice this place really is. The food is very flavorsome, the staff are very friendly and there are enough tables to allow you to have a birthday dinner here. I would recommend this little gem to anyone out in west Auckland looking for some Vietnamese goodness. Woof.

Cheap, clean, and friendly staff. I like to go there when i have no idea about what to eat. If you love to eat vegetable, the best menu to have here is vermiclli
