Review Lucky Indian Restaurant - Waiuku

Delicious. Will be my new go to as a local, should have come a long time ago. Best curry I’ve had in sometime in the wider Auckland area. Butter chicken was creamy, rich and the sauce a great consistency. Staff were super friendly, restaurant clean and tidy and the food was packaged neatly in a bag, no spillage on the container so my hands were left clean. Price was modest too considering the quality. Recommend to all to visit here. Won’t regret it.

Honestly, this is defnitely the best Indian take out I’ve ever had, and I have had a fair few around the Auckland area. The chicken was so good and not dry, and the rice was perfectly cooked. We ordered $6 onion baji between 2 of us and it came in a big bag (good for sharing if you have a big group).

The best indian food we had in the whole country, butter chicken and lamb korma were absolutely delicious !!! + the lovely girl who took our order is a gem !

This place is putting out some great Indian. Does the classics very well. I enjoy some of the least ordered curries and it did not disappoint. Staff are always polite, patient and happy.

Tried this place last week for the first time and was blown away by the quality and flavours in the food Beautiful rich, flavourful and delicious curry Also excellent service, they only do takeaway now too

Always great service and food. They didn’t have the ingredients to make one of the items I had ordered (gulab jamun) on this particular night; however, they substituted it with something similar (gulab petha), which still tasted great, and didn’t charge me for it, which was a bonus! By far, the best Indian takeout in town

Tried it this weekend and it made me want to move here from Auckland. Best Indian food I’ve ever had. Highly recommended the butter chicken! And the mango lassi was a great size too! I can’t wait to come back again and try some of the other things on the menu (in addition to more butter chicken of course).

Absolutely fresh and delicious, tasty-as food! Head and shoulders above every other indian restaurant.. a lovely family who are passionate about their food, so friendly and obliging.. if what you want isn't on the menu, they'll do their best to see what they can do! Highly recommend, without any hesitation : )

Absolutely amazing, Lived in many different towns and tried many different Indian stores, This one is the best by far. Opened late personally for us today and served us without a problem and ended up offering us 4 odd dollars off our meal because they had run out of rice (late night) The staff are amazing and nice and speak very well and would give this store a 10/10 rating simply because iv never had any problems with them

The best ! Rohan josh and their Butter chicken is very good and we have tried lots of places overseas as well. Lovely people and owners too - two dishes naan and double rice do 2 adults 2 kids and left overs

Nice friendly person took my phone order - good handle on English and checked order was correct.
My very hot Tikka Masala was very hot (tick) and I really enjoyed it - I'll be back again :)

Just the best Indian food in Franklin - always excellent! We stick with our family favourite of Butter Chicken but always try something new also and have never been disappointed. Can recommend.

stay away. Order vegetarian food, got meat piece in it. Never recommend. Stay away. Old man at counter, rude and abrupt. Waste of money and time.

Hands down best Indian in Auckland 👌 always fresh and delicious! Would definitely recommend for quick takeaways or for a nice super filling meal!

Best indian food in Waiuku by a long shot! No complaints about the food but sometimes there is a bit of a wait so definitely phone order first

Always good food, best Indian in Franklin.
We often order Butter Chicken, Vege Biryani, Tika Masala. Make sure you phone well in advance ad waiting times can be extended but worth it!

Came here with my husband to try out their food. Their chicken briyani was really flavourful, tasty and delicious. The mango lassi was just right and not too thick or sweet like some other Indian restaurant that I've tried. The garlic cheese naan was alright. Not the best I've eaten. Another place does it better and cheaper. Overall, food was delicious. Would like to try their other dishes next time.

We have tried a few dishes from here now (all takeaway) and are never disappointed. The curries are excellent and the garlic naan is good. Service is friendly.

We recently moved into the area and as lovers of Indian cuisine were keen to try out Lucky Indian Restaurant and we are very glad that we did. We ordered takeaway, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala and Madras with Garlic Naan, the order was ready in 20 minutes as promised and the staff were exceedingly friendly.
The butter Chicken was exceptional and the Madras was excellent, the Tikka Masala although tasty was not hot enough for our taste, more a medium, but upon our next visit we would request and even hotter setting.
In general the meal was excellent and represented good value for money, we will definitely be returning and would recommend this restaurant to others.

I love the Indian from here, takes a little time to cook but i like the fact that when it takes that amount of time it's being cooked from scratch!!! Always delicious. Naan bread yummmm!! Girl that works there is always polite and friendly. The only thing I would change there is the inside of the restaurant the Red is very bright its toooo bright, I think if it had an inviting sit down atmosphere the restaurant would get a lot of people dining in. But great food.

Me and my partner get food from here quite regularly and it's delicious! One of the best Indian food places I've been to, 1 lot is enough to feed me and my partner, also it takes around 20-25 minutes to get the food though which sucks. They also have a dine in but nobody seems to be in there having their meal

This place is amazing! Their food is so delicious, definitely worth a wait. The girls who serve you are always so polite, love buying my food from here. 10/10

The best Indian food I've ever had! This family run business makes the best curry, I really highly recommend the food here. I think it is better for takeaway food rather than dining in. Also the wait time can be ages!!! But worth waiting for

The food from the Lucky Elephant is consistently of high quality and it is a favourite special treat for our family. The ingredients are high quality and the butter chicken is to die for. We also love the fluffy, generously portioned garlic naan bread. A $30 spend will serve our family a very satisfying meal with leftovers for the following day.
Candy
Best Indian food I have tasted anywhere. Butter Chicken is so delicious we get it once a week :) they have made the dine in experience a lot nicer by changing up the colour Decor too!! 5 stars highly recommend

Have eaten from here for years now and usually enjoy it. For us it is great value as we always get two meals out of each single portion! Butter chicken is our favourite but korma and jalfarezi is also decent enough. Have never eaten in as the ambiance is non-existent but for a country-town takeaway it is excellent. Beware that the main thing that slows down an order is ordering a lot of naan breads as they have limited oven capacity I gather.

This restaurant is great for a small town , though folks may think the prices are over the top a tad ,I beg to differ , our family have lived Auckland City all our lives to come to Waiuku/Family Territory to reside and stay put ,you pay the same price in Auckland for quality, we were very impressed with the quality and quantity of our Butter Chicken/Korma Chicken and Naan Breads, we bought takeaway, and placed our order on a dinner plate at home that totally covered it and with height , the taste is to die for , obviously family run business ,cant ask for better service, we ordered over the phone and picked up 20Min's later. I say get your order in early ,its not KFC, they must get busy later in the evening hence a wait time sometimes. Definitely a fav in our family now. Thanks Lucky Indian Restaurant.

Ordered food tonight for the first time in ages. I hadn't been happy with the service previously.
Ordered the chicken tikka masala.
Food was ready in time. Full of large chunks of chicken instead of the usual 5 pieces one would expect. Very tasty.
Also the samosas were outstanding. Bursting with flavour. Will definitely come here again.
Helen
I love the food from this takeaway. Yes, it does take a little bit longer that the fast food outlets but you know you are going to have a quality delicious meal.

I love the butter chicken from this place however the price and wait times mean I often go elsewhere. It is different to other BC, really creamy and tomatoey so may only suit some palets.

As other's have mentioned , I wouldn't dine in as I don't think that would be a pleasant experience. Also, it's always a very young girl who handles your orders.

I have a bunch of friends who all swear by this place (and claim it is the best butter chicken ever). I can see how they love the butter chicken here (different from everywhere else i have been) but for me personally it isnt worth raving about.
The food is always OK but the price means that we normally go elsewhere. The ambience is also non-existant....so i would never recommend eating in!
Food always takes ages too (as noted by others)....
Would give 2.5 if that was an option.

This is a family favourite and we order from them every other week. The food is always great, they quote me times and when I go to pick up it is ready on time. The service is fine.
I only use this as a Takeaway service though, I would not want to dine in as the seating isn't really suited and no one dines in.
Rochelle
Consistently great food and happy to create our own special 'Derek' dish! Our families first choice for takeout always! :)
Dave
My experience has been very good. They can be a little slow on occasions, but generally OK. They are effectively only a takeaway, and I have never eaten in.
I have found the food has been uniformly excellent over a long period. The old standard butter chicken is great and they obviously use good ingredients.
Naan and roti are good, and their rice dishes are excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending them as one of the best Indian takeways I have experienced and probably the best (takeaway) food in Waiuku.

If you fancy a quick Indian meal, think again. You need to plan ahead. When they say your meal will be ready in 40 mins, this really means 1 hour, atleast!
Also make sure you pay when you pick up your order, They have young children on the main counter, who are more than happy to give your takeaways to other customers.
Food has become average. They seem to be taking advantage of charging Auckland prices. Food is often salty, don't go for the onion bahji's. Burnt offerings every time..
My suggestion if you want a curry in waiuku, pick it up in town before you head home.
