Review Khoo Thai - Waitakere City

The Alice Outside
This is amazing takeaway authentic Thai! I always get their tofu vegetable green curry and it comes with such a lovely mix of vegetables. Eat here at least once a week. Thank you!

Decent place for Thai takeaways. Generous servings. Quick service! Love the stir fry!

Ordered the chicken cashew nut. It exceeded my expectations. There was a good variety of veges and the sauce was nice. Overall it was a fresh and tasty dish. Would get again.

This is our GO TO Thai place! We love it! We've been going here ever since it opened & it's delish! We have gone here A LOT of times! We have nearly been happy with every meal. We've tried lots of different dishes, e.g, Pad Thai Chicken/Prawn, Chicken Pad Peanut Sauce, Gai Pad Med, Pad Khing, Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay Skewers, Pad Se-ew, etc. It's all tasted super tasty. And all the dishes I've gotten have been loaded with veggies & yummy sauces & meat which is what I love. Prices have gone up over the years which is a shame but everything is going up so I guess it's to be expected. But definitely recommend! We always recommend to family & friends! :) - Pictured is the Chicken Pad Peanut Sauce!

Very yummy, got numbers 38 and 60. 60 was delicious and would highly recommend. However, it's a little expensive and with 38 costing 16.50$ we barely got any duck which is a shame. Would have rated 4 or even 5 stars if there was more. We got medium spicy too and it wasn't that spicy. Edit: had two more times and it was delicious both times, still lacking protein so we'll just get the cheaper tofu option from now on. Raising to four stars.

Aweosme thai food. Small little shop but they pump out some beautiful dishes. Lots of vegetarian options. No dining in. A couple of seats to wait for your order. Best to call and place your order. English is about 70% so make sure to be very clear with your order.. no alcohol served. Dairy right next door to purchase your drinks. Tight parking outside

Great quality n quantity and really good taste! A bit pricey for a neighbourhood Thai takeaway. Prices just went up by $1 across the menu. Loyalty card is expensive to fill up, requires $25 minimum purchase everytime.

Great food. Been our fav Thai for 20 years!! Big portions. Super fresh and authentic. Busy family business, lovely people.

Kia Ora. Lip smacking authentic Thai Cuisine that is prepared under great hygienic standards by the well equipped staff who always add a smile to the flavor. Reasonable pricing, quick service and ample parking makes it a seamless experience for your takeaway.,👍 Keep up the good work!!

This Thai place is the place to go out West. Very friendly and the food is the best 👌

Fresh and tasty. Excellent service and fast. Good mix of fresh veggies and meat.

BEST. THAI. EVER!!! I’m a regular Thai food eater as a vegan, and this is up there with some of the best Thai I’ve had! The stir fry and the curry were both absolute hits!! Thanks for such delicious (and affordable) food!

Thought I had already left a review - I have been coming here for about 10years? And am still a huge fan. This is my favourite local for takeaways and to be honest when I get other food I often wish I had just got Khoo Thai instead lol. You can't get better tasting quality food like this for this price anywhere. When these guys are on point their flavours are just as good as any fancy Thai restaurant. If I am invited to other Thai restaurants I often think to myself, Khoo Thai is better! Sometimes on very busy nights the flavours aren't as perfect as they usually are but I can't blame them when they get crazy busy. My faves are the Chicken Larb & the Red Duck Curry. Thanks for feeding me delicious healthy tasty food for a decade.

Always tasty. Quick and friendly service. Fair prices for the amount of food given. It’s a great little local spot! So glad we’ve found it!
Mandy
What can go wrong with pad thai, but it taste like tomato sauce rather then tamarind sauce to me. Curry puff is a bit toward to sweet side rather then savoury. Red curry is average. One good thing is a generous portion size.

Great portions and authentic tasting Thai food. Best pad Thai I’ve ever had

Went there the other night as we were looking to buy some dinner and came across this little thai takeaway.
It was literally 15 mins till close out.
Staff were polite and friendly.
Found it a bit odd that when I ordered the thai fried rice, the chef asked me if I ate beef!

Anyways..
We ordered 3 mains and 2 entrees.

The chicken skewers in satay sauce were delicious.
The spring rolls were pretty bland but the prices for the quantity served here are awesome!

The Pad pad and green curry were both lovely with just the right amount of spice in them.
Paid just over $65 for all 5 dishes ✅

Would definitely reccomend checking this little place out.

Ambience : ⭐⭐⭐
Staff : ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Food : ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Price : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Pad Thai was very disappointing - it was so soupy and its meant to be a dry stir fry. Bought money bags and it was all stuffed with mixed vegetables, the frozen mix kind! Food was not nice and I would not recommend, at least it wasn’t expensive
Vince Nancarrow
Great flavour and tremendous value. Can't beat the Tom Yum Gai. All dishes are bigger than other take always I've been to without sacrificing taste. Highly recommend!!!
Adele Bromley
Ordered pad med, and another dish, forget what it was called months ago, generous portions, so fresh, lots of vegies so a healthy option, and the tastiest I have ever had, going back tonight to order another dish.

The vegetarian curries are fantastic, some of the best I've ever had in Auckland. Robust, complex flavours and fresh ingredients (great variety of vegetables), and a large serving for a reasonable price.

I wish I could give 6 stars, 5 just isn't enough.
Diego Traglia
Ok, prob the worst ped Thai we ever had. The sauce was running as, the taste was off, this is not a real Thai dish. Would never come back here.
Arianwen Baynes
Massive portions but no authentic taste, pad thai packed to brim with mushy noodles a tasteless sauce, well over flavoured salt/sugar and mostly tofu not chicken. Chicken Penang didn’t taste of Penang curry at all. I have had A LOT of thai food this was very disappointing as it had been recommended to us. The chicken satay sticks were nicely cooked but again pretty tasteless. Such a shame we will not return.
Gareth Neilson
Consistently good Thai takeaway's in my experience. Generous portions and excellent value. My favourites are, green chicken curry, pork and ginger and their pad thai. Clean premises and friendly service. I find the portions are so large that you need extra rice though.
Kristi Vermes
I bought a chicken pad thai last night from this take away. Huge portion, however mainly just noodels and sauce (plenty of it). Half of the meat was tofu (?), I thought they must have been running out of chicken and they substituted it with tofu, however I would expect them to let me know before they cook the meal. Seriously just a few pieces of chicken... I understand it's a cheap meal ($11.50) but still... anyway, I gave them a call today becaue I wanted to find out the situation about the tofu; also to give them a chance to explain before I write my review. Apparently they do put tofu in their pad thai (chicken, beef, pork) and this is how every restaurant does it. Interesting! Never have I ever had a chicken pad thai with tofu added to the meal (not even in Thailand). Just out of curiosity I called other 3 thai places to ask about their pad thai dish, they do not put tofu in it. You guys do. That's okay but at least display it on your menu!! Not everyone likes tofu and if someone orders it with chicken then they expect chicken in it, right? My bad that I read the reviews after this incident, most of them really good, however there was one that says that their pad thai tasted like ketchup and had to throw it away after 2 bites..... also there was some coriander leaves in it also, probably some leftover from the chopping board.
Jamie Craig
Staff are really nice, polite and accommodating. The food is great! Big portions, low prices and the freshest ingredients. Definitely going back the next time I get take out 😀
My recommendation would be the prad kaprow and chicken wings

Go to Thai place for takeaways used to go to Thai Peninsula but when this placed opened locally with great food was really pleased. Best Tom Kha Gai soup dine in or take out you can get.
Tama
The food is very flavourful and portion sizes are bigger than your average. Dishes are not greasy or overly seasoned, ingredients are fresh and well utilised. Curry puffs are the best I've had from a Thai takeaway.
VegeDelight
Food taste good! Portions are large. Cost effective. For example, one red curry with extra rice at $15.50 will fill two people. They are not stingy with ingredients making it flavourful
Sandy Austin
Food is so good! Generous portions, friendly staff. It may be just a little take-away place but it deserves recognition as one of the best in the West. Congratulations to the chefs.
Fai Vellegas
Ordered from there a few times, every time i order the same thing the food tastes different.
To me it was very bland, tastes nothing like Thai food at all. I guess it's okay for what we paid for.
Quite disappointed because I heard nice things about this place.
Jkairvine
Food was great!! Will definitely be ordering from here again. Big portion sizes and everything tastes fresh. The mild and medium spiced dishes we had were spot on. Look forward to eating again.

This week was my Thai week. After tried almost every Thai take out at West Auckland area, this is the BEST. Low price, fresh ingredients, authentic taste, friendly & helpful service, the waiting time might be longer at busy nights but I received less than 15mins this time. I compared their served quantity to price value with other similar business around the area, this is value for money I tell ya.

Also, when I was waiting there and watching the cooks tossing the woks, then smelling the flavours dancing in the woks; it brought me right back to the beachside street-takeout, in Thailand.

(Note: if unsure about the sauces, such as satay sauce, just ask for a separate container so you can decide later :)
Chelsea
Steadily gone downhill, no longer bother with this place. Curries are watery, so are the stir fry dishes. Seem to have really cut back on costs at the sacrifice of quality.
Saskia Halleen
Let me start by saying I LOVE Thai food and this is the best place I have found in Auckland. I will happily travel from my house in St John's to Massey to indulge in one of my favorite dishes. The food is always fresh, hot and tasty. The curries, the Tom Yum soups, the Larb, even the good old kiwi fav Pad Thai; they are all exquisite.
In fact after writing this review I am craving and I know what I am having for dinner!!
Alessandra Ackroyd
I love this takeout!! $15.50 for a curry and that feeds both me and my husband! We always come here when we can't be bothered cooking. Pretty sure it is under new management.
Ac67457
eat here atleast once a month. green curry and chicken cashew nut is 10/10. Best thai takeaways around. Been to thailand and i must say this is even better than the food there...also massive portions. would recommend
Frances Graham
Yum food at a decent price. Something quick when you can't be bothered cooking and every time I order to pick up it takes no longer than 10 minutes for my food to be ready
Dan Norton
Good food at a good price. Is it the best Thai food you'll ever eat? No. But it's a great option for a midweek meal when you can't be bothered to cook.
Amanda Jane Prior Williams
First time visit. We had mixed entree Tom Kha Gai mi goreng and red curry king prawn. All enjoyed by us 11 yr old loved and almost ate the whole mixed entree the soup was sensational and both mains excellent also. The chef was polite and chatty. We did have a 25 min wait tho as he had opened late and was not ready at 1pm on a sat so otherwise would have awarded top marks if not for this. Not a frozen veg in sight btw.
Eden Strang
My favourite takeaway Thai! If your looking for AMAZING top quality Thai food, I highly recommend Khoo Thai! the owners are lovely, the meals are well priced and the food is absolutely AMAZING! Everything I've tried has been really good so far.. chicken wings, green Thai curry, chicken pad Thai and the red Thai curry are all my favs and the best I've ever had!
Linda
I love this place and their food but I have noticed that lately, their business hours are not the same and so isnt their quality of food. I am quite upset when I try calling to make a phone order just to find out that they are not open during the hours that they claim to be.
Donna Armitage
Wow! I go here all the time. Didn't realise there were new owners. It used to be so good, but tonight my rice was so gluggy I couldn't eat it and the container wasn't fall. Just wasn't the same. Very disappointing. There goes my local Thai takeaway.
Bronnie Early
New owners? New chef?
Not the quality of previous meals.
Frozen vege and dried herbs? Come on people. Waste of time money and an insult to true Thai food.

Tom Kha Gai soup with frozen vege and dried herbs.
Too much sugar in combat with chilli no lemon grass no basil no fresh bouquet of flavour which epitomises Thai dishes.
The Pad Thai main impact on the palate was grease. A sickly oil coating on the noodles...ordered beef and was surprised to find chunks of chicken also. We made the effort to support a previously good local eatery but will make the effort to eat elsewhere. Thanks but no thanks.
Mireille
Ordered 3 separate dishes for a Thai friend. What a shock. All 3 dishes looked and smelt exactly alike. Worse, the fish sauce contained pieces of chicken - I couldn't taste any tamarind. The pat kaprow (chicken fried with basil) contained no basil. I could do better with 40 baht at a street stall. It really was cheap and nasty. The worst Thai food I have ever eaten. My Thai friend was shocked and embarrassed and recommended that he cook for us next time.
Chantelle Flynn
Got takeaways from here tonight based on the good reviews. Couldn't be more disappointed!
Hands down the worst pad Thai I have ever had. Gluey noodles all stuck together. impossible to eat.Basically just noodles with 2 bits of tofu and 2 pawns. Got the satay on rice, which came without rice. When my husband questioned the cashier, they said it didn't come with rice! So paid $10:50 for 4 satay skewers. My husband got a curry, and it was watery and far to spicy even though we asked for mild. It's a real treat for us to afford takeaways, we only get them once a month. So this is a real let down.
Karen Perri
This has got to be the best Thai restaurant/takeaway in Auckland. The portions are generous (compared to others) the food is fabulous and fresh and it is good food at a reasonable price. Can't be faulted.
Tracey O'Sullivan
Beautiful food. I have coeliacs disease and they were able to make me a gluten free dish as they can substitute the sauces they use for gluten free sauces. I am so appreciative that they do this. Will definitely be returning on a regular basis!
Angela Parry Davies
My husband and I have ordered variations of the Thai Green Curry about 6 or 7 times now. We love it! So, so tasty and plenty of food for us both - even a third person! The veges are crisp and fresh, the coconut curry is mouth watering and the meat - be it chicken, beet or pork - is very tender and tasty.
We love Thai food and joke we could survive living in Thailand easily, at least from a food perspective! We will go on buying from Khoo Thai as we cannot fault them. And the mini spring rolls are awesome too, but a little more sweet N sour sauce would be better!
Sarah
I heart Khoo Thai - it's always quick, tasty and good value for money. They are fast in preparing the food and it's great to see them in action. Thankfully it's just down the road! Some favorites include the udon noodles, the larb gai and most of the stirfrys!
Deena
Ew don't know why this place has good reviews, the food is below average, not enjoyable at all. The pad thai was just a lump of noodles with some brown sauce, the curry had a weird taste. Neither of us enjoyed the meal, will not go back there.
Zaneta
Was recommended by a friend. Ordered one pad thai meal for my husband and I and we were both struggling to finish it!. Very tasty, look forward to trying your other meals. Will recommend you to my friends in the area also.
Nikki Henderson
This is a constant 5 star place to eat. Kitchen it open and it is VERY CLEAN. Food is made fast and is fantastic! Every dish we have had here has been clean tasting and FRESH!! We don't go anywhere else for Thai Takeaway!
Kimberley Green
Really, really good. Definately the Best Thai I've had and I'm fussy as hell. The vegetables were so fresh and great quality. Normally takeaway outlets don't use good quality meat but they do here. Food was cooked perfectly. I'll. be going back, I can't believe I'd never tried it before. You wouldn't normally find such a high quality takeaway place in Massey but this is definitely above the rest
Fiona Thomson
I go here regularly for both lunches and dinners on the run. The staff are extremely friendly and greet us warmly. My partner is heavily into sport and fitness so often stops for rice to add his tuna to. The service for this is immediate which is fantastic. When going for the meals our favourites are the cashew chicken and the satay chicken however we have never been disappointed with any of the dishes ordered. Service is always quick and efficient and with an open kitchen you can see the hygiene standard is also excellent.
Matt Ma
Their food is so good it's by far the best Thai in Auckland, love their food. Larb is the best, try it. It's all good prices on all their food, I think the service is good, the people are very polite, it's going to be very popular if it isn't already.
KitKat
We have been to this place a few times now and have been impressed every time. The food is delicious. It is fresh and tasty and the portions are generous. It is extremely good value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful. This is going to quickly become a favourite!
Donna Neville
Can't fault this place, the food is delicious, the staff are friendly. The peanut satay is fantastic, as is the cashew chicken, number 22. Certainly the best Thai in west auckland, pity it's not a restaurant, would love to stay and eat there.
Lesley McIlroy
Definitely the best Thai in the West. LOVE the food and the service is excellent. Can't fault this place at all! Favourite meal is the Thai Green Curry and Money bags Yummmm
Lea
This is the best Thai place i have tasted in auckland! I spent 3 months in Thailand and the whole time i was there i kept comparing the food to Koo Thai back home. REALLY friendly staff and tasty tasty food, good portions and fresh produce! YUM YUM!!!!!! I recommend their curries, so tasty!
Clare Wallace
Not as good as Mt Eden, Dominion Road BUT good value for money, especially if you have to feed three - four peeps. $31 bucks was good. The pad thai had a bit too much sauce that I am into and the rice only came with curry powder all over it. It was nice and we got enough to have leftovers tomorrow for breaky lol.....like I said, good value for money. Not authentic like other places but maybe they are tailoring to the westie tastebuds hehe.

: )
Bert
We enjoy Thai food and have sampled many takeaways / restaurants. Khoo Thai is one of the best, with great value for money and one we return to often. Friendly owners / staff and prompt service. A couple of outside tables and chairs for a quick soup would really top off this little gem. Recommended. Bert & Una
Tor L
one of the best thai takeaways i have been too. yes they are a bit more expensive than a average take aways simply because this is not average take away food.. its delicious well worth visiting if you have not yet had it. serously the best thai i have ever had.
Elaine Phillips
Great Thai food, Very generous portions. There is also a loyalty reward available.
Very friendly staff. E Phillips

Great food, very tasty, quick service. Perhaps not the most "authentic" thai food as they use lots of local (i.e. western) vegetables but the quality more than makes up for this. Price a little more expensive than other local takeaways, but nicer food and big portions so definitely worth it in our experience!
Tushal Bhadang
Fantastic food for a neighbourhood take away style Thai restaurant. Prices could be a little lower keeping in mind the locality but thy always seem to use the freshest ingredients and even the vegetarian dishes are full of fresh veggies.
